Honda needs to send you a big check. You do more to explain & show how the DCT actually works than Honda has. Thank you. Now for the first time ever I’m actually considering a DCT.
I usually stay in auto mode, and I always downshift with the paddle for engine braking. I use manual mode in heavy traffic or in the twisties for more control. Never knew about forcing a downshift with throttle and brake - will have to try that next time out. The DCT is awesome.
G, as you know, I love your videos! I loved the way you got around the car in front of you as you entered the highway! I know the feeling and the power! The DCT is a great machine but I have to inform you a bit about the purpose of the dual clutch. The purpose is not so much for being able to shift manually and shift automatically but it’s about how the shifts occurs. The dual clutch allows for a smoother transition between the gears and that’s why you hear the shifts but don’t necessarily feel them. I know this for my older generation Smart car had a single clutch transmission and was “jerky” between shifts. The latest generation I owned (2017) prior to my getting an electric one had a dual clutch transmission that got rid of the jerky changes in gears. I do sometimes downshift my bike with the brakes and know how convenient that is. As one of you other viewers commented, I too used to ride a Suzuki Burgman 650 (I owned 2 different ones) and it was great but the Goldwing is different and much more refined. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks and to think Honda asking with the 6 AXIS IMU is steadily improving the DCT’s function. I’m picking up a 2021 Africa Twin DCT Adventure Sports with the Electronic Suspension and The DCT in 3 separate Sport modes along with 4 present and 2 additional configurable User modes offers countless programming possibilities. Sure is great to be a motorcyclist these days. Thanks again for the clarification. 👍🏾
@@GBeWinginIt Wow! You’re goiNAF back to another adventure bike?! I didn’t see that coming! Speaking of which, on Saturday as I was driving back from Tampa I seen a group of adventure bikes past by me. It was not unusual to see an adventure bike in a riding group. What was unusual was that out of the group of about nine to ten bikes, all of them were adventure bikes, including BMWs and the like. I ran into some of the group later at a truck stop and found out they were heading to Colorado. I was still in Florida at the time and they were headed all the way to Colorado. What a ride!! Enjoy the new bike when it arrives! I’m not surprised your getting a technologically advanced one.
@@dr.freddyb.wilson4541 it’s the rider triangle and open riding position that has me returning to my 4th adventure bike in the past 21 years. My documented iron butt Ride was on an adventure bike with no creature comfort’s. The 1200X had no cruise control, heated grips, and electronic Nada! But was one of the most comfortable all day riding motorcycles I’ve owned an at 54 years of age in 2018 I jumped on it and Ride from NYC to Fl in under 16.5 hours and had dinner with my daughters and grandchildren the same day. Hi ,I have had both throttle only and elec, gear shift on my Bergman 650 executive for three years! yes it's great, but purest bikers will say a bike is about using organic gear and clutch changes that is what a motorbike is all about you controlling the bike not the bike controlling you? I appreciate what a great bike the DCT is, I test drove one found it a little intimidating weight and size wise! and at £27,000 on a good day a real pocket stretcher! Great Video , walk the walk you certainly talk the talk, have a great Day!!!
Not with practice. I throw it in rain or Econ mode to soften the throttle response and use the rear brake. Often times that’s not necessary because the bike is so well balanced. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Just saw your video...My favorite is Manual-tour..I love to do my own shifting...every now and then I will use auto but I always end up going right back to Manual shifting its always something about revving up and shifting the great part is I can shift down or just let the motorcycle do its thing...there is nothing not to like about the beautiful machine..
In my 3 years of use often switching f weekly back and forth from my manual motorcycle I find the DCT more engaging. It’s anything but an automatic only motorcycle. Honda’s big miss maybe!?! Thanks for watching and commenting.

I shift mostly manual, coming from FJR auto clutch is what I am used to. Will Never go back to manual clutch lever. once I learned to shit the auto there is no going back
Surely you are not actually changing gear by turning the throttle off or braking, you are slowing the bike down and the auto mode is then selecting the appropriate gear for your speed? Why would you want to slow down when there’s no requirement to slow down? It’s also not helping your fuel efficiency and you’re wearing the brakes unnecessarily. There’s just two ways to use the DCT, in manual mode using the paddles and auto mode with the benefit of being able to use the ‘manual mode’ when necessary, travelling downhill for example. There are not numerous ways to change gear.
@@GBeWinginIt Your comments are misleading. You DO NOT change gear by chopping the throttle (as you put it) or by braking. If you close the throttle or brake then you obviously slow down and the DCT automatically changes down the gears to match the speed you ARE NOT changing gears by using the brakes or throttle! 😏
@@fishingotheradventuresonke7996 What he said is, in effect, true. -To downshift you can close the throttle and/or press the brake pedal.
