  • Hollywood's Toughest Man, Lee Marvin, turned down the role of Quint in Steven Spielberg's Jaws that eventually went to Robert Shaw. He also missed out on the casting of Pike in The Wild Bunch so he could star in a western musical. In his prime, he was a true selective cinematic giant.
He found success with a number one single in 1970 that lasted three weeks in the UK and two weeks in Ireland. "Wand'rin' Star" surpassed The Beatles "Let It Be" and was sung by Marvin even though he wasn't a natural singer and it was taken straight from the musical Paint Your Wagon.
A natural rabble-rouser, Marvin was expelled from school, joined the Marines, fought in World War Two, was shot by machine gun fire and a sniper, but was discharged from the army as a private due to continuous misbehaviour and chronic insubordination. He would go on to become one of Hollywood's greatest and most iconic actors.
