'Holy smokes!! What's going on? It's firefighter dingaling to the rescue!' is what I'm gonna yell when I see a firetruck from now on🤣 I love retro commercials...appreciate you highlighting them and all these fantastic robots
You really seem to like.......retro commercials. You thought I was going to say dinglings, didn't you? No? You thought I was going to say animals in people clothes? Well, I can't fault you there.
I..mean...dinglings are never bad. The photo dingling with the camera that magically pops out was pretty magical. Animals in people clothes...eh, they're okay I guess
I have a pretty good knowledge of classic sci-fi I'd say. And I've learned a ton, and forgotten even more, from doing this channel. But I still learn new things all time and quite a bit from viewers. All this time, I had no idea Silent Running was a sci-fi film. I had it completely mixed up with another movie. Looking into it, I think I thought it was either Midnight Express or Runaway Train. So all that aside, is Silent Running a good movie?
@@AtomicSnackBar "Silent Running" is submarine lingo, so I always think of movies like "Run Silent, Run Deep". Excellent movie! Bruce Dern stars as the space environmentalist. Excellent SPFX, as you would imagine.
@@creech54 You had me at Bruce Dern. I've been a big fan since I was a lad thanks to World Gone Wild, which is one of my favorite post apocalypse films.
When I was little, I had King Ding with his operator, Brain. I also had the Ding-a-Ling Skyway, which was a set of toothed blue tracks that you could put together in a straight line and have one of the robots go along it. I also had the construction robot. I wanted Rocky, the one with missiles for arms, but never got him. I still have the construction robot somewhere, and I have a Brain that I found in the trash a few years ago. I don't have any of the power packs that made them move though. Those were always harder to get than the robots themselves.
That's great that you still have some of them. They were a bit before my time unfortunately, but I certainly would have loved them. Very up my alley. I did though collect several robot lines in the 80s. One of my favorites being the Mysterians. They were transforming robots....sorta. Hard to explain. Thanks for stopping by the Lounge. Toys are actually one of my biggest passions in life. Always great to talk to another collector.
When Marvel had the rights to make Godzilla comics, they introduced a giant robot called Red Ronin. It was built as an anti-Godzilla weapon, but the inventor's young son snuck on board and took control of it, using it to help Godzilla in fights. It was eventually destroyed in battle.
That's interesting. I never read any of the Marvel comic. The Dark Horse book was the one that was running when I first got into comics, so I'm a bit more familiar with that one. How did Red Ronin look?
@AtomicSnackBar think of a samurai crossed with raydeen in red and gold. For Marvel's godzilla comic, the mega-monsters 3 part story was great. Plus, it had godzilla vs. s.h.i.e.l.d., the Avengers, and the fantastic four.
As a dog lover, Muffet stole the show on this list. Putting a chimpanzee inside him is a stroke of genius. I need to check out those darker Disney movies. Jet Jaguar is cool! Your videos are absolutely fantastic - entertaining, insightful and fantastically edited, keep up the awesome work 👍
I think you would dig The Black Hole and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Then again, I only have nostalgia brain to work with. Not positive I still really dig them. But both definitely look great aesthetically. And I'm totally a cat person, but still love me some Muffet II. That's just the power of the Muffet. Thanks so much for the kind words too. I put sooo much into the editing, it actually really does make my day(not in a Dirty Harry way) when someone mentions it.
The Black Hole is fantastic, campy & epic. Worth it just for angular design & menace of Maximilian. It’s trippy. Also, it featured some of the first cgi work, and was the first Disney PG rated film.
I seem to recall a little (first & last parts) of the "Infra Man" Commercial I saw on TV: "Science creates a man beyond bionics.........." "Infra Man! The ultimate in science fiction!"
Yes on a part deux!! I must admit it blew my mind learning a chimpanzee was used for the robo dog... that just seems like it could have been a production disaster, but they did it 👍
Yeah, always surprised and thought it strange there is a chimpanzee in there. Knowing that, actually makes watching him more bizarre. Glad he didn’t go ape on set and attack that kid. Also, if it gets a premium toy, you should be able to dismantle it and see the majestic chimp inside. (I just typed that, lol).
Except for number four I've seen every one of these as a kid cuz I grew up in the 70s so I knew every one of these except number four. All great designs all fun to watch I miss my childhood.
If you are into tokusatsu, The Super Inframan is easily my highest recommendation. Unfortunately though, it appears to be rather rare these days. But see it any way you can.
I loved The Blackhole when I was a kid, and I always thought that the robots in it were awesome, and especially Maximilian! More Dingalings😆! Dingaling Spy's hidden camera boner was really enhanced with that spring sound effect too🤣
If you think about it, most things are enhanced with a spring sound effect. Imagine Quilted crushing her enemies. Now imagine her doing so with a spring sound effect. That's gold right there.
Fascinating vid. 👍👍👍 These designs have such a unique charm all their own. I'm getting an Imperial Guard vibe too vibe from the red robot from Black Hole...or maybe even a Battle droid. I'd suggest a part 2 of 70's robots if you are up to it, this was excellent man.
And now that Disney owns Star Wars, they could actually put the Imperial Guard and Maximillian together for a buddy film. Or romantic comedy. That's one I would actually watch. I think I will do a part two after I do the 80s part. Thanks for stopping by the lounge again.
Another great video dude!! Maxmillian in hell with the man merged with machine is my favorite scene in this movie. Imagery with the demons is awesome. On the less cooler side of things, I liked Muffit from BG. He bailed those Colonials out of jams quite a few times.
I always thought that scene was super cool as well. I used to reenact it with my model kit. Though that was really just me standing there with the kit imaging the camera panning away. And I think people often over look how useful a robot dog piloted by chimpanzee can actually be. Thanks for stopping by the lounge again. Good to see you.
Great list Jer loves Muffit 2!!! I remember having the Maximilian figure. I love the Black Hole man I’ve not seen it in years. Holy smokes that commercial break 😳 call me King Ding
That's awesome. To have seen that on the big screen. But you know what they say, "You are only as old as you feel." If that's true ... I am a very old man.
Mechagodzilla, and Mechani-Kong as well, are both great bots. I would have liked to cover Mechagodzilla eventually as well, but it's gotten really tough to get away with using Toho footage. Thanks for watching, Jim. And do you have a favorite model of Mechagodzilla?
Another great list! Nice to see some love for Muffet 2. I was around for the original Battlestar Galactica. The only one in book. It was very exciting to see Star Wars like effects on tv. I don't think people today realize what a big deal that once was. These days with CGI you can have movie quality effects for just a car commercial but in those days there was a difference between what you saw in the movies and tv. And Galactica was awesome. I always liked Muffet 2. Especially the sound effects when he talked. I enjoyed The Black Hole very much. A lot of people seem to out it down but I don't agree. It turned out to be more of a mystery and I think people were expecting it to be more Star Wars. But the robots were great. As I type this I'm looking at a small toy of Vincent sitting on my shelf. I love his face off with Maximillian who I agree is a very intimidating and creepy robot! Starcrash is epic! Yes, often called the Italian Star Wars but I agree it's more Harryhausen. I mean for God's sake it has Caroline Munro in it! Elle with his southern accent is very memorable. I love Jet jaguar. My first exposure to Godzilla was the Showa era and while many people these days might see it as silly, it was the perfect intro to Godzilla for a kid. And still my favorite. Jet jaguar reminded me of Giant Robot in that he was friends with a kid. I assume you've seen this: ruclips.net/video/Gl4degN00Ug/видео.html I don't know what happened to the actual short. they had it up for about a month but now all I can find is the trailer.
Right there with you, good sir. It's all about the Showa era for me. Even though I want to say Godzilla '85 was my first Godzilla movie, I have just never been able to get into dark and gritty Godzilla. I've tried, but I just like my Godzilla to be light and fun. Even the Heisei stuff was a bit too serious for me. Oddly enough, that really just applies to Godzilla. My favorite Kamen Rider is the darker stuff like the first season and the borderline horror movies from the 90s. I did see that trailer, but never got around to watching the full short. Sounds like I may have missed my chance. I do wonder with The Black Hole if a part of the disdain for it, even if just a tiny part, comes from a bias against the fact that it was Disney? But that was a very different time for the company. Just look at Something Wicked This Way Comes. I appreciate you checking out these older episodes, Rob. It's mighty kind of you.
I have to agree with you on this list 100 percent I loved everyone you picked. As a side note My mother made me a costume of Muffet when I was a lil kid for Halloween and I kept wearing it on weekends and when watching battlestar galactica my only addition to this list would be OG mechagodzilla. He was my first love and the first godzilla movies I saw were his two movies from the 1970's
Now that sounds super cool. You don't happen to have any photos of the Muffet costume do you? I would quite like to see that. And I was the same way. I would wear Halloween costumes all year. And Mechagodzilla would have been a fine addition to the list. I was going to put him on an upcoming sequel episode, but Toho has gotten where they block every video I try to do using any of their footage.
@@AtomicSnackBar I emailed my mother and she is going to look we lost alot of photos ina house fire but that might have survived. I also asked for photos of the rd dr cake she baked for me when I was 8
Hey pal it's fantastic seeing that the channels doing great, it makes me really happy as you deserve it, your such a good talker and very entertained, you always have content that I've never heard of which I love because variety is the spice of life right? I'd love to go to a world full of ding a lings, I also thought that ad about those ding a Ling toys looked pretty cool, all hail king ding a Ling. You do love your robots, and your robots love you, as do I, I'm looking forward to hearing about what you think of Dr who's Cybermen.
All hail King Ding. Just don't let JJ, if he survives, know about it. Last thing we need is him joining another cult. He can barely keep up with the three he's in already. I don't know about the Cybermen. But the robots from the first episode were pretty darn fantastic. I have a real soft spot for clockwork/steam punkie robots. And I, as well as everyone here at the lounge, thank you for your kind words. You sir are a gentleman, a scholar, and a pal.
Good list , sterling , Muffett 2 was a great robot , and the look of Maximilian is definitely a neat looking Robot. Very entertaining list. All hail King Ding.
I really dig the Iron Armored Monsters. Definitely a really cool design. Speaking of Monster Magazine I really enjoyed my copy. I have gotten very close to reading it from cover to cover. If I have learned anything from this video is that I really need to watch Star Crash. I have known about it for pretty much all my life but it’s just one of those movies that slipped by me. I definitely can’t argue with your number one because I would say that it’s the perfect choice. Anyway this was another excellent episode my friend. Highly enjoyable.
Those Monster Magazines are really cool. That young whipper snapper Vance knows how to put together a layout. Star Crash is definitely one I've been singing the praises of for ages. It really should have been a series. Luckily, it is still very readily available to buy. Unlike Galaxina, another fav of mine. That's another high recommendation of mine. Thanks as always for stopping by the lounge and bringing Castlevania shaped cookies.
The Black Hole was Disneys equal to Event Horizon. 1. Both ships basically went to hell. 2. The crew of both ships didnt need eyes where they were going. 3. Haunted space ships/ghosts in the Schell....
“Back in the day when you got freebies when you went to the movies..” Not like today when they charge you your firstborn for a ticket & a car payment for candy. I don’t think you could get a free kick in the nuts at a theater nowadays lol
Diamond Select have produced an incredible Maximilian figure, which should still be available. There are two versions out there, look for the one that contains an alternative head. The one with the eyes... Also, if you do a second list, it needs more Yul Brynner.
It's interesting you mentioned that figure, Dave. I actually discovered it right after filming this video. And it was a good price too. But a week later when I had a little fun money, it had almost doubled in price. Which is odd, cause it had been out for years. And I don't want to give away any spoilers, but chances are extremely high that Yul will make the sequel list.
Had the Maximilian model. It was cool because it hovered from a wire hook. Thought Vincent and Bob were great too. That movie had a decent cast as well with Anthony Perkins, Ernest Borgnine, Robert Foster, Slim Pickens as Bob and Maximilian Schell ad Dr. Reinhardt
Fantastic list Slim. I love muffet. i had the action figure, i used to watch it every week. Infra man was the second movie i saw in theaters. It's so weird,no one talks about it. This might be my favorite list buddy. The black hole is so good.. old Bob was my favorite robot from that. I had the Vincent figure. I was always taught not to play with my ding a ling, i might go blind. Starcrash is so good. Jet Jaguar of course, Godzilla vs. Megalon was my first movie in theaters. Rob you magnificent bastard, you made me hit every emotion with this video. Hey I never got a comic.
Wait...this just kind of sunk in. Your first movie in the theater was Godzilla vs Megalon(my favorite Godzilla movie) and your second was The Super Inframan(my favorite tokusatsu film). That is fantastic. Very very groovy first two films. Hats off for that, my friend. I'll tell ya, I relate to Old B.O.B. a lot more these days, being a robot who has seen better days himself. And man, I wanted that Muffet figure so badly. I wish some fancy pants modern toy company would do a new one. Thanks for watching, pal. And again, I do appreciate you checking out these old ones.
@@AtomicSnackBar I'm just sorry I missed them when they first came out. Godzilla vs. Megalon is my favorite as well. Maybe it's because of sentimental reasons maybe because Jet is so darn cool. When my Dad took me to see Godzilla, they had a preview for Infra man. Because of that preview we went to see it when it came out.
@@HorrificNightmaresJM I want to say Godzilla '85 was the first I actually saw. But as a kid my favorite was probably Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla cause I liked King Caesar so much. Godzilla vs Megalon came to be my favorite after seeing it as an adult. So I think there is some real merit to it.
Couple things...Disney still has the full size Maximillian prop, you can see it in the background of their archives in the first (I think) episode of Prop Culture. I had the Mego figure...very disappointing. The arms twirled at his sides, that was it. Super awesome robot on screen...background fodder on the playground.
That is very cool that they still have the prop, nonetheless that it's managed to stay in one piece. So the Black Hole figures were by Mego? I didn't know that. That's pretty spiffy though in and of itself. Thanks for stopping by the lounge, Skipper.
@@AtomicSnackBar Yeah- Mego was trying to get in on the Star Wars craze. They had better articulation (overall), like the Hasbro 1980's G.I. Joes but less detail painting.
1. Muffet freaked me out as a 5 year old ...dead cyborg dog was so sad. 2. ...and Kamen Rider? :) 3. ....Condorman? :) 4. Ding-a-ling spy...BOING! 5. Cozzi as in Godzilla re-edit? Godzilla as in Monster Magazine issue 8? 6. You need to watch Zone Fighter...the posing and hand shakes and team up with Godzilla...all there. 7. Great episode...BOING!
My favorite episode of Zone Fighter is the one where Muffet XI and Condorman team up against Kamen Rider cause Kamen Rider stole issue 36 of Monster Magazine. Classic.
Vincent was my favorite from the Black Hole, and I had the toy, but Vincent wouldn't have been such a great hero WITHOUT Maximilian. Hero is only as good as his villain, and Max was a legendary villain. But I love Roddy McDowell.
As I said elsewhere, Godzilla vs Megalon was the first Godzilla movie that I saw in a theater and Jet is great. I especially love his MST3K theme song.
@@Skaramine That is really neat. I've never gotten to see a Showa era Godzilla film, other than the very first movie, on the big screen. I would love to see both Godzilla vs Megalon and Destroy All Monsters.
I still have yet to see Silent Running. Oddly, until only a few years back, I had it completely merged with another film in my head. Thought it was about a train heist.
Red Ronin was featured as Godzilla's nemesis in the DC Godzilla comics. BTW, since you're a Jet Jaguar fan, you might want to check out the anime "Godzilla:Singular Point".
Can we give a look at others like K-9 ( doctor who), hector ( saturn 3), peepo (space academy), bubo ( clash of the titans), biotron and microtron ( the micronauts) ?
We sure can. Well, some of them. I covered Hector and Bubo in my Top 1980s Sci-fi Robots episode. Dr. Who, though, I haven't been able to cover. It's really tough to get away with using the footage. Comics are something I haven't dug into much on the channel, but I'd like to. I'm a big comics person.
@AtomicSnackBar must have overlooked that episode. I understand about some being hard to cover because of copyright issues. Another I would add to it would be REM from logan's run the series. He's probably the proto data of Androids.
@@bri55118 Interesting you bring that one up. I've been on kind of a '70s kick lately. I just finished watching the extremely underrated Planet of the Apes series. And just recently I was looking to pick up that Logan's Run series. I've never seen it.
Iron Armour Monsters"??!! i'm so up for that!! any Shaw Bros productions gets my attention with added drooling for any supernatural fantasy elements!! Maxamillian did creep me out ..as much as the two "cute" droids annoyed me in "The Black Hole"! can see why you didn't talk about the droids from Star Wars as they get more than enough love and airtime! The Ding-a-Lings are so wonderfully hokey i bet that they didn't do as much for kids as they've since done for collectors who never took them out of the packet! and speaking of "hokey and packaging" ...no "Box" from "Logans Run"? its a small part and not the best design...but he did serve up a little bit of creep factor as well and nearly serving up Logan and Jessica (?) for the frozen food section of his cave.
You got it exactly right. A big part of why I do this is to turn folks on to stuff they haven't seen before. If a person hasn't seen Star Wars, they probably aren't watching any of my videos.
You got me with Moffett 2 and the chimpanzee. I always wondered what he was that cute costume. Star Crash was definitely not a Star Wars rip off and Jet could have took on any creature of alone. I would love to see a part two if you feel like it Sterling.
You gotta love the Muffet II. Putting a chimp in the costume really was an effective way to create a unique effect. I may dress a chimp up like myself and have him host a few episodes. I don't think anyone would notice. And I think I may just do a volume two. People definitely seem to dig the 70s robots.
@@AtomicSnackBar YES YES!!!! TO the part 2. I would prefer you not to have a chimp dressed as you. I enjoy seeing you as a human with those crazy shirts of yours.
Short & Sweet I Remember as a kid seeing Caroline on the Ed Sullivan Show in her role as Auntie Friction for Noxzema Shaving & skin cream where she sat in a pile of Shaving Cream totally nude but you never see her actual nude as she didn't do anything where she was naked just sexy as sexy gets & she's a lovely person with no bad things to say ever about those she worked with & Stella was one of best roles next to her portrayal of Carla in Hammers Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter . No need to tell you she was married to Judd Hamilton who played Elle the robot with that quirky western accent. Fun flick with lots of cool color effects & just enough cheese to make it just plain neat to watch. For myself 70s robots were not as cool as all the old ones but that's just my opinion only. Lots of cool ones though & one you didn't get in was the Robot from Dr. Who with Sarah Jane & Tom Baker & of course K -9 .. A part two to this may be something to think about doing but you seem to be able to get a lot in a little time so that would up to you & i would think you viewers would not mind at all 😃🤖
Remember my comment about sexiness and the 70s? Stella and Elle. Sexiest couple of all time. And I actually do have a Part II to this one. It's a slightly later one too, so it's a better made episode. Ah, scratch that. I was going to grab you the link and I see you found it already.
@@AtomicSnackBar Thanks Stirling i have been checking out what you have & there's a lot to look at so it will take me time but i have plenty of that now. Loving what i see & I'm pleased you're not one of those guys that takes offence when others chime in on something you may have just left out or missed & i know it takes time to make these vids & not like mine where i just post a few of my tunes & see if anyone will listen. Funny i noticed your glass is never empty & that must be the Dean Martin in you LOL !!! I just hope the smoke i see is not from cigarettes!!!! So yes your 100% right about Caroline she is one sexy & delightful lady & if you search hard enough you may find that photo of her in a pile of Noxzema Shaving Cream, they did with her but that did get banned soon after even if you see nothing but that smile & a bit of her neck, back then it was a shocker & there are a few photos from that session she did where she's just posing as AUNTIE FRICTION. Most of my Monster flicks are off cable TV & both store bought VHS & DVDs but i have well over 400 & paid very little. Starcrash i do have as well as most of the films Caroline was in. I do have the images of her in the Noxzema ads but i think you can find them still. She never posed with no clothes on as she didn't think it was right to do & she never had to as beautiful as she was & still is. The only woman i will look at and gawk without my wife going breath just breathe she's just a woman, yea she is but i have the right reply, which is the truth, Yea she is but still she's not you!!! We are headed for 38 years married so that line still works & i will only gawk cause it's Caroline & from the age of 7 i knew who she was as my folks always watched Ed Sullivan. Sorry i do tend to ramble so i will try and keep everything else shorter. I did send you one more track of the Band I'm in & i know you will groove to this one. Keep it old & keep it good.
I hardly ever look at other people's posts which is probably bad but I don't know if anybody told you that the robot from Battlestar Galactica the pet was actually a chimpanzee inside of a costume that's one reason it seems like it has really long fore legs, not third leg..
Maxamallian was a bad dude but the little guy took him out! But you left out Jet Jaguar? And I saw the black hoie once! But where's the six finger commercial? Staring Matters fave Kurt Russell? But this was the first time I heard of a rail gun on the black hole. But you finally got to the jet man!! Nice! Or hai yata!!
You got me there for a second. It's been so long since I've watched this one, I had forgotten who was on the list. I couldn't imagine leaving out Jet, my favorite 70s robot.
@@AlanEmmons-qw6bg I have a compilation of classic toy commercials here on the channel. The Kurt Russell one is included in that. Lots of neat stuff on there. You might dig it.
ooh just remembered another one...the robot/AI (called Proteus) from "Demon Seed" with Julie Christie (1977). How many other robots that look entirely non-human (more like a Rubik's Cube gone crazy) that sexually assault a woman and get her pregnant can you think of? Hopefully none! that it's by the co-director of "Performance" adds to the whole unlikely affair.
I've heard quite a bit about Demon Seed. Haven't seen it, though, I don't think. You have my interest piqued with "Rubik's Cube gone crazy." That sounds like my kind of bot.
Ok now that is truly weird choice of music with the Ding-a-ling advert. The opening music, before we get to the fireman, is best kown here in the UK as the music from the quiz show Mastermind. A show which expects its contestants to have Otaku grade knowledge on a specalist subject. Very odd seeing it used to advertise kids toys. Weird trivia fact about the show - the when he came up with idea for the show, the creator drew on his experience of being interogated by the Gestapo during WW2.
That is interesting. What year did Mastermind begin airing? That Ding-a-ling line came out in 1971. Though I don't know when the commercial actually aired.
@@AtomicSnackBar off the top of my head, without out scurrying off to wikipedia I think started either 1971-72. It is still going strong and still terrifying contestants to this day.
@@AtomicSnackBar exceptionally btw the music, which was composed for the quiz show is called Approaching Menance. :) And has been likened to a drunk man falling down the stairs. Seems an odd choice for an advert ad yet it does work really well.
Ah, Maximilian shouldn't be on the list, same reason you mentioned a previous character couldn't be on this list. Same reason why most of the 'robots' on the Cygnus can't be on the list. V.I.N.CENT and B.O.B could be and should be included. Those two are near top of my list, maybe even the top or my list. For me, they're higher than any of the Star Wars droids.
And I got a mixmash of toys sometimes from what my grandparents thought were the same thing which irritated me at the time because my mind wouldn't allow me to integrate one genre to another even if they were the same size so to speak the Fisher-Price people had a hard time with it I'll tell you and the black hole robots in the Star Wars robots did not get along
I'm surprised by the Muffet choice and the reception as it seems many had relegated him to Jar Jar status over the years. Then again, it's not uncommon to see the whole series get trashed, perhaps as pushback by fans of the nuBSG series. Speaking of underrated, it seems The Black Hole doesn't always get much love either. 1979 seemed a banner year for huge haunted vessels between Black Hole, Alien and Star Trek: The Motion Picture.
Now that you mention it, I don't think I've run across any BSG fandom online. So this is news to me. But I guess it's like with Ewoks. Genre fans often don't like the cute characters. Even though the Ewoks were vicious little killers who probably ate the stormtroopers. With the Black Hole, I wonder if the fact that it's Disney hurts it for some reason. If it was any other company, perhaps it would be more fondly remembered?
Okay. I've gotta say it. Shoe shine Dingaling looks like he's holding a roll of toilet paper. Spy Dingaling look s like he's flashing someone. And King Dingaling sounds like a seventies porn star. Just saying'.😆 Maximilian was the coolest and truly threatening robot since Gort. The sentry guard robots need to be on your next top five. Both the Black Hole and their animated feature the Black Cauldron are from the Roy Disney leadership period and darkly interesting attempts to find a less child like , more adult inclusive direction after Walt's passing and the ridicule they received after films like The Fox and the Hound. Hollywood is a mean place. I really like them both, although they're unsatisfying in some ways. I had forgotten that I wanted to see Super Inframan! On the list. Sorry, but Caroline Munroe in a leather bikini and boots? I don't know that I noticed anything else after seeing her. Yowza Yowza!😍😋 Jet Jaguar is the best part of that particular Godzilla entry. I can never get enough robots, my friend. Keep 'um comin' !
Actually, King Dingaling did have a brief career in the toy robot adult film industry after the action figure money dried up. His story was much like Boogie Nights.....only robotic. With even more awesome Stan Bush music. I didn't know Black Hole was from the Roy Disney era. That's interesting. Too bad that didn't go on for longer. Cause some truly high quality stuff came out then. Caroline Munro's Star Crash look does kind of steal the thunder of pretty much everything else. I could probably do an episode on Top Caroline Munro looks. Between Stella Starr and Sinbad, she truly is iconic. And I will put my tinfoil hat on and do some robot thinking. Thanks for watching, Tony. Always a pleasure when you stop by the lounge.
Here's some more hidden Disney history. Right after those late seventies power struggles, and the Don Bluth mutiny to start his own country, the Corporate types (vultures)moved in and pulled a coup.(hostile takeover. This was greedy eighties. The rise of the Yuppie.) In order to raise capital to restructure the company, they quietly opened 'Touchstone Pictures' in order to make adult(R rated)comedies without tarnishing the family friendly Disney brand name. The strategy worked and they used that lucrative market to rebuild their animation studio over time. They had long had their distribution company under Buena Vista so they could keep everything in-house and on the download. Sneaky little buggers. You'll not likely read that in any officially sanctioned Disney history. They also sold diseased blankets to the Lakota tribes in the late 1880s.😆😐 Anyyyyyway... More Caroline Munro? YESSSSS!!!! Another RUclipsr I subscribe to under Fredflix does nostalgia videos and did a 'vote for your favourite Monroe/Munro' video about 2 weeks ago. Caroline rocked the vote! She was also in a Hammer horror flick called Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter which is seriously cool and fun with a great soundtrack. More robots and more Caroline Munro please!
@@tonysantiago255 That's really interesting. I'm not sure I knew that Touchstone was Disney owned. I know they did that same sort of thing with Hollywood Records though. Some of the artists that were signed to that label are really surprising. Speaking of the lovely Lady Munro, I'm sure you know this already, but she was almost Vampirella as well. It supposedly it fell through because she wouldn't do nudity. That is one of my most lamented of unmade films of all time. A Hammer Vampi with Caroline.
'Holy smokes!! What's going on? It's firefighter dingaling to the rescue!' is what I'm gonna yell when I see a firetruck from now on🤣

Top 3 favorite 1970s movie robots . . . Huey, Dewey, and Louie, from Douglas Trumbull's "Silent Running" (1972).

@@AtomicSnackBar I've been a fan since the original airing of the OL epi. "The Zanti Misfits". 😁
@@creech54 I'm a big fan of The Zanti Misfits myself. That's one I would quite like a figure of some kind.
The Black Hole robots designs still hold, the movie itself was like watching 20,000 Leagues under the Sea in Space.
They sure do. And I think Maximillian is on par with anything that has come since.
These never get old more of these
I appreciate that, Hobbs. Will do.
Maximillians design, although awesome and ahead of it's time, was straight nightmare fuel.
That he was and still is, I'd say.
Definitely need a second list.
It was a tough narrow down. Perhaps I should do a part II.
Burst out laughing at the advert for Ding-a-lings. I immediately thought, 'Won't you play with my ding-a-ling'?' by Chuck Berry.
It's hard not to relate the two. Though my mind always goes to the Simpson version.
Very psyched to see Jet Jaguar as number one on the list. How can anyone NOT love him? He was the best part of that outrageous, fun movie.
And still my favorite giant robot/Godzilla buddy to this day. Speaking of, I was just checking out your Jet stop motion short. Very impressive.
Keep the list coming Sterling!
Will do. This channel hasn't seen the last of sci-fi robots. Oh no.
The Black Hole was Disney's very first movie they made that was not Rated G. And had some great effects in that movie for the day.
Yes, indeed. The effects hold up really well even still. Max is still as threatening and spooky as he ever was.
Thanks for stopping by, Ray.
Any movie with Carolin Monrow in it has to be great.
Truer words have never been spoken.
Great video, and yes, please do a Part II.
I will consult my marketing team and get back to you.
I seem to recall a little (first & last parts) of the "Infra Man" Commercial I saw on TV: "Science creates a man beyond bionics.........." "Infra Man! The ultimate in science fiction!"
A claim I whole heartedly agree with. Easily my favorite tokusatsu of all time.
Yes on a part deux!! I must admit it blew my mind learning a chimpanzee was used for the robo dog... that just seems like it could have been a production disaster, but they did it 👍
And did it well at that. Just that wee bit of footage I showed looked really cool. Talk about a character that needs and updated toy.
Love it- well done. Keep up the good work! Campy monster fun!
Thanks, Ron. And thanks for stopping by the Snack Bar.
Yes. Do a 2nd top 1970s robots please!
Sounds like a plan. Thanks George.
I was eight or nine when most of the 70s Bots came out I couldn't get enough
Heck, I still can't get enough.
Jer clearly has great taste. I'll even let the Kane Roberts thing slide. Cause Muffet II is a gateway to Kane Roberts.
Thanks for watching, King Ding.
I actually watched that movie with Jet Jaguar in the theater as a kid! Damn, I'm old! LoL!
That's awesome. To have seen that on the big screen.
But you know what they say, "You are only as old as you feel." If that's true ... I am a very old man.
I think Star Crash jumpstarted puberty for us Star geeks
Ah, Stella Star. Easily my favorite non-princess space lady.
Carolyn Monroe...very shagadelic..
Just found your channel, awesome. My favorite robot is Mecha Godzilla, but I'm diggin Maximillion. Can't believe I haven't seen The Black Hole, yet!
Love the commercial breaks. I actually had one of those Vincent robot figures from the Black hole when I was a kid.
That is pretty groovy. I just found out that those toys were put out by Mego. I didn't know they did actual figures.
Best villain name ever: Princess Dragon Mom
I know, right? I wonder if there is a band out there called that.
To this day my mom mixes up Vincent of the Black Hole and R2D2 😆
That's funny. But I see it, both films being so obscure and all.
I assume you've seen this: ruclips.net/video/Gl4degN00Ug/видео.html
I don't know what happened to the actual short. they had it up for about a month but now all I can find is the trailer.
Agree about the Disney bias. They were trying some new things. And I thought Something Wicked this Way comes was pretty good too.@@AtomicSnackBar
There was a novelization of THE BLACK HOLE, and it was written by science fiction author Alan Dean Foster.

That's neat. I have still yet to see any of them in person.

Many thanks, Emily. I really appreciate when folks check out these older videos.

I've always considered Maximilian to be profoundly intimidating... only second to Darth Vader himself.
That he was. And Max would have fit in very well with the Imperial Guard.
Love this to death !
Alice Cooper said that same thing...about this video.
Hey pal it's fantastic seeing that the channels doing great, it makes me really happy as you deserve it, your such a good talker and very entertained, you always have content that I've never heard of which I love because variety is the spice of life right?

All hail King Ding.
Just don't let JJ, if he survives, know about it. Last thing we need is him joining another cult. He can barely keep up with the three he's in already.
I don't know about the Cybermen. But the robots from the first episode were pretty darn fantastic. I have a real soft spot for clockwork/steam punkie robots.

The Wacky World Lounge You got to love Castlevania shaped cookies. With Bats, candles, fangs, and skeletons you can’t go wrong.
The Black Hole was Disneys equal to Event Horizon.
1. Both ships basically went to hell.
2. The crew of both ships didnt need eyes where they were going.
3. Haunted space ships/ghosts in the Schell....
That is an excellent point. I hadn't thought of that before. But they do often say that was Disney's dark period.
“Back in the day when you got freebies when you went to the movies..”
Not like today when they charge you your firstborn for a ticket & a car payment for candy. I don’t think you could get a free kick in the nuts at a theater nowadays lol
I lived in L.A. for many years. They would have charged for kicks to certain areas.
The best robot of the 70s in this vid had a shaved head, a beard and is wearing sunglasses !😂😅😊
That's one of the nicest comments I've gotten all week. I thank you much.
I HAVE THE MUFFET FIGURE RIGHT BEFORE ME !
Oh man, rub it in.
Reinhardt
And just think, you grew up to have your very own Bob sidekick as well. Life imitating art right there. He doesn't hover though.....yet.
@@AtomicSnackBar and he's kind of beat up too

👏👏👏 Best art content on the internet
Too kind of you, good sir.
Cool to see Maximilian there from the Black Hole on your list,, that was one sinister looking robot!
He sure was. Especially in that final scene with all the fire.

As I said elsewhere, Godzilla vs Megalon was the first Godzilla movie that I saw in a theater and Jet is great. I especially love his MST3K theme song.
Roddy is one of my all-time favorite actors. From PotA all the way to Fright Night, he was just wonderful in everything he did.

Good pics, but it's missing the shape-shifting geometric basement monstrosity from Demon Seed.
We here at Wacky World Inc. will deeply into this matter and consider said monstrosity for the sequel episode.

I definitely had a few of the black hole toys but they were only the robots and they were super detailed compared to Kenner
That's cool. I would have loved those as a lad.
If a person hasn't seen Star Wars, they probably aren't watching any of my videos.
in the future we need to be robots and also have laser eyes
I'm already a robot.
They were out of laser eyes though.
I just have one X-ray eye and one 3D eye.

No need to tell you she was married to Judd Hamilton who played Elle the robot with that quirky western accent.
And that should be Mattel!!
@@TsiolkovskySportingLocks So they were very close in release. Interesting.
@@AtomicSnackBar exceptionally btw the music, which was composed for the quiz show is called Approaching Menance. :) And has been likened to a drunk man falling down the stairs. Seems an odd choice for an advert ad yet it does work really well.
@@TsiolkovskySportingLocks Perhaps the Ding-a-lings were far more sinister than we ever knew.
I don't recall what I said, but we play fast and loose with the rules around these parts. It's a lawless land, the Snack Bar.
@@AtomicSnackBarSpoiler for a movie in the 70's.
Well, you said cyborgs can't be on the list.
@@cycoholic Well, yeah, you got me there.
@@AtomicSnackBar lol. No matter. You have a RUclips channel. I don't. 🤣
Love Caroline Munro ♥
One of the all-time greats. One of my favorite Sinbad ladies as well.
Maximillian looks like he already works for the Empire. He would fit right at home next to the Imperial Guard.
@@AtomicSnackBar yeah I don't know why I didn't make him a super Empire Droid for them cuz they did look a lot alike
I'm so stupid I'm sorry I must have been in the bathroom the last time I watched this now you're saying the same exact thing I just said my apologies
No worries at all. I brushed by that really quickly anyway.
Down low. I really hate autocorrect.
@@tonysantiago255 It is a shame though that Don Bluth's country didn't work out. It would have been a nice place to live.
When you think about blackbird seems to be an homage to forbidden planet
Do tell.
They also change the robot so that they would have full rights over it.... Toho that is
That sounds like Toho.
Hey Starbucks mobile pleasant cross between the droids
