thanks! I just grabbed a svea for $5 at an estate sale and I think this is the best option for a carry case and pot kit.

Placed an order on the svea and terra HE the other day. Glad to see this now. Looks like a good combo.

A very nice match up! An old Svea 123, ebay restoration project is also an option. Some people claim that the burn is better without the new internal cleaning pin and that it's easier to achieve a low simmer on the older models. The Optimus Terra Weekend HE is a smart value at around $30. Another good option would be to pair up that Optimus $30 Terra HE with a Primus Classic Trail Gas Stove + 4 season mix, only $25 from Walmart. Add in something like a stainless steel Ikea utensil holder, a couple of metal tent pegs for height adjustments. And you'll have a solid stove and cook set with gas. Running at an equivalent or better boil time of your above setup for approx. $65 to $70.

Wow! That is faster than the REI test I saw back in the 1980's. I think they boiled 18 oz. of water in about 5 minutes in a more conventional pot. The implication here is that the heat exchanger really helps.

Beware that heat exchangers cause the stoves to produce a lot more carbonmonoxide than normal kettles; leathal levels actually. The Svea 123 and Terra Weekend HE is a great combo as long as you never use it inside an enclosed space such as a tent.

I have this exact set up. I also use this pot with the Snow Peak Gigapower stove witch is awesome.

Hi body It seems not working properly due to the sound it makes , you’d better work on how to fire it efficiently the sound should be smooth

    Hi Amel,
Just picked up a Optimus set and really like it. I noticed you also have the none heat exchange version of this pot. I'd really like to know the time difference in boiling two cups in each of those pots. You said you had done some testing and carry the HE pot despite the extra weight. Do you remember what the times were?
Also white fuel is basically a cleaner burning version of gasoline right? I had a Coleman stove that burnt kerosine, gasoline, or white fuel and I always burned gas because I can get it out of my motocycles tank really easy and I camp on the motorcycle a lot. It always blackened the bottom of my pots. Does this white fuel do the same?
    Thanks for the excellent video!

Hi Amel. I enjoyed your review/demonstration but am a little curious about one thing you mentioned. The Svea 123 fitting inside the pot system seems very convenient in terms of saving pack space and also protecting the stove, but I feel hesitant about doing so. White gas is both pungent and poisonous, and I wondered if you have any concerns or experiences about this way of storing your stove.

M00nsplitter I have not had any bad experiences with the stove being transported in the pot. I do not store the stove in the pot at home. I too have thought about the fuel in my cooking pot issue and about a year ago started carrying the stove in a quart zip-lock bag (I think its a quart), in the pot. I decided to start doing that to mitigate the chance of fuel or soot from the burner getting in my pot. However, I have never experienced a contamination of the pot previously. Better safe then sorry.

Very nice! I have used a discontinued gsi set. The hard anodized double boiler with my sveas. I can see that the heat exchanger would be a good improvement. I think a lot of the 'tall and narrow' pot sets on the market would benefit from this type of setup to maximize heat transfer. Do you ever find yourself in need of a windscreen? There is a coughlans brand one that works well with sveas in my experience. It's 5-6 aluminum panels with stakes at either end. It doesn't completely enclose the stove.

Nicely done. And: a great idea to use that pot on a SVEA. Thank-you.

The stove is nice, but I really like the look of your Optimus Terra Weekend HE .95L Pot. I like so much that you might even see it on one of my own videos soon. Cheers Glenn

these stoves are bullet proof. No other stove can match the reliability of the Svea123.

How much water was used? if 500 ml was used then 3 minutes was way too slow. A heat exchange pot with a Soto Windmaster boils 500 ml in 1:40 minutes

    • @emcaccoc3
      @emcaccoc3 5 лет назад +2

The Soto is a 11000 BTU stove, the Svea is only 4700 BTU. Why one would choose one over the other isn't best determined by boil times.

Alcohol tiny bottle is perfect to bring to prime your svea stove you dont really want to use the White gas "Colemen fuel" to prime the stove for one its takes longer two it turns your burner bell into a black sooty mess... Also using the alcohol you dont have to wait for the "Sputtering" roar to settle down before you start cooking. The alcohol primer will just start your stove up like a champ because its preheated hotter than white gas.
