OMG, than you for this. I followed your instructions to a T and was blown away by the results. Once it hit 120 degrees internally I removed it from the oven and had my doubts because it was still reddish. But once I seared it for 3 min per side twice, I was amazed at the results! I’ve tried cooking tomahawks a few different ways but this reverse searing method is phenomenal! I will never cook them any other way. 🥩 was ❤️

My favorite steak preparation (after an absurd amount of experimentation) is to put it in the smoker at 225 until I reach the exact temp I’m looking for (not pulling it 10-20 degrees before), then letting it rest at least 20 minutes.
In the meantime, put a cast iron pan directly onto some screaming hot coals, throw in a healthy amount of beef tallow, then sear the steak in the beef tallow until you’re happy with the crust. Because you’re cooking it at such a high temp you’re going to get a really good crust before you have to worry about overcooking the steak .
I prefer my method of reverse see her, where I get the state to its final temperature and then wait 20 minutes or so to let the internal temperature drop back down (internal temp to drop 10-15 degrees) to be far more precise than a traditional reverse your preparation which has a little more variance in the final serving temperature.
    Great video, thanks.

That is a great way of making it for sure! I love the smoker too! 😀😀

    Great video. Thanks for sharing!
I saw some questions in the comments about the duration....
Based on the time in his oven, he started the fifteen min preheat at 11:20. So he started around 11:35 and ended 12:30ish. I had to pause and rewatch several times to see the duration.
Better get a meat thermometer. Getting the time will only help to know when to start coking before your guests become hungry

Ninja, you nailed it! I've done sous vide and it is long and time consuming method . It works very well for lessor cuts of meat, but a Tomahawk , 2'' thick , low and slow is the way to go.
250 cook with a 120 pull . I was happy at that point . The sear on the steak and the rest time made it worth the wait. Truth be told , I couldn't take my eyes off that bone . Best part!

You got me drooling again Ninja. I normally do sous vide for thick meats, but this is worth a try. I'm really anxious to try your chimichurri recipe. I'm not a fan of parsley, but love cilantro.

Ninja, this video will help a lot of guys (and girls) who live in the apartments and don't have grills on their backyard. You might want to warm them about fire alarms during the searing stage 😁. They might have some visitors from the fire deportment to join them for the dinner,

LOL if you sear it with no oil the smoking will be minimal but yep, there will be some smoke! Nothing crazy for us... 😀

So... I was watching another Tomahawk steak video today... Ninja your video was still AMAAAAAAAZING. I had to watch it again, and again to filter the other out. Your reactions are honest and your videos are more real than my love for steaks.
I wish for your subs to explode... speaking of subs, what is your favourite sandwich?

    • @SaltyTales
      @SaltyTales  3 года назад +1

Lol thank you so much! Cuban sandwich of course! 😀😀

Thank you guys so much for thinking outside of the box. EVERYONE talks about Sous Vide, smoking, and grilling but not many if anybody ever shows you how to cook without fancy smokers and grills don't get me wrong I LOVE to grill but it's not ideal to cook on charcoal everyday. It gets expensive lol. I love how much the channel has grown . Keep grinding brother... AND SISTER!!! 🤣😂🤣😂😂😂

Have you ever tried adding a little extra white pepper when seasoning your steak? I think I add it to too many things but it packs so much flavor
