    So u have your cars ecu flashed you mentioned if I heard correctly? Having stock exhaust and intake is sufficient for that? It’s been a while for me being out of the car game, I’ve been driving a truck. But from what I remember with my Subaru when I bought the Cobb access port it would say “stage 2 u need intake, downpipe, exhaust”. With the type r I’d be able to flash and tune the car with only intake and stock exhaust?! Thanks man

    • @GridZilla

      Yep no need for any bolt ons to flash a good tune

    Thanks for the video I’m debating on wether a 9th gen evo or a 10th gen type r is a better daily driver and you convinced me of the type r with some mud flaps and a protective coat in the front and sides. I do want to let you know man that the seat behind the driver seat is the safest place in the car especially for a child it’s a pain cuss you can’t reach them but I’ve had my kids right behind me for a while now. Also where do you work if you don’t mind me asking? Thanks for your time if you read and respond!(:

    • @GridZilla

      Rob Opatrny I’ll look into the child seat thing. Part of the problem too is my seat is far back enough that it won’t allow for a rear facing child seat behind it. Thanks for the tip though and thanks for watching!

    Thanks Michael for the great review, sharing your viewpoints and touching-up on some of the important things to consider with the Type R being a daily driver. I'm hoping to get one hopefully sometime this year. I've done so much research in the past 10 days, watched numerous youtube videos from all sorts of reviews, gathering every bit of information about the vehicle and understanding what sort of car I would be getting into.
    Pointing out the recommendation of having a clear-bra, especially in a black car or for any other car for that matter, is totally important. Paint jobs are not cheap, can run into the thousands and the clear bra preserves the original factory paint. I would like to someday go on a drive with you around the Bay Area and enjoy those backroads you mentioned about. Have you brought your Type R up to Highway 35 (Skyline Blvd.) or even around the Santa Cruz Mountains? Probably one of the best twisty turns around the Bay Area or even the drive up to Tomales Bay or even Point Reyes Lighthouse.

    • @GridZilla
      @GridZilla  4 года назад +1

      Mr. Tuckers I have not been on those roads but I’ve spent some time on hwy 9. Generally speaking though if I’m driving aggressively I keep it in the track 😁

    Ugh. It always makes me cringe when I hear rocks getting slung up against the sides. I too dislike mud flaps. Once it warms up here in Alabama I'm gonna put some paint sealant on followed by a thick wax. I'm hoping that'll help. I'm looking at ceramic coating the wheels too in hopes that it'll make cleanup easier.

      @GridZilla  5 лет назад +2

      How about the sound of a pebble/rock hitting the windshield? Man that's a scary sound. My Next video will most likely be application of a ceramic coat. I'll do the wheels as well. Thanks for watching!

      @@GridZilla Yeah, I've heard rocks hit the windshield too. I hear the windshields on these are super fragile. Yeah, if you do vids on coating the wheels/car that'd be cool. I need to look and see if there's a special jack to use. I'm afraid the one at my parents' might mess up the side skirts. I would like to get the wheels off to clean and coat them. I've been looking at Adam's ceramic coating and Gtechniq's C5 Wheel Armour.

    Thanks Michael for your insight and opinions!! I do, however, have a question/thought for you and your subscribers. Long story short: I was 100% getting an Si but after seeing all the videos and reviews on the Type R, now I am now about 95% toward the R but the only thing holding me back is "fear". What I mean is silly thoughts, for example: at the movie theater, park the car, enjoy the movie and come back out to the car and the red emblems are gone because of the A-holes out there. things like that. Am I just paranoid? Even more after hearing your story on the video. These cars ain't cheap. It's a hefty investment. I live in SoCal (as you know alot of people live out here). I'm older gentleman as yourself so i'm too old for dumb S**t, just saying. Thank you!!

    • @GridZilla
      @GridZilla  5 лет назад +2

      I can relate David. I grew up in SoCal. I at one time had a 1997 Integra Type R and no less than 3 times my badges got stolen. One of the three times a flat head screwdriver was clearly used to pry off the badge. After a while I decided to go with fake badges so they would leave my car alone. Having said that I don't think this would be the case anymore. You see back then the Integra Type R was the ONLY Honda you could get red badges for. Now the red badges are optional on even the Si's if I'm not mistaken. Far more common and to some degree have lost some of their stealable appeal. Vandalism is never fun to deal with but I've seen in it in all types of neighborhoods and on different types of cars. I guess what I am saying is get what you want. Enjoy it. Drive it. Love it. Life is short and cars like the Type R are disappearing from the market and if I didn't already have one I'd be searching far and wide to get one asap. Hope this helps. Thank you watching and following. Cheers.

    So I've owned my CTR for a little over 3 months and considering I've gotten a bunch of different answers from multiple sources. I was wondering if you had any insight on when to get the first oil change.
    before I even bought the car my boss was saying get the first oil change right after you break it in. then some where on the civicx.com forums I saw some say absolutely wait until the maintenance minder tells you that you need service even if that means you are well into 10k miles. Personally my last car was a 16' Civic EX-T and I did that one at 5% on the maintenance minder.
    right now the CTR is at 4794mi going on 4 months and my maintenance minder is at 50%. so should I go ahead and get the first oil change now or wait until the maintenance minder says I need service? also at what interval do you change your oil in yours.
    really enjoy your content, I appreciate all the work you do.

    • @GridZilla
      @GridZilla  5 лет назад +1

      MiscRJX Thank you first for your support. I appreciate you. Best way I can answer your question is by asking a question. How do you use your car? Do you daily drive it? When you do drive it is it sprited driving? Do any track days? Where do you live?
      Here's why those are relevant questions.... If you just daily the car freeway and city driving and that's it then I'd wait till 7500 miles or more before the change. If you drive it like you stole it then 5,000 is good. If you track the car like I do. I put the host quality oil I can find and change after every 2-3 track days regardless of miles. Usually end up being around 4000-5000 miles for me. It ok to change your oil early if you are putting back in some quality stuff. ie. Motul, Amsoil, liquimoly (probably in that order). The reason why people tell you to keep the factory oil in as long as possible is because it has molydenum. In so many words or chemically bobs to metal surfaces and creates a friction layer between metal parts. But if you replace with oil that has a lot of "Moly" in it then changing it early will not hurt. Hope this helps!

    • @MiscRJX
      @MiscRJX 5 лет назад +1

      @@GridZilla I mostly daily drive the car to work and back. Only driving spiritedly up onramps when there's no one in front of me. Haven't had the time or the courage to take it to the track for some lessons.

    Thansk Michael for sharing your Type R. also thansks for recommending a PPF clear bra.
    Thanks for your great honesty and content. I'm leaning towrd a clear bra/PPF too.
    Did (Advanced Vehicle Outfitters)they say anyhting about paint desocloration between the bra and un coverd paint on rest of car?
    I came accross another shop on yelp say ing they use a film that doesn't have ultra ray filtration of sorts so it protects but allows sun to shine on in same degree lke rest of car which prevents any color mismatch/discoloration over time..
    Your thoughts?
    Kind regards,
    Forrest

    • @GridZilla

    Michael I'm thinking of changing wheels and tires due to problems with the Tire Warning System .I'm concerned about taking a trip in the car with the tires being low profile due to potholes and road conditions.And no spare tire. Do you have a wheel and tire size that you would recommend . Thank you for your opinion

    • @GridZilla
      @GridZilla  5 лет назад +1

      Mok Brown if and when I get around to swapping wheels and tires out I would go with something forged and down size to 18 inch diameter wheels with probably 9.5 width tires. No down side. They'll look great, your launch off the line will be better, lower unsprung weight, more sidewall for those potholes and more tire choices.

    • @braves7581
      @braves7581 5 лет назад

      Actually running an 18 inch tire will throw off the geometry in the suspension and cause torque steer off the line. I use 18 inch winters for practicality, I'm not doing any launches on icy/snowy roads.

    • @GridZilla
      @GridZilla  5 лет назад

      @@braves7581 That's an interesting thought. Seems hard to believe that there would be torque steer by changing size of tire so long as the over all diameter is the same as stock. Even then the whole engineering of the suspension geometry is such that the steering axis is so close to the wheel centerline that it nearly eliminates any torque steer at all. That doesn't change with different size wheels. Center is center. Not only that but literally every tuning shop that has their own track ready FK8 Civic Type R is running 18's so what am I missing here?

    • @dmarsh6917
      @dmarsh6917 5 лет назад +2

      i have 19x8.5 in wheels with Michelin 245/19/35 winter tires on the car (2018 CTR) - really like this combination. The good news is it keeps the overall diameter within 1mm of the stock setup, the bad news is it's almost impossible to find a +60 offset wheel to keep the scrub radius the same. I ended up with Motegi 924 from Tire Rack. This wheel has a +53 offset, which keeps the scrub radius within 7mm, very close (only 1/4 in off). Whatever you do, don't change the suspension geometry any more than you have to
