- I've designed these enclosures specifically to house dwarf hamsters. To recreate these cages for syrians you will need to make a deeper substrate boarder (at least 8") and add more height to accommodate for their taller supplies.

There's a bit of confusion over these cages so just to clarify, these are not replacements for any of our existing cages. We still have and continue to use the Petri Dish, Beaker and Test Tube.
- The Petri Dish is staying empty for the time being since Nitrogen's passing in late November.
- The Beaker was designed exclusively for Syrians and we're hoping it will get a new resident in 2020.
- The Test Tube was redesigned exclusively for mice and will also be getting a new resident in 2020.
Ps. It's okay to keep empty cages. You're not obligated to fill them up and shouldn't get new residents until you feel ready for them. Cages can take breaks too 😉

I don't even like hamsters (I've had them in the past and the experiences haven't been all that pleasant) but I'm loving the lengths you are going to, to ensure that the hamsters you have, get the best out of life. I also love watching you build the enclosures!

I am so impressed with the extent of the care you take for all your fur babies. Really, Erin you and Victoria Rachel are what hamster owners should strive to be like. You are a roll model for the newer generations. This is evolution at its finest! People now watch your videos and 95% of them will always try to, out do your cages or at the least, do much better for their hamsters. These hamsters will live better because of you. I want to buy one of these SO bad! It's so hard to find commercial places that do such great handiwork on enclosures. Finding ones that are accessible, aesthetically pleasing, big and roomy is so difficult and basically impossible. I would follow your directions and make one but being blind and all, probably not the best idea for me to operate any of the tools you use haha!

The fluffy housecoat was actually a great choice for that day.. It protected your midsection from getting poked a billion times from the very nasty ends of the wire mesh.. So I give you great props for thinking outside the box on your protective gear lol As always just amazing watching you build, your so amazing at this.. Thank you for sharing.

What a beautiful cage!!
All the DIY cages are amazing this one is very stylish.I’m soon going to upgrade my Syrian hamster from his 100x50 cm cage(780 sq inches) to a cage similar to the test tube but with the larger linnmon which is 120x60cm , over 1000sq inches of floorspace.

Hey erin I noticed my cambells had changed colour. I was confused. I now know they r changing into there winter coat but I couldn't find any videos on it. Could u maybe talk about it I think it could be helpful to other people.
I think your Campbell's is actually a Winter White, cause they look very similar, only the winter white, akin to its name, changes its coat in the winter.
How do you get your mesh not to be so rolled up, its so straight!

AshFuzzyDucky you can buy a small roll then lay it out for a day or so and set bricks on it. Or some wire is newer and isn’t as tight and stiff in a rolled way

I don't have this level of diy skills either so I turned an old cupboard on its back and that's my hampster's mansion now. Only had to make a lid with mesh for it!

I rarely replace my cages, these aren't replacements for anything they're in addition to my other 3 DIY cages :)

Those little pink and blue accents are adorable!! Love doing gender themed cages for my hammies 😍 also have male and female dogs so I always find myself buying matching baby blue and light pink bandanas lol...
So cute. I wanna make this only id put mesh wire behind the bottom part so my hammy doesn't escape thru those open holes.
There's glass behind those parts, they're windows. Wire mesh would prevent you from adding any substrate for burrowing which the hamster needs :)

kingdomhearts she sells them on ebay. ask stupid questions and get stupid answers. it would be an awful waste of wood if she were to make one every time. she obviously reuses them
No, I only make new cages when I need new cages. The only DIY cages I've ever gotten rid of were The Lack in 2014 as it sadly got a bad wood mite infestation and couldn't be saved so was thrown away, and The Bunsen which I took apart and reused the wood from it to make The Beaker cage. I still have and use all my other DIY cages :)

Is the minimum sized cage 360 square inches or 450 square inches? I personally think that 450 is way to low for Syrians I prefer 600-800.

What type of paint do you use for your pet cages
So I did something like this for my syrian and there's about 2 inches of wood between the top and bottom level. The bottom level is for a dwarf hamster I just got today and the top is for my syrian. My syrian freaked out!! She's biting everywhere and digging to get to the bottom to the dwarf. I'm so sad. What do you suggest? I spent 3 days on this project and my syrian hates the new dwarf and meanwhile the dwarf is happy as she can be.
