So you're telling me Alex Karev left his wife and best friend without notice to get back with his ex wife, Izzie, who literally did the exact same thing to him? Yeah, I'm not buying that.

The thing is, it made sense when Izzie left, they were only married cause she thought she was going to die and she needed space after her cancer and death of her best friend. Alex leaving Jo for Izzie is the dumbest choice ever and completely ignores his character development. To be honest it seems like the choice was made for Jo and her fear of abandonment, this way people can eventually like it if she is paired with someone else because she was screwed over by her ex. This choice works for characters there for a season or two like Riggs but not at all for characters who have gone through 16 seasons of character development like Alex. They really screwed up here and honestly as an Izzie fan I don't think she would get back with Alex.
Noah Reisner no they didnt screw up. all of this is very believable and fine and it all makes sense. alex grew up without a proper family so him leaving to be with one that izzie has been raising makes perfect sense. regardless, justin chambers left in the middle of the season,and they didnt have the timing for a proper goodbye like with cristina. justin refused so this is the best they could do and i’m here for it
totally agree if they had done it 2 seasons ago when he and Jo had split and he attacked deluca it would have fit better but not now when his marriage and career were damn near perfect. I understand Justin chambers left in a rush but it still just sucks bring some one back lol

His whole character was based on his upbringing and the fact that his dad left him so of course once he found out he was a dad that he would be there for them and he knew that Jo would eventually understand due to her upbringing and he could come back it’s not like they killed him off and tbf after recent events it wouldn’t surprised me if they brought both Izzie and Alex back
It’s almost like the producers were so mad at the actor for leaving that they did his character so dirty. There is no other logical explanation as to why they’d destroy a character after carefully building him for 15 years. I’m glad I stopped watching the show.

This show should’ve ended a long time ago. I stopped watching it because the storylines was just all over the place. I’ll take the older seasons over this crap. They need to go back to being doctors with impossible cases and fixing people. Not love triangles, sister/brothers in law dating, etc. this show is 🗑 now....

I too stopped watching the show after Cristina left. It’s been such a hiatus and now after learning about Alex’s departure and how unfair it must’ve been to Jo, I’m once again, crying. Crying because Izzie left Alex. She did that, and then went to have their children witHOUT telling Alex? That was kind of messed up in itself. To top it off, Alex doesn’t come back for an in-person goodbye at least (and Meredith)?! Jo was his person through thick and thin. Marriage is a choice. He did that with Jo and Jo’s love is/was unwavering. Whereas Izzie did not even strongly consider staying by Alex’s side and just left. Whoever did the writing knew what uproar this would cause to an original cast member.
They could have at least invited Katherine Heigl and Justin Chambers for that episode. I would have loved to see Alex's reaction. It's low-key unsatisfying to only hear of Alex being with Izzie instead of showing them talk
I think Justin Chambers wouldn't have done it. I think something went terribly wrong when an actor exists a show that dramatically without a farewell episode but I think the should've killed him because that's not him.

Jo did not deserve that. She has been through so much, her childhood, her ex-husband, her mom, and after all that she trusted Alex. She did not deserve that at all. Meredith and her kids didn't deserve that. Alex was such a big part of their lives, he was Meredith's person and he loved her kids, so did they. They did not deserve that and most importantly, his character did not deserve the ending that he got. He was a coward in the beginning, but the person that he became would never have done that. He would have atleast said goodbye to them in person, not through a letter.

If Alex had only given Jo a face to face departure it would have been so much better. Even if they did not show the conversation to the viewers. Ending his relationship with Jo in a letter was just cruel. I don't hate Alex with Izzie but I hate the way Jo was treated. And why would Meredith even be a factor in such an important decision in his life? Who makes life decisions based on their friends? I have seen "how could Alex leave Meredith" in the comments and I don't get it. Cristina left, what is the difference? And she left the country.
Raephaele Masirnille wow. This makes no sense at all. I’ve always liked the character of Izzie and it seemed she was Alex’s true love. But he is married to Jo. I can understand why everyone is in an uproar.
I would rather see him join Yang at Swiss than going to Izzie. Atleast Jo & him can still have a long distance rship but when he returns back to Izzie, totally shut the door for Jo & ruined his character for 16 freaking seasons.
It didn’t ruin his character it was a good thing because he left to be with his Kids. He wants to be a better father than his. He gave up his happiness with Jo so that his kids would have a dad who was there.
Two years later and this is still one of the worst send offs for a character in television history. Having Alex leave everyone behind for Izzie and finding out he was having an emotional affair with her during Meredith’s trial undoes 15 years worth of character development and growth

This has been one of the saddest episodes of this show. Meredith's letter was the most emotional one for me. Everything he said on that letter was sooo true about Mer and the relationship they both had.
Remember when Alex was like a brother to Meredith and stayed with Jo and helped her remove depression?. Remember how angry and sad he was when Izzie left her? Because the writers don't.
Yes, I did cry when Alex said “I’m never leaving you, you know that?” to mer and all the memories thrown out the window like it’s just some cheap necklace and it’s some how repairable by letters, really LETTERS.

Just finished watching this episode. Im numb, i cant move. I loved alex, he was funny, kind, gracious, out-going, and a great person in general. I never imagined him leaving. I don't know what else to say. I'm lost for words. I hope he's happy with izzie, eli and alexis. He deserves everything this world has to offer. Goodbye alex. Will never forget you💔

And I would have been fine with Alex dying, being in a coma or even if he went missing. But him leaving Joe for Izzie!? After he said he wouldn't leave her just ruined his character for me.

Izzy was his greatest love. and with the upbringing Alex had, he did not want the same for his own children. he has always loved Izzy, and she has got his kids, so he made one choice that was difficult, but sensible. yes, he loves Jo. but the kids weighed more heavily when it came to choosing between Jo and Izzy. You who say it makes no sense should watch all the episodes from season 5 again. which is about Alex and his background. so maybe one light comes up for you. The choice Alex made shows good writing skills and that he has grown as a person, while retaining his true self.
Madzi-Radzi Not true considering season 14 episode 7. Joe urged Alex to call izzie, but alex told joe they he doesn’t need to, and that he picture Izzie in a house filled with the smell of muffin, kids and a husband. If Alex did not have that convo with Jo, I would have believed it more that Alex had linger feelings, but when your feeling for your ex is all blessing without the urgency to stay in part of there life, you have truly moved on. Alex had moved on for a long long time. When Alex told Izzie that he deserved better, he had moved on.
@@floralee1645 what you refer to now is called denial, it was a conversation that I personally never believed in. based on experiences from other series and real-life events. The reason he didn't want to call her and talk to her was because he was afraid of what he learned in a conversation / confrontation with Izzie. It is so clear in between the lines. It is typical behavior for people, with his background. to escape from the reality one is afraid of. this conclusion shows how much he has grown as a person. even though the conversation came from helping Meredith in the trial. He managed to break out of the wall he had built from childhood to protect himself. it was clearly stated in the letters he wrote.
Like okay cool everyone being mad and acting like it’s so bad. But unpopular opinion: I liked it and the thought of him being with Izzy is a good ending. I am pretty sure they didn’t know for a long time that he is leaving the show . For me it was a great episode . izzie is his first great love, it is the first person who loved him, who integrated him with Meredith, Christina and George when they did not like him, it was her who made him better, what he lived with her he did not live with anyone let's be honest, years later when he saw someone who looked like her or that someone told him about her so that he was turned upside down upside he’s with Jo, we talk about Jo as the perfect woman but let's not forget that she was ready to leave him in prison so that we don't discover her story with her husband
I actually loved the way his story ended❤️ the way Alex loved Izzie was not the same with jo. Through out the years Alex was still in love with izzie and he got everything he ever wanted.

If you where a true Grey's anatomy fan you would know Alex's biggest fear was being like his father in every single aspect. So when he found out he was a father he ran into his dream and responsability. Besides deep down we all knew he couldnt forget Izzie. She was the soulmate that knew him at his worst, and at his best, she pushed him to develop his character and the way he saw things. Jo was just easy, it was easy to breath to laugh to joke until it was not, and we can tell the difference when both broke up. Alex texted, called, cried, ran down sets of stairs, was bewildered with sadness for her and with Jo is not the same fight. So can we all be greatfull he is HAPPY after all the crappy life hes had???
Idk what im feeling. I ship Izzex and were the most. Then we got Jo and she stole my heart, jolex show me about real love and second chances. There is always a broken heart in the end.. I have to admit it, im so happy for alex and his family with izzie, and their kids. Its beautiful. But Jo? She didnt deserve to be in pain again, why is this so heartbreaking? 😭💔
I agree Jo does not deserve this ending to her marriage. But I must admit there is a loyalty to the original cast that Jo is not a part of. Anybody who came in after the Mercy West residents (Jackson & April's group) never resonated with me. Even though I really like Jo I'm not hating Alex getting back with Izzie I only hate the way he went about it. But if that's where his heart is that's where he needs to be.
She could have written a storyline where Izzie's cancer is back and she's dying. Alex and Jo could have mutually parted ways while still loving each other as Jo wasn't ready to be a mother. Anything other than this trash that Krista came up with.
When viewers first met Alex Karev he was an ass, mean, a jerk and immature. He was cold and rude. Nobody liked him. Overtime we saw Alex grow into a man. A friend. A surgeon. Alex grew into being likeable and respected. Alex Karev had the best character development on the show. There is no way Alex would ever leave Meredith. Alex is Meredith's person. There is also no way that Alex would leave Jo the exact same way Izzie left him 10 seasons ago. Krista is a horrible writer and showrunner. She is ruining Grey's Anatomy
See, I'm not understanding why people keep saying "Alex would never leave Meredith". How does Meredith for into his life decision? Cristina left to follow her dream. Why would Alex even consider not raising his kids because of his friendship with Meredith? His wife should have been his only consideration. What am I missing?
Why do people keep forgetting that this amazing character development everyone loves so much actually started with and was heavily influenced by Izzie? She was literally the first one to see the good in him and give him a chance. He didn't just grow because he grew, in a huge way he grew for and because of Izzie. He literally said so himself. Anyone who loves his character development should at least be able to acknowledge Izzie's part in it.
I also don't hate it. Same with my group of friends. We're really in the minority though. If he had to go, and we know he did, I'm happy he went there and we can imagine him happy.

The only part that keeps me from saying he should’ve stayed with Jo and just co-parented is that he still loves Izzie and he doesn’t want his kids to grow up in a broken home. He wanted the whole package and it was waiting for him in another state. I’m so torn.
I cried my eyes out THE ENTIRE EPISODE! more so because this happens in real life. We don’t get to know why, we don’t get to chose what happens to us. All the challenges and hurting we face in this life we learn to live with it. This is reality, we never expect what comes out way. And this is that, Alex leaving everything behind is unfair, but then again so Is life. Life will always be unexpected. Just gotta deal with it all and move on. Those kids deserve a dad, and they have one. He did the right thing.

I'd rather Derek leave Meredith and be alive than Alex leave. We don't get to know why is a perfect reason to kill someone. He was on enough planes and other vehicles to have a spontaneous and unexpected death. This show been grasping for straws every since Katherine Avery aka Debbie Allen got more straws at least to me anyway. The golden jewel that this show used to be is a distant memory now. Anyway you are right @wendy duarte when I leave no one gets to know why enjoy whatever the remainder of this show is.
Justin leaving the show made it impossible to end Alex Karev properly. For me,this was THE BEST ending for Alex instead of killing me in some stupid tragedy. People may not realise this,but this is how Izzie Stevens left the show and Alex in the beginning. I hope Jo finds someone again just like how Alex found Jo after Izzie left him ❤️
I love this show... I met my wife in 04’, my Sunday nights started together w two new shows. Greys and Housewives... 16 years later am still watching Greys, and our kids 13 and 11, started binge watching Greys three weeks ago. Respect.
That was not a good exit at all. Alex and Jo had more than 5 years of relationship. Like Meredith said at their wedding, they both did bring out the good in each other and became better persons and surgeons. They both supported each other in hard times. Alex and Izzie were together like may be an year and it was messy. This just simply doesn't make any sense at all! Grey's anatomy was never shy of killing people away when they had to exit so I really don't get why they didn't do the same to Alex, as bad as it sounds it would have been a better ending of the character! 🙄
A better ending would be to have killed izzie off when she had cancer and then Alex and jo would do long distance relationship and Alex would still talk to mer and jo would still be in a relationship. It would have been perfect

I agree the ended wasn't all that but they did have a lot of history (Alex and Izzie) and he always wanted to be with her, I mean we all seen the flash backs. we aren’t mad that he left the show it’s just the way his character left and how abrupt it was, we’ve watched him for 16 seasons and we all know that him and jo have been through so much and jos been traumatized before and alex knew that more than anyone, he left without warning, to a woman that left him.
As soon as I saw 'Alex Karev' on Jo's letter, my eyes got watery. I saw 'Evil Spawn' on Mer's and I began crying throughout the whole darn episode while crying and laughing at the same time on certain parts like some weirdo. I'm not sure why they decided to end it this way, but I'm happy that he's not dead and they at least gave an entire episode on him. Hearing his voice just made me super emotional because he was one of my favorite characters (like aside from Lexi and Cristina) and he grew so much 😭 he will be missed dearly.

One of my dreams for the TV show was this one.. I still just can't believe it.. finally shonda.. one thing right.. I just wanted to have the opportunity to see the real characters together in the episode. But I used to Love Izzie and her ways and her heart, everything that she's been through.. she deserved him.. and now They Are a Family.
I'm just gonna voice my unpopular opinion. I liked Alex' ending. I always wanted him to be with Izzie. I was forever dreaming about her coming back and having his kids. The only sad thing is they didn't get the actors back for the episode. But I loved it though. I can really imagine Alex living like this, he has always loved kids. No question he could never leave his own kids behind, now that he found out they exist. And Izzie is the love of his life and I think he never really got over her. And the fact that she named her baby girl Alexis tells me Izzie might feel the same. So I'm still sad that Alex is gone but I'm happy with his closure.

Seasons ago he wouldn’t have cared. He grew up and understands he has to make the adult decision and care for his kids. And he literally said if it were just about izzie he would’ve walked away but it’s not just about her. He’s staying for his kids and I think that makes so much sense for him. And the not saying bye and just leaving jo isn’t his fault! Well the characters anyway. Justin didn’t want to do another episode to properly kill him off or anything and the writers knew they had to be delicate about it as to not affect jo’s mental health this season. They did the best they could with the actor leaving so abruptly
That's what I'm saying! Alex became a better person because of Izzie, Jo just took over the ready product that maybe needed some polishing. Also, anyone who doesn't see that he never loved Jo the way he loved Izzie probably needs to get their eyes checked. Izzie was it for him, always.
i mean i've always thoght that Izzie was Alex's true love, but after everything that had happended between the two of them i thought that their story was over and there was no coming back, also Krista put it as if one day Alex woke up and next thing he knew he had children with Izzie...it just doesn't make sense it's clear thet she made it up last minute and didn't even bother to give such an iconic character a decent ending after 15 years. at least they could explain what happened how he came to know the news and also why Izzie stayed silent for 8 years and suddenly all of this came up. and let's not talk about how he left Jo, our Alex would have never and we all know it. i'm really disappointed Alex's character had so much potential i think never in tv history there's been a character with such a beautiful and ispiring personal growth. i don't think i'll come back to watch the show, the downfall of the show in my opinion had begun when Christina left and it got worse with season 11 in general, derek's death of curse and lastly when Arizona and April left...Krista just ruined a beutiful tv series that has been so iconic for all this years

I am not watching the show right know but I used too and I really liked Izzie. In fact, I prefer Izzie with Alex but I understand why people are mad. But I guess that's life. He wants to be with his children and maybe he can be happy with Izzie. They will be the first couple to have a happy ending because MerDer, Mark and Lexie, Japril didn't have one...
I actually have mixed feelings about Alex's departure. It was so wonderful seeing all the old clips of past episodes when Grey's was such a great show. I think most people have a problem with Alex breaking Jo's heart. If Alex were single I think I would be happy with Izzie and Alex reuniting. But he has treated Jo so badly it's hard to be happy for him. I can only guess the writers were trying something different than killing off so many characters when they leave the show. But they could have come up with something like a great job opportunity out of state and if Jo chose not to go it would have been her choice. They could have done the long distance thing. I think the show is ending next year. Any ending would have been better than making Alex look so bad.
Agree i loved it, it is great they are finally together it woud have being cool to see Katherine once more but i am ok not seeing them and just the kids.
I honestly didn’t mind the way he left , but it would’ve been more of Alex was actually present for the farewell. Like his letter said he took the easy way out , something his character grew out of . Alex and Meredith deserved one last moment , and seeing Izzie would’ve been a proper send off to her character as well .

There were literally so many signs over the years that Alex was absolutely still in love with Izzie and that she'd always be his first choice. Sucks for Jo, but that's the truth and it's always been portrayed that way. That deep, desperate kind of love he had for Izzie just wasn't there when he was with Jo. He never had that same protective mode over her, never appreciated her the way he absolutely adored Izzie and everything she represented in his eyes. So I love the fact that he went back to be with the love of his life, even if there wasn't enough time to make this storyline play out more naturally.

I heard my heart shattering for jo 😭😭😭 I’d rather have Alex, my favorite intern from the MAGIC generation, BLEEDING OUT in an OR than have him leave for nuisance like Izzy. I grew up with grey‘s and damn I could never grasp how selfish Izzy actually was until I rewatched it. If they hadn’t killed jo‘s ex he could’ve just killed Alex and go to jail or death sentence and this would lead into jo‘s story line BUT NO now shonda will make her hook up with her best friend Link and repeat the George and Izzy storyline all over again BUT there will be Amelia‘s Baby involved this time so very very great I can understand why Justin left his story line with pac north was pathetic

I am personally thrilled that Alex went back in time to Izzie and his two children. It reminded me that the show was once magically. After Christina left and Derek died, this show has been struggling with unappealing characters and storylines. I cried tears of joy last night knowing that Alex and Izzie are together and happy and their love was frozen in time and still strong. Jo will move on. Jo just doesn't possess any magic of the original cast. The show should probably end within a few more years. All the best characters are long gone. Even Meredith has lost her magically spark she once had. It would be best to rebuild this show with much better characters and storylines. Return to the magic that once was or just watch the re-runs.
From the beginning of the show, I thought Alex Karev was gonna be famous Villain, but instead he became a gifted-talented extraordinary person like Meredith, Cristina and Izzie..also George😭
They should've just killed him off. Tragic but at least it wouldn't have reconnected all his character growth. It's stuff like this which is why I stopped watching the show.
Years later, I've gone through EVERY scenario which would make the best possible exit for Alex while giving us a sort of an happy ending. Unpopular opinion but this is the best exit for me. Everyone says to the hell and back for Alex leaving Jo, that I understand. But YOU have to understand that Justin Chambers just gave the writers almost NO notice when he left. They couldn't have him to film some possible exit scenes. We needed a reason as to why Alex would leave Jo. Just for Africa? Arizona kinda did. For war? April kinda did. New York? Callie kinda did. Alex loved Jo but his one true love was and is always gonna be Izzie. This is the best exit for me considering Justin's circumstances, and it also gives us an explanation to whatever happened to Izzie since she left Seattle Grace. Seeing what Jo has been up to now, I'd have to say that Camilla Luddington as Jo has been freed storywise. Like Meredith came so far since Derek's death.
Personally, I think this was a good sendoff episode for Alex. I didn't expect him going back to Izzie but it's better than killing him off. This way he might make an appearance if anything happens to Meredith or if the show is ending.
AHHHHHHH! Damn it! I miss him already! When I first watched this show I thought I was going to hate Alex Karev but now... seeing everything and what he has done.... He’s an amazing character. I’m gonna miss him... so much 😩😩😩
I liked he got back together with Izzie. They deserved a happy ending after all they went through. I stopped watching after Merder was no longer a option. Oddly enough, Teddy’s character brought me back in and I’m glad I stuck around :)

I can see Alex walking away without notice. I mean, he loves Izzie too. You can't rationalize love. Wanna talk about character development? He's a father of two and soon-to-be chief of pediatric surgeon ffs. As a matter of fact, Alex ending is brilliant. Grey's writers combined Alex's storyline perfectly. If that's not dedication, I don't know what is.
How Shonda could have done this? The way how he left Jo and Meredith without notice them without notice anybody it can’t be, the old Alex would do it, but Alex has change a LOT through these years and he would never do that.
When first heard Izzie Stevens I SCREAMED😀😀 and I was hoping that she will appear on screen with Alex along with the children. OH WELL! I'm so glad that they got back together. 💜💚💜💚💜👏.
I think this is the perfect ending to Alex. I mean he really loved Jo but never like he loved Izzie. He didn't moved to Kansas just because he had kids, he moved to Kansas because he still loved Izzie he was in love with Izzie all this time, all this 10 years. Jo deserves better? Yes she does I'm sorry for her but she will find someone who will love her madly (just like Alex loves Izzie) and this is not the first character in this show that can have a better couple that his ex, what about Addison now she is happy with a new couple. I liked izziex from the beginning it was very sad when Izzie left but this reunion and this ending is very good I really liked. So sad the productors couldn't meet with Justin and Katherine that would made a really big difference in this episode and close both character stories with the best ending. #izziexendgame #worththewait
Everyone is saying how Alex wouldn’t do this. But sometimes it takes living a life to realize that you have done your part in the lives of those who needed you and now you have the chance to forge your own path and find the love you once lost. It takes a strong person to leave the comfort and safety of their home to go make a new home with someone they believe will make them truly happy. Don’t hate on the character or creators for allowing Alex to start a life where he will be happy with his first real love.
I get that some people are happy with how this turned out and that's perfectly fine. But there's no way to romanticize this. Alex is now cheater and liar who didn't even have the decency to have a face to face conversation with his wife before ending things with her, his wife who he just remarried and has had enough abandonment and trauma to last her a lifetime. There's no strength in that. And this is now the second marriage that Izzie has helped destroy (third if you count her marriage to Alex that she walked out on). I just don't see anything beautiful in this. And, as much as I loved Alex & Izzie, I can't pretend that she hasn't been gone for 10 years or that Alex hasn't been deeply in love with Jo for 8 of those 10 years. This endgame needed more than letters and flashbacks to make me believe it and it deserved more than turning two beloved characters into cheaters. I don't hate the writers, but I do feel like they deserve a lot of the criticisms that they're getting because they have a long habit of writing out characters poorly.
(Please don't leave any hate, you can disagree, but please don't hate.) I want to say that I'm disappointed. I want to say that I don't see Alex acting this way. But, I do for the reason he does. Not Izzie. Not just leaving. But because of those two children that are his and Izzie's. If it was only Nostalgia of what might've been or what was, I don't think Alex would have left his life, his marriage and his career back in Grey-Sloan. But he has two children with Izzie Stevens. And personally, that was the one thing that Richard got wrong. Richard was married to Adele. Fell in love with Ellis Grey. Had a child, for God's sake. And still went back to a life in a marriage where Adele was always hovering over him. Alex called Izzie when he needed a letter, and Alex got to talking to Izzie about her life and Their children. He had to go see them. It wouldn't be like Alex to not go see them. And he saw them, and they called him Dad. I love Alex and Jo together. Because Jo made him a better human being, a better man, a better surgeon. Jo did that. But, his children will impact his life in a different way. And honestly, so will Izzie. We needed closure for that part of Grey's. And they gave us closure. And I get it, why everyone is hating this. But, I don't think they did wrong by Alex Karev. Leaving Seattle to be a great dad for His kids. For as much as we've seen from Alex, the way he's a Peds doctor. The way he is with kids. The way he loves and he is. Alex Karev deserves an ending. A happy one. And yes, that doesn't mean that Jo should be hurt in the process. But she will move past the darkness and turn it into light because that is who she is. She uses all the darkness that surrounds her and turns it into her strength. Jo will be fine. I truly believe that. So with that, Goodbye Alex Karev. You will truly be missed.
I'm watching from the beginning and I'm on season 6 and I can totally believe he'd be with Izzie. I haven't met Jo yet but who cares? Yes, Alex loved Jo but he loved Izzie more and was his soulmate. Jo and Alex were not. If they were, they would have had a child that would have lived and would have been happy together but that didn't happen. Alex and Izzie always loved each other as each other's true loves. Now, Alex and Izzie can be there for each other as well as Eli and Alexis(the twins). Boo hoo, Jo's all sad. Who cares?
I may be wrong, but I feel like the assassination of Alex's character has something to do with the writers being pissed off that Justin left, so they decided to give him such a horrible character send off.

The thing is, it made sense when Izzie left, they were only married cause she thought she was going to die and she needed space after her cancer and death of her best friend. Alex leaving Jo for Izzie is the dumbest choice ever and completely ignores his character development. To be honest it seems like the choice was made for Jo and her fear of abandonment, this way people can eventually like it if she is paired with someone else because she was screwed over by her ex. This choice works for characters there for a season or two like Riggs but not at all for characters who have gone through 16 seasons of character development like Alex. They really screwed up here and honestly as an Izzie fan I don't think she would get back with Alex.

Noah Reisner no they didnt screw up. all of this is very believable and fine and it all makes sense. alex grew up without a proper family so him leaving to be with one that izzie has been raising makes perfect sense. regardless, justin chambers left in the middle of the season,and they didnt have the timing for a proper goodbye like with cristina. justin refused so this is the best they could do and i’m here for it

This show should’ve ended a long time ago. I stopped watching it because the storylines was just all over the place. I’ll take the older seasons over this crap. They need to go back to being doctors with impossible cases and fixing people. Not love triangles, sister/brothers in law dating, etc. this show is 🗑 now....

I too stopped watching the show after Cristina left. It’s been such a hiatus and now after learning about Alex’s departure and how unfair it must’ve been to Jo, I’m once again, crying. Crying because Izzie left Alex. She did that, and then went to have their children witHOUT telling Alex? That was kind of messed up in itself. To top it off, Alex doesn’t come back for an in-person goodbye at least (and Meredith)?! Jo was his person through thick and thin. Marriage is a choice. He did that with Jo and Jo’s love is/was unwavering. Whereas Izzie did not even strongly consider staying by Alex’s side and just left. Whoever did the writing knew what uproar this would cause to an original cast member.
They could have at least invited Katherine Heigl and Justin Chambers for that episode. I would have loved to see Alex's reaction. It's low-key unsatisfying to only hear of Alex being with Izzie instead of showing them talk
I think Justin Chambers wouldn't have done it. I think something went terribly wrong when an actor exists a show that dramatically without a farewell episode but I think the should've killed him because that's not him.

Jo did not deserve that. She has been through so much, her childhood, her ex-husband, her mom, and after all that she trusted Alex. She did not deserve that at all. Meredith and her kids didn't deserve that. Alex was such a big part of their lives, he was Meredith's person and he loved her kids, so did they. They did not deserve that and most importantly, his character did not deserve the ending that he got. He was a coward in the beginning, but the person that he became would never have done that. He would have atleast said goodbye to them in person, not through a letter.

If Alex had only given Jo a face to face departure it would have been so much better. Even if they did not show the conversation to the viewers. Ending his relationship with Jo in a letter was just cruel. I don't hate Alex with Izzie but I hate the way Jo was treated. And why would Meredith even be a factor in such an important decision in his life? Who makes life decisions based on their friends? I have seen "how could Alex leave Meredith" in the comments and I don't get it. Cristina left, what is the difference? And she left the country.

It didn’t ruin his character it was a good thing because he left to be with his Kids. He wants to be a better father than his. He gave up his happiness with Jo so that his kids would have a dad who was there.

and with the upbringing Alex had, he did not want the same for his own children. he has always loved Izzy, and she has got his kids, so he made one choice that was difficult, but sensible. yes, he loves Jo. but the kids weighed more heavily when it came to choosing between Jo and Izzy. You who say it makes no sense should watch all the episodes from season 5 again. which is about Alex and his background. so maybe one light comes up for you. The choice Alex made shows good writing skills and that he has grown as a person, while retaining his true self.

Not true considering season 14 episode 7. Joe urged Alex to call izzie, but alex told joe they he doesn’t need to, and that he picture Izzie in a house filled with the smell of muffin, kids and a husband. If Alex did not have that convo with Jo, I would have believed it more that Alex had linger feelings, but when your feeling for your ex is all blessing without the urgency to stay in part of there life, you have truly moved on.
Alex had moved on for a long long time. When Alex told Izzie that he deserved better, he had moved on.

I am pretty sure they didn’t know for a long time that he is leaving the show . For me it was a great episode . I rllllly liked karev but no matter how they would’ve ended Karevs story still all of u would’ve been upset and annoying.so here I am : thank u greys and I hope this show will be on tv for at least 10 more seasons and pls don’t stop producing this amazing show. I actually loved the way his story ended❤️ the way Alex loved Izzie was not the same with jo. Through out the years Alex was still in love with izzie and he got everything he ever wanted.

If you where a true Grey's anatomy fan you would know Alex's biggest fear was being like his father in every single aspect. So when he found out he was a father he ran into his dream and responsability. Besides deep down we all knew he couldnt forget Izzie. She was the soulmate that knew him at his worst, and at his best, she pushed him to develop his character and the way he saw things. Jo was just easy, it was easy to breath to laugh to joke until it was not, and we can tell the difference when both broke up. Alex texted, called, cried, ran down sets of stairs, was bewildered with sadness for her and with Jo is not the same fight. So can we all be greatfull he is HAPPY after all the crappy life hes had???

I agree Jo does not deserve this ending to her marriage. But I must admit there is a loyalty to the original cast that Jo is not a part of. Anybody who came in after the Mercy West residents (Jackson & April's group) never resonated with me. Even though I really like Jo I'm not hating Alex getting back with Izzie I only hate the way he went about it. But if that's where his heart is that's where he needs to be.

She could have written a storyline where Izzie's cancer is back and she's dying. Alex and Jo could have mutually parted ways while still loving each other as Jo wasn't ready to be a mother. Anything other than this trash that Krista came up with.

See, I'm not understanding why people keep saying "Alex would never leave Meredith". How does Meredith for into his life decision? Cristina left to follow her dream. Why would Alex even consider not raising his kids because of his friendship with Meredith? His wife should have been his only consideration. What am I missing?
Why do people keep forgetting that this amazing character development everyone loves so much actually started with and was heavily influenced by Izzie? She was literally the first one to see the good in him and give him a chance. He didn't just grow because he grew, in a huge way he grew for and because of Izzie. He literally said so himself. Anyone who loves his character development should at least be able to acknowledge Izzie's part in it.
I am happy with this ending Izzie was always the love of his life.
I also don't hate it. Same with my group of friends. We're really in the minority though. If he had to go, and we know he did, I'm happy he went there and we can imagine him happy.

The only part that keeps me from saying he should’ve stayed with Jo and just co-parented is that he still loves Izzie and he doesn’t want his kids to grow up in a broken home. He wanted the whole package and it was waiting for him in another state. I’m so torn.

I cried my eyes out THE ENTIRE EPISODE! more so because this happens in real life. We don’t get to know why, we don’t get to chose what happens to us. All the challenges and hurting we face in this life we learn to live with it. This is reality, we never expect what comes out way. And this is that, Alex leaving everything behind is unfair, but then again so Is life. Life will always be unexpected. Just gotta deal with it all and move on. Those kids deserve a dad, and they have one. He did the right thing.

I'd rather Derek leave Meredith and be alive than Alex leave. We don't get to know why is a perfect reason to kill someone. He was on enough planes and other vehicles to have a spontaneous and unexpected death. This show been grasping for straws every since Katherine Avery aka Debbie Allen got more straws at least to me anyway. The golden jewel that this show used to be is a distant memory now. Justin leaving the show made it impossible to end Alex Karev properly. For me,this was THE BEST ending for Alex instead of killing me in some stupid tragedy. People may not realise this,but this is how Izzie Stevens left the show and Alex in the beginning. I hope Jo finds someone again just like how Alex found Jo after Izzie left him ❤️

I love this show... I met my wife in 04’, my Sunday nights started together w two new shows. Greys and Housewives... 16 years later am still watching Greys, and our kids 13 and 11, started binge watching Greys three weeks ago. Respect.
That was not a good exit at all. Alex and Jo had more than 5 years of relationship. Like Meredith said at their wedding, they both did bring out the good in each other and became better persons and surgeons. They both supported each other in hard times. Alex and Izzie were together like may be an year and it was messy. This just simply doesn't make any sense at all! Grey's anatomy was never shy of killing people away when they had to exit so I really don't get why they didn't do the same to Alex, as bad as it sounds it would have been a better ending of the character! 🙄

I agree the ended wasn't all that but they did have a lot of history (Alex and Izzie) and he always wanted to be with her, I mean we all seen the flash backs. But I do admit leaving his current wife behind and writing a letter is pretty Messed up
we aren’t mad that he left the show it’s just the way his character left and how abrupt it was, we’ve watched him for 16 seasons and we all know that him and jo have been through so much and jos been traumatized before and alex knew that more than anyone, he left without warning, to a woman that left him.
As soon as I saw 'Alex Karev' on Jo's letter, my eyes got watery. I saw 'Evil Spawn' on Mer's and I began crying throughout the whole darn episode while crying and laughing at the same time on certain parts like some weirdo. I'm not sure why they decided to end it this way, but I'm happy that he's not dead and they at least gave an entire episode on him. Hearing his voice just made me super emotional because he was one of my favorite characters (like aside from Lexi and Cristina) and he grew so much 😭 he will be missed dearly.

One of my dreams for the TV show was this one.. I still just can't believe it.. finally shonda.. one thing right.. I just wanted to have the opportunity to see the real characters together in the episode. But I used to Love Izzie and her ways and her heart, everything that she's been through.. she deserved him.. and now They Are a Family.
I'm just gonna voice my unpopular opinion. I liked Alex' ending. I always wanted him to be with Izzie. I was forever dreaming about her coming back and having his kids. The only sad thing is they didn't get the actors back for the episode. But I loved it though. I can really imagine Alex living like this, he has always loved kids. No question he could never leave his own kids behind, now that he found out they exist. And Izzie is the love of his life and I think he never really got over her. And the fact that she named her baby girl Alexis tells me Izzie might feel the same. So I'm still sad that Alex is gone but I'm happy with his closure.
So it's okay that Jo got screwed over in the process and probably won't be able to trust anyone in that way again

Seasons ago he wouldn’t have cared. He grew up and understands he has to make the adult decision and care for his kids. And he literally said if it were just about izzie he would’ve walked away but it’s not just about her. He’s staying for his kids and I think that makes so much sense for him. And the not saying bye and just leaving jo isn’t his fault! Well the characters anyway. Justin didn’t want to do another episode to properly kill him off or anything and the writers knew they had to be delicate about it as to not affect jo’s mental health this season. They did the best they could with the actor leaving so abruptly
That's what I'm saying! Alex became a better person because of Izzie, Jo just took over the ready product that maybe needed some polishing. Also, anyone who doesn't see that he never loved Jo the way he loved Izzie probably needs to get their eyes checked. Izzie was it for him, always.

i mean i've always thoght that Izzie was Alex's true love, but after everything that had happended between the two of them i thought that their story was over and there was no coming back, also Krista put it as if one day Alex woke up and next thing he knew he had children with Izzie...it just doesn't make sense it's clear thet she made it up last minute and didn't even bother to give such an iconic character a decent ending after 15 years.
at least they could explain what happened how he came to know the news and also why Izzie stayed silent for 8 years and suddenly all of this came up. and let's not talk about how he left Jo, our Alex would have never and we all know it.

I am not watching the show right know but I used too and I really liked Izzie. In fact, I prefer Izzie with Alex but I understand why people are mad. But I guess that's life. He wants to be with his children and maybe he can be happy with Izzie. They will be the first couple to have a happy ending because MerDer, Mark and Lexie, Japril didn't have one...
I actually have mixed feelings about Alex's departure. It was so wonderful seeing all the old clips of past episodes when Grey's was such a great show. I think most people have a problem with Alex breaking Jo's heart. If Alex were single I think I would be happy with Izzie and Alex reuniting. But he has treated Jo so badly it's hard to be happy for him. I can only guess the writers were trying something different than killing off so many characters when they leave the show. But they could have come up with something like a great job opportunity out of state and if Jo chose not to go it would have been her choice. They could have done the long distance thing. I think the show is ending next year. Any ending would have been better than making Alex look so bad.

I honestly didn’t mind the way he left , but it would’ve been more of Alex was actually present for the farewell. Like his letter said he took the easy way out , something his character grew out of . Alex and Meredith deserved one last moment , and seeing Izzie would’ve been a proper send off to her character as well .

There were literally so many signs over the years that Alex was absolutely still in love with Izzie and that she'd always be his first choice. Sucks for Jo, but that's the truth and it's always been portrayed that way. That deep, desperate kind of love he had for Izzie just wasn't there when he was with Jo. He never had that same protective mode over her, never appreciated her the way he absolutely adored Izzie and everything she represented in his eyes. So I love the fact that he went back to be with the love of his life, even if there wasn't enough time to make this storyline play out more naturally.

If they hadn’t killed jo‘s ex he could’ve just killed Alex and go to jail or death sentence and this would lead into jo‘s story line BUT NO now shonda will make her hook up with her best friend Link and repeat the George and Izzy storyline all over again BUT there will be Amelia‘s Baby involved this time so very very great

I am personally thrilled that Alex went back in time to Izzie and his two children. It reminded me that the show was once magically. After Christina left and Derek died, this show has been struggling with unappealing characters and storylines. I cried tears of joy last night knowing that Alex and Izzie are together and happy and their love was frozen in time and still strong. Jo will move on. Jo just doesn't possess any magic of the original cast. The show should probably end within a few more years. All the best characters are long gone. Even Meredith has lost her magically spark she once had. It would be best to rebuild this show with much better characters and storylines. Return to the magic that once was or just watch the re-runs.

From the beginning of the show, I thought Alex Karev was gonna be famous Villain, but instead he became a gifted-talented extraordinary person like Meredith, Cristina and Izzie..also George😭
They should've just killed him off. Tragic but at least it wouldn't have reconnected all his character growth. It's stuff like this which is why I stopped watching the show.

Years later, I've gone through EVERY scenario which would make the best possible exit for Alex while giving us a sort of an happy ending. Unpopular opinion but this is the best exit for me. Everyone says to the hell and back for Alex leaving Jo, that I understand. But YOU have to understand that Justin Chambers just gave the writers almost NO notice when he left. They couldn't have him to film some possible exit scenes. We needed a reason as to why Alex would leave Jo. Just for Africa? Arizona kinda did. For war? April kinda did. New York? Callie kinda did. Alex loved Jo but his one true love was and is always gonna be Izzie. This is the best exit for me considering Justin's circumstances, and it also gives us an explanation to whatever happened to Izzie since she left Seattle Grace. Seeing what Jo has been up to now, I'd have to say that Camilla Luddington as Jo has been freed storywise. Like Meredith came so far since Derek's death.
Personally, I think this was a good sendoff episode for Alex. I didn't expect him going back to Izzie but it's better than killing him off. This way he might make an appearance if anything happens to Meredith or if the show is ending.

I think this is the perfect ending to Alex. I mean he really loved Jo but never like he loved Izzie. He didn't moved to Kansas just because he had kids, he moved to Kansas because he still loved Izzie he was in love with Izzie all this time, all this 10 years. Jo deserves better? Yes she does I'm sorry for her but she will find someone who will love her madly (just like Alex loves Izzie) and this is not the first character in this show that can have a better couple that his ex, what about Addison now she is happy with a new couple.
I liked izziex from the beginning it was very sad when Izzie left but this reunion and this ending is very good I really liked.
So sad the productors couldn't meet with Justin and Katherine that would made a really big difference in this episode and close both character stories with the best ending.

Everyone is saying how Alex wouldn’t do this. But sometimes it takes living a life to realize that you have done your part in the lives of those who needed you and now you have the chance to forge your own path and find the love you once lost. It takes a strong person to leave the comfort and safety of their home to go make a new home with someone they believe will make them truly happy. Don’t hate on the character or creators for allowing Alex to start a life where he will be happy with his first real love.
I get that some people are happy with how this turned out and that's perfectly fine. But there's no way to romanticize this. Alex is now cheater and liar who didn't even have the decency to have a face to face conversation with his wife before ending things with her, his wife who he just remarried and has had enough abandonment and trauma to last her a lifetime. There's no strength in that. And this is now the second marriage that Izzie has helped destroy (third if you count her marriage to Alex that she walked out on). I just don't see anything beautiful in this. And, as much as I loved Alex & Izzie, I can't pretend that she hasn't been gone for 10 years or that Alex hasn't been deeply in love with Jo for 8 of those 10 years. This endgame needed more than letters and flashbacks to make me believe it and it deserved more than turning two beloved characters into cheaters. I don't hate the writers, but I do feel like they deserve a lot of the criticisms that they're getting because they have a long habit of writing out characters poorly.

If it was only Nostalgia of what might've been or what was, I don't think Alex would have left his life, his marriage and his career back in Grey-Sloan. But he has two children with Izzie Stevens. And personally, that was the one thing that Richard got wrong.
Richard was married to Adele. Fell in love with Ellis Grey. Had a child, for God's sake. And still went back to a life in a marriage where Adele was always hovering over him. Alex called Izzie when he needed a letter, and Alex got to talking to Izzie about her life and Their children. He had to go see them. It wouldn't be like Alex to not go see them. And he saw them, and they called him Dad.
I love Alex and Jo together. Because Jo made him a better human being, a better man, a better surgeon. Jo did that. But, his children will impact his life in a different way. And honestly, so will Izzie.
We needed closure for that part of Grey's. And they gave us closure. And I get it, why everyone is hating this. But, I don't think they did wrong by Alex Karev. Leaving Seattle to be a great dad for His kids. For as much as we've seen from Alex, the way he's a Peds doctor. The way he is with kids. The way he loves and he is. Alex Karev deserves an ending. A happy one. And yes, that doesn't mean that Jo should be hurt in the process. But she will move past the darkness and turn it into light because that is who she is. She uses all the darkness that surrounds her and turns it into her strength. Jo will be fine. I truly believe that.
So with that, Goodbye Alex Karev. You will truly be missed.
I'm watching from the beginning and I'm on season 6 and I can totally believe he'd be with Izzie. I haven't met Jo yet but who cares? Yes, Alex loved Jo but he loved Izzie more and was his soulmate. Jo and Alex were not. If they were, they would have had a child that would have lived and would have been happy together but that didn't happen. Alex and Izzie always loved each other as each other's true loves. Now, Alex and Izzie can be there for each other as well as Eli and Alexis(the twins). Boo hoo, Jo's all sad. Who cares?
