WOW ! That thing sticks in the corners and accellerates like lightning 🌩! Time to build one 👍
These build series videos need to continue on the channel! I love being able to watch the continued improvement, and learning about the actual tuning that goes into the car and what difference that tuning then makes on the track. It really makes me feel like I'm learning more about the hobby from a competitive and casual perspective at the same time. 10/10
Here is another tire tip for you! Though the pushing and aggressive steering feels like it's only coming from the front wheels, it's not necessarily doing that. It you look closer at the photos from EOS you can see the drivers cutting off the inner and outer row of their cactus rear tyres. This will help with removing some off the edgyness off the car, add some extra forward grip to the rear tyres and remove some of that aggressive steering. If it's still traction rolling, another tip is to try the cactus fusion front tires(currently EOS-4wd tyres), glue the outer wall and as you mention, maybe cut off the outer row😀
Great tips Peter, thanks!
-Brett
Just read this comment after I commented the same thing. Great idea!
Thats what I like about our hobby. Its thinking outside the box testing different options that are not clearly on the store shelf
Run the Schumacher Cactus Fusion front tires and glue the side walls with CA glue to remove edginess, keep the cactus tites in the rear and cut the inner and outer rows off of them to prevent traction rolling. This is what the majority of the drivers run on EOS
If you run the wide staggers, cut every other spike on the outer row to start with.
Although, all of these tires sucks in durability, maximum usage is 5-6 batteries before getting completely worn out.
Great tips, thank you!
-Brett
No, no, no, just put glue on the sidewall of the tyre. That‘s what works best by far! 🤙 Best front tyre for 4WD carpet racing is Schumacher Fusion by the way. This tyre plus glue on the sidewall provides great steering without traction rolling. 😉
The car looks great and so dam fast, almost like an video game racer with this grip. Wish there were tracks closer to me to try.
I just never understood why it’s called off road... 90% of track is completely flat and buggy with 8mm of clearance wouldn’t go far in actual off road scenario.
yes
totally sounds like bullshit.
Historic reasons, these carpet/astroturf-tracks evolved out of clay/dirt-tracks. Afaik it began in europe because there are less indoor tracks and maintaining carpet outdoors is a lot easier than clay/dirt when it's raining every other day. I'd love to see more clay/dirt tracks all over the world but the difference in upkeep is pretty massive, also takes a lot longer to clean, especially if it rained the day before.
Try driving a touring car around that track ;) it's called off road because its not on road.
hahahaha.. dang it Brett. You're such a goober and I love it. "Who am I?..." and "Bleh! Guh! Yuk! Old servo!"
I love how he hates that it's a discontinued part, but if you fly quads 99% of people run gopro sessions that have been discontinued for almost 4 years now, and a lot of the people I fly nitro planes with are running old discontinued .46 super tigers, or magnums
I like these build series a lot. Even though this is not my style of racing you can still pick up on tips and tricks. Maybe for the next build series you can do a solid axle monster truck?! Keep up the amazing work!
You could put supper glue around the edges of the outside and that could take out some of the steering
Nice update video Brett, couldn't agree with you more on the tires. On my 22X-4 the only way it's driveable is with worn Wide Stagger Ribs. My B74.1 runs pretty well with the Proline Wedges, but got a set of Schumachers to try next.
Good tip! Do you use worn proline wedges too, or new'ish is ok?
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies I’m running newish wedges. Z3 compound.
To sand down the front tires, mount the wheel to a power source for example a drill chuck and give it power on top of aggressive grit sand paper. By doing this, they’ll be even and won’t Have some sections that are grippier than others, leading to inconsistency.
I am really enjoying this series. I love rc stuff. From India.
Greetings from USA!
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies hey guys! greetings from australia.. please check out our aussie channel 🙂
you should cut the tread on the edges of the tires and smear them with glue to make them harder, front bald in teh middle, big 5 from Poland! :)
Good idea! We have added glue to the tires and tested the results in our latest Part 3 video. Check it out!
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies thats what im talking about! :) whats the stock engine? 17,5T? We use 13,5t...
Hey Brett, so at my local rc carpet track if u go and put glue on the side walls up to about the first tread it prevents traction rolling and dims down the steering a little
Interesting! Never heard of that but will need to give it a try!
-Brett
Your buggy is coming along really well. There are definitely a lot of tricks to the trade to learn. Your viewers know a thing or two about the buggy racing world.
Try Fusion front tires from Shum! That are the ones we use on EOS carpet.
Love your videos Brett!! Great info
these series have been awesome, Brett killin' it as usual!
Awesome video!! You're one of the best RC channels on youtube!! The B74.1 is an incredibly fast car round the track!! Look forward to part 3!! Keep up the outstanding work!! 👍👊😉
How much faster is the 4wd compared to 2wd?
I use the Schumacher Cactus Fusion 2.2" Front 1/10 4WD Turf Buggy Tire at my local carpet track that has Very High grip. Compared to the staggers, it makes the car less aggressive and drive less off the front end , but still has a ton of steering.
Get the jconcepts twin pins and 4wd swaggers without front inserts, and glue the front sidewalls
YES! Great Video Brett. Modify those fronts and have fun racing! AE B74.1 looks great, I'll be seeing a few B74.1D at our local clay dirt track this week.
Will do! It will be interesting to feel the difference. Good luck at the track!
-Brett
As far as steering on the 74.1, I also found it really twitchy the first time driving it, but a 0.2 expo on the steering got it feeling just right. It was really the high speed sweepers that the turn in was too high, not tight 180s.
Wow that’s beautiful
I love the videos.
Awesome. Thanks for watching Tanner.
-Brett
Here in the UK we don't run the wide cut staggers on Carpet.
We run the Schumacher Fusion front.
You may also want to trim the outer and inner pins off the rear cactus tyre.
Great, thanks for the tip. Someone else mentioned those tires too. Once they're available again, we'll give them a shot.
-Brett
Love these build series you are doing Plz do more!!! 😉👍
Wow that's awesome! 😉 Tune up time in the laboratory of technology.🧐🎸🎶⚡🔥
Awesome job with this build 🏎💨💪🏼💯🔥 love this buggy
Yeeee Hah congrats Clive! Nice catch! Very cool Amain!
Next buggy on my list. Love the video Brett
Pin front tires are much faster then wedges for 4wd. Could always try the newer hybrid style tires aswell
Much stiffer front swaybar and more frontcaster and change rollcenter will help!
On high bite surface i cut the outer row of the staggers with a micro cutter, then dremel the remaining material so it's even.
Easy fix, put expo on the steering.. start small and add more till it turns just right bit can still yank it over when needed.
Brett in Germany we use Schumacher Cactus Fusion ( yellow ) on the front you dont have to cut anything on the tires with them and it works great for EOS Carpet, maybe give it a try
Awh, interesting tire. Thanks for the tip! When the tire returns in stock, we'll give it a go.
-Brett
Try the Schumacher fusion front tires, and also give the Reef's RC 299LP servo a shot.
That is an impressive servo. Good tips! Thanks.
-Brett
Try the Schumacher Cactus Fusion Tires in the front and place glue on the outer edge, add more glue as needed, I did one line of glue and they work mint.
Did you remove the outside row of nobbies, then glue; or just glue?
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies I just used clue I didn't cut them
That was my car! You should try Cactus fusion front tyres with some glue on the side wall!
Hello Michal! Thank you for the tire advice and pointing out your buggy. We are trying to learn the ways of the carpet and your photos were a big help. Once the Fusion are in stock, we will try them. Do you trim or sand the outside of the Fusion tire? Or only apply CA?
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Hi Brent, we only put glue on the side wall. We don’t trim the Cactus fusions! Always happy to help, if You have any more questions!
no foam inserts in the front tires also calms down the front end on carpet.
Also little side note. I wasn't aware the Reedy RT1508 was discontinued, The servo is currently still available on Team Associated. New updated versions of their servos are on the way, however I heard the RT1508 was not getting updated just restocked.
That would only create more drag and more grip because of a bigger contact area
@@martin3288 That's what all the pros said to do at Thunder Road.
@@hinsie4268 well im not a pro driver so it is probably a good solution but in theory it would create more grip
@@martin3288 'Theory' means nothing until you put it in practice - removing the foams on carpet is a common way to reduce aggressive steering. 👍
Great Video. Keep up the good work :)
How about slower servo and turn down the amount of travel .I would mount the tire on a old cvd axle end and chuck it up in a drill and use a sanding stick to trim the tire( to the amount off you want)
Maybe you could use touring car tires for the front i think that would help
Great series!! Please keep them coming, ordered my first car in 20 from you guys. Great customer service! Arma senton 3s blx. What next? Any suggestions? Would love to start racing, about an hr away from Hutto TX. You guys do a great job and u sir make great vids!!
Congrats! The Senton is a fun 4X4 truck that you could definitely race. For upgrades, a stronger servo is always welcome and maybe even a solid metal servo horn (instead of the servo saver horn on there now) for a tighter and more precise steering. Metal driveshafts are a great upgrade over the plastic ones and they'll last a lot longer too. Some people convert the 14mm wheel hexes to the more standard 17mm size for greater tire/wheel compatibility, although i'm not sure how beneficial that will be for a short course truck. Just some ideas! Let me know what you think.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Thanks! Yes that sounds great, I was actually loosing wheels with the hub still in so put lock tight on the screws, I know which ones but not the name? Yeah working in them is part of the fun, i forgot! But yes absolutely those up grades will be the first I work on, thanks so much for your help! There’s a little bit of diff fluid (I think) seeping out from the seal I guess? Is that a prob? I’ve got my sons and wife hooked now so gonna need some new rides. Do you guys carry all the parts you mentioned, all those are needed I can tell. Drive shaft, the wheel deal and def the servo. Maybe a bigger servo? More torque. What do you think? Brett thanks so much!

yeah a really nice build! Neat practical etc. Ehmm but the B74.1 kit is ehmmm.. it is discontinued! Can i have it now!? :D

Wow! 1775 grams is just shy of 4 pounds! Thats crazy light.
I'm curious how well an outdoor carpet track works. I am assuming rain puts it out of commission for a day or two just like clay right?
As long as it's dry, it's a great surface. The high wind can cause issues sometimes, blowing the sitting carpet off the jumps. The carpet also wears faster outside than inside, but overall we've been really happy with the results.
-Brett
You can glue the outer sidewall of the tire to make it push a little bit and get rid of some of the edgyness
Custom works street trac HB are the tire for carpet.
Hey, They stole my paint job! haha
Try some gone banana form tires those will hook up like you’ve never hooked up before
I switched from 13.5 to 6.5 t in my b74 and broke it on the first run 😂😂😂😂
Edit: I’m still waiting for the b74 parts to come in
YeeHaaaw!
-Brett
Have you tried ca glue on the side walls of the front tires
We were doing that for VTA AND TOURING cars to prevent traction rolling
We haven't, but we'll give it a try! Thanks for the tip.
-Brett
Just cut off those knobs with some model sprue cutters, and then do some hard tuns left/right on some asphalt......
You should do a dirt buggy series!!!!!
Hi love your videos. Just trying to get back into the hobby after 20 years out. I got a 2nd hand set up to get me started its s 2wd Schumacher Cougar KC. I am looking at getting a new kit to build over Xmas. I will mainly be running on new ESO carpet, then in summer worn out astroturf.
I am torn whether to get a new 2wd or a new 4wd I have heard different opinions on which is easier to drive. Do you have any thoughts on this or which way to go? ( I was going to go stadium truck but there is little appetite for that over here)
Excellent! For starting out, I recommend a 2WD to keep the responsibilities and cost down, plus 2wd race classes are bigger with more entries and competition (at least in the states). 4WD buggies are one-a-kind, but you have two gearboxes to maintain, two diffs, more driveshafts and outdrives to wear out and replace, and a bigger-tire wear burden.
So my advice: keep your re-entry into racing simple this season while you get back into it, and save the 4WD for the skills and confidence next season will bring.
-Brett
👍👍👍
Try Schumacher Cactus Fusions
Hey Brett, how are you doing? If you could give some advice, how do you see see this buggy against the Xray XB4 and what would make you go for one over the other? Thank you
The XB4 is a really popular and loved car and it would be hard to choose between then. I'd probably go with what's popular at the local hobby shop for spares, and what's popular at your local track so you can get easy setup help or spares come race day when the shop is closed.
-Brett
This is completely ridiculous that you keep posting videos of your track like this!!! I am in MD, and we don't have awesome outdoor carpet tracks like this!!! LOL.. Love you guys! Obviously joking... Just jealous. Its already getting cold here. ughhhh
HA! Had me for a minute! We are definitely lucky to have this huge facility. Not sure how close these tracks are to you, but this is what I could find in Maryland; maybe some cool carpet tracks in there? www.rcsignup.com/tracks/list.cfm?state=MARYLAND

Hey Ive been loving's these videos and want to get a 1/10 to 1/28 scale drift car. do you have any budget RTR options in stock?
Check out the MST RMX 2.0. The RMX 2.0 chassis performs great and is very configurable. For the RTR's, there are probably half dozen different body styles to choose from too. Unfortunately, they are out of stock right now but we should get more soon. www.amainhobbies.com/mst-rmx-2.0-1-10-2wd-brushless-rtr-drift-car-w-nissan-s15-body-silver-mxs-533705s/p731259

@@AMain_Hobbies dang thank you so much!
Hey Brett great video but can I get that same car built for me like a RTR but without the transmitter I can buy my own transmitter? I built one buggy years ago I just don't have the time anymore.
They only come as kits so you'd need to find a builder. We used to help more with custom builds until it nipped us, now we stay away from that. Good luck!
-Brett
Sadly, I pay more for rc buggy tires than I do for my actual car on a yearly basis since the scumacher tires are so damn expensive and wears out so fast!
who said r/c racing is cheap? LOL
@@philfernandez6306 hehe nobody did, and probably never will
Looking at either this or the B74.1 D. I am new to the hobby, so this may be a silly question, can i go from carpet to dirt and back with either model, or do I need to choose a surface and run one specifically?
Yes, ideally you want to pick the surface you'll be racing on the majority of the time and pick the car that corresponds the best. You can drive the carpet car on dirt, and dirt car on carpet, but performance will not be so good unless you make some setup and tire changes.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies good to know, thank you. One more question, I have a Pro 4 SC10 that I’m looking to either mount a buggy or truggy body to. Any idea what I would need to accomplish that? I already have the 1:8 buggy wheels and adapters.
@@joshuabowers2304 That i'm not sure, never tried to put one of those bodies on a short course truck. The Pro4 SC10 uses regular body mount posts so that aspect should mount with other bodies easily. But i'm not sure how well one of those bodies will fit on a SC truck. You're going to have to just try it and experiment I think. If you try it, i'd like to hear how well it worked.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies I’ll definitely keep you posted. Went to a shop today to test for some parts. Looks like new shock towers, body and wing mount. We shall see soon enough.
+1 for small belt sander vs dremel
Are these buggies really only good on the track or could you try and bash them a little bit? If not, are there any buggy kits that are good for bashing and racing?
You could bash this vehicle, but it would be an extremely expensive basher. It would be best to buy a less expensive vehicle to have for bashing, and keep the race car in as best shape as possible, so it performs as it's best on the track.
But this Serpent RTR might fulfill both roles: www.amainhobbies.com/serpent-spyder-srx2-mm-midmotor-2wd-rtr-1-10-electric-buggy-ser500006/p451190
You might want to consider a Traxxas Bandit: www.amainhobbies.com/traxxas-bandit-vxl-brushless-1-10-rtr-2wd-buggy-green-tra24076-4-grn/p1015242
Hope that gets the gears spinning!
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Thank you for this response. I think I really need to let go of wanting to build the car from a chassis stage, since it seems like a lot of these buggies are very expensive, as you said. I think part of what messes me up is how they look, too, as I've always loved how these race buggies look. Are these going to be any more durable than something you could get in an rtr package? Or are they expensive for their precise parts / tuning?
Can you recommend a kit that comes with everything except the transmitter or one with really doesn't matter ? Thank you
I'm afraid you'll need to get yourself a buggy kit, and add the components separately. The only other option is this Serpent RTR buggy: www.amainhobbies.com/serpent-spyder-srx2-gen3-midmotor-2wd-electric-buggy-kit-ser500013/p1127033

@@AMain_Hobbies okay thank you for the information 👍
Can u do a nitro buggy again
yeah a nitro buggy kit build series would be cool, to really compare to the rtr buggy they did in the past.
What's spec class racing?
Whats are the differences between spec motors? and non spec motors?
A spec class is designed to make the racing more even, so no one has an equipment advantage and superior driving skills are paramount. Most spec class'es enforce this "evenness" with the use of a spec motor, sometimes spec tires are also involved in some events. Spec motors are usually fixed timing, so the racer cannot tweak the motor for an advantage. Hope this explains it Aaron.
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Thank you Brett
Do you do corner weighting/cross balance?
No we haven't done that but it's a great idea. We do have a corner scale system. Good tip.

-Brett
My main man Brett, from Amain hobbies.Question,
What would I need to do in order to turn my Arrma big rock into a buggy street machine.? Thank you in advance.
Hmm, maybe try lowering the ride height and adding on-road tires. Finding a buggy body to fit may be an issue, unless the Typhon body fits (maybe extra parts needed).
-Brett
@@AMain_Hobbies Already done. Ride height is flat and running street tires.
Just ran 30 minutes nothing got hot and topped out at 53.
Use fuzz bites front and rear
What's the transponder for? Never used one before?
It's used to identify the vehicle on the track to the track timing system. Each time my car passes over the "line," it picks up my transponder and records our lap times.
-Brett
Superkleber vorne an den Flanken!!!!! Dann geht das
this car weighs more than two Specialized Aethos bicycles frames
I have a hard time driving my traxxas bandit. So if i buy this car i am gold all the sudden?
That might not be the case. It might be best to further enhance your driving skills before advancing to a 4WD buggy. Maybe the bandit could use some new tires or something?
-Brett
Can anyone explain to me what a transponder is? I really dont have a clue lol.
A Transponder counts the time of your laps and sends them to the timing system.
Hope it's understandable 🤔
The little red box in a car that sends your lap times to the computer each time you cross the start/finish line. This system is how the race director tracks whos in 1st 2nd 3rd during a race.
Thank you both!
Just as a little correction, the transponder itself is just an active RFID tag that holds a unique identification code. The actual timing is handled entirely by the timing software itself. There's no actual timer on the transponder.
@@VestedUTuber you are correct I was just trying to simplify it for someone who didn't have a clue and probably isn't a racer.
Remove the second outer line and superglue the outer wall

'Push' is when you turn the front wheels but they slide (push) a bit, before initiating the turn. Also referred to as 'understeer'.
Corner-entry understeer, basically.
On the roof is better

Tire cutting, shaveing, and shapeing... is nothing new in racing. Any race team worth their salt will do this tire redesign artform, it is as much part of vehicle setup as adjusting camber, caster, toe and so on.
