How do I set a gripper without hurting my finger? (With Slo-mo demonstrations!)

  • I've recently had a number of people, veteran and noob alike, talk to me about hurting their setting hand when doing work with grippers. Knurling on gripper handles can be sharp and just like a cheese grater, it can rip up your finger in short order. How do I keep from turning my finger into hamburger meat? Watch this and find out.
    The grippers used in this video are a Captains of Crush #1 rated 79lbs, a Gillingham High Performance 5 rated 113lbs, a Gillingham High Performance 7 rated 153lbs, and a Cannon Powerworks CPW300 rated 184lbs.
    You can get all these grippers at www.cannonpowerworks.com.
    For a good explanation on gripper ratings (and why the manufacturer rating doesn't mean anything), check out this video: • Video

    Great vid! I recently ordered the CoC #1,2,3,4. I'm probably going to hang the #4 on the wall as a decoration, maybe use it to hold up my car when I change a tire.

      Why did u order a 3 & 4 ? There's only five guys that have closed a 4. Now they've changed the set-up rules, no-one can do it. Love your funny comment.

    One of the very best videos on the subject I have seen. The slow motion and the details helped, with great visual clarity to boot! And you're a beast, on top of it!

    What range of motion am I looking for once I get it set to count multiple reps?

    • @Barrelstrengthsystems
      @Barrelstrengthsystems  2 года назад +1

      Use whatever range of motion makes sense for your training goals. I typically try to open just past parallel because most of my closes are from that set.

    Basically this aint working for me. My hand lenght is 21cm. If i set gripper like this only bottom of my fingers are pushing the handle.

    • @Barrelstrengthsystems
      @Barrelstrengthsystems  3 года назад +2

      21cm is a pretty long hand. You might not need to set very deep to produce power. Basically, you only want to set as deep as you need to get your fingers around the handle and make sure the handle in your palm doesn't slide back towards your wrist.

      @@Barrelstrengthsystems How to improve in not letting the handle slide back towards your wrist? I find myself setting it more or less properly but the handle slides back making it extremely hard to close. I am planning on getting some chalk, but apart from that how do I improve at this?
