Great video. My wife and I and our dog have vacationed in the Rutland area. We bring our 20 year old red Colman canoe just for this reservoir. We pack a good lunch, a bottle of wine, some Vermont cheese. That first spot? We would stop there to swim. Killington mnt out in the distance. Hope you’re still out there enjoying nature. Thank you for sharing this. It stirs great memories.
I have paddled pretty much most of Northern Vermont and suggest you check out Green River Reservoir State Park. Camping is allowed on the island there and there are there’s a few toilet setups on the island. I’ve been there and camped a few times and just a beautiful place to camp and paddle. Enjoy
Das Boot! beauty eh? "the first scratch!"Lol. What a gorgeous place! exceptional photography ! diggin' the flannel ! "into the mystic"! that lake looks like a mirror.
Das Boot!🤣 That first scratch is always a bit painful. There will be more. That morning paddle was epic! Thanks for watching and commenting Andrew. Cheers
Excellent! Between yours and Craig's, I was ready to take a nap it was so relaxing. Of course, the bourbon doesn't help. You should rename the channel "Drinking with Canoes", or "Beer and Gear." Great video, and I'm loving that Northstar. Glad you got that first little scratch out of the way. Look forward to the next one. Best, Joe (or Al).😄
Nicely done my friend. Put another one in the books ! Definitely want to get back up there in the autumn. I’m glad you got that first scratch out of the way ! And I’m glad you’re happy with your new canoe ! It’s a beautiful canoe ! See you soon man !
Now that looked like a great trip man! That mist over the water was just absolutely gorgeous! Tough to beat good times like that... and with good company to boot 👍 Glad you were able to get the new canoe out on her first trip too. Thanks for sharing the adventure brother 👍
Beautiful views! At least the wind kept the black flies at bay. That's awesome with the loons nearby. I love listening to the loons. Looked like a great 'pre-season' outing before everyone else hit the water. That must get packed during the summer.
The wind did a good job of keeping the flies at bay. I was grateful for that. The loons were awesome, and busy chattering all weekend! It was a great pre season outing. By the time we were leaving Sunday, the place was packed. Cars and people everywhere at the landing. We timed it well because this place must get insane during the summer months.
jealous. Making a trip to Park de la Mauricie up in Quebec in a couple weeks, canoe camping on my own. First time. In the meantime living vicariously through videos like yours!
Sure is a beautiful area there. Looked like a lot of fun! At least you got that first scratch under your belt. Still kinda hurts at first lol. Enjoy watching you and Craig. Another great video Justin!
Haven't been over that way in years. Too bad you didn't get to Lefferts Pond directly adjacent. A little less crowded and better fishing. Awesome trip! 👍🍺🌿
It is a nice spot. I went up to Lefters. Parking lot was packed, people everywhere, Trash all over the place. I'm talking a lot of trash strewn all about. Even the little fee collector tower was broken into and filled with trash. Broken beer bottles, dirty diapers, it was terrible. I did take a few moments to walk around and check it out. Quite nice, but it was in disarray. Makes me so mad.
@ItsGoodintheWoods That's f'ing disgusting. Like I said it's been a while. No excuse for that bs. Used to be a beautiful spot and not crowded. Some nice brookies as well.
@@danielmartens156 Sure is. I took some footage of it, but decided to leave it out of the video all together because it created a bad vibe. I was pretty pissed off at the time.
It is really nice out there. My buddies and I used to ski Killington and Pico all the time! Back when there was still a SkitheEast pass. I miss those days.
@ItsGoodintheWoods great backpacking there hiked up Killington and to Pico and beyond a few times. We would scout routes off the backside of Killington to snowboard off the back in the winter miss those times like you said. I actually think there is a vid on my channel of the firepower, I scaled that thing the lower steps are long gone.
Dude that’s great! I lived at Killington in the 90s. Been on that reservoir on snowmobile. So much snow back then. So low key over there, not a big vacation or tourist zone like some lake areas are.
That morning paddle was epic!!! Gotta have the good food on a trip like this. It was delicious. I wasn't drinking at that point yet, but I'm pretty sure I said gooses🤣 I was being silly
You guys were about 40 miles from where I grew up in Salisbury! I went to Franklin Pierce in the late 70’s and dehydrated bourbon definitely would have killed me 🤣 Those EGB spoons are usually fantastic. I’d have to blame the fish or the weather this time and not you lol
Such a beautiful area bro thank you for sharing. Where would a good trip be without excellent xxx food porn too lmao lmao did you cut your thumb on the can? Love the new woodsmans yacht lol thank you for all that you do Justin
Knock on wood, I've never lost my phone, dropped it in water, or left it sitting after a break on the trail and want to keep it that way. Picked up a phone tether from a company called Rogue Fishing Co that clips to a backpacket/life hacket and then goes around your phone. Fits my giant S22 Ultra. Not sure if it would've prevented your phone from taking a swim but neat item that I'm a fan of!
Normally when I am filming in my canoe, the tripod is secured to the thwart. It is a very secure set up. On this particular instance, when I saw Craig on the opposite shore, I packed up my stuff and headed out to meet him. It was very calm at that point, and I knew it was going to be a quick, easy paddle. So I did not secure my tripod. And it all went well until......we got to where we were going, and I got out of my canoe. As i was getting out, my leg hit the phone and in a second it was in a foot of water sitting on the bottom of the lake. Lol. Took me a few seconds to get to it. I can state with confidence the iPhone 14pro max is indeed waterproof in a foot of water for a few seconds. The audio on a few clips was a bit strange for a few seconds afterwards, but it cleared right out. Otherwise, I am impressed. And lucky!
Camera gear for this trip was my Iphone and an old Canon point and shoot. I strap my tripod to the canoe thwart using nite ize twist ties. Works pretty well. But I am sure if I ever go over, it would not be enough to prevent me from losing my gear.
How much total weight do you feel you were hauling between gear and you? I love the idea of the Trillium, seems like a hot rod of a solo tripper, but at 220 lb I've been thinking my own weight plus gear is probably a bit too much...
I had about 65 pounds of gear with me . That puts my load out at about 240 lbs. The canoe handled it very well. At 220, you would be better off with the Northwind solo. The Trillium would be a bit small for you and your gear. I think it has a max weight capacity of about 290 lbs.
I havent seen any, but they probably exist. Honestly though, I didn't pay the amount of money that I did on this thing to hide the Carbon weave and make the canoe heavier. This canoe is coated in an epoxy resin, not a gel coat. So making it look new again is quite simple. A light sanding, apply a coat of resin and she's brand new. I'm sure I will recoat the bottom of it a time or two lol
Hey buddy I am new to canoe camping from ct. could you recommend any location closer to the CT side that have remote camping for canoeing ? Thank you!!!!! ❤
Nice and Peaceful Thanks. As a paddler myself I just love paddling up in Vermont and the Northeast.
The Northeast is just amazing.
Totally agree with the planning thing. Real experts just wing it, and it goes great!

The landscape is amazing out there. I feel fortunate to have been there on that particular morning. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Beautiful place. The sunrise and the fog was a once in a lifetime shot if you ask me
Second time I have ever paddled conditions like that! It was epic
@ItsGoodintheWoods Yeah I get it. One of those memories you'll have for a long time. One of those close your eyes and picture yourself there deals.
Hey at least it didn't rain on your parade, nice video, thanks for taking everyone along !
No rain! I was thankful for that. It was pouring on the drive up there. We got lucky
Great location!
I think so too! It was really nice out there. I'll go back for sure
