OMG! this one of the best creation on music in the world! the feeling and style are unique.. I ve listen it over and over again., i think 50 times in a row! the best music!
Oh Man... this is so good.... Def takes me back to '86 when I was sooo young. Great Version.. the best! Video was ahead of it's time too. Thanks for posting!
A original eu nem ligava nunca gostei muito dessa banda. Mas ouvindo o canal de musica da Sky da decada de 80,ouvi essa nova versão e adorei, tanto que já a gravei.
I love both versions of this excellent song! The original is kinda odd if you think about the serious message of the song paired with the fun, reggae, dance arrangement. This one slows it down a bit adding a darker feel to the painful situation explained in the lyrics. The musical arrangement is hauntingly beautiful and the subtle overdub of people arguing intensifies it all. I think thats why the band looks so somber. Well done!
a fantasy 80's sure.. lots of people think that listening to jimmi hendrix, beatles, will bring them back to the 60's, and in some way it does, but people never think of the bad stuff that was happening in those times.. only the good. and that's why you hear so many people say, living in such and such a time would have been so much better, or incredible. and in actuality it would have been exactly the same as living in the now. same problems, same good times. different era.

Pois é, é um climão de "requiém" esse clipe...tenho até a impressão de que eles sequer se reuniram pra gravar essa versão da musica e o clipe. Perceba que mesmo as imagens "novas" são montagens, eles nunca aparecem juntos...
Disagreements over which synthesizer to use for the drum tracks (Stewart broke his collarbone when he fell off a horse during polo, rendering him unable to play real drums for the time being) on this rendition of their early 1981 hit was perhaps the reason why The Police had (unofficially) split up. Stewart wanted to use the Fairlight CMI, while Sting wanted to use the N.E.D. Synclavier II. Which leads me to ask: What about the LinnDrum? Wouldn't that machine have worked here?
It is a fact, he was an english teacher before being in a band and this song is about how female students used to hit on him and the uncomfortableness of the situation.
@hofsteveO Oh my lord, a disagreement over which drum machine to record with prevented them from recording? I wish they could work out their differences. I mean the reunion was awesome but it would of been so much better if they'd had recorded an album for old times sake then parted ways. Just goes to show how disfunctional Sting and Stewart are hahaha
I can see why a lot of people would reject this recording as over-produced, thanks to the synthesized drumming and (somewhat interesting) sonic elements. Kids today may associate Sting's vocal delivery on this version with his solo work, which isn't necessarily what they want to hear when they listen to The Police. Still, Sting's harmonizing work here is amazing and Andy Summers' playing is beautiful as always. I enjoy both versions for different moods.
+Jorge Marques Agreed, I did not like the original at all, but this version is one of my favorites - amazing what a little change in rhythm can do. A little syncopation changes the whole feeling of the song
Looks like the video directors of this, Godley and Creme, pulled out many of their visual tricks from previous videos that they had directed for this one... As it is, due to being part of a best of package, a number of elements from previous music videos and albums make appearances...
lol this song is great! when I first heard it when I was 13 i didnt know who it was by, and it sounded like african tribal music lol. (I'm not saying that to be mean) anyway I still liked the song alot. It is really beautiful and awesome :D
It's the Police...hard for them to put out much I don't like. Don't think I've come across any other band quite like them. Both versions are great, but this one stands out more than the original for me because of musical arrangement. First time I heard it, the guitar rift had my attention, and the vocals just reeled me in. I'd love to hear an instrumental of it though. Hell, even the video was great on how it added clips from their past. Very creative for their more mature sounding song.
woah I love both. but they're both so different it's hard to compare them. the original one is funner and sexier, but this one is more sensual and maybe fits better with the lyrics. gosh I love them both so much. I can't decide.
How can you NOT know that Sting was a teacher? He's only one of the most famous musicians in the world. His basic biographical info. has been available for 3 decades. Obviously it didn't become his career, but he went to school just like everybody else, went to college, became a teacher, and played in the popular local pub band at night until meeting up with Stewart Copeland (You know who that is, right?).
Dont Stand So Close To Me, Originally sung by Sting and The Police. It's about a school girl that has a crush on her young teacher. The teacher of course feeling nervous about it. Originally sung in 1980. The Police later won a Grammy Award for "Best Rock performance by a duo or group with vocals" There ya go. A little information for you. Want proof from me? Send me a polite message of request and I will gladly provide :3 Peace Out! Zroykae xxx
@joshkosh95 They had to use a drum machine because Stuart Copeland fell off a horse and broke his arm... Him and sting fell out over what Drum machine to use, and they never recorded together again.
i agree but they're two totally different songs (apart from the lyrics) the original is more funky i guess and not as serious. but i agree this one does sound alot better.... songs like these give me a gist of what livin' in the 80's was like
This sounds more like "Sting" than The Police, but then again the Police broke up partly due to this song, I mean look at it, there is nothing to do with Summers or Copeland, its all Sting. This is not the post-punk/reggae Police, but Stings "holier than though" sound. Either way I like both

Interesting music and interesting video...

The Police rock on both versions....just depends if I'm in a 1980 or a 1986 mood ;)
espetacular
I Like this version better because it has a Darker vibe than the original and has a more overpowering sense of atmosphere.
It's my favorite version for this wonderful song. Only 17 people don't like to listen to great hits.
It was "I want my MTV" by dire straits,
the guy singing"i want my, i want my, i want my mtv" in the back was sting
Las dos versiones son excelentes. Definitivamente los ingleses siguen teniendo buenos grupos musicales
The only fact that he mentions Nabokov's book which is one of my favourite makes me love the song even more !
Uma Das Músicas Que Mais Me Lembram O Ano De 1986.
The Police - One of the great bands we have ever had in the 80's. I like the original but this one is better.
This version is PERFECT
EXCELLENT...... j'AIME... ... ... ...
My Favorite Version, No Doubt!!!!! way better than the Original!!! :)
a fantasy 80's sure.. lots of people think that listening to jimmi hendrix, beatles, will bring them back to the 60's, and in some way it does, but people never think of the bad stuff that was happening in those times.. only the good. and that's why you hear so many people say, living in such and such a time would have been so much better, or incredible. and in actuality it would have been exactly the same as living in the now. same problems, same good times. different era.

I prefer this version!
I love this song.....this and EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE are police best
The parting of the best band ever
Este vidoe para mi junto con Everybreath you take son la representacion de The Police.
Disagreements over which synthesizer to use for the drum tracks (Stewart broke his collarbone when he fell off a horse during polo, rendering him unable to play real drums for the time being) on this rendition of their early 1981 hit was perhaps the reason why The Police had (unofficially) split up. Which leads me to ask: What about the LinnDrum? Wouldn't that machine have worked here?
you´re right
@tumaster14 Soda Stereo se basó en The Police y este tema es anterior a El Rito del disco Signos. De ahí salió el riff...
It is a fact, he was an english teacher before being in a band and this song is about how female students used to hit on him and the uncomfortableness of the situation.
@SupernaturalLover67 Yeah, it`s one of those classics that just gets stuck in your head. Like a Beatles tune or somethin.
@hofsteveO Oh my lord, a disagreement over which drum machine to record with prevented them from recording? I wish they could work out their differences. I mean the reunion was awesome but it would of been so much better if they'd had recorded an album for old times sake then parted ways. LOL. I'm so old that I was actually still in high school when this song came out.
I can see why a lot of people would reject this recording as over-produced, thanks to the synthesized drumming and (somewhat interesting) sonic elements. Kids today may associate Sting's vocal delivery on this version with his solo work, which isn't necessarily what they want to hear when they listen to The Police. 3:50 I almost feel like this video was recorded as an ironic commentary on how marketing oriented everything was by the mid-80's.
Much better than the original version!
I used to not think so back then but now I have to agree.
So true
+Jorge Marques Agreed, I did not like the original at all, but this version is one of my favorites - amazing what a little change in rhythm can do. A little syncopation changes the whole feeling of the song
It's really the signal of their parting. So no.. it's really not better.
Yeah, I read about the same thing on Lifehacker. I usually resort to throwing office supplies at them.
Police..en su versión mas elegante y absoluta..lastima que no existan muchas bandas como esta..su estilo no es establecido...es origen, es creación.
This version is much better than the original! I love it!!!!
Looks like the video directors of this, Godley and Creme, pulled out many of their visual tricks from previous videos that they had directed for this one... As it is, due to being part of a best of package, a number of elements from previous music videos and albums make appearances...

TEMA ESPECTACULAR UNO DE LOS BUENISIMO THE POLICE HACE MUCHO NO LO PODIA HALLAR O LO PUDE HALLAR
I think this is the original and the new version is the other (really the more usually heard). This is from the 1986 and the version is from the 2007.
The original is still bad ass but this one is just so much better.
Velveeta was just oozing through my speakers and screen watching this.
Pretty good, but so hard too get used to after listening to the original for years.
It's the Police...hard for them to put out much I don't like. Don't think I've come across any other band quite like them. How would "Roxanne '86" have sounded?
How can you NOT know that Sting was a teacher? He's only one of the most famous musicians in the world. His basic biographical info. has been available for 3 decades. huh, I didn't see it, but tahnks anyways :)

I hum this when people hover over my shoulder at work. I have a thing with direct confrontation, so this tends to work.
andy summers rocks in this song.I like this riff, sounds more american than british
better than the original version
onde consigo baixar essa versão de 86??? . no ARES não consigo nunca. já tentei várias vezes. se alguem aí souber me passsa o link. valeu.
This is when Sting began dreamins of blue turtles... hence, the end of all the fun.
where?
81... was the shit... 86 ... EVEN FUCKING BETTER!!
@estyle40 i know, and I never even get sick of it
The Police have the sexiest songs I've ever heard
Well, i didnt know that fact ... He keeps suprising me ...I thought his history has its begining with Last Exit ...
@joshkosh95
They had to use a drum machine because Stuart Copeland fell off a horse and broke his arm... Him and sting fell out over what Drum machine to use, and they never recorded together again.
WHy can't I watch the original video?
i agree but they're two totally different songs (apart from the lyrics) the original is more funky i guess and not as serious. but i agree this one does sound alot better.... songs like these give me a gist of what livin' in the 80's was like
ego destroyed this band for 20yrs...
@jamib88: Agreed!

@jonahharper It was perfect for 1986, but not for me in the overall because I prefer the original version from 1980.
@SupernaturalLover67 Exactly, you can`t! It`s like, an unwritten law or somethin. LOL
this group rember me a latin rock group called Soda estereo they are from Argentina
There's no way. The Police version is def the best one.
wondering if they got dizzy :P
@hofsteveO They didn't use a drum machine. Sting favored his Synclavier and Copeland his Fairlight. Copeland won.
Like the original alot more, the chorus in the original is way better, but The police is still my favorite band.
God this is wierd.
I'm so used to the other version.
This almost sounds like a remake of it in a different era BY DIFFERENT PEOPLE!
360 likes!, 18 dislikes, Your the Mental one!!!
pretty cool. video is kinda cheesy though
13 People Stood Too close to Sting
"I want my own TV"...anyone? :D
I must admit, I did prefer this version to the original. Apologies to the hard-core Police fans...!
Nabokov...Escritor Russo. Autor Do LIvro LOLITA.
This sounds more like "Sting" than The Police, but then again the Police broke up partly due to this song, I mean look at it, there is nothing to do with Summers or Copeland, its all Sting. This is not the post-punk/reggae Police, but Stings "holier than though" sound. Either way I like both
Anyone else notice at 3:48 everyone's shoulders fade in and out of existence?
Yeah, that sucks :(
Sting is pretty fricken awesome, but they should have stayed together. Imagine what their music would be like now.
In a good way XD
What`s with the words? Who don`t know the words to this by now?
