    Love these things. You have to remember that flipping the bottle turns the stove off, purges the fuel line, and bleeds the air pressure out of the bottle all in one step. To save fuel, plan the shutoff into your cooking. Time the flash to bang time on the flip to flame out so you know. Great design, great stove. Just remember to never turn it off with the control valve. When it cools it will seize up. Just heat it up again with a torch or a long preheat and it will free up again. Download the manual and follow it. RTFM!

      Wow great info thank you ! 😊 so just flip the bottle and let the stove consume the remaining fuel in the line until it shuts off ? Will do thanks , I just bought the new version of this stove , the one with the green handle , it should arrive next week ! Great advice thanks 😊

    My all-time favourite stove. Mine has been going strong for ~20 years with little to no maintenance... just keep the pump cup and o rings lubricated. MSR fuel bottles (and likely others) work perfectly with the pump. I just bought another Nova on eBay so I have a spare. Enjoy!

      @@doinsngoins do a video on this. I just pick up one of these at a garage sale for $10! Guy said it didn't pump and had tried a new seal kit that he included. I suspect the leather seal cup just needs soaking in oil, this mornings project. Would be interesting to know what is involved in upgrading to the new pump though.

    I'm curious why you had to replace the pump assy?? I've the Optimus Nova, original style purchased from the US importer, Brunton. It has served me well for more than a decade, never a problem, always reliable
    Just remember to grease all the O rings occasionally. First use the noise was unbearable. Found a different brand of quiet cap, reduced to little more than a whisper. Plus, a softer more uniform flame pattern for more control at very low simmering but no loss in performance at wide open setting.

    • @doinsngoins
      @doinsngoins  Год назад

      Not sure I ever said that I replaced the pump , this is my first Nova and purchased it foolishly without the accessories. The pump is very hard to find . I like the quiet cap that I chose. Thank you . will take your remaining constructive criticism to heart thank you , anything else ?

  • @antonyheisler1453

    you should be able to buy the newer nova + hose and valve to match the newer pump and fit it to the old nova stove. that would update it to also use cannister fuel just like the newer nova.

    • @doinsngoins
      @doinsngoins  7 месяцев назад

      I tried , sadly they do not mate , I'm looking for a company that can make a hose just as you suggested, I bought the new Nova set and its not bad , I actually use it quite a bit. Thanks for the comment and kindness.

    • @antonyheisler1453
      @antonyheisler1453 7 месяцев назад +1

      If you are the handy type I would then look at trying to put the original hose fitting that meets the stove onto the new hose in place of the new hose end fitting. There has to be a way to get the job done. They're just pipes and fittings. And adapter perhaps? @@doinsngoins

    • @doinsngoins
      @doinsngoins  7 месяцев назад

      @@antonyheisler1453 perhaps, the parts should exist to make one from scratch , that would be ideal .

    Ya, I've been looking for a small bottle for my pump but no luck. But then I remembered I had old Sigg bottle way back when. I'm not sure if it a fuel bottle or an actual water bottle. I did find my pump after watching your video with your Optimus. I tried it, but I think I'm going to need some of your expertise. I might be missing an o ring or something cuz I'm getting spay back from the pump when trying to pump it up. I know nothing about these stove other than hooking up to a canister. But I'm using white gas in the bottle. That should work? Or no?

    • @doinsngoins
      @doinsngoins  Год назад

      Yes white Gas is what I use , which stove ? The Bottle O ring can probably be found at the HW store, is the pump handle pushing back ?
