  • With the reveal that Sutekh has been clinging to the outside of the TARDIS for the last 49 years of Doctor Who television history, many fans have been wondering if this retcon doesn't hold up with the TARDIS's universe ending destruction in the Matt Smith era season finale episode "The Big Bang". Today, we look back at this episode and ask not only "how did Sutekh survive the explosion", but also "did he cause it?"
This video contains spoilers for the Matt Smith Eleventh Doctor and Ncuti Gatwa Fifteenth Doctor eras, as we review and recap the plans of Sutekh and the Silence. Evidence specifically comes from the following episodes: "The Pyramids of Mars", "The Pandorica Opens", "The Big Bang", "A Good Man Goes to War", "Time of the Doctor", "The Legend of Ruby Sunday", and "Empire of Death".
    From Wikipedia:
Following the end of the previous episode, alien time traveller the Doctor (Matt Smith) is trapped in a prison from which escape is impossible, the space-time vessel the TARDIS has blown up with the time-travelling archaeologist River Song (Alex Kingston) inside, and the Doctor's companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) has been shot and killed by an Auton replica of her fiancé Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill). As the universe is collapsing, the Doctor uses time travel to solve these problems and ultimately reboot the universe. The episode sees the climax of Amy's character arc and the story arc of the series regarding the cracks in the universe, though Moffat chose to leave a few things unexplained.

My mind went to the exact same place, especially as Amy doesn't know about him when she remembers the doctor back into reality.

To be fair, the total destruction of the universe sounds better than bringing back the living hell of the time war until every living being has been destroyed in the cross fire.
It sounds cool the idea of Sutekh trying to take advantage of all the other series finales.

Sutekh: yes, I wait for my revenge (hears TARDIS exploding on the inside)
    Sutekh: That don’t sound good
    BOOM!
All jokes aside Sutekh would have died when The TARDIS was dumped into a pool of Z-neutrino energy during Journey’s End, which was powerful enough to destroy The Tardis

Sutekh was intangible, stuck within a time door, not invisible

A very interesting theory, quite like it

My two theories. One is that Sutekh is why the TARDIS exploding destroys the universe, as that always felt too op for it to do and raises questions on the Time War and other things. Basically this a plan that worked a bit too well for him. The other is that he didn't, the only reason he "survives" is because he's rebooted like everything else

youre trying to answer a question that doesnt exist. Moffat didnt think of Sutekh at the time and RTD didnt think about the big bang this time. There is no answer, theres no point trying to explain something with no explanation. its a continuity error, thats it. accept that and move on. Youre theorising this as if it were a real event that happened in the real world 😭

This video is 9 minutes and 19 seconds too long.
The answer to the question is "he didn't, he wasn't there"
Because when that story was created, Sutehk wasn't even a thought.
Trying to retroactively explain away an absurd story line that just came out is useless. Because it wasn't thought of in the first place and will never be thought of again.

The issue is that with that attitude, you have to ignore pretty much *every* plot development throughout the show's entire history, up to and including the Doctor being an alien.
