I would argue that making progress with the restricted item is what one cannot do. Taking a life away to get rid of the item and progress is totally fair and legit.

In Low G Man your weapon wasn't changing because it said 00/99 above the weapon select screen. must be you need to collect items or charges from enemies. I played this game as a kid but I forgot now. it's a good and challenging game. you freeze enemies and then spear them. you can jump on top of frozen enemies to spear them from above. also the red potion enemies sometimes drop was damaging your health.
Happy to see some of the color dreams games getting some play again. I know they are total garbage, but I still find them fascinating. You don't usually see too many people genuinely playing them. I rented a handful of them back when I was a kid because those baby blue carts were so strange to see. Of course that was always met with disappointment and regret though.

I have seen challenge attempts by you live and also via your RUclips account in the past, but I think this is the first challenge attempt you aborted not because of it taking a long time but because the conditions make it really annoying and make you pay attention a lot more. The only similar challenge I can remember in this vein was your Ghosts'n Goblins (NES) Torch Only challenge but that one was more feasible because you did not have to watch out for every defeated enemy, fireball or else to drop a different weapon every few seconds. Always hate when I miss most of the NES Variety parts of these streams because I have a couple of Famicom games that might be worthy to try out on one of those because the NES/Famicom still has a lot to offer. Actually have Rad Gravity on my "Might Give It More Of A Shot" list after playing it for 30 minutes recently. I much rather play this than 8 Eyes which I also tried for 30 minutes and which I found terrible. Nintendo does not have the balls to make new I.P. because when they do they lose money and they are in the business to make money not lose it like disney
They could try by making some single screen arcade games and doing it gradually to see what sticks. That would be relatively cheap to make. And whichever characters stick, they could slowly roll out sequels.
