    🌲In this video, I share the Black Hills Spruce and its growing popularity in landscaping and what tree it is replacing. I also share my concerns about landscaping and landscaping practices today and how they are not adequate.🌲

    The Black Hills Spruce only matures to 35 feet tall by 15'-20' wide after a few decades. Full sun. Very drought tolerant. Well draining soils are required. It tolerates most soil types, including poor clays. It is not particular with soil pH. It is hardy in USDA Zones 2-7 (8a). It will maintain a dense/compact habit through old age. Tolerant of harsh urban soils and climates. Comparable care and growing conditions to a Norway Spruce (Picea abies).

    Yes, I know I mispronounced "Rhizosphaera" 😆

    🌲NOTE: Please do further research on plants before buying and planting them. Different plants require different growing conditions, such as light, water, cold hardiness, soil type, protection, and pH level🌲

    Can a Norway Spruce be kept to a manageable size through pruning? I'm sold on the Black Hills Spruce but not sure about planting a Norway. Also, great video. Love to see someone speak passionately about a topic.

    I agree with you. People become experts over night in a lot of trades. People seem to buy into because somebody came from south of the border they become an expert in these fields.

      Fat Albert and Hoopsii are known to have moderate resistance to Rhizosphaera disease. I have seen Fat Albert's die from Rhizosphaera, but they were old specimens.

    For a wet spot that floods, plant a Black Spruce, they are just about the only spruce that will take that and actually thrive in it.

      Indeed, but they can be hard for most. They like cold climates up North. They tend to die from disease from high humidity/heat. I've seen plenty landscaped and they don't like Indinana high heat snd clay soils

      @@NatureMan1 We don’t have the highest heat, our average high in July is only 81 degrees but we get our fair share of heat waves and black spruce seem to do well here

      Yes, it is. Extremely fast growing. Gets massive. 👌🌲

    Will this be more narrow in width at maturity than a traditional white spruce?

    • @NatureMan1
      @NatureMan1  4 месяца назад

      No, not more narrow. It will be shorter and retain a dense growth habit instead of thinning out and getting bigger like the White Spruce does.

    • @NatureMan1
      @NatureMan1  4 месяца назад

      It will still attain a width of 15'-20' by a height of 30'

    Will it do well in zone 8 North Carolina???

      Probably a bit too warm for your region. You could try one, make sure you have excellent drainage
