Volkswagen is on the right track with electrification, this van as eHybrid (why e?) is an interesting option for those that do plenty of short distances and need a van, but also, on occasion, might want to go long distance, for camping or whatever. I like the flexibility it offers!

But I wonder if 20-30 years from now it'll be as collectible and as iconic as the Kombi is.
I was 2x times in Poland during October 2022 with hybrid car, but there was problems with re-charging... charging stations are often outside highways, and even if I find one on the highway, it often doesn't work, or I need to register with another provider, which takes longer than refueling. Great video. To avoid the second row seats from not turning arround... Just buy extra seats for the 3rd row and use them as second with self mounted belts. Wouldn't this work? I would also buy a second middle tray to not share mine as a driver with the rear passengers.
I suppose you could buy these as extras, but not instead of regular 2nd row seats. I recall asking about a second table, and it would also be a dealer installed option, rather than a factory one. So it would cost more, than in the configurator. But yes, you could do that.
I like this time review almost 20 mins, not so short as before.. IMHO right format- not very short, not very long... And, review as is, lovely as usually.... P. S. my choice is a diesel... Why no manufacturers introduced diesel hybrids? Or diesel- electric drivertrain, like on ships?
Great to see you back! The first diesel hybrid I ever encountered was the Peugeot 508 RXH (one of my first video reviews - check it out, you'll have a good laugh ruclips.net/video/iJOBie9Z2Uk/видео.html). Interesting van. I do like the swappable slidy system. We mostly camp in our van, but it's nice to be able to take the bed out and use it as a van which we do quite often for moving timber or bikes. This would be a slicker system (although I wonder how much the rails fill up with crap...) We just about never do short trips (we have bicycles for that). So I really want a long-range EV, but they are in extremely short supply (Buzz cargo one day, maybe, at great expense). A hybrid would be nice, but this battery is uselessly small for our sort of usage (except for getting into/through cities that don't allow diesels any more). A Rex like the i3 - i.e a decent sized battery with the smallest possible engine for occasional use, makes more sense, but nobody makes such a thing.
The rails are going to fill with sand. I recall this was an issue in the T6, and the V Class (one of them had some sort of brushes within the rails to improve the sliding action). Basically you want to vacuum these rails properly once a week.
@@MarekDrivesENG One a week! Our van gets vacuumed twice a year if it's lucky. Hi Marek, Great review and your English is fantastic! Shame about some of the subtitles though - looks like you put it through some automatic translation app! Nice van, but I would still favour a minivan which is much more car-like and not such a brick to drive around, and not so high so it fits in underground carparks. The only European one that I know of these days is the Citroen SpaceTourer. Also, in the Citroen, you can fold the 5 rear seats flat into the floor without removing them and two people can camp in it.

Nice review, all the details I wanted to know are detailed in this review. Having a family of 5 with teenagers, there’s no such thing as “too much seats”. The price it´s a bit too much, but… it offers a lot and very different from their competitors. Do you advice any other model similar?
There's nothing else out there really. Maybe until the ID.Buzz LWB 7-seater comes along. But I'm not a fan of ID.Buzz in the first place. Overhyped, overpriced.
Awesome review again I especially appreciate your detail with the internal by mentioned even the official spec sheets don’t give this Although I did wish you had discussed the rear windows do they open? Cheers
Glad it was helpful! No, the rear windows don't open. I'm not sure, but there may be an optional small sliding window within the larger glass, like you get on the California. If it's not on the options list today, it could be added in the future. For now they aren't sure how to make the new California, because this car is already heavy enough without the extra weight from the roof bed and cabinets.
In this particular one you can remove the second row seats, and slide the third row forward. When configuring the car, you have to take into account seats with armrests and without armrests. A third seat will not fit between two seats with armrests.
Hi marek when you can please could you do a review on the new nissan x trail or the new toyota corolla cross thanks Lee and thank you for your brilliant reviews
Great video! I am almost convinced that this is my next car, not a 7 seater SUV. Just have to convince my other half 🤞 Was wondering if the panoramic glass roof can make it uncomfortable in the cabin on a hot sunny day? I really wish they made the sunroof openable for ventilation as the rear windows are fixed - and I am not a big fan of the hatch either.
Thanks. I don't have a comparison sunroof vs. without, but I suspect without is better for thermal comfort. I wish they were some shades to pull over it. Even those clumsy folding ones, like in the Skoda Fabia ruclips.net/video/sbRaZ77zOEA/видео.html
Perhaps its my American size orientation, or the fact that I drove a larger American Ford van and then a 13-ton Isuzu truck, as well as a Mercedes ML350 first gen, but to me driving my Metris (Vito) passenger van is very much like driving a large car, albeit easier to drive and more maneuverable. I’m not sure how it could be more car like. I mean it lacks a modern infotainment computer, but that to me is a plus.
From your perspective - maybe. Here in Europe the roads and parking spaces are much smaller. Also we have minivans like the S-Max, which put some sedans to shame in terms of handling. Nobody is trying to make this VW sporty, but no longer being based on a delivery van helps boost overall comfort. It's like driving an F-150 truck vs. the Ridgeline (I suppose).
Looks a lovely van we have a Ford galaxy God willing when we upgrade this could be the van but depending on the price I do t think it will be to cheep that's a downfall for a lot of people 👏😊thank you for the vid helpful to us💪
Hello Marek , you made a great review. I just want to ask you , can you give me little bit more information for the panoramic roof. It is OK to traveling for vacation In the summer with temperatures higher then 30-35 °C? I didn't see any info about this.
It's an option, and personally I would not choose it, because it forces you to use the climate control more, than with a full metal roof. I guess it depends on individual preferences. I'm sure it would be nice to see the mountain peaks, when travelling with kids, but when you're in the middle of the plains going 1000 km on the motorway, you may want some extra shade, and then you have to try and cover the panoramic roof (maybe with something like in the Skoda Fabia - ruclips.net/video/sbRaZ77zOEA/видео.html - perhaps VW even offers such covers, but I didn't see them on the options list). At one point I was driving, and the sun was at such a height that it blinded me through the glass section over the front seats.
@@MarekDrivesENG Thank you very much for your answer, it is very helpful for me . I will try to search such a cover if I decide to order with panoramic roof. Thank you again and continue with your good videos
Great review Marek, thank you! Question: About 8 mins in, you describe a foldable bed "coming in late 2022". Where did you get this information and who's going to make this (VW or 3rd party) and where can I find more details about it? Thanks again.
OK, so VW got back to me. Yes, it's going to be made by VW. No, they don't know the price yet. Not even a ballpark figure. My suggestion: look for similar aftermarket solutions for the T6, and multiply the price by two :)
Hi. I was wondering if anyone has a T7 PHEV and could answer some questions... Does it have a 'camp mode' or any way to run the AC from the hybrid battery? Does it have any internal 240v sockets? Thanks!
We used to have that patterned old thermos and if memory serves, it was Polish-built. Nowadays you guys only do non-essential stuff like LG TV sets, AEG washing machines and Rowenta fans. Come to think of it, only my fridge is not built in Poland 😅 And everything works perfectly, like an old thermos. Q: Is it possible two put two movable consoles with tables? That's very clever solution.
I always thought those thermoses were Chinese (as in from a brotherly communist state in exchange for whatever we produced). I haven't seen two-table option in the configurator, but since it's a separate unit that can be removed, I imagine you could buy an extra one. Not sure it's worth it though (price and space wise).
I asked VW about the extra table. They said you can order only one table with the car, when it's signed off for production, but you can order another table as accessory. I'd check with the dealer, if there's some electronic wizardry involved, which requires you to order one table for production, before you can install one after you take delivery of the car. I noticed there's a sensor, which detects if the table is open, when it is between the front seats. If it was me, I'd make the rail sensors standard across the board, but I imagine it could save a few cents not to include those sensors, which would then somehow prevent you from installing a table. So double check with the dealer.
Does it come from the factory with solar on top to charge the batt pack on days when you don't drive it or when you have it parked at work? With that much roof space you could easily get ten to twenty miles a day of free charge from the sun.
No, and no. I did some rough calculations based on the Sono Motors Sion solar car claims. The roof area of a car like this Multivan is enough to fit panels for maybe 2 kWh worth of energy. That's on a sunny day, perfect conditions, parked in direct sunlight (suboptimal for cooling later, though theoretically you could just use the excess energy to pre-condition the car). Anyway, 2 kWh on a sunny summer day (may vary depending on where in the world you live), assuming you're parked in the middle of an empty parking lot, because when you're driving there may be some trees or taller vehicles next to you casting a shadow. Maybe you'd harvest 5-6 miles.
@@MarekDrivesENG The Hyundai Sonata hybrid has a tiny roof and that car gets 3 miles a day and it would get much more than that but it has an insanely small batt pack on it.
Does it say it gets 3 miles a day or have you actually experienced it? If you look at say home PV panels and those smaller travel panels that you can use to top up something like a Jackery, you'll see the size and the output. I assume for a car it's going to be something in the middle. Also, you have to park in direct sunlight, which is not something a normal person would do, having a choice o parking in the shade. And we're still talking perfect sunny weather. I have solar panels on my roof, and even when I'm not at home, I can see every cloud in my app. The dips in energy production sun vs. cloud are enormous. If you look at Hyundai's website, they say these produce 200 Wh. tech.hyundaimotorgroup.com/article/everything-about-the-sonata-hybrids-solar-roof/ This is going to get theoretical, because the Sonata is a HEV not a PHEV, and it's therefore lighter, etc. BUT let's assume for the brief moments it uses the electric motor, it will consume about 7 kWh per 100 km. So you're producing 1/35 of the energy consumed. Also, as this is a HEV, the charging and discharging of the battery is much quicker, and the petrol engine may already have to kick in, while driving to top up the battery. That said, if you park in direct sunlight, this type of roof panel may help run air conditioning, thus leaving a bit more energy to be used for moving the car.
If you spec the two middle seats to be facing backwards can they be spun around to be facing forwards? I have 3 kids so for local journeys I want them facing forwards but long journeys facing backwards so they can all play games etc.
I hope the T7 eHybrid commercial van will come with some kind of TDI engine and not a 1.4 TSI as it will be gutless and won't even hold 1 ton without struggling.
@@MarekDrivesENG I understand that but if they are going to offer a PHEV, it should be a diesel PHEV, like the Mercedes-EQ 'DE' lineup (E300de and similar)
I’ve ordered one. Waiting for the delivery date as certain global events are slowing processes and some components like the 360 camera are unavailable right now :( after my test drive I found that android auto is much simpler than the vw system so will stick with that. Also you lose that top cubby on the dash if you chose the harmon kardon Soundsystem
@@MarekDrivesENG it’s an option at the moment. However I didn’t take it, I don’t need a party bus :) looking forward to being to cart the family and visitors around soon!
Yes, if it's the 7 seat option. Middle seat from the 3rd row can also be used in the 2nd row. The ones with the integrated seatbealts are a bit more narrow
We don't get this box in Canada. I guess it's just too expensive to attract interest. Which makes me wonder about how well the Buzz will sell… if we ever get the Buzz. It's taking forever for VW to even deliver the ID4 here. I still haven't seen one driving around the streets of Toronto. And they've stopped taking orders for the 2021 and 2022s 2 months ago. LOL. The rumour is the Chattanooga plant starts full production in August. Deliveries if the EV6, Ioniq 5, Q4 and i4 are also massively delayed. I just saw the new BMW X1 and iX1. That's looking like a big improvement. But again, no iX1 for Canada... Could you ask BMW Germany why they hate us in Canada?
@@MarekDrivesENG I actually got a chance to test drive the ID4 AWD but I had to drive 45 min to Brampton and it was a 2min test drive because they gave me the vehicle with 3% battery. LOL. The dealership gave the car to another customer during my appointment time. As for sold products on the streets, I think there might be 30 in a city of 5 million. I’ve seen 2 Ioniq 5s driving around downtown.
@KevinN the most popular EV these days on the streets of Warsaw seems to be... Mustang Mach-E. Ford doesn't talk to me, so I don't know what the car is like for longer, but the short time behind the wheel I got with it - it seemed like a very pleasant car. Much better, than VW ID series, which I consider a huge disappointment. I was on the waiting list for the 1st Edition ID.3, but with all the delays and covid restrictions I cancelled my order. I don't regret it.
@@MarekDrivesENG interesting. The Mach E though is 15k dollars more. I’m trying to withhold my opinion on the ID 4 because the part that was not developed well was the software and that apparently has been changed quite a bit. The wife does like the Ioniq 5, she says it’s too funky and the EV6 got a “are you trying to be 20 again” comment from the wife. I like the BMW i4 and my friend would probably get my a good deal on one but those rear seats are really tight. I suppose the Q4 could be an option as well but that’s 10-15k more.
@@MarekDrivesENG Yeah, the word "mini" should be reserved for below 4.7m in length. I do not understand why there is no "short" version. My next vehicle might be the class of Toyota Noah. Big enough for usable three rows but small enough for daily usage.
Thank you for the video. Again, the PHEV variant is a joke. 13 kWh on such a big vehicle is pretty much useless. The Outlander PHEV had such a size almost ten years ago. Wake up, car makers!
1:09 Why the can't just do as the first one? Look how much windows, light inside, nice "friendly" design of this world it had, (not trying to do an outergalaxy design.) Why they can't just redesign the first van as it was and cram inside an electromotor and everybody happy. Look what has done the Chinese with the Ora Beetle (okay the inside is like some 'meriken cars of the 60-ties, but overall it is nice, better than the WV new Beetle. More ahead they goes with the designs more crap they became. The designers imposes uglyness and masses (with their manipolated brains) silently accepts (and they believe they are "zmardt.") This thing loox as a "nothing" on wheels rolling on the road, and inside it loox as a hypertechno crap just to make the (poor) people inside feel dumb, naturally this thing is fully zmardt, right? Just look at that very zmardt expression on his face at 4:50 while waiting the door closing by itself.)
Sunroof that you can't close ??? At night driving in city all these lights will wake up your kids from sleeping while shine in theyr faces. T7 not a family car.
Impressive interior variability. Too bad VW forces the silly touch controls. With normal knobs and buttons for key functions I'd seriously consider facelifted version. I know it is just a dream :(
New multivan is a multi-flop! None are on the road.. not enough luggage space in 7 seat and side door too small. Poor seat design for carrying 7 adults. Flimsy interior is citroen quality.. Commercial dealers selling a car? They arent interested. The Multivan and New Transporter / Transit has destroyed the VW van brand... A "new coke" moment on how to kill your brand...
The dashboard looking like old thermos - perfect association ! Thanks for the review - very good. Best regards from Wrocław!

Looks a lovely van we have a Ford galaxy God willing when we upgrade this could be the van but depending on the price I do t think it will be to cheep that's a downfall for a lot of people 👏😊thank you for the vid helpful to us💪
Fingers crossed!
VW are never 'cheap'.
Am considering it for business as a private hire driver but the prices still very high
My pleasure!
Great review Marek, thank you!
Question: About 8 mins in, you describe a foldable bed "coming in late 2022". Where did you get this information and who's going to make this (VW or 3rd party) and where can I find more details about it?
Thanks again.
It's something I saw in VW press materials for this car. No idea, who's making it. I'll ask around after the weekend.
@@MarekDrivesENG Brilliant, much appreciated.
OK, so VW got back to me. Yes, it's going to be made by VW. No, they don't know the price yet. Not even a ballpark figure.
My suggestion: look for similar aftermarket solutions for the T6, and multiply the price by two :)
@@MarekDrivesENG Great news and very exciting. Thank you for following up on this!
@@MarekDrivesENG EDIT: My mother still keeps it and uses it. Tough little thermos. And yeah, it's made in Polska Rzeczpospolita Ludowa 😊
If you look at Hyundai's website, they say these produce 200 Wh.
tech.hyundaimotorgroup.com/article/everything-about-the-sonata-hybrids-solar-roof/
This is going to get theoretical, because the Sonata is a HEV not a PHEV, and it's therefore lighter, etc.
Yes, if you specify the middle row with seatbelts integrated in the seats, these can be spun around.
I hope the T7 eHybrid commercial van will come with some kind of TDI engine and not a 1.4 TSI as it will be gutless and won't even hold 1 ton without struggling.
I don't think commercial vehicle emissions count the same, as in passenger cars, so they should have a bit more wiggle room in terms of engine choice.
@@MarekDrivesENG I understand that but if they are going to offer a PHEV, it should be a diesel PHEV, like the Mercedes-EQ 'DE' lineup (E300de and similar)
@Aidan I think VW and diesel is not something they want people to talk about much :)
And how's the HK audio availability?
@@MarekDrivesENG it’s an option at the moment. However I didn’t take it, I don’t need a party bus :) looking forward to being to cart the family and visitors around soon!
Fingers crossed it arrives quickly. Cool car.
I also reviewed the Volkswagen T7 in my channel, I have to say it's quite expensive for what it is. The quality was there! But the equipment was not
Is it possible to have three seats on the second row?
Apparently no. It's only 2-2-2, 2-2-3 or 2-1-3 configurations.
@@MarekDrivesENG Thank you! It is a little weird though...
Yes, if it's the 7 seat option. Middle seat from the 3rd row can also be used in the 2nd row. The ones with the integrated seatbealts are a bit more narrow
👍👍👍👍👍
If you're short, isn't it just as hard to push the button?
That's always a possibility. Jeep puts the tailgate button on the inside of the D-pillar, which makes sense for vertically challenged.
More power, more ground clearance and 4motion. Then it will be perfect.
@TEVAssociation Paul, you've driven the ID.4 in Toronto. How did you get your hands on one? A press loaner or a dealer car?
True, it is about a 3rd more expensive here, than the base ID.4.
Next best thing to VW IDbuzz ..too bad it's not imported to North America !
I still don't understand why VW does not offer sliding door minivans on the Japanese market.
This is hardly a minivan.
@@MarekDrivesENG
Yeah, the word "mini" should be reserved for below 4.7m in length.
I do not understand why there is no "short" version.
My next vehicle might be the class of Toyota Noah. Big enough for usable three rows but small enough for daily usage.
this is a large passaat gte:))
Thank you for the video. Again, the PHEV variant is a joke. 13 kWh on such a big vehicle is pretty much useless. The Outlander PHEV had such a size almost ten years ago. Wake up, car makers!
It is exactly what I think 👍
Maybe the newer battery has a greater energy density?
@@mos3993 Then it may be smaller in size or weight, but 13 kWh are 13 kWh no matter what.
PHEV might be for people who want to convert the T7 into a camper, a 13kWh battery would be great platform to build on.
4x4?
transporter base is lot beater this like toyota minivan
VW means ,,Dieselgate'' .
It'll be a few years until west coast hippies turn up in these at that price though!
They better start putting money aside now :)
Ahahha that German Web page name ahahhahahaha
1:09 Why the can't just do as the first one? Look how much windows, light inside, nice "friendly" design of this world it had, (not trying to do an outergalaxy design.) Why they can't just redesign the first van as it was and cram inside an electromotor and everybody happy. Look what has done the Chinese with the Ora Beetle (okay the inside is like some 'meriken cars of the 60-ties, but overall it is nice, better than the WV new Beetle.
More ahead they goes with the designs more crap they became. The designers imposes uglyness and masses (with their manipolated brains) silently accepts (and they believe they are "zmardt.")
This thing loox as a "nothing" on wheels rolling on the road, and inside it loox as a hypertechno crap just to make the (poor) people inside feel dumb, naturally this thing is fully zmardt, right? Just look at that very zmardt expression on his face at 4:50 while waiting the door closing by itself.)
Yeah, the ID.Buzz is what you want.
It’s no Kia carnival. Shame we can’t buy it in Europe 😒
I know it is just a dream :(
They lost 360 turning seats and bed. It's going backwards. What variability you are talking about ?
Marek Drives in English : VW should be charged with fraud for selling a WEAK 1,5 litre 150HP lawn mower engine for this 2,2 TONE van !!!!
As an T6 owner this car looks like huge downgrade to me. Not as versatile and practical allrounder as its predecessors was.
Omg I wrote almost the exact same comment..... My t6 is far superior In every way... How can they mess this up so bad.
Nasty plastic Iveco table style
Why did they go with these cheap seats you can not turn around or recline all the way back ? This is not family car.
dislike modern vw camper vans
It has never been looking so cheap ever before. Plastic + plastic + plastic.
Overpriced.
To be honest this seems like a downgrade in so many ways from my t6.... It's missing so many great features.
Too small for the price and too expensive for what it is
New multivan is a multi-flop!
