- Physicians at Oakland Children's Hospital say UCSF Benioff is treating the Oakland facility like second-class citizens and diverting resources from the East Bay to UCSF's Mission Bay facility. Da Lin reports. (5-10-18)
This hospital is so great. Why wouldn't they try to give both the funds they need to grow.
My niece was just there battling cancer unfortunately she lost her battle but won her wings to heaven with her mother and grandmother who also had cancer and other family members.
But the Drs and Nurses there were AH-FREAKING-MAZING. Not only did they take care of the children but they took care of us family members too.
They made sure our mental health was strong for our kids and that we didn't burn out.
I was in a room hiding so that i could cry without my niece or anyone else seeing me and this sweet nurse came in and listened to me talk about my mother, sister and niece and she noticed something in my chest.... It was MY CHEMO PORT.... Im battling stage 3 breast cancer. She sat there for what felt like hours but i know it was only about 20 minutes and when she left. She gave me a hug and told me not to worry. She was in good hands and they would be giving their all try and help her get better and THEY DID to the VERY LAST SECOND of her VERY LAST BREATHE!!!!
They prayed with us and gave us little memory kits. I will forever be grateful to them all for their love. Even with all the children and families they deal with....
They make you feel like family and that your child is the only child they are caring for.
I am sooooo PROUD of Dr. LONG for speaking up about this. Doctors seldom speak out about issues like this because they have no unions to protect them. UCSF stop treating Oakland like a step child.
I am too. Unfortunately,his last day is July 1st. I will miss Dr.Long immensely.
This is prophetic for my from 2007-2021 pertaining to when I was rushed to Children Hospital there in Oakland Ca. by ambulance with my mother riding in the ambulance with me while paramedics attended to me. I was in 2nd grade at the time as an St. Joseph Catholic student. Terrill TC!
This might be a little too late but if you need an update on how the quality of care has progressed over the years from a patient perspective please email me. I am 18 years old and have been seen at both hospitals on each side of the bay. I have a lot of insight knowledge that needs to be heard as it Is the story for so many others. This hospital needs all the support it can get with what limited they have they do amazing. Please reach out to other voices to give a fuller picture..
