Very educational I'm actually going to be running 100 ft of cable wire downstairs and that was wondering if I was going to get any good signal or not and I'm actually using a splitter so I'll purchase the amplifier you're talking about so I can see the difference, it's a purchase through Amazon so if I don't need it I can always send it back.
Thanks Tyler. What is the difference between a "distribution amplifier" and an antenna "pre-amp"? If I use a distribution amplifier to boost the signal to provide a strong enough signal to four TV sets, is the amplifier going to overwhelm a single TV set turned on with too strong of a signal like a pre-amp can do?
Thanks for following the channel. I plan on making at least one video every week related to cord cutting. There's a lot of info that very few people know. 95% of outdoor antennas aren't properly grounded which is something I'll be covering as well.

I've got 92% quality & the downstairs TV is just 21% signal quality on a lot of channels and bad weather don't work,so will a signal amplifier work between the wall outlet downstairs and the input of the TV,or does it need amplification before the splitter diverts into 2? Thank you for the information. Is there a way I can use the same cable that is being used internet? I have one cable that is feeding internet and TV to part of my house. Do I need to run a dedicated cable for the new digital antenna?
You can usually keep it open but some say using a coax terminator below can prevent "signal leakage." www.amazon.com/Type-75-Ohm-Terminator-Pack/dp/B000AAN76Y/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=3SZWY60CDVZ31&keywords=coax+terminator&qid=1664471312&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIzLjQyIiwicXNhIjoiMy4wNCIsInFzcCI6IjIuOTIifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=coax+termi%2Caps%2C162&sr=8-3
Thanks for this video. It's cool. I am Meshach from Nigeria. Please, if I have a single antenna to be connected to one tv, how do I make the connections without loosing any signal or channels? Thank you
1Thanks for the knowledge. Most ads clearly claim the amp DOES magically bring in stations. Sounds like, in reality they are pretty much useless other than long cable runs. My coax is only 30 feet. Unfortunately, most towers are 50 miles away and height seems the only solution.
I had a small new inline amplifier on hand .. so I installed between attic antenna installation (closer to antenna) using the passively 3-way split in basement acting as a slight attenuation .. the signals to each of the 3 sets fairly accidentally ended up just about perfectly powered. Been working ideal for years. I did install a Belkin Surge Cube on amp power supply so nothing has ever been unplugged for storms. xlnt video, thx.
Great question. I never knew they existed until I saw your comment/question and then wondered why they were even necessary. So, you had me do a little bit of researching and in a nutshell the logic is... 'terminators' will never make things worse... but... will make things 'optimal'. So, given the inexpensive nature of 'terminators'... why not use them?... lol
I use Portable power stations to run appliances when there is a power outage (which is common where I live).I would be better off installing an additional antenna for the extra TV points so I am not reliant on the power grid. Don't know how much power these powered splitters use, but surely just adding an additional antenna would save energy in the long term and be a good option rather than a powered splitter. Love to hear your opinion.
Nice video! Im wondering if the signal strengths is only weakened when multible tvs are on at the same time? my tvs will usually only be on one at a time. I looked all over the internet and no one ever mentions that
This is definitely true I was able to get more Channels with a Powered Splitter compared to a regular Splitter with the Powered Splitter a Brand that you recommended called Reliable Cable/ Antronix we get around 97 Channels but with the regular Splitter we got way less Channels only around 40 or 50 Channels. Our House also has Aluminum Siding basically everywhere around the House itself and we have some tall thick Trees and Solar Panels on half of the House so we needed something to help keep the Signal and a Powered Splitter seems to do the trick.
in a recent video, i found out how to use a pocket toner to find cables to my TV, but my problem is, that i am disabled and i need to find out if the cable that is located at the roof receiver is good all the way down to the junction box nearer to the access point before it goes through the house??? if i use the pocket toner i cannot get on the roof to get it done??? could you, or would you help me find a way to do this??? i would be totally greatfull to you, can you respond via this you tube connection.... respectfully yours... thx for the mini tip i should of watched it before i bought the 2 way splitter my original plan was to use one end for my tv and other end to my airTV 2 so that way if i’m out i can just watch my local programming through my sling account before installation i was able to get my scanned channels 95% of the time the 5% was just during storms after installation at random times one of my channels goes in and out but after seeing your video while searching for a fix i immediately changed the wiring while my show was on a break and have my airTV rescan and it got close to the same channels that my tv stored since the last scan which was when i moved out of my college dorm 5 years ago thx for the mini tip
I was wondering if u can do a video about over the air broadcast in 4K and what are your opinions or thoughts about it. Do u think it a good ideas for future over the air TV. Me personally I would love to see 4K over the air TV because I have a Vizio 55" 4K Smart TV.
I will be making a video about ATSC 3.0 coming in the future. However, 4K won't happen for at least another ten years. Our current digital standard was made in 1996 and most TV stations didn't go full HD until 2012. If there is 4K by that time I'm not sure if it will be available over the air as there is very limited bandwidth between each channel and it's shrinking with the FCC repack. Unfortunately you bought into the 4K marketing gimmick. There are no live 4K broadcasts yet they're selling the TVs as if they exist. A video about that will be made as well.
@@AntennaMan Good job Tyler. I like your videos. I know this thread is old but I am getting high noise levels (S7-S9) on my 11 meter CB base Radio. After searching around, the RFI is coming from my Antenna Amplifier. Is there a way to filter or shield this RFI ? I would like to use my radio !!
Hello, I manage a 22 room apartment complex that has 22 tv's with a home-run setup. I would like to get rid of cable. What type of antenna set up is needed with pre-amps and distribution amps? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Another good option is to have only one line to the antenna as short as possible. Plug it into one Tablo DVR device and your done. I stream live TV to every other room in my house through Roku boxes and Amazon Fire sticks. Works great for me.
I'm looking to clean up my wire area. I have a small 9U rack for some networking. There's plenty of room, I'd love to change over to a rack-mount distribution amp. This would be mostly for OTA, as I have a fiber distribution for TV. Got any ideas for me?
Is the Regal zds3dgh10 DC power pass? I need DC pass through to power the pre-amp. I cannot combine a distribution amp with a pre-amp due to power insertion. I can power one device but not both. It’s not indicated on the Regal 3-way splitter if it has DC pass but one of the outputs has -3.5dB only while the other two outputs have -7dB. I’m assuming that the -3.5dB is DC pass.
Good explanation. I have a powered splitter. One thing I would like to know is your thoughts on the, Juice, from Antennas Direct. It was a great device and it greatly enhanced the channel signals and the quality of the pictures but whenever we had a rain storm it would burn out.
It looks decent but as far as you losing stations when it storms that's likely due to changes in atmospheric conditions due to barely getting the signal. If you would like me to take a look at your reception situation to determine if you need a better antenna setup visit the link below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
I have a question; about, stacking two matching transformers onto one antenna and making two home runs one for a D-amp to go to TV's and the other just an FM tuner. Is this going to degrade the signal coming from the antenna?
How about when you would like to use two antennas and connect them both to a central point, them out to the TVs. What is the recommended connection? Seems like one of the input ports is lost to "power in" on almost all preamps.
Combining two antennas in general will result in both signal loss when combining them and multipath interference. Your best bet is to get one decent antenna
I bought a Winegard platinum antenna and hooked it to my TV as per your advice and it works great. Now however, I trying to reconnect my DVD player to the TV as well but cannot do so. I thought a splitter would do the trick but it doesn't can you advise what must be done to have both my Winegard and my DVD signals used alternately?
You can connect the DVD player via the red, yellow, and white RCA cable to the TV. You don't want to combine it with the cable coming from your antenna or it might mess up your reception. Hey, If you have a 1 In and 2 Out unpowered splitter try putting two antennas on the 2 Out then put another coax cable (RG6) then connect it you will get a lot of channels, for me i have 60+ channels on ISDB-T
I bought one of those 'don't buy' antennas that you mentioned in a earlier video. It works okay but would have rather gotten a bigger antenna for the price. With that said, how close should I have put the amp and rotator module to the antenna? I also would like to know what a good rotator motor would be for an upgrade. I didn't see any videos that showed a good antenna matched up with a directional motor and control box for moving the antenna to specific degrees. Thanks for the great videos!
You'd want the preamp within 6 feet of the antenna typically on the same pole it's mounted on. The rotor itself is usually about 4-6 feet from the start of the mast with the antenna being on another 3-5 feet pole. Doesn't matter where you put the control box
btw I understand that OTA Over the Air Television isn't a thing anymore but can I see TV free if I have 1 Set top Box downstairs, I split the Cables one to the Box & one to my other TV can or will the other not work
How about terminating unused ports on a 4 way channel master powered unit ?.. I notice the cheap port terminators and the expensice channel master port terminator. Any experience with any of these ?
Hello Tyler. My Question : If I use the channel master 4 port dist amp and only use 3 ports, and terminate one spare port, is that extra signal from the terminated port being split between the rest or just "not used" ??
I know I'm a bit late to the party, but do you know of any wireless options that mean you can use an antenna input in one room to pass the signal to a tv in the next room? I appreciate there is gonna some reduction in quality, but I'm not too fussed about that and the distance between the transmitter and receiver is only about 20 feet.
Yes, you can use a Tablo which I attached below. amzn.to/3NFUJL7 The TV in the other room will need to have a streaming device like a Roku or Firestick to access it on your wifi network.
I just did exactly that. It works perfectly. You only need to decide if you want the 4 tuner Tablo or the 2 tuner Tablo. How many will be watching tv in different rooms at the same time? For me, no more than 2 so I went with the Tablo Dual Lite. You can buy a refurbished unit for $79.99 with no tax and free shipping directly from Tablo's website. Keep in mind that you will also need Roku or Amazon Fire devices for each tv you want to use but they are cheap.
Very good information. Thanks for the video. Can you please help me on this question. Can I connect a second splitter to a splitter? I am thinking to connect a short coaxial cable to the out of the splitter then connect the other side to the IN of the second splitter to have two extra out.
Isn't it the practice to terminate unused outputs on a splitter with a 75ohm termination plug? Used to be back in the analog days you could get ghosts on the picture from signal reflections in the coax cables if things didn't get terminated properly. I know on a CAN communication data bus each end of the buss has to be terminated with the proper value resister or other devices on the bus will become erratic from the reflections of the signals caused from the improper termination.
I was able to use the powered splitter ( ANTRONIX VRA500B $60 on Amazon) that Spectrum left behind after I turned in my cable boxes. I mounted a small GE 29884 ($35) antenna outside and I can get a total of 41 OTA local stations on 4 tv sets in my house. The local towers are NNW at a distance of 37 to 48 miles and I'm even getting 3 stations from a city to my ESE where the tower is 58.8 miles away.
@@AntennaMan Right now I do have coax line to the rooms. but once I ditch cable I'll try them first, there's only one splitter and the cable works good on it. I built an antenna I found on the net and around 30-40 miles from the best towers. only thing is the lines are from the late 80's and friend tells me the lines can go bad over the years, not really sure if that's the truth though, thanks.
I have antenna on my roof that was professionally installed to 4 TVs with an amplifier. Channels I used to get don’t come in anymore. Could it be the tv tuner? I’ve bought new TVs in the last year so the TVs I have now are not the ones I originally had.

Tyler, I used to have DISH. I've since replaced it and want to add a regular antenna to my house. The cables that the DISH system used are still in the house. I understand that I should be able to use the coax that the DISH used, but my question is whether or not I can use the splitter (?) that the DISH system had used to distribute the signal inside my house. I want to hook up the antenna to the same TV's that were connected to the DISH but if i don't have to buy a new splitter, I'd rather not.
It depends on the bandwidth the splitters are good for and a number of other factors. If you are splitting to more than two TV's you may need a powered splitter to combat signal loss. The strength of the initial signal can also play a part in how you go about handling multiple TV's off one antenna. Always start with one TV directly to see if you need a pre-amplifier at the antenna to boost the TV signals (after properly aligning the antenna and gaining proper line of sight, of course). If you have many obstructions or are on the fringe, you have to also match the antenna to your needs. You also want to make sure what part of the signal band your digital stations are set at: lower VHF, mid VHF, UHF, or a mix of them. This will inform you as to which antenna may work best. Check to see if they have gone through the recent FCC repack since some of the lower spectrum has been carved out and sold off for cell usage. www.rabbitears.info is one place to look. TV Fool is now outdated.
When I look at these type Splitter+Amplifiers, they say "Not compatible on systems with an existing amplifier or pre-amplifier." I have a Televes DATBOSS LR Mix 149884, which comes with a Built-In Pre Amp. What can I use to spit the output to multiple TVs with this type of antenna? I tried a non-powered splitter, but I lose channels.
You should be able to use an unpowered splitter after the power inserter to the Televes antenna. If you lose channels, you might be using too large of a splitter. For example, if you're using an 8 way splitter reduce it to a 3 way splitter. For additional help, you can sign up for my consultation service below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
I recommend this one. It's the same one as the Channel Master model with additional gain on each output to compensate for signal loss in a long cable. It turns out they were the same models but just with "Channel Master" on them instead of "PCT" amzn.to/2XiP2Y5
I just rewired an attic mounted older Channel Master Advantage 45. It was wired with old 300ohm cable and I wasn't getting the channels I could get in the analog days. I rewired with a 75ohm transformer direct to the tap-off terminals and added a basic spliter. I pulled in 68 channels with most over 90% on my digital TV, and average of 75% with a cheapo digital converter box. Would it be OK to use two individual 75ohm transformers under the tap-offs instead of the spliter to maybe get a stronger signal to the converter box? I may be adding a third TV in a few months.
I am not sure what you are referencing but if you are connecting one antenna to multiple TV sets you need to use this powered splitter below. It is powered by the coaxial cable so you can place it outside if your antenna is not near a power outlet. amzn.to/2Id2vvD
Curious can someone split cable tv signal and roof antenna to one line to multiple TVs like 6 or 7 tvs. We have cable but we have had times when some locals was not available due contract issues but was available thru antenna signal.
Hey man! So are you saying a 50ft Co axle cable from ur roof straight into your TV is going to get better signal than a 100ft cable?? I purchased a 100ft cable just to be safe. And it is probably too long for what I need, am I loosing channels?

My house has an old (huge) antenna in the attic that has two baluns and two runs of coax attached to it. One for the upstairs and one for the downstairs. Is that a legit way to to do it?
@@AntennaMan Thanks. Do you have any videos that go over having both a preamp and distribution amp? I looked but didn't see any. If not, maybe it could be the topic of a future video?
@@AntennaMan I'm in a red / violet reception area in Western NY. I cut the cord a couple of years back. I started with a Clearstream 4V in my attic with a CM-7777 preamp. I was able to tie into my existing coax network and provide decent to good reception for tvs. Then to get more channels I added another Clearstream 4V and connected them together with a Winegard CC-7870 antenna coupler. Now, I'm by no means and expert and I think I'm pretty lucky that it all works. For me having the antennas in the attic and tying into the coax lines worked out well. I also have a homeworx digital converter on two of the tvs. I have a one terabyte external hard drive on each of the converter boxes so I can record OTA stations. It's pretty great and after the initial purchase, it's free. The only thing I haven't tried is to improve the signal with the distribution amp. I wasn't sure you could do it. I have two splitters that go out to the 5 tvs. I have a drop ceiling area in my house where they're located. I need to take a look and see what I can do. I'm also not sure about how I'd get power there long term. I sure do like your videos. You do a good job. I'll let you know how it turns out.
@@AntennaMan I replaced the 4 way splitter with a channel master cm3414 and ran a splitter off one of the lines to supply 5 tvs total. I'm extremely pleased. I added 56 channels up from 42 in previous scans and would say added from 5-15% to the signal strength, depending on the channel. Overall, I'm very pleased. I bought the dist amp off ebay. it was a refurb from cm directly and was only $36 with tax and shipping. What is the biggest factor for me seems to be the weather. The signal can be in the 60's -80's on one day and drop to 40's - 60's on the next. Thanks again for the info. I am happy with the results.
I purchased an 8 Port Antenna's Direct HDTV Distribution Amplifier. I have connected 6 TV's to it, and have the caps on the 2 ports not being used. Sometimes the signal strength will be at 75, and the signal quality will drop from 100 to almost zero giving me pixelating. The signal strength stays at around 70 at the time it does this. The amp is mounted in the basement. The antenna is a Clear Stream mounted in the attic at the recommended angle. The weather was not that windy at the time. What do you think is happening ?
@@AntennaMan Sometimes, but not at the frequency that this was happening a couple of days ago. Today, similar weather, and no issues. I don't get what is going on.
Have a question.... without a usual 2 splitter I get 58 channels on a channel scan. With the 2 splitter, I get 50 channels on a scan. With digital channels these days, what am I looking for in regards to good enough signal to still get optimal picture? I am mostly interested in local channels of which look great prior to using a splitter. Am I primarily looking for pixelation and drop outs, or am I also looking for sharpness of picture (like how analog channels used to tune in) ? Is it possible that the splitting of antenna signal may result in some of the non-local stations dropping out, but local stations will continue to look just as good? Many thanks in advance.
Your issue is that the unpowered splitter is killing your signal. As long as you use this powered splitter you should have the same amount of channels on both TV sets. If you do not it is possible that one of the TV sets has a weak tuner in it and you may need a new TV set or separate tuner. amzn.to/2K0lrQm
Hey antenna man, thanks for the vids. I think I could use a distribution amplifier. Once in a while I lose the signal on a few channels. I have kind of a long run to my rooftop from a splitter in my basement. Its all rg6 and goes to 3 different rooms (small house). But, you never explained where to put a dist. amplifier (ex: closest to antenna). Or , does it not matter? Thanks
Thank you so much for doing these vid's. Very helpful. i purchase a Omnipro HD-8008 outdoor antenna, it came with an inline amp. If I were to get a dist. amp to run to a bunch of tv's, do I remove the inline amp and replace it with the dist. amp? thanks
Here's a bizarre story. I have an outdoor antenna connected to a Tablo Lite which I get my local channels through the Roku app, before I had the Tablo I had the antenna cable connected to my TV. I've always had problems on and off getting our local low VHF channel 5 and recently the Tablo wasn't picking it up at all. As an experiment I reconnected the antenna to my TV and found channel 5 was coming in there. So I decided to use a Legrand splitter I had to connect both the Tablo and my TV to the antenna so I could watch channel 5 (all my other channels come in great through the Tablo). To my astonishment channel 5 now comes in strongly through the Tablo AND the TV. I know the splitter really should have made the signal worse but I'm wondering if the Legrand splitter's filtering ability somehow helped clean up the weak signal from channel 5. Weird. In any event all is well with the world now.
Adding the second TV set either helped "ground" some static/interference going into your Tablo or acted as sort of a second element on the antenna to improve the signal.
I have a amplify on antenna cm7777hd but i have 4 tv on a splitter can i use a power splitter too ?? the antenna is in the attic i have 47 channel some weak on the 3rd floor
This usually goes inside where your splitter is. As long as you use a RG6 quad shield cable you can connect it 30 feet from the antenna. Check out my video on RG6 Quadsheild vs old RG59
Love your videos! Quick question, can you run two amps back to back? I currently have an "Electroline EDA 100x" amp (+15dB) which runs to a 4 way splitter (-7 dB each). Would it be a good idea to run a Channel Master 4 port distribution amp instead of the 4 way splitter in addition to the current amp? Or would it be better to get rid of current amp and splitter and just use the Channel Master? Or, would be be even better to add an amp at the antenna, ditch the current amp, and then use the current splitter? I have stations about 30 miles south that come in crystal clear, but 60-70 north that come in somewhat clear, sometimes not at all. Any input would be great! thanks!

That's ideally the best setup is if you can use an inline amplifier in an attic instead of a preamp outdoors. They tend to last longer.
Thank you Tyler. What about terminators? If I get a 4-way and I only have 3 TV’s, I need a terminator on the 4th output, correct?
Love to hear your opinion.
hey bud thanks for another great video just the answers i was looking for keep em comeimg
How do you determine whether the distribution amp or the preamp is a better solution? I have 4 tvs connected to my antenna.
Are outdoor/attic antennas safe to hang inside the house?
Great info! 👍🏽
Do you prefer the PCT-VC-5P or the CM-3414? I see they are roughly the same price.
Hi, just wondered if I could connect 2 antennas into 1 output to TV , could it work?
thx for the mini tip i should of watched it before i bought the 2 way splitter my original plan was to use one end for my tv and other end to my airTV 2 so that way if i’m out i can just watch my local programming through my sling account before installation i was able to get my scanned channels 95% of the time the 5% was just during storms after installation at random times one of my channels goes in and out but after seeing your video while searching for a fix i immediately changed the wiring while my show was on a break and have my airTV rescan and it got close to the same channels that my tv stored since the last scan which was when i moved out of my college dorm 5 years ago thx for the mini tip
@@AntennaMan Oh, cool and thank u for giving me a little info about this.
@@AntennaMan Good job Tyler. I like your videos.
Just to add to your reply:
Currently there are four 4K OTA test markets in the States: Phoenix, Cleveland, Dallas-Forth Worth and Chicago (march 2019). See the following links for more information:

You won't be able to watch any of these transmissions UNLESS you have an ATSC 3.0 tunner - they are not for sale yet - . It is just for broadcast test purposes.
You're done, not your done.
@@brucelipsitz7545 Thanks, Karen.
I'm looking to clean up my wire area. I have a small 9U rack for some networking. There's plenty of room, I'd love to change over to a rack-mount distribution amp. This would be mostly for OTA, as I have a fiber distribution for TV. Got any ideas for me?
Is it okay to have an amp at the antenna as well as a distribution amp in my basement to go to 2 or more TV’s? Is over amplification an issue?
Great videos. Ours is a analogue signal from far, just a cable, looking for the best pre amplifier
If you need further assistance feel free to sign up for my setup guidance service at the link below: antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
@@AntennaMan unfortunately the preamp is an indoor only amp. It has controls on it. The antenna is too far up to get that close...😢.
I'll tell you the model in a few minutes, you'll understand the delema.
Is it possible to reverse the set up ?
As in having multiple antennas into one t.v. set.
btw I understand that OTA Over the Air Television isn't a thing anymore
but can I see TV free if I have 1 Set top Box downstairs, I split the Cables one to the Box & one to my other TV can or will the other not work
How about terminating unused ports on a 4 way channel master powered unit ?..
Yes, you can use a Tablo which I attached below.
amzn.to/3NFUJL7
The TV in the other room will need to have a streaming device like a Roku or Firestick to access it on your wifi network.
another great video!!
I'm thinking about hooking up the antenna to a tablo box without a splitter. From there I can watch on any of my TVs without signal loss.
Yes but if it's two unpowered splitters you will kill your signal. Make sure at least one for splitters is powered
It could be the antenna booster in the home Pickens it up ones again thanks for your help on youtube
Wonder if I'd do better just getting a Tablo and stream it to the other TV's?
That's a good option if it is not feasible to directly wire each TV set. Most houses are pre wired with coaxial cable but not every house is
@@AntennaMan Right now I do have coax line to the rooms. but once I ditch cable I'll try them first, there's only one splitter and the cable works good on it.

I once met a pretty girl from Scranton...

Is there a way to join my antenna signal with my cable signal in the same coax without losing too much signal so I could distribute it to 3 tvs?
If you're asking if you can use your existing drops then yes. But if you're asking if you can merge your antenna and cable into one coax line then no.
Hey Tyler. What's the difference between a preamplifier and a distribution amp? Which is better for use on multiple tvs to avoid signal loss?
I have a video on this topic: ruclips.net/video/1x3M5rE2U24/видео.html
When I look at these type Splitter+Amplifiers, they say "Not compatible on systems with an existing amplifier or pre-amplifier."
I have a Televes DATBOSS LR Mix 149884, which comes with a Built-In Pre Amp.
DO you recommend the Channel Master or the Antronix 8 port ? Great channel, thanks
I recommend this one. It's the same one as the Channel Master model with additional gain on each output to compensate for signal loss in a long cable. It turns out they were the same models but just with "Channel Master" on them instead of "PCT"
amzn.to/2XiP2Y5
Do i need a tv converter box? I'm trying to set up another tv to the antenna and have a DC splitter and nothing worked.
Thank you!
Possibly. Cut the excess and make a new end.
If you're using a two way splitter but your only using one tv. Can that still weaken the single?
yes. it doesn't matter if it's connected to a tv or not
Good one my son.

Thanks for the videos. What do you think about flat coax cable to run through doors or windows?
I just took a look and the flat coax cable is incredibly thin and make kill some weaker stations if you are in a bad signal area
@@AntennaMan Not to mention the impedance mismatch. You would need a balun to match impedance.

It's one way to do it. I'd use a powered splitter instead.
Can you use a distribution amp with a pre-amp?
Yes
I forgot to mention that refurb dist amp was like brand new. I could not tell the difference.
Do you have any airplanes that fly overhead? That may affect the signal from time to time
@@AntennaMan Sometimes, but not at the frequency that this was happening a couple of days ago. Today, similar weather, and no issues. I don't get what is going on.
Do you think I should also be using a Pre Amp ?
Thanks Tyler
where would I install the distribution amp.. at the antenna or anywhere inside the house?
Inside the house where you are splitting to multiple TV sets.
Hey antenna man, thanks for the vids. I think I could use a distribution amplifier. Once in a while I lose the signal on a few channels. I have kind of a long run to my rooftop from a splitter in my basement. Its all rg6 and goes to 3 different rooms (small house). Put the powered cable splitter as close the the antenna as possible.

Does this work on wifi antennas?
I don't think so.
@@AntennaMan Makes sense, thanks for your response. I'm just glad it's working.

This usually goes inside where your splitter is. As long as you use a RG6 quad shield cable you can connect it 30 feet from the antenna. Check out my video on RG6 Quadsheild vs old RG59

Can I calculate my antenna height.
I'm a beginner.
You normally want an antenna at least 15 feet off the ground. The higher the better.
I live less than 10 miles away from major tv towers. I have 1 or 2 splitters and I get the national channels, which is all I care about.
Any input would be great! thanks!
