    I’d argue this is one of the police’s most under appreciated songs. Sting’s vocals, the passionate lyrics and simple yet powerful instrumental creates for an amazing track.

      Problem is the real meaning of these lyrics is they are the thoughts of a stranger 'Martin' played by Sting who is obsessed with a family's severely disabled teenager whom he rapes twice and she miraculously recovers. It could also be constured that maybe she is obsessed with him even.... watch the movie Brimstone and Treacle and decide. Sting has said he believes the character, Martin, is the Devil.

    A dark masterpiece and one of the greatest Police songs. Stewart is amazing on this and the bridge is classic Sting as is his upright bass. Not crazy at all. Yes they should.I grew up in the 80’s and my best friend at the time had everything on the police, even Andy’s photog book called Throb. Police were her favorite band. I’d go over her very expensive house and we’d listen to this record (yes record cuz I’m older now lol) and early police records. She would tell me things about the band members and we’d both dream about going to the UK. They had the life and lots of fame but yes, they should do another album. Absolutely

    i'm certain now this was part of the the music for "Brimstone and Fire", a film based on Dennis Potters screenplay... that starred Sting and Denholm Elliot. Sting and Stewart Copeland had some cool and interesting forays into the world of film. I'm convinced that The Police track "Synchronicity 2" fits perfectly/lyrically with the tv special New Years Eve feature Sting starred in 1981 called "Artemis 81". In it, Sting plays an ethereal angel. So many of that song seems to relate to that films story, i wonder if it was ever considered for the films soundtrack, or was Sting /The Police inspired by his work on the film to make this song?

    • @eless6985
      @eless6985 2 года назад +2

      The 1982 film was "Brimstone and Treacle", not "Brimstone and Fire".

    Recorded during the Ghost In The Machine-period. Sting wrote it in 1976 for the band he then played in, Last Exit. He wrote it for his, then wife, Frances Tomelty. Not because someone in the band got gonorrhea, Liberty AboveAllElse! Do your homework properly, before making such stupid remarks!
