I just purchased/built this Enduro: Gatekeeper builders kit. It. Is. awesome. Ive built arrma, traxx, axial, redcat, kyosho and have been driving so many others over the years, this gatekeeper build kit has its hiccups but all in all it is a solid piece of RC performance that will keep up with the best you have to offer. There is room for all kinds various alterations, tunings and upgrades. I wouldve made changes from the factory but the same can be said for every single factory RC on the market. This build is worth your money if youre into the hobby. I compare to the redcat wendigo kit or axial wraith spawn 2.2. Take some time and thought when choosing electronics, tires and other components. Do not always trust the instruction manual. Use your knowledge and experience and intuition when the book starts to confuse you, and trust me, it will.
I ordered my Gatekeeper today! I've been wanting one and just finally couldn't resist 😁 this will be my second build. First one was the Axial SCX10ii, and I love that truck! Thanks for another great video Brett! 🤘
Just purchased the Hobbywing esc-motor combo from Amain, 35 kg no name servo (I have several of those, no issues so far) Flysky waterproof receiver, that will be #7 for the radio and the mounted Proline Hyrax tires. Probably will do the 11.somthing overdrive. This will be the start, of course, subject to future mods!
Wow looks pretty cool!!! We are waiting for my daughter's Capra to be delivered, but I think I might have to get one of these for my self!!!! Great review Bret!!!
Nice! That would be an interesting comparison between those two. The Capra is amazing except for the difficulty of accessing the insides. That DIG though... Happy R/C'ing with the family JD! -Brett
That thing is pretty cool, I am planning to build a nitro crawler from a Redcat Gen 8 with a Toyan 4 stroke nitro engine, I know your videos don't talk about that but things in some videos gave me some very clever ideas!!! Keep up the great videos!!!!:)
I converted my RC4WD Gelande II to a rear trailing arm setup based on aluminum bomber trailing arms and longer top links. It was a bruuuute but I didn’t have a sway bar for it so I ended up removing it (also because I kept snapping aluminum knuckles)but that thing bumped up anything.
The only backordered part for the scx24 on your site that has an arrival date and when it’s expected to ship are the bead lock wheels... does that mean all the other parts you guys dont know when you’ll get more stock of?
Hi and thank you for your great videos. Question, do you think an Hobbywing Fusion 550 on 3s would be a nice motor for this Gatekeeper, as its could be super smooth for crawling and still get power when wanna have fun trail? Will it fit? Thanks again for ur help.
For all the power and waterproofing. We've always wanted to use one for a build but haven't had the chance until now. It's amazing and will last us a long time with other builds in the future. -Brett
Congrats Jeremy! It's a great rig. For the paint, it's been a while so the memory is a little fuzzy, but I think it was this: www.amainhobbies.com/tamiya-ps49-sky-blue-anodized-aluminum-lexan-spray-paint-100ml-tam86049/p125438 We backed it with white or silver. -Brett
Hi Brett nice video. I have ordered this kit in Europe. Still waiting... I want to install the SSD RC 2.2 Wide Assassin Beadlock Wheels (SSD00185) with some 2.2. tires. What lenght wheel hub extender will be sufficient to clear the 2.2 wheel travel? Did you try the SSD +6mm Wheel Hubs w/Scale Rotor with the 2.2 tires? Keep up the good work!
No, we didn't have any 2.2" SSD Wheels to try. We did install the +6mm hubs with the 1.9" though, without issue and looking good. The +6mm are probably a must with the SSD 2.2"s. -Brett
They're pretty different. They each use caged bodies, but the Capra doesn't swing up. This is the only downside to the Capra, it's tough to work on inside the cage and it's not easy to access. But the Capra is very capable, with wide axles, great scale looks and a DIG unit. The Capra also uses a 4-link rear suspension, where this Gatekeeper doesn't. We have some videos on the Capra here on our channel. But i'd say the Capra is more of a beefed-up crawler, where the Gatekeeper is designed for lots of wheel speed and power. The difference between crawling up the rock, and jumping up; in theory at least. Hope that helps Neo. -Brett
Element recommends an 18T pinion, like this one: www.amainhobbies.com/protek-rc-48p-lightweight-hard-anodized-aluminum-pinion-gear-3.17mm-bore-18t-ptk-8605/p1125823?v=1125802 Page 7 of the manual, Gate 04. -Brett
I ordered one today, but i do have a question about the battery trays, some say the big one doesnt fit, so you can only use the smaller one. Is that correct?
The larger battery tray fits, but may rub depending on how big of tires you use. You could also limit your steering throw so the tires can't rub, and that would be done with your transmitter, if it has dual rate or EPA function. If you can use the small battery tray, the vehicle performance will be optimal. -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies what do you say about the fact that the large battery tray is significantly wider than the roll cage? With the full tray its impossible to rotate the cage down to the chassis, the bottom of the cage hits the top of the battery tray and prevents the cage from going any lower. Something is definitely a miss here. I believe that in order to use the full size tray it must be mounted in the rear rather than the front and must also be trimmed back to accomodate the narrow cage even in the rear. This seems counter productive, it messes with your cg and front weight distribution, it essentially takes away the function and purpose of your battery tray and forces you to actually damage brand new parts. Perhaps my kit is somehow different than the others but it is absolutely impossible to use the large battery tray with this truck unless you make modifications to the cage/battery tray - the trade off isnt worth it to me. I chose to buy shorty pack batteries to use the truck the way it was intended - one should assume that professional reviewers at AMainHobbies would notice this issue if they had actually attempted to install the full battery tray or simply compare its width to that of the assembled roll cage - somethings a miss here. Let me know if you find a proper way to use full size batteries with this truck, thank you and happy trialing !
@@jaredlucky9990 Wow, interesting. We did not try the full size battery tray. Generally it's safe to say parts included, are parts that fit. Putting the tray in the back wouldn't be a good move for performance, so it really should be used in the front. Does it look like some dremel work would get it to fit, or is it way off? -Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies lol those were my thoughts exactly. Why include a full size battery tray that is completely unusable with the tube chassis!? And noy mention anywhere in the manual that to use the full size tray requires sendero or other body. It would be possible to use the full size tray with tube chassis but you run into a few undesireables : requires cutting out a significant/important structural portion of the tube chassis and the corrosponding body panels then you have to figure out what to do with your wires as theyll be hanging fully outside the tube chassis, plus the whole rig will now look a bit strange with batt/tray/wires all extending outside the widest part of the tube chassis. One possible way to mitigate this is to widen the tube chassis with spacers but this would require 20 or more spacers and extra modifactions to mounting positions either on the lower chassis or the tube chassis itself. Seems to me that if youre intent on using a full size batt with this particular rig that you will have to make a few sacrifices - if you dont mind the modding or changing weight distribution then id say go for it. But i run 2700 3s shorty packs and they rip so my opinion and recommendation is to leave everything stock in that regard and simply spring for a couple shorty packs. I was able find a 4pak of 2s 1500 shorty online for 40$ great price but i havnt bought them so i cant attest to the quality of those batteries.
@@jaredlucky9990 Thanks for letting us know Jared. It's disappointing to know the tray doesn't fit; why even include it then? I imagine most people will use the short tray but still, it's nice to have options. -Brett
