Sorry I was a bit rushed in this one, next Friday will be a more chilled affair, just having chat about all things onions. Have a great weekend everyone. 🧅👍
Woo hoo let the games begin 🎉. I am just going to buy some seed compost. I’ll video from start to finish in set up 👍. Have a fab weekend Pete, Ali 🥶🥶🇨🇦 #gogc2425 🧅🧅🧅
If you want to join in the challenge Nick they have to be Ailsae seeds from Fosters seeds. I’ve got some spare if you would like some, just email me your address and I’ll send you some. My email is in my channel description. @nickthegardener.
The biggest onion I ever grew was growing next to the bird bath, id tip the dirty water from the bath onto this onion poop and everything, it was twice as big as the others.👍👌😁
Started my seeds a few days ago. Shared some with my neighbour Joe, who wants to join in both with and without lights. He has a few years experience growing veg at 91yrs. Jane
Great video, love how straight forward you are, and how honest you are about what you know and what you don't. Looking forward to sowing mine, but I won't be starting till New Year because the growstation goes in the only corner that the Christmas tree will fit, and the tree goes up 1st December and comes down 2nd January every year in our house! P.S. Those wide eyed pumpkins looking like they just found out you're gonna carve them for Halloween had me creased! 🤣😂🤣
Thank you Kez, I’m just a keen to learn and gain knowledge and I thought this challenge would be a great opportunity to do both and have some fun along the way. The last 4 pumpkins fate is indeed sealed and I think they know it. 🎃🪓
Great demonstration Pete,I guess it’s game on now 😂😂 I’m off to buy some vermiculite today ready to sow some seeds, I’m looking forward to the challenge 😂I will probably sow in mid November and again at Christmas 👍👍
I’m up for the challenge. I just started a Winter garden indoors in a deck self watering container for the Winter garden challenge. It’s going very well thus far. 😊
hello pete i was kindly sent some seed's from Ali for this challenge 👍 im doing my seeds out in the polly tunnel so its going to be around feb to April time
That’s really kind of her and thank you for joining us in the challenge, looking forward to seeing how you get on, the end date for the weighing is the end of September, so plenty of time, good luck with them. 🧅👍
boxing day IS the traditional day to sow onions, pete. i will also be sowing some onions on that day. no heat or glowlights. i sowed 10 seeds. 7 germinated.................brian
I’m afraid I’m probably not the best person to answer that, as I’m just a keen amateur. I did however grow normal red and brown onions last year with grow lights and harvested them in July. Hope that is of some help, Take care, Pete.

Will finish the grow tent tomorrow, then hopefully i can get down the plot sow 2 trays of Ailsae for the #gogc2425 one set with lights, the other without which will just be staying down the allotment in the greenhouse, ( but i will also be sowing some Ailsae on 3rd Jan ) Also tomorrow i will sow some Kelsae which i got from Ali, Sow some Ailsa Craig and also Sow some John Soulsby seeds, then take them home and put them in the grow tent with the grow lights on them. @@Jimmy.Plot.41.b you’re going to have onions coming out your ears sowing that lot 😂🧅👍 I’d never even thought about sowing at this time of year without grow lights, so that will be interesting to see how they get on.
@@Petetrenouth I sowed some on boxing day last year for a grow along and also sowed more on 3rd january of january this year mate, the ones sown in December grew to 3lb 12oz, and the ones sown in January reached the same weigh 3lb 12 oz, they were just standard Ailsa Craig onion seeds, not giants, so just under 4lb is a good sized onion.
