DIY: 2023 Ford Maverick - Cutting a Third Key - Do This ASAP!

- If you just bought a Maverick you will only have two keys. You need to make a third key immediately before you lose a key. It's only about $30 to get a third key made now vs a dealership charging $200+ for a key later.
Programming a third key is super easy if you already have two. To program a key for a Ford Maverick with the blade style key:
1. Close the doors (might not be needed)
2. Insert one programmed key, turn key on, wait 3 seconds and remove the key.
3. Insert another programmed key, turn key on, wait 3 seconds and remove the key.
4. Insert a NOT programmed key, turn key on, *double ding*, wait 3 seconds, locks cycle.
5. You're done. Enjoy your newly programmed third key!

The Ford Maverick ignition is style "N5F-A08TAA". If you search for that key online it will cut and program if it includes the chip inside. I used a 1.5mm cutting bit/guide. Most of the other keys I've cut use a 2mm or larger.

Bought this key fob on Amazon and followed your instructions, worked perfectly. The dealer cut it for me for $25.00 and told me he could not program it, even though I had to get a second one made which they charged me a small fortune and I programmed the third at the dealership while I was there in less than thirty seconds. this is the best video. i just did this and it worked great !!!!!!!!! thanks!!!! it was a little bit difficult to find someone to cut it , several locksmiths said they could not and a few dealers would not but i found one to cut it for $10 .00 !!! 😀😀😀😀😀
Glad it worked out for you. Most locksmiths refuse to cut since they make most on selling the keys.

What key machine are you using? I was told they need to be "laser" cut by the dealer.
Defu 368a. I've had it a few years, still works great. Bought it pre-COVID for $110 on eBay. There's similar models available for about the same price, or a little more. The "laser" key cutter is just a vertical mill.

No, you need two keys for this method. If you have only one, then it's a trip to the dealer.
Where did you buy the key at? Also, will this work to turn off the “MYkey” option in my 2022 maverick? my “mykey” got accidentally programmed and now I need another key to unavailable it.

When I click on the Amazon link it says its not compatible with the 2023 XL maverick, should I ignore that, it says its compatible with the 2020 Maverick which doesn't exist.
Yeah, just ignore the matching vehicle info, they work fine.
That key cutting machine has come in pretty handy. Now only if it had a chicken camera mode...
I don't want chickens to be using the key cutting machine. That just sounds like a bad idea.
Ok, so I have both keys but one made a round trip through the washer/dryer.

You have to have two good keys for this method, otherwise it's a trip to the dealer.
I just traded my XL for an XLT with remote start on key fob, can I program a third key the same way, if I purchase an aftermarket on Amazon?
Yes, every Maverick is the same. As long as you have two working keys and get a third cut, you can do this method.
I did my old Rangers this way but didn't think a smart key Maverick was the same. Spent $450 for two dealership keys on my '23 Mav XL. Great video but too late for me. Shucks dar n it.
I don't make keys very often, but this key cutter/duplicator has more than paid for itself with dealer prices like that. Yikes!

Yes, you have to have two working keys to make a third with this method. Otherwise you'll need to visit the dealership or locksmith to make another. Then you can use this method.
