  • Dr. David Livingstone took the Gospel to Africa in word and deed. As a medical doctor he treated the sick, earning him the necessary trust and respect to teach the love of Christ which many Africans freely embraced. Then Livingstone turned his attention to exploration, seeing this work as much a spiritual calling as traditional missionary work. Facing danger and sickness he forged routes deep into the African interior sparking the imagination of many who would follow.
In the early part of the nineteenth century, Africa was called the dark continent. One man’s passion for Christ would change that view. Dr. Facing danger and sickness he forged routes deep into the African interior, sparking the imagination of many who would follow. Hailed as one of the greatest European explorers of all time, Livingstone’s commitment and eventual martyrdom helped bring an end to the slave trade and opened a continent to the Gospel. Discover the story of David Livingstone and see how faith and sacrifice can change the world.
    Director: Gary Wilkinson
Starring: Joan Sutherland, Prof. John M. MacKenzie, Dr. Jonathan Engleby

To see how much the native people loved him is SO heart-rending. Especially them trekking 1,500 miles, carrying his body to the coast so it could go by ship to England - this brings tears to my eyes. So much like the love the Native Americans had for 1750's missionary David Brainerd. Those native American tribes cried when David left them because he had gotten sick (and would die shortly) with tuberculosis.

I think mention should be made of the lack of financial and social support for Livingston’s wife, after she returned to Scotland, the London Missionary Society , virtually ignored her impoverished conditions. Eventually good friends of Livingston did that.
Likewise Chuma & Susu with a few others who carried Livingston’s body to the coast , where turned away with minimal recognition or monetary help. Only much later was that put right and the pair were brought to the UK.
His daughter Agnes went out to Nyasaland , as a celebration of her father’s work and met two or three, elderly slaves who had been freed by him, as children and one remarked ‘ he had blue eyes and we knew he loved us’. Livingston has them fed for several days, then escorted back to their villages .
God Bless this good man and his wife Mary. 🇲🇼🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

And he had brass balls considering the brutality and inhospitable nature of the land he explored. (I'd never want to meet "The Penis Cutting Tribe") I hope his influence on the continent was ultimately positive.

Dr David Livingstone was a European or "Whiteman" that could be truly described as a "Friend of Africa"! Unfortunately, he has not been given the place he deserves. In their reaction to the injustices of colonialism, African nationalists forgot to mention that one European stood out as a friend of Africa. African historians are yet to give David Livingstone his rightful place.

Livingstone was a good man with a love for the African.
Slavery was a burden on Livingstone. He was a good man which the Africans could see.
Slavery then was like abortion today.
Could we have Spirit filled people who will challenge abortion in the same way as Livingstone challenged slavery ?
    The need is urgent.
WHO claims more than 50,000,000 babies are killed worldwide each year.
Who will shout for the unborn baby ?
See : Rachel’s Vineyard, a healing weekend of Jesus Christ’s forgiveness for those harmed by abortion.

It's from a diary of one of the first Christian missionaries in the 17th century to go to the Islands in the South Pacific region, because he was certain that Jesus wanted him to risk his material life, and the lives of his wife and children, in order to save the souls of the "dirty savages" ... his words, not mine. According to his diary, many of those Christian missionaries were killed, and their flesh eaten by the natives. You can believe that Jesus was watching from the spirit realm, and was proud that those missionaries were going to have their souls rewarded in heaven for living up to Jesus' expectations ... but I will not. I left all religious teaching behind at age 70, and now believe that I am whole, just as I am, and that the universe always existed, no creator involved
