    Awesome video! I am looking to buy an E30 as a first car. Is yours an E30 316 but engine swapped or its a 318is? Also do you have any tips for a new buyer any particular models to look at?

    • @OGBemfa
      @OGBemfa  27 дней назад +1

      Thanks! When I got my car, it was a 316 with a carbureted M10B16. I drove it as my daily for about a year before swapping the engine for an M42B18. I kept it as my daily for another 7 months, but then I switched to an E46 because I wanted something more comfortable.
      If you’re thinking about getting an E30 for your first car (like I did), my advice is to get the best one you can afford, with a clean body and a solid engine. You could swap the engine later, but honestly, I wouldn’t recommend it for a daily driver-it just makes things less reliable. So, go for the most powerful engine you can get from the start.
      The 318is with the M42 is a great option. It’s quick, fuel efficient, and pretty low maintenance (just oil changes and spark plugs). But since clean 318is models are going for crazy money now (like up to $20k), that might be out of reach. A 320i is a solid alternative and probably a better daily driver because of that silky smooth inline 6. Or if you can, just grab a 325i and you’re golden, haha.
      Realistically though, you’ll probably be looking at M10 or M40 models. Both are solid, but the M10 is a little more tough. I’d avoid carbureted versions if you can since carburetors can be a headache to maintain and tend to cause problems (mine was fine, but I know others who’ve had issues).
      Also, make sure the car’s been daily driven and regularly serviced. That’ll make your life so much easier, and you won’t be stuck chasing vacuum leaks or undoing rusted bolts all the time, haha.

    So motivating seeing this video on my recommended!
    Got myself a 318is myself some time ago, just got done with a engine rebuild with turbo and some other modifications :)
    Almost ready to hit the road.
    So nice sound and lovely car :D so rare to see these IS cars!
    Also, i've got a question for you!
    How low is your oil sump to the ground?

    • @OGBemfa
      @OGBemfa  6 месяцев назад +1

      That's awesome! Thanks 😀. It's not that low, I haven't had an issue with that. However, as you can see on my latest video, my car is not that much lowered. Any lower than this, then it would be a bit problematic!

    • @johannesthorsen1830
      @johannesthorsen1830 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, saw the other video!
      Mine is also not that much lowered, but it looks to be a little more than yours.
      But the lowest point of my entire car is the oil sump. Which i'm really not a big fan of, considering the bad roads here in Norway :P

    • @johannesthorsen1830
      @johannesthorsen1830 6 месяцев назад +1

      I also See your engine is from a e36? judging by the intake. but the engine should be about the same otherwise

    • @OGBemfa
      @OGBemfa  6 месяцев назад

      @@johannesthorsen1830 Yeah mine too, that's just how it is with these cars. If you're worried you can buy or make a skid plate, then you should be safe :)

    • @OGBemfa
      @OGBemfa  6 месяцев назад

      @@johannesthorsen1830 Yes it is, but I have replaced the oil pan for the E30 one, since the E36 one doesn't fit. So everything from the intake down is the same.

    Btw how much faster does it feel with the M42 motor? I like the shorter gear ratios too.

    • @OGBemfa
      @OGBemfa  7 месяцев назад +1

      Compared to the m10b16 with 75hp, it now feels like a proper car. Before it was just terribly slow but now it feels like this engine is right for this chassis. The power in the upper RPM range is always surprising, but on the lower end (< 4000rpm) it's a bit low on torque. Depends on what you like in an engine. I like it, but a year and a half after the swap I am already considering doing another one 😉

    • @TimSlee1
      @TimSlee1 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, the little 4-pots don't have any low-end torque, but they're fun to rev out. As for the swap i'm guessing a 6 cylinder? Wish I had the resources to swap one myself but Australia doesn't have any of the parts. @@OGBemfa

    • @OGBemfa
      @OGBemfa  7 месяцев назад +1

      Schmiedmann headers. The rest is a stock exhaust with a cat and a center silencer delete. BUT, I played around with mic positioning and post production to get the sound that I wanted. Irl sounds too raspy.

    • @PabloRamirez-rx9jo
      @PabloRamirez-rx9jo 7 месяцев назад

      Nice i had a custom exhaust done but also had to play around w resonators and bigger mufflers to try to cut out that raspiness stock headers tho my exhaust guy was surprised the m42 could be so loud lol@@OGBemfa

    • @OGBemfa
      @OGBemfa  7 месяцев назад

      @@PabloRamirez-rx9jo Yeah, m42s can sound really good with a proper exhaust! I'm thinking of a Simons center silencer and some universal muffler to get a bit lower-sounding tone.

  • @mauritz1x
    @mauritz1x 7 месяцев назад

    stock?

    • @OGBemfa
      @OGBemfa  7 месяцев назад +1

      The engine is essentially stock. The only "engine performance" mod is Schmiedmann headers and no cat. The car also has no AC, or power steering so that frees up a bit of power. The final diff output ratio is also shorter than the original E30 318is since this car has an E36 gearbox + 3.91 diff (top speed is around 185 km/h). Suspension is ST Suspensions springs (40/40 drop) + ST dampers.
