I really just have one question which is how did you run the DRL light wire. I’m planning to install mine once my liners get in and I want the wires to be touched away. Thanks

    That's a cool setup, but I imagine that to change the tire would suck. You'd need to remove the brake light entirely to get at the tire. I do know though that you aren't changing that thing alone, haha, I have a hard enough time with the 33s on my TJ!

    I took the stock spare tire carrier off my TJ to put in a rear bumper/spare tire carrier. I also didn't get an inspection for over 3 years and didn't realize I needed that 3rd brake light to pass😅. I zip tied that light to the aftermarket carrier and ghetto rigged the wiring barely good enough to get to the shop and pass inspection haha

    So to change a flat tire you will need extra tools like a tork bit kit on hand and a highlift jack of some sort . Great install and I agree on the tub openings being covered maybe they should make a seal for them or you could use some big rubber O rings to fill the gap so water don't find its way in because we all know Jeeps like to rust 😂

    Maybe you have seen this maybe not:
    Some people take the front hub, spindle, and axle shaft from a vehicle with manual locking hubs (most common is a Chevy 10-bolt/Dana 44 hub), then weld the axle shaft to their custom bumper, then bolt/weld the spindle around the shaft. They then weld the outer hub to a tire carrier arm, assemble the hub and presto! Spare tire carrier that won’t ever have hinge sag and you can lock it in any open position via the manual locking hub. Because the hub was originally made to carry a vehicle, it is far more than adequate for a tire carrier. And the whole shebang of pieces can be bought for comparable or lower cost than traditional carrier hinge kits.
    Plus the locking hub adds flare to your bumper.
    Just my 0.02, take or leave it

    The JL tailgate is super strong, according to Jeep, it can handle 85lbs more on top of what the stock spare weighs.
    So just weigh your stock spare add 85lbs and that will be your max overall spare weight.
    Unless you plan on running 37s plus, you don't need a reinforcement.

    @4:45 It's easier to take the inner plastic panel of the tailgate off, unclip the third brake light & camera wires and then push the grommet and wires out of the tailgate from the inside. This way you don't have to mess with taking the third brake light housing all apart on the vehicle.

    Love the channel been a big fan since the early days keep up the great work! I had a quick question I know this is off topic but I need help, if anyone here or you can point me in the right direction it would help me a lot.
    Heres whats going on, I have a 1991 jeep cherokee 4.0. 217,000 k miles on it, it was burning oil so I had no choice but open it up and see what is going inside.
    Took off the head saw bad burnt values so I started with the head took them all out cleanded them up and did value job with compound and that rubber tool to re seat them everything looked perfect after that seat was perfect also value steams where changed few months before this so they looked OK. After the head I saw the block walls where smooth with no cross patterns left, so I took all the pistons out rings where not stuck or brunt they moved freely, next I re hoaned the walls to make the crisscross pattern I removed all the rings and cleaned all pistons up everything was super clean and rings where moving like they where new I also replaced the piston bearings cause they showed sign of wear. Before I put everything back I did a simple test put one piston in and poured oil on top of it to see if oil would drop through the rings left it for 2 days no oil went through I did the same test before I did the hoan and clean up of piston rings and oil fell through within hours. So I thought this was a good sign. after hoaning and ring clean up I believed rings where tight and no blow by was going to happen. Then I put everything back in. the car stared perfect and I thought everything was great then I did compression test each read same reading 125.125.125.125.124 126.
    So I drove it about 100 miles and oil was below safe line, OKi though maybe the rings need time to set in new block walls but no 1000 miles later I'm burning even more oil then before almost a whole quart every 70 miles that's really really bad.
    My mistake I feel is because I didn't replace the piston rings ? But they looked totally fine and where moving with ease.
    Please what do you think I did wrong here? I don't want to give up on this jeep but this is crzy how much oil it's going through I'm willing to take it apart again trying to fix it, currently it has good power no blue smoke but the oil I just disappearing. Sorry this is so long but I'm so lost and any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @tomd1939
      @tomd1939 4 года назад

      I would start by pulling the spark plugs and checking them for signs of oil. Try to narrow down which cylinder(s) are the offending ones. It could only be the rings or valve/valve seals if its getting into the chamber, right? Unless the head or block are worpped enough that's causing the head gasket to have a faulty seal between the block and head. But you would most likely be burning coolant with that too. I'm sorry to hear that, after all that work it's gotta be frustrating to have to do it all again

    I am curious why you chose that route vs a bumper w/tire carrier? Oh.. and are those Road Armor Fenders you put on that JLUR?

    • @bleepinjeep
      @bleepinjeep  4 года назад

      I'd much rather have the spare on the tailgate if possible just because of the time and effort it takes to open two separate latches all the time. Plus its much cheaper!

    • @sorenmelchior
      @sorenmelchior 4 года назад

      @@bleepinjeep Some bumper mounted options you wont have to use two latches...Road Armor and Roam both have systems that you just open up tail gate and it opens tire carrier with it. But yeah, they get pricey. My road armor stealth fenders+ front and rear bumper+carrier+ shipping to Alaska . It adds up fast.

    After 2 years, is this still holding up well with the 37? I'm getting 37s delivered this week (hopefully) and need to replace my stock spare tire carrier and hinges. Was looking at the Evo one but this one seems a bit less expensive and if it does just as well....

    Do you think this one is better than the factory Mopar heavy duty carrier?

    • @kswyg001
      @kswyg001 4 года назад +1

      Based on past experiences with the rugged ridge brand........Mopar would be a better choice. I was kinda hoping that MorRyde would release a system for the JL, it'll be a much more secure system and they use bearings that you can grease.

    • @LarryRichelli

      @@kswyg001 The mopar kit does not replace the hinges. It just reinforces the tailgate. So how is it better than Rugged ridge?

    • @kswyg001
      @kswyg001 3 года назад

      @@LarryRichelli Rugged Ridge is low quality cast parts with close to zero QA checks and the tolerances are not spec'd or checked. Mopar buys from other vendors (tailgate hinge system and lift kits are good examples) where they must meet a particular design requirement as the dealer has to warranty it for at least 2 years. Rugged Ridge is a good economic option, but not a good long term solution with durability in mind.

      @@kswyg001 I had ordered the rugged ridge from amazon but canceled after I found this out and bought the Barricade tire carrier. It will let me adjust the wheel both in and out and up and down.

    • @kswyg001
      @kswyg001 3 года назад

      Barricade, Rugged Ridge, Smittybilt- they're all the same, just with different stickers. They are good short term solutions but aren't quite at the same level as the MorRyde, Metalcloak, Teraflex, etc of that sort.
