Great video Rus!!! I like to get Tomahawks once a year, mainly just for show!!! But I always like a good ribeye!!! You made cooking that thick cut look way too easy!!!! I am hungry now!!
Thanks Jeff! I think this is only my 2nd tomahawk and I only bought them for video purposes, but I do like how thick they are. Two people can eat one of these and feel completely satisfied no problem. I was really happy with the end results. Thanks buddy!
Damn that is a big boy steak!.. great video Rus.. and I can vouch for the quality of the embroidery work Lance does.. get that smokey ribs merch yall!!!
Russ, I have been a subscriber for a good while. I love to cook. I have thoroughly enjoyed your recipes and your take on many foods and their preparation. I really respect your innate knowledge and sense of "what works" and what tastes good. I just thought I would right and say this........ I have tried many of your suggestions and products. I bought a Lone Star Grillz smoker and love it. Stay well and keep up the great and very enjoyable work. Skip

My Mom's fam was all from NOLA but we had a small place my Dad and Uncles built out of two barracks they bought from Keesler AFB after the Korean War. Camille took care of that place!!!
Great looking steak. As long as you are willing to dig around the meat market and look for some good marbling. I tend to go for a boneless ribey. Take care Rus.
This was a great video Rus! You nailed the cook....thick is the way to go!! You know I just seen some of these at the market today but really didn't pay attention to the price. I had forgotten about the close difference between top end choice and low end prime. Have a great weekend Bud!!
Honestly over the years I have moved away from Rib Eye to New York’s. Only say it because I saw a Grillin buddy of mine at Costco and he had some superb looking Prime New York steaks. The thing we agree on is 1. Rib Eye costs more, 2. Ribs eye have way more fat which neither one of us eats in the end. Maybe a subject for you to explore. I also love the Prime Sirloin steaks I get from Costco. Also note that all steaks Prime and Choice are Pre Tenderized at Costco. Read the label.
We don't have a Costco, but Rouses where I bought this has decent meat vs the price. Ribeye remains my favorite but I will eat a porterhouse or T- bone from time to time which has the New York strip on one side. I'm just not crazy over the filet, mainly because it just doesn't have enough fat to flavor it well. It's tender, but lacks in flavor. I typically always go for ribeye and always have.
I once got the meat section at the store to cut off the bone. So I got the steak without the bone for the price of a tomahawk. #winnning Cheers! Your steak looked incredible!!!
Oh man you never disappoint......that is perfection right there. Not sure if a tomahawk steak is really worth it but its a personal choice I suppose....as they say whatever floats your boat. Thanks for sharing my brother. Cheers ✌️ 🍻
Excellent Rus - Hey, at ten bucks a pound for ribeye, it's still good - even with 2.5 lbs of meat left - Personally, I'd be gnawing the meat off the bone way before the dog gets it - lol - Cheers!
If you own a restaurant where your clientele are willing to spend $600 for a meal, then yes you must serve a Tomahawk Steak with the long bone. If you want to spend $150 for a steak dinner, serve a bone in rib-eye. If you want to spend $50 on a ribeye steak dinner just order a ribeye. No one eats the bone anyway so why pay for it? Paying for a long or short bone that you won’t eat is an entire waste of money. The first thing Russ did was to remove the bone that no one was going to eat anyway. Fact! Cheers!
Yeah it's more of a novelty thing. I mean it looks cool and all, but why pay for a bone? I only buy them for these videos. I think this is my 2nd one since I started this channel almost 11 years ago. Thanks for checking the video out!
Why does nobody cook these things well done is it the meat because I couldn’t eat that I’ve tried and it’s not for me and a lot of people get upset with me about that if I was your friend I would have had to tell you I got to go before you asked me to eat
It's just most people's preference because cooking a steak well done, makes it tougher and dryer but me or no one else should tell you how to cook or eat your steak. When I cook steaks in a party situation, I cook to your preference not mine. I cook to order like a steak restaurant does. If you want it well done, then well done you will get. Its really true with anything. I like things that other people hate and vice versa.
I like a good Porterhouse as well, but ribeye is my favorite. Not the bone, only the steak itself, but I did like how thick this one was. Thanks for watching!
Pretty much, but in our case Derek gnawed the meat off the bone and made one of his dogs very happy. So it wasn't a complete waste but for the most part I only buy these for video purposes. But on the plus side, we did split this big boy 3 ways and all of us felt completely satisfied. Guess it really all depends on how you look at it.
To answer the question flatly . NO! Very Over Rated cut. Pay for the price of the bone and gristle and have to find the meat. That has been my experience anyhow. sorry.
Thanks, I appreciate you checking it out. Porterhouse is a great steak and I get them often as well, but I do prefer a ribeye over them, but in all honesty this is the first steak I've had in quite some time. I know it's been at least 2 years so when I took a taste of this one, I was seriously in heaven. So good!

I've never cooked one myself, but have ordered them from some nice steakhouses here in TX. Something fun to eat every once in a while.

I'll be cooking one this weekend.

Looks good, nothing better than a good quality steak and a cold beer
Thanks! You got that right! Great pairing
Good to have one a year at least.. Impress the company✌😎
This was cooked to perfection, and was sssooo tender! My coworker loved it! I loved it! I had customers wanting it! I don’t share to well!
Glad you enjoyed it!

Such a great country we live in where we can watch a man grill a steak. Great video my friend. The steak is looking beautiful.

I wouldn't mind having a couple of those towels for my cookouts. Didn't find them in the description, though.
In the description I said to email me for the information on how to purchase the towels, hats, etc. russbjones58@gmail.com
A large bone s never a waste. That looked great Rus!
Thanks Troy!
That steak looks like it's cooked to perfection, Rus! I've got to cook me up some steak now!😋👍
It has been awhile since I've had a good steak Kevin and man! I was really enjoying this one!
I buy one at Sam’s when on sale!! Yummy- i have been doing reverse sear in oven . Will try my webber next time.

I'd be gnawing on that bone. Give it to the dog?! That's the closest thing to a Tomahawk I'll ever get. :) Great job, Rus!
That was the first thing Derek grabbed after we shut the cameras off. He loves gnawing the meat off of bones haha

Playing catch up Rus man that that looked good and thanks for the advertisement
Thanks for checking it out Lance
Does the avocado oil help with the sear? Maillard reaction?
It mainly helps with the final texture so the seared meat is not hard. You don't have to use it, but I always do
Oh man you never disappoint......that is perfection right there. Not sure if a tomahawk steak is really worth it but its a personal choice I suppose....as they say whatever floats your boat. Thanks for sharing my brother. Cheers ✌️ 🍻

Steak was cooked to perfection! Very nice Rus!
Thanks for checking the video out Luis!
Only if you're a vampire😁
Looks delicious Rus!
Thanks Christy! It was.
Can you smoke on this grill? Eyeing this one and lonestar adjustable charcoal grill
Yes you can and I have
Nice job
You can buy one at the grocery store for around 30 to $35... I'd say that's well worth it.....
That is one beautiful steak right there, just the way I like it.
Thanks, I appreciate you checking the video out!
omg! 😮 come and cook for me! the rib cap is truly the best!
Yes it is. To bad the majority of the steak is the eye and not the cap
@@SmokyRibsBBQ you can buy just the cap at some places, thats what i do.
Yeah I actually have a video on rib cap steaks that I did about 3 years ago
Great looking steak Rus 👍
That steak looks amazing, Russ! Thanks for sharing.
Your welcome, thanks for watching
Thanks for making me want a steak for breakfast sir. Great video.
You're welcome haha. Thanks for watching!
my god that looks great

Great video, never made one yet but its on the bucket list of things to grill for sure. I'm going to buy that hat you wore . Sweet hat bud!
Thanks I appreciate it! I believe you are the same guy I gave the info to earlier this morning. Lance does a great job with these hats.
Great video Rus! Can I ask where you got it from? I live in Ocean Springs.
I picked it up at Rouses there in Ocean Springs
@@SmokyRibsBBQ Hey Rus, that's where the Shed is, right?
Yes, but Rouses is off of Hwy 90 and the Shed is off of I-10 at the Hwy 57 exit
@@SmokyRibsBBQ I gotta get down there someday.
It is a really great looking tomahawk steak. I like how it turned out, on the outside, and on the inside. Cheers, Rus and Derek! 👍👍✌️
Thanks Dwayne, I was very happy with the results
You could cook me a steak any ole day...Fine Cook .
Raw.
Plain to see you know nothing about cooking steak and temperatures
Looks fantastic rus 😋
Thanks Sheena! Great to hear from you!

This is killing me!!
That's a beautiful thing Rus. You can't beat a steak with a handle. I would fight Derek's dogs for that bone too.🤣
Thanks Jack, we shared it and really enjoyed it. It's been awhile.
Where did you buy? I live in the DFW area.
Rouses in Ocean Springs
Great video as always Rus. I can skip the tomahawk. It’s the steak for me.
Thanks, and I'm the same way.
Awesome video Rus.. fyi if you’re in Mississippi you’re in Mississippi 😂😂
Thanks! We were in Alabama, but my heart is always in Mississippi haha
I say no. Tomahawk is just a novelty cut of meat. It's impressive, but not worth it in my opinion. Great video! Thanks!
Disgraceful to waste a rack of plate ribs for a marketing gimmick.
Nice Looking Steak, That's a lucky Dog.
Cooked bones aren’t good for dogs. Raw is best.
@@bravo9026 oooopppsss… been giving mine cooked bones last 2- years! She especially loves pork ribs🤣. Thanks for the heads up! No more for her!
When we finished shooting the video, the first thing Derek reached for was the bone haha. He nawed all the meat off
Very nice buddy, I don’t think the cost is worth it Rus… it’s just me
Thanks for watching! Same here.
Well, great video, but I think I'm missing something. That meat is not cooked to medium rare!
I suppose after a second look, could be neduim rear.... looks great anyway
It was definitely in the medium rare temp range and absolutely delicious. Thanks for watching.

Steak looks good but imo tomahawks are way overpriced, you are paying for big bone.........Porterhouse is way to go,i cook my meats on smoker.
Pay a fortune for a bone then throw it out.
Pretty much, but in our case Derek gnawed the meat off the bone and made one of his dogs very happy. So it wasn't a complete waste but for the most part I only buy these for video purposes.
