I agree. She was unfairly treated after she spoke her mind and honestly told the truth. She didn't think she deserved to be nominated due to the material she was given. And as Greys fan it was the truth.
''all the time'' meaning she bent how many times then? 🤔...those movie roles don't come from talent most times but what you DO on that casting couch and in those special rooms you get called to, at around 1am, 2am and 3am. Harvey Weinstein would explain this better 😂
Ellen says such a beautiful and true thing at 49:15 “Nobody likes a confident woman. Theyd rather you be a woman looking for your confidence than you actually be a confident woman. Because that makes them nervous.” PREACH!!🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
@@Mariana-zc1gxI’m pretty sure her and Shonda Rimes( the director) got into it and Katherine was standing up for herself, they ended up taking her out the show for it.
Katherine is actually a huge inspiration for women in any bussiness and was ahead of her time standing up for herself and in some ways demanding respect. She’s such a brilliant actress, she deserved more. How many men spoke against bad scripts, directors, writers or whatever and were cancelled after that for it? Everybody likes tough men, but when a woman is “tough” she’s overbearing and difficult. Bullshit
@damn 070 No, what is bullshit is to think you "demand" respect. You don't. The only way to get respect it to earn it. HUGE difference. But many of you spoiled entitled man bashing brats do not understand that.
@snailmail2135 Johnny Depp situation was WAY different then what she's talking about. Everybody loves Johnny & if him or any men bring up certain topics like Katherine did nobody will cancel them or take them out. They listen to them change it & move on. Different for women.
Preach! I love her as a person & actress. She's an amazing strong woman I miss her on greys & what's funny the rest of the actors actually talked & brought up on camera exactly what Katherine had said & not a damn thing did they react or do to them, just her. She deserved better
idk if it was just me but when she started to speak about the young women in this industry towards the end - that passion in her voice & her face reminded me so much of Izzie 🥲🥺
I loved how Ellen validated her. I think with time and experience Ellen has also gained a lot of understanding for what happened and Im glad to see her validating KH.
yeah I remember Heigl was said to be "difficult to work with" and I kinda accepted she was a btch but I guess theres some sexism involved??? Can you explain?
@@edum.6353 It was not sexism it was unprofessional plain & simple. KH came to another actor's defense when he was being bullied for being gay. She was hailed a hero which she really was. But then she started complaining about the long hours and other things on set she did not like. OK. But then she came out and denounced the writers because she thought she deserved a better storyline. It was an ensemble show. It could not be all about Izzie all the time. So she became viewed as problematic but rightfully so on some level. If she was that unhappy she had many other options, including the choice to quit. Biting the hand that feeds you is never the way to go about it.
@@nickimorelli9991 She didn't bite any hand. She worked to feed herself. And she literally complimented her colleagues for having a better material than her. And now leave Heigl out of your mouth
So many actor's would've backtracked their statements if faced with the same amount of criticism Katherine received. Even after 15+ years and essentially being blacklisted from the industry, she's remained unapologetic. She's truly a pioneer for demanding a higher standard for women in the workplace, especially when voicing adverse opinions.
@@blackspider1405No, they didn't like Heigl. Heigl was ahead of her time and she fought for healthy work conditions all alone and now be quiet for a lifetime
Awe, it’s so beautiful to see Ellen protecting Katherine so confidently. I hated the way media portrayed her. It’s such a beautiful story they’ve shared. I’m thankful we got to watch them reconnect. It’s emotional for some reason.
Katherine Heigl faced so much crap from people back in the day, was called a bitch and a diva for just wanting to be respected in her work environment. Love that she didn't give up on herself.
Agreed! And the worst part was, she was right! She was absolutely correct about the Emmy situation. And they all came after her. Nowadays, if an actress said what Katie said, nobody would have an issue
She was ahead of the times with what people do not in this social media generation. Props to her for speaking up at a time where it wasn't "trendy" to.
I wish Sandra Oh was also featured on this interview, it would have been awesome to see all the 3 women who started the show together in conversation. It is an amazing exchange though, I loved every bit of it.
I loved the way Katherine gently disagreed with Ellen about intimacy coordinators and shared her experience. Such an elegant way of having a different opinion.
@@tcrump212IsLmbrJck_t right about 42:00 is the conversation about intimacy coordinators. It’s part of the larger conversation about stress on sets and the exploitative nature of a lot of what actors are asked to do, particularly young actors, that starts at about 40:10. Hope that helps!
I mean they both gave different sides of the argument. They weren’t really disagreeing. They seemed aware of the positives and negatives of intimacy coordinators. The discussion just resulted in them giving alternate perspectives. Ellen did say “the intention behind it is good” and “the execution is sometimes weird”
Hugh Grant and Colin Farrell also aired a slight disagreement in their convo, which was about whether acting should emphasise audience entertainment or artistry for its own sake.
FACT: Majority of Grey’s iconic scenes involve Izzie and that giant pink ball gown. It was that Season 2 Finale with Izzie, Denny and Alex (with Chasing Cars song) that sealed the deal for Grey’s Anatomy and promoted it from popular to phenomenal. Also, don’t forget the Season 5 elevator scene with Izzie and George wearing his army uniform. Heigl is one hellava actress.
@@IrrelevantReviewsAndComments Girl, I highly recommend Firefly Lane. It’s Heigl’s best work to date. Just when you thought she’s done and won’t be able to top her iconic Grey’s Anatomy scenes, she came back swinging like a wrecking ball in Firefly Lane. She deserves another Emmy for playing Tully Hart.
Very well said. That scene is at another level. And watching her on Suits, it was completely different character and the way she portrayed it. Just wowwww
I imagine it must be difficult for Katherine to listen to Ellen being so vocal and bold about certain things when it’s the very reason why she basically lost her career in the first place. A lot of people would’ve never made the reconnection and held resentment and anger etc. it’s beautiful to see these two women speaking so candidly about such a formative shared experience!
@Anna Katie spoke up about not feeling like she deserved an Emmy nomination due to the quality of her work, which at the time her storylines weren't great. So she asked to be taken out of the running. Shonda and co, felt slighted that she said that. And it opened up a floodgate situation that essentially got her fired. It was ridiculous, especially now when women can speak up and disagree and critique their work or show. Katie didn't get to do that at the time and was labeled difficult and it's sad.
I agree, Ellen said it was ‘privileged for Katherine to even have her voice.. when Ellen has said far worse things and got to keep her job, admiration etc and get no backlash for it. Ellen is a power house but I still don’t think she knew what Katherine went though.
20 years of Grey's Anatomy and Katherine Heigl is still the only actress who won an Emmy from the show. I know that must really piss off the people who fired her.
I love that Ellen is in a space where she can poke fun at how ridiculous some of the moments on the show were. She’s not holding back and you can tell Katherine is holding back. Makes sense why.
@Nana Sakvarelidze kathryn heigl was bashed through the media for speaking her mind about negative things about greys anatomy, like Isaiah Washington or harsh working conditions on set. She rarely held back her tongue about those things and was labeled difficult to work with or egotistical (supposedly around the time of winning her first emmy for the show). Pompeo has no problem doing things like that.
@@Shaye.J But she did just talk about she didn’t of course go into deep detail but it was so obvious that what it was she talking about when she mentioned her “soap box” and “mega-phone” so she did and she even admitted to it about how she let herself be a victim to the rejection she got. She saying that she knows now what she didn’t know then.
@@amber.ren_1995 that was actually my favorite part of the whole video. I wanted her to go more in depth, but loved loved loved the part her when she says she started trusting herself again when it came to who she actually is! So powerful. I feel like with all the rumors, they never really gave examples of how she was "difficult" or "ungrateful". Now Ellen is applauded for maybe even that same attitude.
As someone who grew up with Grey's and watched it from season one, I will never forget the emotional depth Heigl gave to Izzie. I will also never forget how bad she had it... She was canceled before cancel culture ever existed and just labeled a "bitch" for simply being a strong woman. Thank God she seemed to have turned things around and here's to hoping she will continue to deliver her unparalleled acting skills for many years to come.
@@ikheetjasonIt wasn’t going in a good direction for her, so she was outspoken. She deserved it for many of her scenes, but afterwards, the writers took Izzie in a bad direction, and Katherine Heigl was aware of what was coming. She probably misspoke somewhat, but she was mistreated.
@@truelies2667 I think Ellenv did kind of Haphazardly apologized to Katie. I could be wrong, but I remember seeing an article where Ellen was saying you know Katherine was right. About the long hours and about being quite underpaid etc. I mean, I know Katherine spoke out about a lot of other stuff too.
Katherine was the Gen Z of the original Grey's. She stood up for herself, she demanded respect, she refused to be another cog in the wheel. She was bold, and unapologetic before it was ok for women to do that. She still is, all of those things but still a very humble person who recognizes her growth, maturity and autonomy. This is a phenomenal conversation that displays deep respect for one another, even though they were treated so differently.
Gen Z, really? She’s a functioning mature woman who stood up for herself. If you think it has to do with labels such as “Gen this or Gen that” you haven’t matured enough.
@@I.R_Inori i think op is referencing the current trend in business/general media of 'calling out' gen z now demanding much more respect in the workplace and framing it as a bad thing
OP is missing the entire point then which Gen Z largely seems to do as a whole when they routinely dismiss or overlook the shoulders of powerful women upon which they stand who came before them. Katherine Heigl wasn’t the Gen Z of anything. She was a woman of her time; she just wasn’t appreciated or respected for it. You can honor and recognize her boldness without misattributing it to a younger, idealized generation which (like every generation before it) will someday be looked back upon as “behind the times”.
Please bring Izzy back- she has stories to tell and deserves an apology and a chance to shine again on that show. Doesn’t have to be a long engagement- but a correct one
@@butzimperial2317me too. I’ve never even seen the show. But you know Katherine Heigl has integrity and honesty. I never liked Seth Rogen and Judd Apatao after they bashed her. Man children.
“There’s two role roles women fit into. The victim or villain. People will only see you as one thing. And the women who are victims are only victims because they don’t have the guts to be the villain.” PREACH, ELLEN!!
Ellen was so right for that, and you can see it now; how so many popular (or it girls) female celebrities are so praised one day and then if they make the smallest mistake everyone suddenly hates her.
This was a fantastic interview. Katherine gets the redemption she so deserves and Ellen shows she why she gets paid as much as she does. Its fascinating as there are usually two types of leaders when it comes to change, those that break free and call it out (Katherine) and those that work within the system (Ellen). Both have pros and cons. Both can be successful. Katherine was the catalyst for change on the show, Ellen was the reinforcement.
“But who are you? Who are you without all the opinions of who you are?” This right here is it. A lot of us don’t even know who we are because of other people. We are a different person to different people and we allow opinions of other define us. Taking a step back and tuning all the noise to look inwards and think about yourself, makes all the difference. Learning yourself for yourself fixes a need to give anyone a different version. Everyone gets one version, whether they like it or not because you no longer care about being liked or what they have to say about you.
How true. Takes a while to figure out, and once you start learning to learn yourself, your past seems sweet and silly instead of the burden we felt it was and the realisation that we've let others opinions define our lives too much helps you step away from it all with a powerful sense of acceptance that is pretty peaceful.
The original cast in those early seasons were just golden. They truly had something special and it was magic. I used to love watching Grey's but honestly i stopped watching long ago but i often rewatch those early seasons. As for Katherine, because she played Isabel Evans on Roswell, and i absolutely loved that show and all those characters, it truly holds a special place in my heart to this day, i will always respect her craft.
Those first 5 seasons are magic (pun intended). There is something so specific about the first 5 seasons. The original cast, the feeling, the writing the storyline’s ❤
i always said season 10 would've been a great one to end it off on. honestly i wasnt even fully mad that they kept going on with april and jackson, but now its really not the same show anymore. it feels so fake now idk thats just me
In the beginning there was integrity, then it developed into a soap opera. Should have stopped many seasons ago. Shame how so many want to hang on and gain many many seasons.
If we're being real here: Katherine was villainized and thrown out like trash by Grey's and the entire industry for being a woman who spoke up for herself and her career in a time when that was not normalized. On the flip side, Ellen has been able to grow with the times and success of the show into a position where she can unabashedly speak up for herself and her career with no backlash. This conversation affirmed that Katherine was ahead of her time and deserves all of the success because she has the talent and morals to back it up. She walked so that Ellen could run with her "girl boss" energy.
Ellen is the main character she has directed produced the show where Katherine was a supporting character so yeah that was them saying stay in your lane be happy to have a job.
Yeah, it was so pleasant. I love that she stands by her opinions and what she believes is best for the character. I mean, she made Meredith what she is. However, it must be really frustrating to doesn't have control after all these years.
@@truelies2667 Let me ask you something when I was disrespectful to Katherine Heigl in my comment? I love her character on the show and never wanted her to leave. I know that she wasn't allowed to stand up for herself, and when she did. People found her challenging, but that is bullshit. She deserves better, but Ellen Pompeo doesn't have control over that. She was barely known when she started the show and gained less than Patrick Dempsey until he left, even though she is the main character. It took her a lot of time to get what she deserved. So, you won't be mad at me. I was talking about Ellen, but I love Katherine. Hollywood and Shonda Rhimes owe her an apology.
Katherine was and still is THAT BITCH. Stood up for herself, is not afraid to speak up for others and all the while is stunning while doing it all. She is a role model and I love how open she is about everything.

Shonda didn’t do anything to her. She merely removed a big star to protect her staff writers. Heigl had made a stupid and unnecessary statement that made it impossible for the writers room to get an Emmy that year. Writers are the most under appreciated part of showbiz and winning an Emmy as a young writer can change your career. But because she was a rising film actress it didn’t occur to her that she was hurting peoples careers. She’s still never apologised to “the little people”. I've always been in the "Katherine Heigl did nothing wrong" camp; I'm not a stan or anything but I've defended her a lot to friends and am always happy to see her thriving. Ellen is right that she was ahead of the curve - I think people would be a lot more receptive to what she had to say if that period of her life were happening today.
Agreed. I would hear about the episodes that got her blacklisted and… they just didn’t seem that bad? I liked that she was honest about what she wanted. She got a little too big for her britches but not enough to warrant being completely blacklisted like she was.
@@hollywoodshopaholic I honestly don't think she got too big for her britches - being honest about the writing on Grey's by not wanting her name submitted for Emmy consideration, and calling a Judd Apatow -- you know, the boy's club director (and I say this as someone who's generally enjoyed his work) -- movie sexist is just, like, integrity? The Emmys thing was a bit rude but c'mon, Shonda is notorious for making shows that start pretty good and then quickly go off the rails, to the point where I can't bear starting a new Shonda show because I know I'll get burned no matter how much I enjoy the first season. Overestimating your public influence IS called being too big for your britches.
I have to say, my opinion about Katherine has completely changed because of this conversation. I let the “stories” about her dictate how I viewed her off-screen personality, how small minded of me. I felt the passion she has for protecting young actors - and I loved this beautiful example of female friendship.
Katherine telling the most impactful ending on Firefly Lane left me in shock, because I'm just three episodes away from the end hahahahaha. Ellen and Katherine, you both are inspiring women! 🙂
I will forever defend Katherine Heigl and i'll never forget or forgive what Shonda and the entire crew did to her. I'm so happy she's getting so much love these last few years, she really really deserves it!
Katherine was ahead of her time not because she should have been on Twitter, but she recognized a career where you don't stand up for yourself and your boundaries is a career not worth having as a woman in Hollywood. She persevered without the support of a major network backing her up to make her look like the good girl. She's incredible.
I always loved Katherine's sense of humor and thought she was a great actress. I hate that we lost so many years of her career due to her standing up for herself. She was ahead of her time IMO. I'm glad she's back.
I know. I’m actually glad she left Grey’s Anatomy just bcuz they were starting to make her character of Izzy Steven’s become really annoying. And whiny and I was starting to not like her anymore. But once she broke off and started doing movies and stuff I loved her movies everything she starred in I loved it thought she was a great actress. So yea back then they were not letting her character grow very much at all. It became very limited. I knew there was a reason I loved her and after hearing this conversation between them just solidified that. ❤ But I love Greys Anatomy. I’ll be 28 in 2 days. And I’ve been watching Greys Anatomy since i was 10 years old. And I was 10 years old the year this show aired back in 2005. And im still watching it. So crazy that I’ve gotten to grow with show over the years through my childhood. I thought it was funny when Ellen mentioned her daughter about wanting to watch it and her daughter being in 6th grade. I was like yea I watched it when I was 10 my dad let me watch it with him and of course if they were scenes I couldn’t watch he just said shield my eyes. Though I don’t remember having to do it a lot bcuz now thinking about it since the show is on ABC my dad probably thought we’ll when it comes to the sex scenes they don’t really show a lot anyway so yea haha. And blood and stuff didn’t bother me and my dad never said anything about having to shield my eyes for those scenes. And guess what I was never traumatized by any of it. But it’s probably bcuz I knew it was just a show and not real. 👍🫶🫶🫶😊
I love Katherine in this interview. So natural and just comfortable in her views and what she was saying. She seems a person who feels things deeply, but at the same time wants things to be right. With the controversy around her being ‘demanding’ and leaving Greys, what she said was the truth but she said it at the wrong time, in the wrong way and to the wrong people. Ellen is just so eloquent and articulate. With things on Greys that needed to change she bided her time and said the right things at the right time, the right way and to the right people. It’s just solidifies that timing is everything.

It actually took her years to get the pay she deserved as the name sake of the show. The men always made more than her. So, yes, she should make all that money. She earned it.
“They’d rather you be a woman looking for your confidence than you actually be a confident woman.” That was the most important thing said in this conversation IMO.
Heigl as Izzie is one of the most iconic roles of my generation. I look at some of her scenes on Grey’s sometimes and I feel everything I felt when I was 15. She was blackballed so unfairly. Just a woman who couldn’t be silenced. And execs hate that. She was dangerous to their structure and that’s why she was the “bad guy”. She is such an amazing actress and the show lost a lot of heart when they wrote her out.
The passion that Katherine talks with about standing up for yourself specially for young girls is so heartwarming and I loved her since forever and now I love her more tbh
The speech that Izzy gave to Denny right before cutting the LVAD wire was the reason I started watching Grey's Anatomy. Great acting, very emotional and relatable for some intense relationships.
Katherine is just phenomenal! The scene with her crying over Denny's dead body will forever be seared in my brain. When she cries, she really makes you feel the character's emotions
Everyone hated the Denny scenes thats why his plot ended😂😂😂😂😂😂 Im pretty sure its listed as one of the worst or annoying/embarrassing subplots in tv history
Izzie’s departure from Grey’s will always be one of the saddest parts of the show for me. The fact she was never given a proper send off (for valid reasons, that being) always felt so wrong for how big of a character she was - she truly was my favourite and I always would pray they brought her back even just for an episode. I’m so glad Katherine is getting her stars now, she truly deserves it and is such a gorgeous person.
Oh my goodness, can we hear that line over and over again? ‘People can’t handle confident women. The can only handle women looking for their confidence.’ Wow that puts sooo many things in perspective! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Katherine Heigl is so genuine and relatable in the sense she speaks without a filter. I don't understand how she got the bad rep that she did back in the day.
It was refreshing to watch the two of them together and specially Katherine. She was so brave for standing up for herself back then and even when everyone gave her ice she didn’t held back. So powerful.

Towards the end, when Ellen said how the pressure makes you take wrong decisions, it somehow felt jarring to me because it seemed like she was saying Katherine didn't handle the pressure well. But like she said, Katherine was just ahead of her times and was a confident, ballsy woman and for someone like that, I think it would have felt so wrong to stand by and watch something wrong and not say or do anything about it. The way she talked about protecting young actors and herself, even at the cost of a career, because it won't be worth it otherwise, she sounds like someone who is passionate and idealistic. I really liked her so much in this interview; she sounds like a sweet, genuine, kind and passionate person.
I can see why Katherine was perfect to portray Tully Hart. She is THAT confident, that amazing. I always loved her and was heartbroken for how she canceled. Izzie was my favorite character in Grey’s, and I really still hope for her to come back somehow, even for a few minutes. I love her and Ellen, such strong and confident women, they are THE example. I wish to be as strong as they are when I’m their age.
I really love Katherine in Firefly Lane! I almost don't want to call it a performance--feels like she's tapping into a very real part of her (and many of us) who is internally deeply vulnerable/wanting love but somehow just a tad more courageous & bold than yoked to the validation of others! Love how she brought Tully to life
Katherine was probably the best actor on Greys, her and April brought real emotion to the scenes. also i loved what ellen said about women being victims or villains! True
I will never understand why people had this perception/bad reputation of Katherine. I love her and I think she is such a great actor! She did a fantastic job in firefly lane show.
Katherine Heigl is so genuine in this interview, and it's beautiful to see. It's very clear that her and Ellen have really different personalities and perspectives on things. Ellen is much more reserved, old-school and almost with a "don't care about others and focus on yourself" perspective in many ways, while Katherine is really passionate, sensitive and seems to genuinely have a drive for making the industry better for the youth behind her. Loved listening to her and relate to her a lot!! :)
I love this woman. I don't know why people hated her for withdrawing her name from the Emmy's nominations. She just didn't feel she deserved it and I find that really brave. It doesn't mean she had no respect for the writer. She had always been grateful for Gray's Anatomy. I love the fact that she sacrificed her sweetness and kindness to help ensure better work conditions and respect for the actresses and the crew behind the scene, even if that have costed her the "bad guy" label. ❤❤
I Love Katherine Heigl...She Deserves An Apology And A Huge Comeback ..She Was Wronged And Labelled "Difficult" When She Stood Up For Herself..If Someone Did It Now They Would Be Praised As "Brave".
These two women are absolutely incredible. I adore how they lift each other up, and have nothing but praise for all the talented people they've worked with. Their experience and wisdom is inspiring for all women. How lucky their children are to have such amazing mothers as an example
This is the best Actors on Actors I've ever seen. Truly thankful for Ellen and Katherine for having a conversation about women in Hollywood and success and basically everything important if you're a woman working in the industry. Also some pretty good life lessons and Grey's throwbacks!
My mom was a nurse and we watched this show together since the beginning. Its how we bonded. She would rectify the little mistakes during procedures or surgery. I lost her 3 years ago. My heart is healed watching this again. This show is so special to my heart. Thank you ellen and Katherine. I miss MAGIC❤
Denny's death has been the most heartbreaking story for me. I haven't cried that much in another show or movie. Katherine did such an amazing job portraying Izzie's pain. I love her so much. I wish her to come back to Grey's Anatomy
It really makes me reflect on my own drama. Past friends, past “stuff” that seemed so HUGE at the time. And I’ve not lived in the public eye in the way these brilliant and amazing women have come together in such a real way and not focus this real conversation on the drama of the past - without ignoring the truth. Love this. Thank you.
I have always supported Katherine Heigl and always felt she got the short end of the stick when she called out Grey's writers, as well as the on set antics of 'Knocked Up'. And I really hope she starts to get recognized for the amount of work she put into Izzie Stevens. She was so poised and still intense in this interview and I absolutely loved it.
I saw Izzie Steven’s come out at 52:00-52:45. The passion. The certainty. The valor. The expressions. The facial gestures. It was Izzie when she was most passionate about things. I love that Katie was able to take back the narrative. Love you, Katie! And Ellen is such a badass and a source of insight and knowledge. She doesn’t just display grace but she IS GRACE (not Grey’s and no pun intended)

Iconic conversation I didn't know I needed. @15 mins will never forget watching the "Pick Me" episode of Grey's in real time with my best friend and her mom, and my best friend's mom telling us while we were watching to never beg a man like that. I will never forget that moment. It's wonderful to hear that backstory directly from Ellen's mouth! Incredible!
44:50 - The discussion everyone was waiting to hear, it's great that they're so open about everything that happened in the past and Heigl's experience at the time. Great to see them being so mature about it, glad that so many things were explained for the fans and the public. This conversation should've happened sooner.
Katie being a staunch ally to T.R. Knight when he was called a slur on set, funding an org that helps save dogs in honor of her brother who passed away, politely standing up for the crew and support cast for their brutally long working hours on Greys only to have it twisted into a big deal. I have always been a fan of hers and I hope she gets some better offers and scripts worthy of her talent to make up for the inaccurate media narrative around her in the past. ❤
I always liked her and I knew that the media is doing her dirty but this interview made me actually love her. Like I won so much respect for that woman. So inspiring
The last five minutes 🥺 51:32 “If you cannot stand up in this industry very few people will stand up for you so you better learn how to and you better be okay with them not liking you”. - KH “You have to fight and you have to be brave and if it all goes away because you fought and you were brave then it all goes away because you know what it will not be worth it otherwise. It will not be worth it. It just won’t. It just won’t.” - KH “It’s not a career worth having if you’re bending all the time” - KH
@tute Do you understand it took her 15 years to come to terms with it all going away? That is because she never expected it would happen to her because her ego let her think she was too important to the show. But it did all go away. And she was wrong which is why no one fought for her. Read that again.
@@joemarks8548 what’s your point, tho? Even if did take her a while to come to terms with it, that doesn’t mean what she’s saying here isn’t true. It probably gives it even more credibility, as she’s learned the hard way the very things she’s talking about. Like ‘yeah, it goes away and it was really bad but it was worth it in the end’
We consider that Ellen chose to stay where she was, growing with her importance to ABC and the show, to develop into the power that she became. Katherine was stifled by the show limiting her ability to grow. In her choice to move beyond it, and how she handled the post-success of "Knocked Up", she found herself even more limited than her original circumstance. Great conversation.
I think Ellen is right. Some of the things that Katherine said back then that got her crucified are the things that most people would say today on social media, and it may not really affect their career. Even Ellen has since gone on to say that Katherine’s reference to the long hours that they had to work on Grey’s Anatomy - another thing that she got slammed for - was right. I feel bad that Katherine got so much flack for the things she said, but I’m glad to see that she’s in such a better place now, both personally and career-wise (I have been so into Firefly Lane). I truly enjoyed this conversation. I’d always suspected Katherine was kinda goofy in real life, but her sense of humour and the chemistry with Ellen really had me laughing so hard.
Honestly the thought of Ellen watching Grey's with her daughter is really special to me because Grey's was the first show my mom and I watched every episode of together :') that was before streaming and she got the first seasons on Netflix DVDs!!

But then she came out and denounced the writers because she thought she deserved a better storyline. It was an ensemble show. It could not be all about Izzie all the time.
Interesting
FACT: Majority of Grey’s iconic scenes involve Izzie and that giant pink ball gown. It was that Season 2 Finale with Izzie, Denny and Alex (with Chasing Cars song) that sealed the deal for Grey’s Anatomy and promoted it from popular to phenomenal. Wait how was she the reason? I thought the network and show runner were the reason for her leave?
@Anna Katie spoke up about not feeling like she deserved an Emmy nomination due to the quality of her work, which at the time her storylines weren't great. So she asked to be taken out of the running. Shonda and co, felt slighted that she said that. And it opened up a floodgate situation that essentially got her fired.

Saying what we're all thinking is not being too big for your britches.
@@geegeezlouis86 She and her momager would demand much higher salaries for her films than what even bigger stars would ask for. She had only just become an It Girl at that point and most of the public still didn’t know who she was, but she thought she was a much bigger power player than she actually was.

I love when people share the evolution of their point of view on things!
Super cool and incredibly insightful of you to say that. It’s always beautiful when someone can admit they were mislead. Props to you!
Just goes to show how easily manipulated you are by mass media. Wonder what else you believe without nuance and analyzation.
@@osimeon00 well aren't you a nasty cynic. 😂😅🤣
It takes a woman to own up to that and as one, I love to see it:) Truly how I feel about her!
Katherine telling the most impactful ending on Firefly Lane left me in shock, because I'm just three episodes away from the end hahahahaha.
Ellen and Katherine, you both are inspiring women! 🙂
Omg Katherine calling it "Seattle Grace" is the absolute cutest thing.
Omg yes
I will forever defend Katherine Heigl and i'll never forget or forgive what Shonda and the entire crew did to her. I'm so happy she's getting so much love these last few years, she really really deserves it!
She got crushed so unjustifiably. Great, that she can still come back.
What did they do to her? What was she talking about being a villain? What reaction?
@@lorrainesantos6745 she criticised the theme and working hours of some of her movies and sets so she was labelled as difficult and black listed.
Shonda rhimes has treated a lot of people badly on greys.
@@samanthabarbados4245 No, she talked shit about her employer in a public space and got fired for it.
Katherine was ahead of her time not because she should have been on Twitter, but she recognized a career where you don't stand up for yourself and your boundaries is a career not worth having as a woman in Hollywood. She persevered without the support of a major network backing her up to make her look like the good girl. She's incredible.

I bet Katherine was rwally thinking "Little girl, you'd better get TF away from me with this bullshit, cause I'ma whoop your ass in a second."😂

What did Katherine say?
@@lorrainesantos6745 Do not even waste your time asking these complete idiots who are as entitled as KH still is. She is a spoiled little brat who thought she was more important than everyone else and when she expected to be treated that way, she was rightfully kicked to the curb. The way these people say "she spoke the truth" when many were toddlers who never worked on a tv show is not only laughable it is insane. Look up the history yourself, see where her career is and decide for yourself.
That was the reason I stopped watching! 😅 I just couldn't deal with more suffering
Rewatching for these scenes 😎 my fav story line
Katherine is just phenomenal! The scene with her crying over Denny's dead body will forever be seared in my brain. When she cries, she really makes you feel the character's emotions
Everyone hated the Denny scenes thats why his plot ended😂😂😂😂😂😂 Im pretty sure its listed as one of the worst or annoying/embarrassing subplots in tv history
@@THEDOORIZCLOSED where? Its literally a huge story line. Im rewatching all major episodes now
Izzie’s departure from Grey’s will always be one of the saddest parts of the show for me.
I'm so happy how Katherine is getting her fire back in the eye of Hollywood. She is a truly beautiful woman.
Katherine Heigl was absolutely incredible in “Firefly Lane.” That show was perfection from Episode 1 through to the end.

This conversation is basically a grown up Mer and Izzie reflecting on their lives together and the work they did together 😢 it was beautiful to watch ❤

Man this is so iconic for us longtime fans! Justice for Katherine!
I wish to be as strong as they are when I’m their age.
can’t believe this happened but I’m so glad. 2 extraordinary, misunderstood, talented women with a unique bond.
I really love Katherine in Firefly Lane! I almost don't want to call it a performance--feels like she's tapping into a very real part of her (and many of us) who is internally deeply vulnerable/wanting love but somehow just a tad more courageous & bold than yoked to the validation of others! Love how she brought Tully to life
Just finished binge watching and I loved it

Katherine was probably the best actor on Greys, her and April brought real emotion to the scenes.

Thats typical Scorpio and Sagittarius personalities 😊
I love this woman. I don't know why people hated her for withdrawing her name from the Emmy's nominations. She just didn't feel she deserved it and I find that really brave. It doesn't mean she had no respect for the writer. She had always been grateful for Gray's Anatomy. I love the fact that she sacrificed her sweetness and kindness to help ensure better work conditions and respect for the actresses and the crew behind the scene, even if that have costed her the "bad guy" label. ❤❤
The thing is that she could just let it be. Why say something after you got nominated? Just be thankful and move on.

It really makes me reflect on my own drama. Past friends, past “stuff” that seemed so HUGE at the time. “Who are you without all of the opinions of who you are?” beautifully said.
Katherine Heigl and her continuous performances and general addressing of malpractice. Thank you. You're breaking the glass

44:50 - The discussion everyone was waiting to hear, it's great that they're so open about everything that happened in the past and Heigl's experience at the time. Great to see them being so mature about it, glad that so many things were explained for the fans and the public. This conversation should've happened sooner.
Such a good interview! Katherine Heigl was speaking up for what was right and she was before her time!
