  • Your Television might have a Built-in Signal Meter for Free OTA Antenna TV. Find Out How to Check! Many televisions already have some version of a signal strength meter built in, similar to the signal meter found in most digital converterboxes sold today for use with over-the-air antenna TV signals. Checking in the channel setup, installation or autoprogram menu, look for an option that says signal strength, signal meter, DTV signal, or Antenna, and you will find your TV's version of a signal meter. Not all Tv's have this type of feature, but if your does, it may be helpful in aiming your antenna to receive free OTA broadcast channels.

In Europe all digital TV sets have a built-in signal meter. And the built-in signal meter is calibrated to it's tuner. But receivers and set-top-boxes have a better signal meter especially when you install an antenna a satellite dish or both if your receiver is a combo. I remember back in 2010 when I connected my Samsung P2270HD TV Monitor to the cable TV. Unfortunately all channels except a shopping channel where encrypted until 2012 and a cable box was mandatory. I could go into menu and see on each multiplex the signal strength and quality. After 2012 when all cable companies decided to decrypt the basic channels (from 120 channels 65 where FTA on cable), I could do real tests, also like the HD picture quality. Unfortunately in my country we didn't had digital TV until 2015 and after June 2015 the TV wasn't compatible with the new standard. The Samsung TV had DVB-T tuner and the broadcast is DVB-T2 (2015 - present). But with the Philips TV Monitor with satellite tuner it was very useful for installing both the antenna DVB-T2 and Satellite dish DVB-S2. But I mostly used the WELL DVB-T2 terrestrial receiver for installing the antenna and the AMIKO MIRA to align the satellite dish. Until I bought the AMIKO Multitracker 2 and now AMIKO TSC1270

Interesting to hear about the electronics in Europe compared to North America.

Hisense has this built into it's EPG. It's on page 2 with the description of the show. LGs have it. It's just sort hard to find.

On vizio TV's, (or at least the one I have), the signal meter (just a number) is buried in the system info part of the menu. I've owned that tv for over 10 years before running into it.

scan meter are good but with wrong antenna people may miss out on some channels or in some cases all. don't rely on a installer they may or may not install then correct antenna and other relyed items . Example give you a uhf only anntena when you need a combo uhf/vhf anntena. It may work in a strong single area but not efficiently. Also when people use spliter backwards to combine anntena , it does work but at a greater single lost and may cause problem depending what your combining. Also Installers may scam you as in the cases that happen in Candana a guy that goes by the name Dr. Sat was tell people his receivers did Fta Satellite and Over the air. when it did not . People need to do the research on their own and if possible install it on their own.

Unplug the TV, wait for a minute and plug it back in. Maybe something glitched.
