    I'm quite surprised that you dont need reinforced tailgate hinges as well

    • @benanton2619
      @benanton2619 6 лет назад +11

      Juan Durandt I feel the same way, the weight of the tire would be on the hinges, not the actual tailgate. I feel like the steel “reinforcement bracket” just adds more unnecessary weight to be carried on the hinges when opened.

    • @MassiveDerek
      @MassiveDerek 6 лет назад +10

      The hinge isn’t the weak point, the surface of the tailgate is more prone to bending than the hinges are. The reinforcement bracket spreads the extra weight over a larger surface area to prevent the tailgate itself from buckling.

    • @djjmann
      @djjmann 5 лет назад +7

      To add, the tailgate of the JL is significantly more reinforced compared to the JK. The JL has a magnesium tailgate frame that not only twice as thick as the JK, but is lighter and stronger than the steel stamped JK tailgate. The JL also has more robust tailgate hinges, much larger than the JK. Overall, the entire tailgate assembly of the JL is superior.

      @chrisjones2252 4 года назад

      @Yahsone If it is a JL Rubicon it will be fine. Jeep reinforced the tailgate over the JK considerable more. The JL Rubicon can run 35" tires without a lift.

    Thanks, your videos are the best. One thing I think is a mistake, at 5:09 in the video, the spacer labeled "top" comes from the relocation kit where it comes with 4 top and 4 bottom spacers. I think instead of that piece, you are supposed to use the spacer that came with the tailgate reinforcement kit to go under that bracket. Its not labelled top or bottom. This leaves the 4 top and 4 bottom pieces that came with the spare tire relocation kit to be used on the *outside* portion of the bracket with the mopar stamp. You can choose to not use them at all, use 2 top and 2 bottom, or double stack them 4 top and 4 bottom, to give three different outward spacing options depending on your tire requirements.

    Thanks for the vid - appreciate the content. Is it just me... probably a great kit but you're still technically carrying 100% of that wheel and tire weight on the tailgate and hinges even though the weight is distributed a little better with the Mopar kit? Nice easy install though.....

  • @johnpurtell1142
    @johnpurtell1142 Год назад

    No way that 37’s over time on stock hinges will last.
    Also that tire carrier is made out of magnesium, that will not hold up overtime with a 35 or 37 inch tire. You are asking for trouble.

  • @Beebake
    @Beebake 3 года назад +1

    why is the whole kit $1045 plus tax on your website vs $429 plus tax on Mopar site?

  • @The6FigureAffiliate
    @The6FigureAffiliate 3 года назад +1

    Thanks for the vid - I see how the weight is distributed across the tailgate but all the weight is still technically sitting on the two primary tailgate hinges correct? The tailgate is still forced to hold all the weight of the 37" wheel and tire? Thx

  • @louisbaghec2570
    @louisbaghec2570 4 года назад +3

    I don’t see how this will reinforce the tailgate cause all the weight of the tire is still on the hinges of the tailgate.

    • @M511Tactical
      @M511Tactical 4 года назад

      JL models come built for heavier loads on tailgate after customer feedback from JK models. Completely redesigned the construction of the gate

    • @ChrisCareyCode
      @ChrisCareyCode 3 года назад

      Yeah I was wondering the same thing. With this mod the hinges are not only carrying the weight of the larger tire but also the weight of the heavy reinforcement panel as well. Apparently the hinges can handle the weight, it's the back door panel its protecting by shifting some of that weight off the door panel and on to the hinges. The other thing is that stock, the hinges connect to the back door just a few inches on the end of the door with 4 bolts. This mod extends the length of the hinge half way across the door, and connects the hinge to the back door with 12 (the original 4 plus 8 more) bolts

    You can adjust the third brake light as well

  • @dgriffin1671
    @dgriffin1671 5 лет назад +1

    What was used to relocate the 3rd brake light to where it can be seen over the tire? I thought it was only tall enough to be seen over a 35" tire. It looks like something has moved it up a few inches

  • @chrispelt7963
    @chrispelt7963 3 года назад +1

    What did you do with the 3rd rear light? In the video when you guys trial lifted that wheel up, it looked like the tire was covering it/hitting the brake light. But your final clips showed the brake light to be well above the tire.

    I’d like to add this kit to my 2018 JL Sahara. I’m going from an 18” wheel (33” tire) to a 17” wheel (35” tire) Will I need anything more than what I see in the video?

  • @airlinkssuspension5878

    How does this actually help the hinge weight? Also, why does one clip show the tire covering the third brake light then the final clip it doesn't? What did you do?

  • @JLUOffRoad
    @JLUOffRoad 3 года назад

    I don't see how is this going to help, all you are doing is adding more weight to the tailgate main hinges by installing the kit. I recommend Spartacus HD kit for 37" tires.

      The bracket itself is coated in that heavy duty truck bed material, like what they use on the bumpers and rock rails. Unless you know a good way to strip that coating off, these would be difficult to powder coat.

    On stock rims do do 35s and 37s need spacers

    • @cliffzwiercan4645
      @cliffzwiercan4645 6 лет назад

      For normal driving you can adjust the steering stops a bit and the stock rims without spacers are fine. When at full flex spacers will keep it from rubbing the skid plate and control arms.

    I just bought a 2018 Rubicon with the same rims. I didn't realize you could put 35 or 37 in tires on those rims being only 7.5" wide for the inside of the rim. What tires are those? Also, how does this reinforce the tailgate? Wouldn't the hinges need to be upgraded? It looks like this kit just adds more weight? Very interested in this. Not trying to sound sarcastic at all just very curious about doing this myself. Thanks. Great vid!

    • @CJBroncoF150
      @CJBroncoF150  6 лет назад

      The plate on the outside ties the hinges more into other locations making it stronger. The tires we chose are a 37x12.5 Cooper and they mounted up no problem.
