Giving them a haircut helps strengthen them Ali, it also helps the ones that are not growing upright to ( growing crooked ) actually grow upright, Mine were pretty much cut in half, so about 3" off or so. They are all looking good Ali 🥰
Hi Ali 👋 That's an interesting thing to do with onions. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they grow after cutting the tops off. Could be the next bid thing with onion growing. Onion haircuts 😂 Have a great week ❤
I have been informed by the onion kings 🤣 it makes them stronger, didn’t work so well for Samson 🤦♀️ but hey I did half and half, what can I say I’m a gambler 👍
I trim my onion seedlings. I typically trim to about 2.5 - 3". I do it a couple times while they are inside. I find it really helps growth and definitely makes them more manageable. 🥰🥰🥰
Awesome I’m going to do mine regularly while they are in the house then Robin 👍. It’s super cold here today so not a lot outside work but I may do some brassica sees 🤷♀️
This is so interesting! I don't start my onions till January usually (Scotland), but I've never done the haircut thing so really curious to see how yours turn out!
Normally it’s Boxing Day for most people but Pete wanted to have something to do 😂😂 so he dragged us all along with him. Apparently trimming makes them concentrate on roots and that’s a good thing. We will find out I guess 👍
Sowed the Kelsae and Ailsa Craig yesterday with some other big onions. Looking at your comments did you not sow Ailsae as well from Fosters seeds? Let me know. At the moment they don't have heat. Having snow tonight supposedly. Heating is on now. Take care x
Yes Mark @Ganggang and Peanut sent me some so I did 3 types. Then all 3 w heat and light and again all 3 without any. 2c here and winds and rain storms due tomorrow 🤦🏼♀️
Hey Ali, I think by cutting the tops off makes them grow stronger and they are not wasting energy on the limpshoot, it should grow straight up and be thicker. But then what do I know...😂🤣😂🤣🐄🐄🐄
@myrustygarden we don't get snow here Ali.. The last time we had snow was 5/6 years ago... one day of snow, it was on the ground for 3 days.. the time before that, we'll I just can't remember...it's the sea air and it's mainly too warm here...😊🐄🐄🐄
To apparently make them stronger by being short leaves it has them concentrate on root structure and that is supposed to make stronger tops 🤷♀️. Or it’s just fun 🤣🤣
Great experiment and I look forward to following along with updates 🙂
Looking forward to those onions❤
Me too! They are going to be huge 🤞🤞🤞
Trimming is a good idea, dont let them droop and get tangled up like i did at the start of the year 😂.😁👍👌 You did cut pretty low though 😮
Thanks for the tips! I made sure I picked off the hair clippings now 🤣
that reminds me. i need a hair cut. lol....................brian

Thank you! You too keep warm 🥶 we are 2c today 😢
Ooo, I missed this one, good start Ali 🙂🙂🍁🍁
No worries zig I always have to go through my “list” of videos I watch to make sure I get them all as I don’t actually get notified 🤦♀️

Hi Ali, nice haircut! I trim my leeks about the same stage and I feel it makes them stronger and stand up straight.

Good to now Sandra that’s my hope 💪💪🤞🤞
Nice tip to cut them - I will definitely try that out♦
I have heard from the onion guys it makes them stronger 💪💪 so I’m willing to try half of them Anne 🤣 but only half

Hi Ali I wish you luck it's something I've never done so be interesting for us how it goes as won't be starting ours for few weeks yet ,
I said to Rob the other day it’s not the start of the race it’s the end so doing at normal Boxing Day is good too. A tried a true start time 🥰
