lyrics :
We chase misprinted lies
We face the path of time
And yet I fight
And yet I fight
This battle all alone
No one to cry to
No place to call home
Oooh... Oooh...
Oooh... Oooh...
My gift of self is raped
My privacy is raked
And yet I find
And yet I find
Repeating in my head
If I can't be my own
I'd feel better dead
Oooh... Oooh...
Oooh... Oooh...
LEAVING THIS COMMENT ON THIS MASTERPIECE OF
A SONG SO THAT EVERYTIME ONE OF YALL LIKES IT,
I WILL BE NOTIFIED AND REMINDED TO COME BACK
AND LISTEN TO IT ONE MORE TIME!
Almost better than the original
It's so beautiful he did this song justice
Time to come back and listen again, my friend lol
If you've never seen it before I highly recommend you check out the cover he did 2 years ago of Rain When I Die. It's on the Museum of Pop Culture's channel.
@@LadyUndeath I will for sure check it out😁 thanks!
Anyone who says this version is almost better than the original is tone deaf and has NO taste in music. This is the WORST cover version ever. They need to stick to doing their lame emo stuff.

Theoron Maida that's awesome! ❤🤘
Theoron Maida I see what you did there, and, I like it.
Best comment ever!! 😂😂😂

He is smiling somewhere knowing u feel like that!
Rest easy Larry!
My best friend and roommate died suddenly Nov 14th. Nutshell is his favorite song, and Dallas his favorite musician. I'm in shambles
RIP bro hang in there
Hope your doing okay
My brother died a few months ago, he was my best friend. He loved Nutshell. I get it.
Hope the new city and colour album can help you heal brother. Dallas started writing it to help deal with the passing of his good friend who passed away. The love still held me near
My brother is dead, my mother too. Those that love you didn't get lost for nothing. This song is beautiful and I listen to it often. Persist, and defy.
Dallas Green is a Canadian Icon, he deserves much more attention across this planet. Amazing voice.
Saw Alice in Chains tonight in London Ont. Dallas Green opened for them and came out to sing this with AIC. It was Amazing!
Was there too. Great show.. sad my Leafs lost and I couldn't watch lol
Legendary performance. There is a great video of it on RUclips.

I'm today years old with this realization
The Wolf you feed but why did he spell it British/Europe ?
There are a ton of Nutshell covers. This is BY FAR the best one, by far…

By far is a stretch. You've clearly never heard Aaron lewis from "staind" cover this song. I'd say it's just as good as Dallas.
Upchurch 👍🏻🤟🏻
@@NateAcoustics I’ve heard it and you’re right, most things by Aaron Lewis are outstanding and the one he and Corey Taylor do is pretty spectacular as well.

My Dad passed from non-hodgekins lymphoma on 10/6/2020 and there will forever be a piece of me gone from this earth. I miss him every day. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm glad you were able to draw comfort from this performance. For me, when something like that happens, I know my old man sent it.

I can’t remember the last time I teared up during a song, but “I fight this battle all alone, no one to cry to, no place to call home” did it. It made me think of Layne’s last few years.
Me everytime I watch the mtv unplugged version
And then the pause afterwards. Hits the feels
I'd feel better dead it's what gets me
I've listened to this song so many times after my dad passed away. He didn't want to live anymore, but I don't blame him - he was in so much pain in his last year.
This song and Dallas Green's soothing voice has comforted me over and over again.
"I Fight this battle all alone" etc. gives an idea of the despair Layne had. Not to mention the lyrics in Dirt. It's so dark. His bandmembers tried to help but I guess the drugs really had a big grip on him. Poor guy.
Mark was the only one really allowed near him around him for the last years, and he said he just hoped that some big emergency would put Layne in the hospital and give him some time to kick, but it never came. He was literally the closest person and friend to the two biggest rockstars dying in the 1990's.
I'll take a whole album of you covering Alice In Chains.
#DallasInChains
I really wish Dallas would just cover every song
Should he cover your cover of Wrecking Ball? ;D
Anthony Nelson I would love to see that actually, I bet it would be amazing LOL.
True
And tonight night on Dallas Green's "Covering your world", we have new renditions of everything from Spinal tap to Tenacious D
this.
I dont care what anyone says, this is a fantastic cover. Of course no one will ever beat Layne, but this man has got some great vocals.
I literally watched this video 12 times in a row....
And don’t plan on stopping just yet....
I totally "pfft" this comment, as if i'd only watch it maybe 2 or 3 times (because it's awesome). 4th time now and ummm.. yeah, atleast 8 more to go :)
im up to 15 now...
Corby Dinsburger why. they some like some homies
I think he did the song justice and also stayed true to his own style. I like this.
He totally did. I thought this song would be almost impossible to cover but he put his own mark it.
I couldn't agree more! He truly covers it without mimicking Layne... and it's simply magical.
Best thing about this. You can tell his love for the song.
Possibly the best cover ever created.. and Aaron Lewis cover of nutshell is up there. But this is special
This boy been singing this since he was 14....
holy fuck he's good, I saw him last night and my respect for him went up 10X. very few that i've seen can sound that fucking awesome live
Who else search dallas green after seeing him perform rain when i die by AIC in MoPop?
I watched the cover and ended up here. I remember showing this video to my father on my Samsung Galaxy S4. He was not impressed lol.
How I got here, that voice
exactly what happened to me....
@@BdaB164 why wasn’t he impressed? Just curious...
He definitely did the song justice.. Rest in peace Layne
Noah Miller No he didn't. He has no idea what the song is about.
naantjez Its a good cover no need to be so edgy.
I'm bored, i'm the chairman of the board it is
naantjez wtf are you on about
Hes playing it in a different key let alone barely holding on to the route notes he changed it in a bad way in my opinion. Not a hipster experimental song for your list stay in your lane

Man, I sure love Dallas. Always have. He is sooo REAL, and raw. The voice of an angel. His rendition of a classic is beyond recognition.
Mr Gord Downey said that exact statement. Voice of an angel!

nothing like the original... but this... this is what music is all about! I've heard dozens of covers for the past day or two... dozens.! and this guy touches something that lots of versions miss... emotion... I feel he did the song justice!
I love that Dallas pays tribute to Layne and Alice in Chains. This song deserves to be heard by a wider audience. It's one of the most emotionally charged songs ever written in any genre.
What does Layne have to do with it? Jerry Cantrell wrote the song, like he wrote the rest of Alice in Chain's songs. Pay respect to the genius behind the music, not the drug addict who got famous singing other people's songs.
+FacePlant you're a piece of shit. Jerry wrote most of the music, not all. You honestly think layne had no input? Fuck you and your judgement
+FacePlant Layne wrote this song get your facts before you post shit
FacePlant Layne wrote the song man. And by stating that he's paying tribute to Layne and the band I'm not discounting Jerry's contribution. Jerry wrote the majority of the band's catalogue and I'm well aware of that fact. Layne's vocals were what made the songs sore. If you can't recognize that fact then you shouldn't consider yourself a true fan of the band.
Right in the feeling section of my heart. A good version to listen to when you want to listen to the song, but not have your heart torn out by Layne.
with the right music, you either forget everything or you remember everything
if only more people could see what Dallas green is capable of he is one of the best artist I've ever seen 👏👍
Nutshell for me incapsulates what its like living with depression and anxiety its where I find my strength knowing I'm not the only one that struggles
I feel so vulnerable whenever I listen to this version.
I know exactly how you feel.
So do I..
i feel vulnerable listening to dallas green

damn..my favorite AIC song covered by my favorite singer.. glad I randomly decided to type 'Dallas Green' tonight. thank you
You discovered this for me....we cried to this song many times...for Ryan.....for our own disjointed lives and emotions that we couldnt correctly express to each other...this wreckage ive created will forever chase me down...id feel better dead cant feel more right at this moment....
I'm a huge Alice fan and there is nothing wrong with this cover. It's a very nice take on the song, he really made it his own. The guitar work is especially nice
I like the singing but I do not like the guitar, seems lazy and when Jerry plays it there is a ring that comes out during the intro that no one but him seems to get the guitar to do.
@MaddBuddah I gave it another listen, I still stand by the guitar being lazy but he does have a great voice.
Holy shit I didn’t think I could like a version of this song as much as the mtv unplugged version but wow this got as close as possible.
Honestly whoever felt it necessary to add this intro and outro to this video isn't getting into heaven.b
It's hard to capture the emotional pain behind the lyrics in this song, to really sound as lost and alone as Layne did is something you can't recreate.... but this guy sounds like he understands the feeling. Great cover. Definitely checking out his other work after that show of talent.
wow... just WOW. The only cover I've ever heard do this song justice.
Nor Wester staind does a good cover also
Nor Wester As Does Corey Taylor, his is the best in my eyes, but this isn't bad
Does he do it with Stone Sour or solo??? I'll look it up. I dig Corey Harris so cheers, I'll look forward to hearing it.
Aaron lewis does it pretty awesome
Believe it or not Upchurch does a pretty good cover as well of nutshell
Such a haunting and emotional song. thank you Layne 💗💔
+Tracey
this is by far my favorite AIC song!!!
Mine too
Agreed
Life is so unfair sometimes
KingKanoD you lose haha
People typically don't understand when older AIC fans say that every song is about heroine. Of course, this song is about fame and holding on to one's identity......but it's also about heroine. It bleeds into every aspect of the artist's expression and remains as the layer beneath. Every song has a oily black vein corroding the soul from within and that( in a strange way)makes it even more beautiful.
This was deep as fuck. Totally agree though. Heroin isn't something simple. Its an addiction. And addictions, when strong enough, become part of who you are.
we need a "Dallas in chains" cover album man....you are amazing Mr. green.
He did another cover for a big tribute they were getting, few artists did covers!
jesus christ...Dallas has such a mesmerizing voice. He's also super brave to cover Alice In Chains, but I'm not disappointed.

Selah0412 that was the best cover ever.
Its ok calm down . . . Think of your favorite city and your favorite color.

Man. I’ve been watching rock covers and guitar covers for a while, and then someone had to recommend coming to listen to Dallas’s version of something.
I’ve been going through letting go of a relationship that lasted 4 years, and she used to listen to city and Colour with me a lot. Dallas’s voice just rends open my heart
Wow, never heard of this guy and this is my favorite song of all time. He did a fantastic job. Its hard to compete with the original but he put his own touch on it and its beautiful.
If you enjoy this style from him, check out "nowhere, Texas" or "coming home". The second one is very close to this sound in this version. You'll love it!
Oh man, you’re missing out! City and Colour have so many great tunes, especially when you’re just in a mood.
And if you guys are down with some heavier stuff, check out his original band Alexisonfire! Probably the greatest post-hardcore bands of the early 00's. What a career Dallas Green has had.
@@nathanchildress5596 oh he was from that band? I know them, didn't realize that was his band
I think all these Layne fans who think this song isn't being done justice need to go listen to City And Colour's first 3 albums and realise Dallas knows exactly what this song is about.
Ehhh, slightly, but still no comparison.
+Intelligent Stimulus...Dallas Green definitely did an outstanding cover of this song and also made it unique..
i personally like this cover better than the original. his voice depicts the heaviness of the lyrics and their meaning, without the angst in his voice.
i do like layne and all but....the cliche grunge vocals get on my nerves, after a while. switch it up some time.
Miranda Alexander Say what you will, but Layne's vocal capabilities far exceed anything this hipster could dream of doing.
You already decided you hated it before he even started playing. You took one look at him and made up your mind that he sucks.
obviously this guy has a musical background and knows exactly what he's talking about LMAO @semiintelligent stimulus
This is my favorite cover I've heard of this song. Beautiful man. My buddies and I just covered it and my friend said it well when I showed him this ..."you captured the pain from a completely different angle. Excellent." Your voice is inspiring. Thank you.

Back here 8 years later, will always love this man’s music. (I know cover) but still. I’ll never forget seeing him live and singing every word to every single song

Couldn't have said it better.
This is unbelievably amazing. Everything he does is so entrenched in emotion. I love it.

I think it is so fucking hard to put into words how hearing Dallas sing so many songs (his or cover) makes me feel. Haunts me, touches my soul, makes me weep, makes me think about things I never thought of before, his singing actually makes me want to be a better human being! I can't get enough of his voice and the feelings that it makes me feel. His music is such a gift and I don't know if I'm worthy but I sure will try to be! ❤
God damn it.. He captured the spirit of this song so well
Collin Glover my thoughts exactly!!
Of course we all miss Layne. Of course no one can sing this song with as much emotion and heart wrenching turmoil as Layne . Its because Layne wrote it. But Dallas is not trying to. He is just playing and singing a beautiful song in his own way. Not a competition but a tribute to Layne and obvious admiration for such a perfect song. I love it. I felt as if Dallas played the song with as much emotion as anyone except for Layne. He is obviously a fan that loved and respected Layne and his otherworldly talent
