Steve Saint was not quite five years old when his father, Nate Saint, and four other men were speared to death in 1956 by members of the Aucas, now known as the Waodani. The five missionaries and their families had gone to live in the jungles of Ecuador in hopes of bringing the Gospel to the primitive and savage people living there. After the men were killed, Steve's Aunt Rachel and Elisabeth Elliot, wife of one of the martyrs, bravely decided to carry on their work, as they felt the need to continue the mission their loved ones had died for: to bring the light of the Gospel to the Waodani. The two women lived among the tribe, teaching them how to read and translating the Scriptures for them. As a result, some of the Waodani committed their lives to serving God. Steve grew up among the Waodani, dividing his time between school in the U.S. and the jungle village. Upon the death of his Aunt Rachel and at the Waodani's request, Steve brought his wife and children. His experience there gave him the vision to establish I-TEC (Indigenous People's Technology & Education Center - www.itecusa.org) which helps bring modern technology to hidden groups around the world and assists them in being self-supportive and independent. This inspiring and entertaining testimony, combined with photographs and rare film footage, is both moving and challenging. It is a captivating true story of forgiveness, Christian love and missionary devotion to God's call.

Just finished reading Through Gates of Splendour. Love hearing Steve’s explanation why those men did what they did… what a testimony to his parent’s and how he was raised, without resentment or fear, and full of compassion for these people and their need for Jesus.

This is a miraculous story, which I heard about these missionaries as a teenager from my Mum in Sri Lanka, over 50 yrs., ago. Now I live in the UK n watching this video.

I was born in Colombia in the 60s and moved to the States in the 70s. I had never heard of these missionaries until about five years ago. I have since immersed myself in their story. These five men (who were murdered by the Auca indinians) were men of deep conviction in sharing the message of Jesus to these people. Their wives n other members have augmented to their legacy. The faith has remained strong until this day. Steve Saint is proof of it. He has yielded himself to goodness n righteousness in the service of our great Elohim. I was 15 and a waitress at a Summer camp for Christian adults. We had the same table all week. I was hoping for a $ tip at the end instead they gave me the book "Through Gates of Splendor." My life was about to change!!! That and later "Shadow of The Almighty" showed me a depth and commitment to YHVH that was to sustain me through real fire, mission work and the wild and crazy 60's, Civil right work and Host of exciting adventures with Yeshua!!! Blessings!

Where to begin to tell what I think, know, and feel regarding Elisabeth Elliott?
As a beleaguered young Mom (of three at the time, eventually Mom of four : ) I responded to Ms. Elliott's radio program "Gateway to Joy". I wrote a note to her - much to my surprise, she (herself !) not only replied, but...
She offered to come and VISIT me - ME, in my (quite) humble dwelling in 'public housing'. She signed one of her books which I had... it's still, over 30 years later, somewhat surreal to me.
So gracious. So kind. I am thankful for the reminder that I will one day see Elisabeth in our Savior's awesome Kingdom, forever and eternally.

I think they had their own concept of GOD till it was taught or made clear to them through the teaching of the Word. The narrator was incorrect on that point.

I think taking children & young women there as mothers is wrong. Young college kids going over 4....2 years. Is a great thing. But children no. I see teaching kids how to live off the land. Is great. I think what these men did with their families...wasa brave thing.
Missionary children are fortunate not to grow up in the materialistic, and superficial culture of the United States.

My question is, if they've never heard the Gospel how can they be held responsible for it? It doesn't seem like a loving and fair God who would condemn someone to eternal hell fire for something they knew nothing about.
The Lord is a Good, Loving and Faithful God, He is always searching for people who are willing and these 5 guys are willing to serve the Lord, it is their willing heart that brought them there. God ways and thoughts are higher than our thoughts and even though those 5 courageous men didn't go there for a mission, I still believe that God has His own way, God will make sure that all the people in the world will hear the Gospel and will give them a chance if they will accept the gift of salvation or not. May the peace of the Lord Jesus, our Prince of Peace be with you.
I believe God is a fair judge and many people have the love of our lord without the knowledge of him,he will know and bring these souls to him.k regards

And how many are going to live for eternity with God? You certainly didn’t watch the movie. The natives did accept Christ and are living amazing lives with the missionaries.
