George Walker was the first Black American to win the Pulitzer Prize for Music. He was a Fulbright Scholar, organist, and concert pianist - the first Black classical instrumentalist to play with the Philadelphia Orchestra or to be signed by major management. His compositions transcend genre and are too rarely performed. We were honored to feature his works on both of our concerts this past fall.
Chanticleer is a GRAMMY-winning vocal ensemble composed of six countertenors, three tenors, and three basses. This recording was made possible by strict personal quarantines before and during a masked, distanced rehearsal process in a huge space with good air flow.
