  • Some friends here have been requesting that I prepare fish whole, with the skin on. I’ve done that before years ago, but I think it’s time to try it again! Whole fish is the tastiest! And it’s easy! Let’s give it a try. Oh, wait… we need to pick up some fish. See the recipes, fishing equipment, music credits and more below.
    Grilled Whole Bluegill
    Ingredients:
10 bluegill of 8 inches or longer
¾ stick of unsalted butter, melted
    McCormack’s Gourmet Collection Cajun Seasoning
    Directions:
Scale the bluegill with the back of a knife or fish scaler
Place the fish on a cutting board, it’s back toward you, it’s head to your right
Insert knife forcefully just behind the fish’s gill flap
Cut down and toward you to detach the top part of head
With your right hand, grab the head and pull it down, and away from the fish
Remove the guts along with the head
Wash the inside cavity of any remaining blood and tissue.
Cut 4 or 5 slits on a angle on each side of the fish
Lay the fish out on a baking sheet and butter the top side
Season the top side with Cajun seasoning
Flip the fish and butter the other side
Season the other side with Cajun seasoning
    Set a grill to medium-high
When hot, oil the grill with vegetable oil and paper towels
Place the fish on the grill for 5 minutes with grill covered
Flip the fish and grill the second side for 4 to 5 minutes more
    Serve! Watch for the bones!
    Grilled asparagus:
    Ingredients:
    1½ pounds of asparagus
¼ to ⅓ cup of olive oil
    1 teaspoon of seasoned salt
    ½ teaspoon of fresh pepper
    Directions:
trim the woody parts of the asparagus, saving only the upper ½ to ⅔ of each spear.
Place asparagus in shallow container and drizzle the olive oil over it
    Sprinkle with the seasoned salt
    Mix all ingredients well
    Set a grill to medium-high
When hot, oil the grill with vegetable oil and paper towels
Place asparagus on grill for between 5 and 8 minutes with grill closed
    Serve!
    Fishing Equipment:
The lure is a Zman “CrusteaZ” in bloodworm color. It is attached to a Gopher 1/16 ounce jig head in chartreuse-black.
The spinning reel is a Pflueger Trion GX-5. This model is no longer made.
The spinning reel line is SpiderWire, Ultracast, Invisi-Braid in 10 pound test, 2 pound monofilament equivalent.
The spinning rod is a tiny Daiwa SMC401ULFS Spinmatic-C SpinRod (4- Feet, Ultra Light, 1 Piece, 1-4 pound line test recommended). It can be found on Amazon, Fish USA, and other places.
The boat is a Bass Hunter I ordered from Bass Pro Shops about 12 years ago. They no longer sell it. Also, this model is no longer available, but newer models like it are still sold. Check here: www.sportsmansg...
    FISH IN THE LAKE:
largemouth bass, bluegill, white crappie, black crappie, yellow perch, channel catfish, and grass carp
    WHY KEEP SMALL BASS:
We had biologists come out and do an electroshock survey of the lake. They found too many small, stunted bass. Their advice was to remove all bass under 12 inches, and to release the bigger ones. This rule is usually the opposite in large public lakes.

Good morning John, what a beautiful summer day fishing. Your yard is such a beautiful shade of green. That is one cool machine that takes the scales off the fish. Your grilled fish looked very good. Oh my grilled asparagus I bet they were Yummo! I will have to try that soon. We'll Miss Lulu knows you well with your team!! 😉 Hugs to you both and Thank you for the weekly smiles. Love you both!! ✨❤️

Hi Brenda! This day was beautiful! But we've had hardly any rain since then, and the grass is showing the stress. Even the leaves at the end of the trees are wilting. The scaling machine not only saves a lot of time but a big mess! LOL! This is the most sweet, tender and flavorful fish I can prepare! The great taste is worth the little bit of extra work to pick around the bones. The asparagus of course was wonderful done on the grill like this. At least there is something about me that Ms. Lulu loves, even if it is just my team! LOL! Thanks so much for your kindness my dear friend! All the best to you and Chris!

Great video my friend! Hope all is well with you and Ms. Lulu. When your grill does that it's air locked. Make sure you shut the gas off and keep burners open. Let the air-fuel come out till it stops hissing. (Most important is gas shut off at the valve). Shut all burners down and re ignite. Should fix it from varying temperatures

Haha, you do it all for the thrill and grill, and Lulu's love of course! Thanks for leaving the skin on and cooking them whole. I usually leave the head on too, because some of the best meat is around the head and cheek area. And of course, I also eat the eyes, they are pretty delicious haha!

      @Juanelo1946  8 лет назад

Hi Siri! Lulu's love is most important of course! LOL! I've always known that fish taste better whole and with the skin on. Yes, the cheek areas have delicious little pieces of meat! But I couldn't leave the head on. Lulu did not want the fish looking back at her. I can't wait to tell her that you even eat the eyes! LOL!! I bet they are GOOD!! Thanks so much for your kindness my dear friend!

Awesome Juanello,,, I need to remember how you cleaned that bluegill by just simply ripping the head down and pulling everything out,,, NIIIIICE... the grilled bluegill looked very tasty,,, and so did the asparagus,,, I also really liked that fish descaler,,, very nice... once again thanks for sharing my friend.

    • @Juanelo1946
      @Juanelo1946  7 лет назад +1

Hi Daniel! I saw the trick of gutting bluegill many years ago on TV. It's something everyone who likes whole-cooked bluegill should learn! The fish descaler is a godsend when you have dozens of fish to clean! This might be my favorite way to eat bluegill, but my dear Ms. Cheeks would rather have her fish filleted! Thanks so much for watching my shows and for your really kind words my friend!

You were on the fish again but when are you not...That lake is amazing...I really liked how you took the head and insides of that fish out with one motion also...Grilling them is another top notch way to cook fish...Putting the slits in them to help the seasoning get into them is very smart...Asparagus on the grill...My mother in law does that and WOW, yum yum...Go Cavs...

Hi Anne!! The guts come right out every time! Since Ms. Lulu doesn't like to see her food looking back at her, this was the idea technique! Someone else asked the same question. But I don't know the answer. I've only seen this method done with bluegill. I bet it would work with bass because they are in the sunfish family too, and the anatomies are remarkably similar inside. I'll try it sometime to see! Yes, Ms. Lulu and I are making huge strides! She only disappointed me a little this time! LOL! Thanks so much for your kindness my friend!

Hi John, tocayo! When you look at who uses RUclips, you see mostly young people. When you think about who likes to go fishing the most, you see mostly young people (most often boys). Boys want to fish with their grandpas! LOL! So it's not so much for the food, but the fishing that they join. Así es como lo hago! You're so right! The grill is too brand new! The last few months I've been diligently learning how to turn it ON and OFF! LOL! Time now to get grilling! It's hard to grill the little fishies that I catch though. But it's a challenge! It can be done! The taste of whole grilled fish is unbeatable! Delish! It's worth the trouble to pick around the bones. Yes our team won!!! I've been waiting for something good to happen here since the last time a team won, 52 years ago!! It was our turn, finally! Thanks loads and loads for the kindness amigo! All the best to you and yours down there at the hacienda!

    • @Juanelo1946

Hi Jim!! If I catch enough small fish to make it worthwhile, the fish scaler does a great job. It saves me time AND a big mess. Someone in an earlier video (Laurice) suggested that my tank was low on propane. She was right, it was a bit low. I swapped it out with a new tank and it works great now, 600°! You were probably rooting for Golden Gate, but I appreciate your congrats. It had been 52 years since we've won anything over here! It was just our time! LOL! Thanks for the kind comment my friend!
