    I did it, came here middle of the summer! ugh with 500 dollars and a prayer, me and my fiance was homeless in California.. definitely could not afford the rent in Los Angeles.. we got a U-Haul.. called up an ghetto apartment in Vegas.... no credit check or deposit from Craigslist.. and just went for it. gave the guy 450$ all of our money.. we didn't even turn on the gas.. so no cooking, we had no car had to learn the buses quickly and had to suffer it with that heat.. well with prayer.. and determination we both got jobs at Walmart that month we moved away from nasty Fremont.. got a car ... fast forward we have been here 3 years. we did it. I went back to school for my nursing and he got into security. both making good money.. mural to my story is.. have faith.. never stop grinding! hit the pavement and go!

      As a Las Vegas native (born & raised here in Las Vegas, 3rd generation) the valley was better then than it is NOW.
      Real Nevadans (only 14% of us are actually from the Silver State) absolutely hate the idea of "expansion".
      Nevadans miss their small sleepy cowboy town that started going down hill in the late 80s.
      We simply despise these new waves of people invading this town; REAL Nevadans can't stand any of you.
      If we could put a "growth limit" on Las Vegas (like Boulder City which is also Clark County) we could easily fight off crappy transplants, our increasing crime rate, liberalism, Section 8 housing expansion, crowded neighborhoods & even the incoming ghetto Raiders. We're just a valley, we do not have room for the thousands of people who keep invading here! Stop making these videos, you're encouraging more (liberal) broke ass transplants to move here!🚫💯

    July 2018, one way United ticket to Las Vegas (2 hour flight) costs about $100 (including 1 checked bag fee) from Denver Colorado.
    Renting a car one-way from Denver costs twice as much and takes many long hours to drive to Las Vegas. Expect total cost without motel stops about $300.
    There are furnished 1-bed apartments in the Las Vegas area priced from $700 to $1100 per month in decent properties; some units are furnished for slightly higher rent.
    You can book your apartment online before your departure to be ready when you arrive.
    Uber and Lyft are everywhere in Las Vegas, so you don't need a car at the start.
    Just book your apartment, fly in, ride Uber (under $30) to your new residence, and start your new life in Las Vegas.
    After 30 days, you can swap your out-of-state driver license or state ID card with a Nevada card;
    you need 2 documents to prove your 30-days residency (use a Nevada bank statement and your lease agreement), plus your social security card and driver license (or state ID card).
    If you are self-employed, have a decent online business, or pre-arrange a job before your arrival, then you're all set.
    *Vegas, baby!*

    Because of the stadium being built and all the new construction jobs, rent is going up so fast now it's not worth living in vegas with the things you have to put up with, unless your making really good money. When rent was 800 for a nice apartment in henderson, it was ok, but now that apartment is going for 1100 or 1200, and most jobs are not paying more in Vegas, that's the biggest problem now.

    I'm so glad you posted this Jacob. Moving to Vegas with no decent money saved or job is very unwise. Also it's advisable to have marketable skills or multiple certifications or licensures under your belt. Things you can do on the side as a means to make money during the lean times. That's what I love about barbers and hair stylist. They can go anywhere and make a quick buck. People will always pay to keep themselves looking sharp. Plus they have to ability to pretty much name their own price for their services, as long as they are really good at what they do.

      Yep. Having a trade skill like that will help you put food on the table. I don't advise people to move here blind, but it certainly happens. Some people are willing to do what is necessary to make it and others care more about comfort

    I'm moving to Las Vegas NV and I've landed a job as an electrician and my girlfriend is transferring to a Vegas store. But the real problem is finding a place to rent. I've lived in Park City Utah for the last fifteen years and lived in Los Angeles before that and never had such a difficult time renting. These property managers request that you provide: bank statement, pay stub, tax return and sometimes an employment letter with salary and starting date. They also mentioned something about being first time residents/residents under one year as a reason for more of a security deposit. My starting date is determined by when I can move in. LOL It's really frustrating. My question is this- Is housing difficult to get or do you think we just found a rental agency that's just asking too much? Thank you for all the helpful videos!

    • @JacobslifeinVegas
      @JacobslifeinVegas  7 лет назад +1

      +michael taylor Mine wasn't that difficult. I already had a job lined up with a starting date. I paid the deposit and the first month's rent before I actually moved in. I can see why some places would require much more simply because of the fact that people come and go so frequently in Vegas

      Juan Aviles Jr. You got it Juan! I do what I can to help people make a transition out here, but at some point everyone has to bite the bullet and just do it. There is nothing wrong with having some concern or even fear of moving out here. I had some myself because you're making a big transition in life, and going into unfamiliar territory. I've just noticed that some people come to me essentially asking me to guarantee that moving to Las Vegas is a good thing for them to do, which is something I'm not able to do because everyone is different.

    Just subscribed, and had a quick question Jacob... you say you had a job lined up in advanced, so how’d you do it? One thing I’m bumping into is whenever I get a call saying a job-place is interested in hiring me, they want me to come in for an interview (which I can’t until after I move). I’d move first, but for renting an apartment most places seem to require a paystub as a proof of income to qualify... so in other words:
    You have to work first in order to move, but you have to move first in order to work. My girl and I are a bit stuck lol we like planning and are financially responsible. Already got our own vehicles but still live in Minnesota. Any advice?
    Are we better off taking a trip to vegas to get a job lined up first? Do we begin working before we even come back to MN to begin moving?

    Hi Jacob! I first moved to Vegas around 10 years ago when everyone made more money and things were still golden, I then moved back to the UK in 2010 to finish my degree. Fast forward, I am in serious debt and so I moved back here 4 months ago and am still shocked and jaded by the changes in this city but because I still look the same and kept my dance skills, I got a job at Piranha gogo dancing but it is supplementary and not constant enough so was struggling and applying to jobs nearly every day since last August and then FINALLY, I just got hired last week as a cocktail server at the Golden Tiki and its slow season so I am really grateful and happy for that! Thanks so much for your videos, they gave me hope and I am now in a better place!

    Great video! People also have to realize about the cost of living and pay rate differential. Depending upon where you're coming from it could be more or less. I know a lot of people that moved to Vegas and within a couple of years moved back because they weren't satisfied with the pay rate. Some move to Vegas to reduce the percentage of their cost of living. It is always very wise to get a job first and or have money saved up. It these days you should at least have 2 years of rent, utilities and food saved up ahead of time before you move somewhere without a job. Also applying at employment temp agencies can help tremendously too.

      JacobslifeinVegas The way the "government" is working on making the laws work for Uber and Lyft it might not be viable for operation till after Sept 1st, but then again who knows. Literally i'm starting to get more and more seniors taking the service here in Boston and if that generation is using it more than it's going to catch on like wildfire. So the government better get their ass in gear and start working because this on demand economy isn't going to go anywhere but up, and I mean globally.

    • @JacobslifeinVegas
      @JacobslifeinVegas  9 лет назад

      I agree. That's why I think it's just a matter of time before Nevada allows Uber and Lyft. Not because the state wants to, but because the people want it. The younger generation is growing up with this sharing economy. This economy is normal to them, and they're not going to want to give it up when they are adults. Technology moves a lot faster than the government does, but I don't know if any amount of lobbying/protesting can stop some of the changes coming in our economy

      +barry graham It is. Vegas is a very transient city, and Nevada is by far the most transient state in America. I've watched a dozen of your videos now and love them. Thank you for all the information. I lived in California most of my life but tried Austin, Tx for the last couple of years. I like it here but it's getting too expensive. Just got laid off and have 6 months of Unemployment coming in so I am making the jump to Vegas. Of coarse, I will hit the ground running and looking for a job. I'm not lazy and have a career in HR. It's just nice to know my rent in a small, cheap furnished studio will be paid along with the food I need until I land my first job. What do you think of Siegel Studios to start? Can you recommend any clean and quite (no drugs or prostitution) weekly or monthly studios that would be good to hold me over a few months until I land a job and get a nice apartment? Thanks again for the informative videos. If I ever meet you, I'll buy you lunch to thank you for the info!

    It seems most apartment complexes require verifiable income and/or a cosigner to move in. I don't understand how *anyone* can ever move to a new state without these two things; which I don't have.
    Even if I offer to pay for a 6-month lease with a 6-month advance payment these places won't accept me without verifiable income or a cosigner. Starting to think it is *impossible* to move.

      Mostly likely moving mid feb. Selling my car now. Will by a motorcycle or scooter when I get there. Will put up adds for roommates to attack the housing situation with another person. Will most likely seek a temporary room for rent opportunity. I’m willing to do what it takes to just get there and job hunt. Not too hung up on the housing.
      Hope you’re doing what makes you happy. You can do it. Make that move!

      Brandun Clay Sounds pretty reasonable to me. Especially if you're working on the strip. A lot of the jobs in the hotels and casinos pay $14+/hour, and in some jobs you can get tips. If you are working on the strip, then you can certainly survive without a car in Vegas, since you'll be living so close. That would help reduce your cost of living certainly.

    I want to work and live there. I have about 3000 a month income but I am about 1200-1500 a month short each month to make sure I have bills made and live there to make sure I dont hurt my credit and can live in Vegas. I came in Sept and fell in love with the city not the gambling. I dont even smoke or drink I just love the city and the people and culture. The scenery is beautiful there.
    I need about 1200-1500 a month to guarantee I make it what can you recommend Jacob. I can work 30 hours or 40 as long as I know I have that extra 1500 to make it each month. That takes in all bills and living there.

    the one thing about your video first of all I think you're a great guy I've watched quite a few of your videos you didn't mention all the work cards that people have to have to even just work in a fast food place. the weekly rentals they'll cost you $1,200 a month and that's for the ones that aren't all that nice. yes you can get out here and you can grind but overall Vegas is a pretty expensive place. I have lived here since 1969 and I personally am on my way out I will be moving to Missouri in the beginning of June. the city has grown it has become too large and way too much crime. but I wish the best for everyone who does want to come out here and live the Vegas dream for me no longer do I wish to have the Vegas dream.

    I originally moved to Vegas in 2012, i had to move back to LA bc my first child was born and I didnt want to worj for Clark County School Dist. at the time. Many sales jobs are available and helped me in between career choices. I will be moving back this Sept. for the start of Uber and I will eventually Teach in Clark County. Im certain they still need about 1000 new full-time teachers. K-6 especially.

      It's about your will. Make motivational messages for yourself and hang them by your front door to remind yourself that it's important to you.
      Spend no money except on food and do the Ramen Route. Ramen, with frozen vegetable (your choice), and leftover meat thrown in. I enjoy frozen peas and chopped pork roast meat with ramen. (Use a handful of meat, just 3 ounces is all you want.) Super cheap.
      Clean up your credit and don't act like a vagrant. Expect problems and overestimate your costs so you won't get blindsided by unexpected expenses.
      Leave the girls (or boys) alone you're not a big prize broke, so you'll only be attracting people worse off than you, anyway.

    I know this is an old video, I'm trying to find web development work out there before I move. My original plan was to just find a place with around 4k cash but so far places in Texas, Utah, and Colorado have rent that's 1k+ for a one bedroom one bath. I live in Kingman, AZ it's about a couple hours drive but I've found that most jobs only hire locals.
    My plan B was to just move, find a place and take what I can until the job I want lines up. Not sure how large the tech sector is in Vegas, but as long as casinos and other businesses need Front End Developers and Graphic Designers I shouldn't have a problem.
    Also, is the crime is better or worse than Phoenix?

    Jacob, enjoyed your post. I've made the decision to move to Vegas about a year ago. I'm working on employment aspect however, sometimes I get the feeling that they look at my address and believe i'm not serious about the move. I work in the Human Service field so I believe I can find employment if I just pack up and move with about 20K saved, but I prefer to have a job lined up before hand. Any advice regarding the address aspect of my comment? Thanks again and keep up the good work.

      No I have not however; I plan to spend a few days there in July. Most of the prospect only accept online applications.

    • @JacobslifeinVegas
      @JacobslifeinVegas  7 лет назад +1

      Based on my experience, talking to people in real life makes a HUGE difference. Even before I went to apply for a job online inside one of the casinos, I made sure to talk to the manager beforehand. After a few minutes of talking, he gave me his number and said he would keep an eye out for my name when he receives the application.
      I got hired for a job before I had even moved here because I came in person, and let them know I was moving here in a few weeks. When they meet you in person, they know you are far more serious than all of the other out of state people that come across their way because the majority of them flake and never show up. Meeting people in person will greatly distinguish you from the others. Do everything you can to prepare yourself for you visit in July by setting up interviews, and getting in contact with places you have already applied. Even if they are not doing an official interview, I would go in just to show your face and introduce yourself to a manager.

      moved to Vegas during the height of their recession, the summer of 09. had nothing saved, had no job lined up, had just enough for gas and top ramen. before moving out there, i got linked up with a room to rent thru a friend of a friend. paid rent and hit the ground running - had a job by the end of the week. by the next month I was in a shabby week to week apartment but I never stopped the forward progression. within 3 or 4 months I was living in a 2 bdrm condo in Boca Park. it can be done painlessly with persistence. goodluck.

    New to this channel, is it inappropriate to ask you Jacob what is your main source of income? Don’t want to know how much or anything of that nature just what it is that you do that brings you money

    The income I talk about to steady and investment and semi retirement from programmer job in past. Still I am serious when I say 1500 or so short to make bills and live there. Again I would work 30 hours a week as long as I was guaranteed that 1500 a month.

    What problems do you see with my situation ? If I could HIT the ground from day one with a job I would have it made there. I have to have that job or extra income.
