When you read the negative comments on ANY laptop/chromebook review videos, you quickly realize from what they say that those people ONLY buy computers to play games, so their comments are pointless. I just bought the i5, 128GB C630 for $536.00 from Lenovo's website (I got a couple of discounts) and I use it strictly for work doing research and you CANNOT beat it. So when reading comments on these videos, don't pay attention to what gamers say, because as in life, they're worthless.

Hey Lon! Great review. I was wondering if you'd get to this one. I reviewed the Core i5/4K model for notebookcheck a couple months ago.
One thing I noticed was that the right USB C port charged the device noticeably slower than the USB C on the left. Is that something you saw too?
The 1080p model is the way to go. 4K on a Chromebook isn't optimized - several apps I tested had scaling issues, even with 200% scaling set in the Chrome OS settings.

Great review Lon! In the large school district in my city they use all chromebooks and the google environment for kids homework and everything.
It will be interesting to see how students graduating high school and college transition into the corporate world which is mostly PC based.
Chromebooks and Google these days in schools reminds me of Apple in schools back in the 80s and 90s where Apple gave schools deep discounts to have Apples in schools but after kids graduated high school and college they had to learn PCs because the corporate world is mostly PC based.
    Cheers! 😎

Lon, not sure if you know this, but Android apps now CAN support microSD cards so long as you give them storage permission in Android app settings and restart the Chromebook. Only catches are you can't install apps to them, only download offline videos or read from a microSD any ROMS for emulators, and ALL streaming/downloads are limited to SD only, despite most models now coming with 1080p or 4K screens. From my understanding it's a WideVIne certification DRM issue because ChromeOS runs android apps in a container, hence missing some of these things. Also, interestingly enough, even streaming Amazon Prime video through browser on ChromeOS is limited to SD only, when doing so on CHrome browser on WIndows is 1080p. Would love for you to do a video on this to bring it to Google's attention to fix, since my contact to them has been useless as their Google One support says they don't support Chromebooks, only Pixelbook. Even saying it's a Pixelbook issue, they run laps under the "IDK' thing.

For those interested, Best Buy has right now, and periodically, the step up model that has the Intel Core i5-8250U (4c/8threads), 8GB RAM and 128GB storage for $599 as well with a free Google Home Mini for Spring.

This video was perfect for me. I am the audience you designed this episode for. I've heard about Chromebook and I just wasn't sure if I want to go that direction or get another laptop. One other question I do have is I live in a rural area so satellite internet is my best choice at this point for speed. The local telephone company will not increase the speed of DSL past 1.5 m. I know it seems archaic compared to other people in other areas! Anyway how would Chromebook work for me having to rely on satellite internet with latency issues inherent to this type of connection? Thank you!

It'll be the same as any PC out there - these are running with the same processors as their PC cousins do.

I agree that Chrome OS is a viable alternative to Mac OS and Windows, which is why I wonder why we don't see new Chrome Box desktop computers coming out? That market seems to have stagnated, and I wonder why?

Lon, I noticed there was a typo in the speedometer benchmark list. You have the processor listed as a “13” instead of “i3”.

Considering all the things you do on a Chromebook, anything over 500 dollars MAX for ANY Chromebook is unreasonable in my opinion.
Now add that it's an i3 with only 64 gigs of storage!?
    Hell no!

He's using goofy Lenovo website pricing. Best Buy sells the quad i5-8250U/8GB/128GB for $549. That is a blazing fast machine if ChromeOS is sufficient for you or if you need a secondary device.

I believe that chrome OS devices are truly becoming a decent Windows competitor. I'm actually glad to see a bit more competition in the laptop market. Let's hope Google keeps it up.

I think SD chips are probably coming as soon as Q3-Q4 of this year on Chromebooks. Google has actually developed a SD board around which other SD powered Chromebooks would be developed.
