    Great interview. I am glad to hear that BYD is building an assembly plant in Thailand. That should really help to turbocharge EV sales there.

    I'm so surprised that BYD didn't have a Dolphin/EA1 on display at FullCharged Sydney.
    Whilst I have pored over it in their Sydney showroom, I would have liked to directly compare it to the MG4.

    I like the diversity in looks for the BYD range that you mentioned so far and more will come out as well. Tesla all have a distinctively duplicate look to them just stretched or squeezed but otherwise identical, not my thing but do appreciate what they have done for the industry as a whole but I won't buy one. However the Atto 3 is so far top of my short-list for my next EV when my current EV lease expires in about 12 months time.

    Chris, as a country based M3 (Fremont then Shanghai) owner with 90,000 kms experience, I have to tell you that the famous OTA updates have delivered waypoints and Apple Music, plenty of trivia and meddling but the basics (ADAS/convenience features) are if anything worse today than 3 years ago. Sudden speeding, stumbling acceleration, panic braking for no apparent reason etc just makes every trip another fairly unique experience…….beyond the big city and freeway. The genuine competition is just around the corner and Tesla doesn’t care apparently, it’s inexplicable.

    • @MrCrouton80
      @MrCrouton80 Год назад

      I have to disagree. I find that often when I new update comes out, my M3 seems to regress a little for a day or so, but then "learns" again and improves. It's like one step back, then 3,4,5 forward. Supervising autopilot is quite a different skill set to driving traditional long distance. I find I get frustrated having to drive a traditional car for more than 15 minutes. It is a little unsettling when new software changes something (like indicator behaviour for instance), but by and large the software is miles ahead of most regular ICE cars. Maybe lacking "polish" here and there, but at least it's shipped in double quick time!

      @@MrCrouton80 perhaps self satisfaction is one of Tesla’s biggest handicaps, along with a CEO who simply can’t be brought into line by ‘his’ indulgent board. Ageing products are a reality that can’t be argued away.

      @@chrisvanderstock It at least sounds less threatening than BYD's other ocean cars. Their new BEVs are named after cute ocean animals, but their new PHEVs are named after warships. First the BYD Destroyer, then Frigate, and soon Landing Ship! Full on invasion it is!

    NO.
    BYD is definitely a follower in term of techology and innovation, if , not a pure copycat from Tesla. I tried BYD atto 3 yesterday, It is crazy that someone would compare that with Tesla cars.

    • @tren133
      @tren133 Год назад +3

      How can Atto 3 be a copycat from Tesla when Tesla doesn't even make a compact crossover? And of course no one should compare to Atto to a Tesla, since it costs a good 40% less. Elliot is talking about the BYD Seal, which IS comparable to the Tesla Model 3, and after testing, Elliot (and many other reviewers) rightly concluded that in many ways the Seal is equal if not superior to the 3. And soon enough BYD will be releasing the Sea Lion, which will be the direct competitor to the Model Y. The Seal is already nearly matching the Model 3 in sales in the Chinese market. Presumably the Sea Lion will also take quite a bit of Y's market share when it is released later this year.

      @dallas drew - If you rewatch it, you'll note that I state vehicle sales by manufacturer, not citing a particular type of transport type. Moreover, I mention that Japanese brands are really missing in action in electric offerings. That said, at this moment in time, Tesla is about 15th in the world when it comes to total sales and if they're to beat Toyota and achieve 20M sales a year with just 10 vehicle types (2023 investor day plan), they'll need to do a lot more than they are now. Full disclosure, I'm a Tesla owner, I've got a Powerwall 2, and have shares in them.

      @@dallasdrew2390 So Tesla ARE beating Toyota at EVs then, by a long way. Toyota make more cars than Tesla of course but fossil fuel car sales are declining, no matter how you dress them up as 'self charging hybrids' or whatever marketing BS. If Toyota persist in going down the fossil fuel burning route they will be trying to win a share of a declining market.

    • @AWildBard

      I watched it twice, I don't know what you are referring to. Could you include a time stamp? I don't think anyone said that Toyota are beating Tesla in EVs. It seemed to me that 99% of this video was about BYD, not Toyota.
      What is probably going to happen is Tesla is going to beat Toyota very soon in best selling car worldwide category.
