      I remember discussing how Mighty Mac could've been improved, by having them be given a similar dynamic to Dog/God from Fallout New Vegas (with a hint of Wheatly from Portal 2, with one of the ends), with how one end was the most enthusiastic and willing to prove himself out of the two, despite not being too bright and having a bad habit of coming up with ideas that don't pan out, and the other being more quiet, mature and well-meaning, but ultimately gotten overly controlling, due to their lack of faith in the other end and believing it to be for their own good.
      At least that could lead to a more interesting reason for their arguing, compared to the originals, who (as someone put it) basically were the Brunswick & Bayswater of Sodor. And that isn't exactly a complement, given how annoying that certain someone described them as being.
      Also, Brendam Productions already did a pretty good re-write of "Don't be silly, Billy", as well. Though, he does kind of adopt a bit of Gordon's arrogance in that version, as well as basically thinking he doesn't need help with his jobs.

      way did you want to rewrite Jeremy as being a short sighted jet plane?
      he could have been one one of the unqiue characters in the tv series as Thomas had never met a jet plane before Meeting Jeremy for the first time. thats my opinion anyway

    It is of my opinion that any TVS character, no matter how bad, can be given a decent, RWS-style backstory. Although he is a great character who doesn't belong in this video, I have been thinking about a RWS-style backstory for Hiro.

      Hero is one the most "could fit in the RWS" characters from the CGI series. Take away the CGI's canon of Hero as the first engine on Sodor, and he's worthy of an entire arc

    • @AndrewHager02
      @AndrewHager02 3 года назад +3

      @@nesswednesday2976 I’ve been thinking of how to work on a way to reintroduce Hiro into my own version of T&F, one that incorporates TV exclusive characters into a Railway Series style. For him, I thought of going for an origin where he’s bought for the Mainland and rebuilt to standard gauge, kinda like how two of his classmates were for the Korean railways and eventually bought by Sir Topham Hatt for his railway. Either that, or maybe have him introduced in a more RWS-esque version of BWBA where Thomas and Sir Topham Hatt land in Japan and Hiro gets bought for the North Western Railway to help with heavy goods work. Whichever one ends up in the final draft, he’ll still be called “Master of the Railway” in both Sodor and Japan.
      And wait’ll I tell you my idea for the rest.

    Jeremy: pretty much Dory from 'Finding Nemo"
    Billy: Lonely and arrogant
    The Logging Locos: CGI Henry, Toby, and Thomas
    Nia: Russell from Up, I guess?
    That's the best way I could see them from your explanations.

      Sydney already has the same trait as dory cus he is very forgetful which while not an original character trait it’s very interesting that maybe this trait formed because of the fire that happened at the diesel works and it damaged Sydney to be forgetful.

    The issue with modern Thomas was the homogenization of personalities. Unlucky Tug described it as "generic happy go lucky kids show character" and nailed it on the head. Barely any new characters had a noteworthy personality besides maybe Sarge from Season 20. Worse, most old characters were either flanderized or made to all be the same, this is what happened with the Narrow Gauge engines after Season 16

    • @TheThomasCynic

Maybe he can take what was wrong with how the actual show had treated them and make them fit into his Stories Of Sodor Series.

  • @AbrahamBenno

    A great video as always!
    1. I never really thought that Jeremy was on the same level as the others but okay.
    2. Billy might be the only engine who I’ve ever wanted scrapped XD
    3. My Logging Locos rewrite goes something like this: Thomas asks Salty about the story about the island adjacent to Sodor and Salty tells him: Dash, Bash and Ferdinand were sent to Misty Island along with some humans as research engines. They studied the nature of the island and of the newly found “jobi wood”. The researchers would provide written records of their discoveries in their journals. The other engines don’t believe Salty because there’s no way that any engines have been on an isolated island for so long. And you could rewrite the film from there.
    4. My Nia rewrite: Nia is a very competitive engine. In her homeland, she always went out of her way to prove she was an excellent shunter and won a branch line of her own. After a while, the KUR ED1 class started to be scrapped, but because of how useful she was, they wanted to preserve her in a museum. She escaped from them and has been on the run ever since. In BWBA the movie, Sir Topham Hatt agrees to bring her to the North Western Railway after seeing how determined and hardworking she is. You could have some episodes in S22-S24, showing how seriously she takes everything. Sometimes it helps her to persevere while other times, she causes accidents (maybe by shunting the trucks too hard). James and Nia become friends over a mutual hatred for trucks XD
    5. My Rebecca rewrite: Rebecca is a very shy, nervous, anxious and insecure engine. She messed up while pulling a train once and tries to avoid pulling trains again. One of the other engines eventually convinces her into getting back into the game and she builds up enough confidence over a multi-episodic arc and gets over her anxiety. Meanwhile, Gordon gets very scared that she might replace him, so he keeps being rude to her. But at some point, High Speed Gordon is adapted for TV and instead of Pip and Emma, Rebecca rescues Gordon in the rain. Gordon embarrassedly apologises to Rebecca and the two become friends.

    Here are my headcanons that I thought of.
    Jeremy: Teaches the others that new and old can mix
    Billy: I love your version it's exactly what I wanted
    Bash Dash and Ferdinand: Brothers who care about each other. Ferdinand is kind but has been on the island for so long that he has developed amnesia.
    Nia: Very clever, but is afraid that her advice may cause harm one day. Rather than the steam team, she helps out with Duck, Oliver, Donald, and Douglas in the yards, and has become good friends with them thanks to her being able to keep the troublesome trucks in line.

    • @thealienboi479
      @thealienboi479 16 дней назад

      Here's my headcanon
      Jeremmy: I don't have one yet because I forget he exists sometimes.
      Billy: He's kinda like Thomas's old personality, wanting to do bigger things that big engines do and works at the shunting yards with Molly, Charlie, Paxton, Dennis, Stanley, and Rosie. He's also pretty optimistic and is good friends with Molly kinda like a little brother and big sister relationship. (I kinda also gave him a goofy and silly voice)
      The logging locos: Bash and Dash are of course, twins like they always were. Bash is the more timid and cautious, and Dash is the more adventurous and outgoing. They both rarely argue too. Ferdinand is kinda like their mentor and keeps the both of them out of trouble. And he says more than just the two words he always says. He has kinda a guardian/father figure to the twins.
      Nia: I kinda like her character already, I would just remove her from the main cast.

  • @Cosmo_Pathy
    @Cosmo_Pathy 2 года назад +5

    I actually rewrote BWBA where after all of Thomas' journeys going out of Sodor he prefers to stay there and go to the Mainland less often but accidentally heads on a boat that isn't going to the mainland. He ends up on a different country and now spends his time frantically trying to get back to Sodor. Nia comes in the story when Thomas ends up in Africa. Nia is kinda like Oliver here. Ever since her railway closed, she's been trying to avoid scrap for so many years. She kinda has this survivor mindset now. She follows Thomas because she feels the need to protect him cus she thinks that "he won't survive a day without her". Thomas allows Nia to come with him after she saves him from a life threatening accident.
    But yeah anyways I really love your rendition of Nia! I love all these rewritten characters!

    @primrosevale1995 3 года назад +9

    Great ideas, TC!
    These are the changes I would make (though mine are more TRS-based I'll admit):
    Jeremy: For one I would make sure he's the actual size of his basis, and have him use that size to give his "air is better than rails" attitude some weight behind it, he can carry a lot of people and carry them far. But I think you could balance that out by having be boastful of where's he's been, bragging of flights to China or Australia, despite only really having flown around the UK. He feels he needs to 'be impressive' as a new jet plane, and worries that he wouldn't be representing his company if he didn't do so. Then you could have him connect to Gordon in a similar way since Gordon's route is rather small compared to most main line. That way he has a personal reason to do but only does so because he thinks he needs to.
    Billy: I would make him a Tidmouth Yard shunter, but having a degree of self-importance when it came to shunting, feeling that he has enough experience to not need help, and because of that he lacks respect for his fellow engines at the yard when they try to act authoritatively. Then have him humbled in his intro episode when another shunter tries to tell him about a type of truck he has never worked with, and his carelessness and the trucks’ mischief end causing him great trouble. It would end with him knowing the difference between being bossy behavior and genuine advice. You could still have him as boisterous and with a short attention span.
    The Logging Locos: This ties into my own reworking of MIR. Bash and Dash would become more like their basis, having their wheel-like yarding mechanism in the front and more importantly, being narrow gauge. They would be owned by the Lumber Yard, with the twins working on the timber company's own narrow-gauge logging railway. Ferdinand would basically be their boss, but more of mix of the mischievous oddity of Billy Shoepack and the gentle giant trope than the quiet one he has in the show, and the one that acts as an intermediate between the Yard and the rest of the railway.
    Misty Island would still exist, but be unconnected to Sodor and exist somewhere else around the UK, where the Logging Locos originally worked before coming to Sodor, shipped away because the basically deforested the entire island. Their nickname would instead refer to their crazed-like obsession to logging.
    And what's the biggest forest on Sodor? Henry's Forest. This way their movie appearance would put them in direct conflict with Henry, leading to a nature vs. industry conflict that I feel would be quite interesting.
    Nia: While I like your idea, I feel like Nia's introduction feels counter-intuitive to that direction. I would instead of her be afraid of commitment after being left alone in her yard and since all engines that go through it seem to never stay or even acknowledge her, even if she tends to think about them due to her loneliness. She's become worried of letting people into her life in fear they'll leave her forever or treat her bad like her old railway, so it gives reason for her wanting to tag along with Thomas. She's the first thing to a real friend she's ever had, and since she doesn't have a shed and her railway doesn't really have any more use for it, she decides to go with it. In this way she becomes worrisome and finds it difficult to put her full trust in unfamiliar people, but she loves to learn new things, especially about culture, and so she fights between her curiosity and anxiety. This explains why she's nice to everyone, but now has the nagging worry that things could go wrong, but tries to do her best in spite of that.
    You could even include her All Engines Go quirk of loving music, which could be used as a way to showcase aspects of different cultures through their music, and as a way she discovers she can connect to others. It gives her a way to determine who is worth being a friend with, while learning that its okay to leave people who don't care for you behind.

    My personal idea for fixing Nia would be this:
    (PS, in this idea Nia wouldn’t be the class she is, but would rather be a GWR 1400, the same class as Oliver. I did this mainly to retcon the idea of her being from Africa, as that would be hard to work around.)
    Every year there is a week called steam wherever week. It’s essentially the engines version of winter break. They can go wherever they want for 1 week. So for the engines in the UK, they can go anywhere they want in the UK. The work they would’ve done is taken over by faceless engines. The right most track on mainlines is off limits to the faceless engines and is reserved for engines with faces. Same thing for 2 track branch lines, and you have to confirm with a signalman that you’re allowed to go down a 1 track branch line. In this movie Thomas goes off to Britain and finds a steelwork factory. He befriends one of the engines there, Nia, and her Great Western brake van, Dan. After a while he realizes that something’s up. Nia won’t go outside of the grounds of the steelworks, and is always doing work, even at times when she’s tired. Thomas ends up asking Dan about this, and learns that Nia’s operator (who’s a lot like sailor John, nice at first but gets worse over the course of the movie) is illegally making her do work during steam wherever week. The climax of the movie is a chase scene where Thomas, Oliver, Toad, and Edward are all trying to get Nia and Dan away from the steelworks, but Nia’s operator is chasing after the them using a faceless engine. It ends in Toby, who was visiting his old railway nearby, pushing some freight cars onto the line and derailing the faceless engine. The movie ends with Nia getting a new paint job and working on Thomas’ branch line. Nia’s operator tries to sue the NWR, but after it’s brought up that he had an engine working during steam wherever week, the Fat Controller counter sued and he won the case. The money is used to create a new mine on Thomas’ branch line after iron was found Ulfsted Castle. Nia heads the operation, and it’s subsequently called Nia’s mine. The movie ends with a nice melody, after Nia is repainted into orange.

    My own version of nia’s character is that Thomas came to Africa because at the time sir topham hat was desperate for a new engine to help on the mainline goods with Molly, Neville, and Murdoch and so you can say that it’s a mission and he comes along with Thomas. When they get near the boarder from Africa to Egypt 🇪🇬 they find a railway that was in the same position that the mid sodor railway was in and that there were only 6 engines left, one of them is Nia. When they get to know each other sir topham hat makes arrangements with the owner and buys he and on the day the line was closed, nia was sent to sodor but however she was in pretty bad shape and so she needed a complete overhaul and after the overhaul she worked on the island ever since doing goods work.

    Honestly, I don’t think the logging Locos are as bad as people say they are. don’t get me wrong they’re pretty bad in Misty Island Rescue, in particular when they tried throwing Thomas in the sea (however in their defense they could’ve been joking and Bill and Ben have made similar threats before). However in their individual episodes in the following two seasons directionally pretty decent and have different enough character traits.
    Dash seems to be quite musically inclined with his whistle. Maybe this means he has an enjoyment of the arts or he could be creative?
    Bash is shown to be sensitive and is rather in touch with his emotions, As we see when he separated from his friends he is quite sad and tries to express this by Toby keeps cutting them off.
    And Ferdinand although he doesn’t say much he keeps of the vibe that he is a gentle giant character. Even his whole “that’s right“ thing could be a sign that he’s not much of a conversationalist as he only answers with short sentences, however he still comes across as very caring.

      I agree. I feel like they're to over hated because of MIR. Their episodes weren't that bad, and it did show that they had potential, but Mattel just pushed them aside.
      And you're right, Bill and ben literally joked about taking Gordon to the scrap yard and dumping himcinto the ocean, which was pretty funny.

    Jeremy - 👍🏻👍🏻
    Billy - still not a fan of him, but this retcon could work.
    Logging Locos - they’re not bad characters, they’re just not good Thomas characters.
    Nia - she did have trouble learning what numbers look like in the English language, that’s one of her flaws, which is only present in *one* episode. Not to mention, after the movie, not *once* does she feel uneasy about leaving Africa and her friends. And certainly not once does she feel homesick, she seems *too* content on leaving everything and everyone behind simply because her shed is no longer around.

    Here’s how I’d rewrite dennis.
    Dennis in his one episode is shown to take a path of least effort cuz he’s lazy as hell. However he doesn’t actively try to harm others and does have a heart.
    At the start of the story, Dennis would be bought by the fat controller because he was sold for cheap due to repeatedly not doing his job out of laziness. He would come to sodar just to continue being lazy.
    After a while of avoiding work, he’d gain notoriety for being unreliable. One day her overhears how Murdock broke down hauling a heavy freight train and no one is available to deliver it on time. Despite his smaller size and not needing to, he asks if he could help and pulls Murdock’s freight train all the way to its destination shortly before breaking down himself due to the load.
    Due to his heroic act, despite his size, he’s cheered for and now understands how good it feels to finish a job and works splendidly on the island of sodar.
    Since characters from the railway series usually have 2+ stories to give them a sorta arc I can see a first episode where he comes to the island, does jack all, is left in his shed for his sloth-ness which would be a punishment to most but he doesn’t really care and then in the second episode, the stuff with the freight train happens.

He would never become friends with her on account of his dislike for steam engines. I hope you understand that.

    I’m currently developing my own series which is set at Thomas’s old railway and show the fates of all those model era characters who didn’t make it into CGI.
    Billy in my series would be quite stubborn when it comes to work.
    Perhaps I can share my series characters and what their basis are.
    So I’m just going to reveal one of my major supporting characters in my series.
    His name is Barren, the basis is the LB&SCR E1 Class steam Locomotive.
    His personality is that of gloom, sadness and timidity due to having seen the majority of his class apart from his brother Burgundy being scrapped by a mysterious killer who also claimed the lives of Thomas’s brothers and sisters,, many of whom Barren and Burgundy personally knew.

    For Billy and Charlie, I would make them the first two engines of The Wellsworth and Suddery Railway, who happen to be Manning Wardle tank engines, just like them. Also, given how many American engines have been introduced in the show, including The Logging Locos, there could probably be a spin-off series in the States, which could probably even tie in with TUGS.

    While I don't really know how to change most bad characters, I have two things to share, first off Neville, something relating back to his origin as a southern Rail Q1 class, a locomotive built specifically to get moving quickly during WW2, perhaps he had some major crash during the war, and after such his character flaw would be extreme anxiety or something, and then the Geography of Misty Island, I am working on a full rewrite (pray for me) and I have the hell island as a peninsula helping to form the Brendan Bay, at which Brendan docks is located along the Welsworth branch line, home to a privately owned logging railway that would supply lumber to the NWR in its infancy. When the tunnel caved in, there were efforts to excavate the tunnel, but they were halted during the events of Trouble in the Shed due to budgetary constraints, leaving the logging locos trapped and abandoned.
    Also, one thing I haven't mentioned is that I also mentioned another part of the docks, being an old and mostly disused key run by only Bill and Ben, as the foundation is too unstable for most engines.
    Also, also, in my AU where the rewritten MIR takes place, Percy is built at Crovan's and Gate from spare parts. Mainly taking inspiration of Percy's description in the IOS book, where it is stated that Percy appears to have a mix of parts from various locomotive builders. Also, Thomas is an E2X named after a driver that was killed on the footplate in a bombing run on Knapford during WW2 SHOULD I STOP NOW!?

    I also had an idea like this for the HIT Era characters, (Billy, Dennis, Neville, ETC.) making trainz stuff and giving them character arcs. Personally I think for Billy rather than being too stubborn to ask for help, he just doesn't like being told what to do. Hear me out. Billy comes to the NWR to be a station pilot and willingly gets coaches ready. He does it wrong and Gordon gets mad at him for it and demands he do it right next time. He then stops doing things because he only wants to do things on his own accord and they need to help Billy find a job he enjoys. Over a few episodes he has a character arc learning to listen after other engines are very nice and patient with him and he ends up working on maybe Thomas' branchline because he enjoys it and everyone there is patient with him. I also wanted him to have a dynamic with Stanley somehow.

    • @Dreamyyepic
      @Dreamyyepic 3 года назад +1

      As for the logging locos I made an old video (which might be unlisted now I forgot) where James came across an abandoned goods yard which is where the logging locos were and after a while of helping them at the yard James learned to not hate trucks as much and to be more accepting of smaller engines. Not much of a Logging Locos fix but still I liked what I did nonetheless.

      Also back to Billy, he and Edward could possibly have a relationship with Billy looking up to Edward because he's so kind and Billy always listening to Edward. I really want to make all of this in trainz episodes but it's gonna be really hard to make on my own lol

    My rewrite for Bash, Dash, and Ferdinand:
    A long time ago, Misty Island had a huge successful logging company business with many engines working for it. One day, many machines broke down and all the people working there along with all the engines moved away and left the island abandoned. Years later, the abandoned railway was used as an engine prison for any engine that misbehaved. Bash, Dash, and Ferdinand were on the mainland and misbehaved and were sent to work there until they could behave again. However, they refused. So, they had to stay there forever. The logging locos started to work very hard so they could be let go. However, they never were let out of Misty Island. One day, Whiff got lost on Misty Island and met the Logging Locos. They became friends and Whiff was able to get home by the tunnel to Sodor. Whiff the was able to bring garbage down the tunnel until it was declared unsafe. Whiff at point told Salty about Misty Island. Then when Thomas asked Salty to tell him a story, Salty told Thomas about the story of an engine getting lost on Misty Island.

    I would make the logging locos originally work in the pacific northwest of the US because there was many miles of logging railroads. My story is that they where replaced by diesels and where going to be scrapped. Someone from a logging company buys them at the last moment and puts them to work on a logging operation close to killdane. My reasoning for this is because the operation would grind to a halt because trucks at the time couldn't carry very many logs

    I feel that misty island rescue would have better as a series of regular length episodes taking place on sodor. That completely unresolved diesel sub plot in the beginning would be an episode, and the logging locos would also have an episode to themselves though i imagine it being largely different. Maybe they sit unused in some part of Sodor that was abandoned and one day thomas somehow stumbles across it and by extension the logging locos. One way or another Thomas becomes immobile. maybe he runs out of coal, or maybe his firebox gets waterlogged. Either way thomas can't run on his own. This is where the logging locos come into play. They all unlike thomas run fine with wood, so maybe thomas' driver and fireman go into one of the locos and use them to shunt thomas back to a station where thomas can get resituated. At the end of the episode sir toppam hat can become aware of the other locos and restore them to be used on the railway. (Maybe the abandoned area could be great waterton therefor bringing the town into the cgi era.(then again it might be a bit late for that looking at s25))

    In my opinion, if I was to rewrite any Thomas character, here are 6 examples of those characters and how I’d rewrite them;
    1. Billy: Instead of a bratty hillbilly who wants to get his own way, he is a silly and clumsy but well-meaning idiot who only wants to do his best.
    2. Charlie: I would write him more like Eric Idle in terms of character and comedy.
    3. Bash and Dash: They are polar opposites of each other. Bash is more responsible and reasonable than Dash while rather quiet and timid, but he still has bounds of excitement. Dash, on the other hand, is hyper and outgoing while rather reckless and daring.
    4. Ferdinand: He is the silent member of the Logging Locos, serving as the strongest but slowest of the trio. He is rather wise despite his quiet nature, and likes watching Bash and Dash argue over their shenanigans.
    5. Connor and Caitlin (I don’t hate them, I just wanna flesh them out a bit more): Connor has the same personality, but he’s also quite smooth, smug, cocky, flashy and competitive and enjoys a challenge. Caitlin, on the other hand, is almost the same, but acts like a sister figure to Connor.
    6. Ryan (again, I don’t hate him): He has the same personality, though there are times when he can be a bit stuck-up.
    What are your thoughts? I will add more characters when I think about how to rewrite them.

  • @lavaboyoh1893

    If there was any character I would rewrite, it would be Rebecca, because right now, she has no flaws like Nia
    My version of Rebecca would be paranoid, like your version of Ferdinand; she thinks that in order to stay on Sodor, she must impress everyone and have no enemies. This would result in a conflict with Gordon as she will do anything to impress the engines

    To be honest, i think Misty Island Rescue COULD'VE worked out if Sharon and her crew weren't so lazy and boring with writing the whole story and plot, and i think the Logging locos would've been more liked if their personalities were more fleshed out and different instead of them just being three idiots living in the woods having no clue what they're doing and Thomas is just wondering how long he's gonna be stuck with them.
    Maybe if Andrew Brenner had directed it, it would have at least been more interesting and likable. Not to mention the plot would've made more sense.
    And say what you like, i think the song is a banger 🙂

    I mean... I did think there was potential with Nia (I mean, admittedly, the idea of her kind of struggling with reading certain symbols, characters and all that, did at least seem like it could've been elaborated on, especially with the whole international aspect to her character, what with originally being from another country), though... Whilst I wouldn't say she was "too perfect", it was just another case of not being given much time by the writers to fully work out her character, and kind of being a bit half-baked in places as a result.
    With that probably being a fitting alegory of the BWBA era, despite honestly not having as painful of an experience sitting through those seasons, compared to 8-16.

    Here's my versions of two of them(based on the RWS, as if they were from Actual RWS books), I have no idea of how to do Jeremy or the Logging Locos
    Billy(debut in Industrial Engines, a Rev W Awdry book) Billy is an engine owned by a paper mill on Sodor[he's a Manning Wardle L class, those were built for use at industries], he does have a bit of an authority issue[to explain his 'Bossy Boiler' traits] and only works around his paper mill home, he does come into his own when he saves trapped workers as part of the paper mill catches fire
    Nia(debut in 'Foreign Engines', a Chris Awdry book) Nia is an overly trusting engine that comes to Sodor as part of an 'international steam exhibit'(the book is set 2010), where as a showcase of how steam was on other railways across the world, she has a run-in with Diesel(who had been on the island after Billy bursts his safety valve) and at the end of the book the international engines head home and Diesel is finally accepted on the railway(he was going to be scrapped back on the mainland)[The reason I set it 2010 is that the RWS ends the following year with the centenary of the Rev W Awdry's birth as the final story]
