Thanks for another great video and analysis. This is excellent. How we can get tunnel vision and miss the obvious clues!
IMO- It looks like they pulled the line off a quint- put it In service with the elevated master stream working the main body in the garage! Hand line(s) to protect the exposure. Remember, big fire, requires big water, big time; because fire generally doubles every 30 seconds.
Where was the IC? I don’t see anyone in command where they could watch the fire and read the smoke. They could have prioritized saving the house over trying to extinguish the bonfire, right.
I sound harsh, but as firefighters, we must strive to do better. We are the only fire department that our community has.

Absolutely terrible positioning of the line. They should've put the line right in front of the right side of the open garage door. Manpower isn't the problem, they could've put the hose in a loop and the nozzle man could've hit the house for ten seconds along the eave, then put water on the garage to eliminate the radiated heat. That would've avoided the power line, and saved the house.

No doubt there are many different tactics that can be employed at any fire. Here at The Art of Reading Smoke we try to focus on what WE can learn. What WE would do. Given the same situation. Unless we are at any given fire we don't really know. Thanks for being part of the Reading Smoke nation.

I can't disagree with the idea that there are many ways to learn and that's what I've built my fire teaching career around. My opinion is that learning would involve more self-directed commentary. Using the words "I would" rather than "they should have". One is positive and forward looking. The other is negative and backward looking. Learning takes place in the positive mindset by leaps and bounds more than the negative. And I truly appreciate your participation in the Reading Smoke nation!!
