Windows 10 - How to Activate New Hard Drives and SSD’s Not Showing Up
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- If your new HDD or SSD is not showing up and you have them properly installed in to your motherboard follow the steps on this video.
This tutorial will also work for Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1 devices.
Issues addressed in this tutorial:
activate new hard drives
activate new hard drive Windows 10
activate new hard drive Windows 7
new hard drive not showing up Windows 10
new hard drive not showing up
new hard drive not showing up in disk management
new hard drive not recognized
new hard drive not showing up in disk management Windows 10
new hard drive not appearing
new hard drive not showing up Windows 7
new hard drive not detected
new hard drive not working
new hard drive not appearing in disk management
Most of us probably use only one hard disk drive in the computer, but some people who need more space, tend to use two, as well. And some of the users who are using the second hard drive have reported that their computer isn’t able to detect the second one, after Windows 10 upgrade. So we came up with a couple of solutions, which, I hope, will solve the problem.
When a computer won't recognize a secondary hard drive or second hard drive not showing up properly, you must follow some do's and don'ts. At the same time, identify the root of the problem and find corresponding solutions.
This tutorial will apply for computers, laptops, desktops, and tablets running the Windows 10, Windows 8/8.1, Windows 7 operating systems.Works for all major computer manufactures (Dell, HP, Acer, Asus, Toshiba, Lenovo, Samsung).

Yeah literally had no clue about this when I got my new SSD. I will never forget this.
Nice, information is knowledge.
Yes, I was assuming Best Buy sold me a bad SSD Drive or there was something to the SATA iii or I needed a drive software to operate.
Well, I will give this a try! I just got here and am still thinking that I need to download some drive software, that's why I'm in the comment section before I start.
@@rafelemay5070 Did you fix it? Mine isn't even showing up in the BIOS or the disk partition management window. I don't know what to do.
@@mikeexits Always look at whether or not it appears in the BIOS first. If, as you say, it doesn't even appear there, then it's most likely that either the cables aren't plugged in where they belong, or even that the drive is damaged unfortunately. I'm no expert here but it could also be that the drive simply isn't compatible with your MB(which I find hard to believe) I hope you fix your problem soon. Lucky it's only a drive.
@@mikeexits either double check the connection or it might be that you just got a lemon. sucks if it's the second thing....

@Omer Akcan An SSD doesn’t improve in game performance, SSD’s are known for increasing things like load times and download speeds as well as boot times etc , I suppose an SSD could improve in game performance of things like textures are being loaded from the SSD but it won’t be noticeable really
how did i find you here, i love your music btw

6 years later and still a major help. Perfect tutorial, tysm.
Incredibly simple and to the point, I really appreciate the help, I've recently built my very first pc (all around new to them) and decided to buy both SSD and HDD for storage but just noticed that when I try to choose a specific storage device to save specific games to that I only saw the 1tb SSD and not the 2tb HDD. Your video made quick work of my problem!
I appreciate this tutorial video. It helped me set up my new SSD, it was straight forward and easy to follow along. Thank you.
I know you posted this 6 years ago but thank you so much I really appreciate it thank you for such an easy tutorial
Extremely well made and detailed video. Excellent job, and thank you for helping me set up my new ssd :)
if your HDD or SSD isnt showing up on the partitions part of this video, make sure the sata data cable is plugged into the correct slot on the mobo, many mobos will need you to plug it in in a certain order. you can find the order in the manual, or written on the mobo next to the sata data ports
Thanks, man! It was driving me crazy not having my system detect my new ssd. I looked up my MOBO and found on my MSI b450 gaming plus max, sata 5-6 aren't available if you use the m.2 slot. Powered down and swapped to a different sata port and the ssd was immediately recognized.
you are a mvp.
@@ImConstantlyConfused dude thank you so much I randomly saw this and I have the same mobo it worked perfect all I did was swap slots

Hey @Zapo, did you ever get this resolved?

@sph0rk do you see the new drive? If you do not it could be a cabling issue. I know that on my new MSI Motherboard I had to use the next consecutive sata connection I could not skip 1 or two for convenience

Holy shit bro thank you so much for this solution! I was getting really stressed out because of my brand new hard drive. I didnt know that I had to activate it :D
This may be a stupid question, but how can I do this if the "Unallocated Space" tab isn't there for me to right click on? What do I do then?
scroll down, if you have more than 2 disks you wont see the others until you scroll down, either that or your hardware is not working properly
I'm so glad i came here before i went and returned my hard drive! i thought it just wasn't working😂😂
Same but i had an ssd

My PC does not recognize SSD, no unallocated volume with black bar.
same an solution yet?
I've had to watch this 3 times. I forget between new SSD purchases.
I completely forgot that you needed to format the hard drive before you can use it.
I miss helpful videos like this. Short, to the point, and everything I needed to know.
One word to describe my feelings after watching this video: PHEW!
what if its not showing up in the partitions in the first place?
I know! That's the issue I'm having. Every tutorial says the same thing. Go to Disk Management, right click on unallocated disk and then click on new simple volume... but what do you do if it's not even showing up as a unallocated disk in the Disk management to begin with?
Leemoore Gaming I realized mine just wasn’t plugged in correctly, (only sata cable no power) so when I get around to plugging in the power it SHOULD show up on the partitions, but if not I’m back on the same boat as you
@@alainwho mines in the m.2 slot. how do i get power to it?

None of my Drives are unallocated so none of them have the black bars on them only the blue ?
Probably not installed correctly or something is faulty
You have to initialize the drive 1st. Scroll to the bottom of the screen.
same
Moonpie Spotlight how do u initialize it?
@@5ohpablo Right click in the grey area, you should see a menu. Initialize disk is one o fhe options.
I installed my second SSD into the second m.2 slot on my motherboard and it isnt showing in the places you have showed. In the BIOS however it says that slot is deactivated. Any help? (Edit: The second M.2 port was M.2 PCIe only so my M.2 SATA ssd wasn't read, and I had to buy a M.2 NVMe ssd for that slot
Hey, I dont know if you solved this, but just a heads up: if you install m.2 drives, sometimes various SATA ports cant be used. (For my motherboard, if I have a m.2 in the first slot, the sata2 port is disabled. If I use m.2 slot 2, the 6th sata port is disabled). Not sure if that is a problem, but it is something to be aware of
