- Metrorail is a rapid transit system in Miami and Miami-Dade County in the U.S. state of Florida. Metrorail is operated by Miami-Dade Transit (MDT), a departmental agency of Miami-Dade County. Opened in 1984, it is Florida's only rapid transit metro system, and is currently composed of two lines of 23 stations on 24.4 miles (39.3 km) of standard gauge track. Metrorail serves the urban core of Miami, connecting Miami International Airport, the Health District, Downtown Miami, and Brickell with the northern developed neighborhoods of Hialeah and Medley to the northwest, and to suburban The Roads, Coconut Grove, Coral Gables, and South Miami, ending at urban Dadeland in Kendall. Metrorail connects to the Metromover in Downtown, which provides metro service to the entirety of Downtown and Brickell. Additionally, it connects to South Florida's commuter rail system at Tri-Rail station, as well as Metrobus routes at all stations. In 2022, the system had 11,951,400 rides, and about 45,400 per day in the third quarter of 2023.
In 2012, Metrorail opened its 23rd station, Miami International Airport station, at Miami International Airport (MIA), beginning service on a newly created 16-station Orange Line between the MIA and Dadeland South stations. The new line has helped increase ridership significantly, adding millions of riders per year and allowing residents and visitors alike direct access from MIA to Downtown Miami, as well as greater connectivity between various modes of transit throughout Miami-Dade County. The station provides direct service to Tri-Rail commuter rail, Greyhound Lines intercity bus, and the Rental Car Center.

At first I did not like the design of the new cars, but now I think these will age well. I love the fountain shot. Its just tragic our politics prevented true TOD from forming around most of these stations while tax breaks are handed out for oversized monster cars.
the Metrorail is always very convenient especially when transferring from Tri-Rail to go to downtown Miami (or at least it was more convenient, now there's Tri-Rail service to MiamiCentral lol) either way I still love riding the Metrorail and especially like the acceleration sounds on the newer cars
gotta love my cities metro system, wish it was bigger tho (obviously)
Remember we did Vote for a Metrorail Expansion in 2002 passing a half -Cent Sales Tax just for Transit. The system was supposed to be Double what it is today.
Douglas Road Station floors looking fresh
Miami is my hometown and this brings back memories of 2004-2006 when I was a Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus-Downtown student and would take the metrorail (old budd model trains) from Earlington Heights Station to Government Center and transfer to the metromover to go to classes or all the way south usually to University station to go to buy my architecture design class school supplies🙂👍🏾. The good ole innocent days lol
Cool. Visted Miami, rode the Metro Mover and was impressed with the convenience of getting around Downtown. A shame it hasn't been expanded.
@@ACLTony I agree hopefully that changes.
@@ACLTony They have announced the next Expansions will be to to South Beach & Wynwood.
I feel you. I used to go from Palmetto Station all the way to Omni using the Metrorail and Metromover. Stopping at Government Center. Good memories back in 2011.
Very nice catching South Florida's only heavy rail system! If you haven't already, can you explore the recent Tri Rail Miami Central station? It looks really nice and is something to appreciate! 🙂
i like the elevator response at 4:46
The Elevator and that Station got Renovate Last year
Fun fact. The United States only has 16 large rapid transit systems serving and operating in 16 cities/metropolitan areas. One being in a U.S. territory (Puerto Rico).
I believe there are only 12 US Cities with Heavy Rail systems not 16.
I'll be riding these trains in late April when I go there for a week vacation.
Miami has a long way to go. These trains literally go nowhere. Smh
Great system. Love the newer cars.💙👌
3:59 I don't think Metrorail blows that too often...
These subway cars are much more attractive than the previous models, which were nearly identical to the MARTA units in Atlanta.
Marta trains are getting to change soon too.
@@allenmondesirCool! Their current cars have racked up a lot of miles.
Unlike New York subway the Miami metrorail doesn't have problems with rats
they have problems with lizards lol
I remember seeing rats in the New York subways. Those rats were the size of a bread box.
@@ramsese41 pigeons too 😅
I never got to ride the Metrorail or the People Mover but, I got to ride Tri-Rail from Miami Airport to Hollywood. I also got to ride the S bus that runs from North Miami Beach to South Miami Beach.
In case you didn't know the S bus is now 100 bus
I used to always ride the S and H bus when I was back home and I did hear from friends and family back home in Miami that they did make some changes to route names and letters.
1:34 it sounds like the high pitched R142 acceleration correct me if I'm wrong but it sounds like it tho.
It's so clean.
I’ve found Florida as a whole to be very clean which surprised me
@@guinessbeer Why is that surprising? Florida has always been a very "Clean" state.
gta 6 leaks??
If GTA 6 Have the Metrorail, I would like the game more
@@R262SubwayTrain well according to the leaks, they have a metro, referring to the metro rail i think.
Lolol
@@edeepieie pretty certain it's gonna be modelled around the metromover instead of the rail
@@Lckii1kI just hope they make it a long expansive metro/subway that covers most of the map like the Liberty City Subway in GTA 4.
Those newer cars look like there from 2014. If I saw new cars I'd expect led front lights, like the new NYC trains. 😊
I remember talking to a security guard who worked at one of the stops. He told me the story about a Ricky Martin video that was being filmed there. Ricky wanted to do a stunt with a woman he was dancing with; the woman was to stand at the edge of the platform and do a wide angle turn just seconds before the train sped away. The security guard wasn’t sure about the stunt, so he called the City transportation authority and the guy from the County told him NO. When he relayed the message to the director of the video, the director tried to get the security guard to look the other way but the security guard didn’t waver and he called the City transportation authority again. This time, the director of the music video talked to the City transportation authority. The director had no choice but to break down the production and move on. Ricky Martin was not happy. Considering the cost of the equipment and everything, I wasn’t surprised.
Nice post!
Fork’s he also has Miami MetroRail videos in action from 2016.
If you think this is his first time doing this wrong this is his second time doing this.
No electronic announcements?
The old Budd cars they used were 75ft long, are the new Hitachi cars 75ft as well?
