been using vial to configure a svalboard. This video really came in handy, as the UI is a bit hard to grok as a newbie. Thank you for uploading!

Great video. i wish it had been around when I was configuring my corne a year ago. I had to pretty much work out all of these quirks myself.
I avoided HRM, and instead enabled the QMK auto shift on hold feature. I found it was way faster than fumbling with my index finger for shift, and I don't use alt or ctrl often enough to have them on the home row either.
I'm very combo heavy (all 32 of my available are used) for easy symbol and bracket usage, and find that because i type around 50wpm and am not inclined to go faster i don't really ever accidentally trigger any.

Great video, congratulations! Would it be possible for you to share the HEX file to flash the keyboard?

I am trying to migrate from keyd and Kanata and I was surprised to see how poorly the current home row modifiers perform in QMK/VIAL in comparison. I was following a PR in the QMK repo that introduces the concept of Chordal Holds which looks good, but I can't flash my VIAL device so I've been unable to test it.

There are a bunch of (great) typing features that are only available to folks willing to go down the rabbit hole of writing the custom code themselves. I think it's because, in the end, VIAL is a UI and these are inherently limited in terms of flexibility.

@@calmcode-io True, but it shouldn't be like that. After all, VIAL already let's you configure the home row modifiers. It's the underlying logic that is lacking. Of course we need to wait for QMK to include the more reliable implementation in its core. Consider how many commercial products are built around it, I thought such a widely adopted pattern would have been polished already. In any case, I'm sure we'll get there in the end.

I wonder if is possible to have something like double tap space for shift and tap space than hold it for mouse keys? Additonaly, is it possible to use sticky and mouse keys with it?

You might! This video is mainly meant to highlight the features that I have personally found most useful. While homerow modifications totally click for me, I haven't mentally gotten the double-tap behaviour to work pleasantly.

Yes it is. Tap dance allows four options for any key you wish - tap, double tap, hold and tap then hold (like a double tap where the second stays held)

if i understand right you dont need the softwere to run it just to flash it. Does it work for everything?(like macro)

I have never made a custom build where I had to set up QMK to allow for VIAL myself. But given that you have a board that is VIAL compatible, yeah all of the VIAL features should work (small caveat with the LEDs, if you do/not have them you can/not configure them).

can we configure normal keyboar with this software

Alas, no. The keyboard needs to support a firmware called QMK and it needs to be flashed in a VIAL compatible way. A good chunk of boards do this, but not all.
There is VIA software also, and this channel has a tutorial on how to configure some mods on that with the Nuphy Air v2.
