    Todd basically pushed 'security' out of the way recently, when I asked for a photo. The guy that was slightly above event staff, was stretching his arms out so I couldn't get to him. Todd McFarlane then put his hand on the guy to get him to move and said "Move out of the way, so he can get a picture"... then he came up to me and said "Let's walk" and he smiled for a "selfie", and he saw the picture pop up and he said "Man, you gotta clean that lenses". I think he was offering for a "cleaner" photo, but at that point, I didn't even care about the photo, seeing him tell Security to f*ck off so I could get a selfie with him made my day!
    I saw Spawn in the theater back in the 90's, the one with Michael Jai White. I liked it at the time because all we had was Batman, Blade and Spawn for good comic book movies (until X-Men in 2000). I think SPAWN deserves a REALLY GOOD film. One of the few times I will say a "Reboot" would be good.

    I wasn't too excited about this Spawn movie with "barely any Spawn in it" but you know what, Todd convinced me. One of my greatest regrets regarding BvS's reception was that WB and the other studios would use it as an excuse to NOT attempt another movie with that tone...when most of the audience knows the problems existed within the script. The fact that McFarlane knows the difference between the studios' idea of "mature & gritty" versus the actual meaning of those words gives me hope Spawn could be pretty great if the script is solid.

    • @JordanWheeler1999

      What the problem is is that Disney and wbs. Wants to have merchandises all the fucking time and they want their movies to only be PG 13 or lower because they want kids to see it.
      Hollywood would never fucking change until one day someone will grab them by the balls and make them fucking open their fucking eyes for once.

    • @MegaSilverBlood
      @MegaSilverBlood 5 лет назад +8

      @@JordanWheeler1999 the problem in this case is that hollywood studios need to have a defined genre for the movie so they can feel safe investing in it knowing that its targeted to its according audience, why can you have horror movies with gore and insane characters? because its tagged as HORROR right from the start, you can define it with one word so regular people know what theyre getting into, but when you go to them saying "its a serious suspense, slow paced gritty drama, horror, action...oh and its based on a comic book character" they go "comic book character?, thats hot right now, lose all the other shit about being serious" for the studios comic book movies can only be mixed with comedy, and im sorry if you liked GotG but that movie only made all the other studios say "make it like GotG, jokes muthafucka, i want jokes!!". i liked BvS for what it TRIED to do, but it failed so, its gonna be very rare to see another studio attempting to do that shit again.

    Part of me definitely thinks that the idea behind the new Spawn movie is really cool (where the focus is on the two detectives investigating the murders of the bad guys that Spawn has committed and Spawn is more of a shadowy figured "boogie man" that you probably won't see a whole lot of because it's through the perspective of the two dics. And in the end they probably figure out that there's some big evil that Spawn is fighting so they realize he's the "good guy") but at the same time I really want a full on Spawn movie with Spawn being the main character. Something that starts over completely, telling his origin story, and putting him up against the first big bad of hopefully many. Basically a cross between the original live action movie (with better effects obviously) and the awesome cartoon version. A serious tone like the cartoon that follows the story of the comic but having Spawn pitted against a better character from the comic. Their is so much there that there's no reason there couldn't be at least a trilogy of movies that are each at least 2 1/2 hours long!

      Personally I've come to imagine it kind of like Predator 2, Jaws, Alien and Hellraiser. Who's the main character? The human cop, the human space-trucker or the human girl who might be dead by the end of the movie.
      The difference is that Spawn isn't that kind of movie monster but is a figure with fragmented memories and conflicting instincts trying to figure out its abilities, its limits and why it haunts this part of New York.

    • @Mansplainer2099-jy8ps
      @Mansplainer2099-jy8ps 5 лет назад +3

      @chango vato I can see the scary End of Watch. But I wouldn't say I gave any ideas, just comparisons.
      Ideas would be that if this Spawn is mute he has the ability from the animated series to interact with your mind by simply touching you and that his costume has the shapeshifting ability from the 90s movie so he can hide almost anywhere and his cape "bleeds" over into the distinctive red only once he's angry and wants to be seen.
      Done well (in the horror movie sense) that could be terrific.

    he actually has a point, imagine a movie with the main character just completely insane, kills people, all horrified of the things he has done, more of a silence of lamb feel like what they said then after all of towards the end of it all. Scene his in a dark room nothing but a mirror and a lamp, complete silence then we here a sadistic laugh coming closer and closer as it approaches boom "lights off" total silence and darkness "lights on" him sitting in front of the mirror with the joker make up on his face. turns out he is The Joker.

      It's probably never coming out. The problem has never been selling the concept of Spawn as a movie. The problem is that Todd insists that HE be the director of the film. As long as he continues to make that part of the deal, nobody with any sense is going to finance it. The only reason the story picked up some steam a while back was because Todd announced that his own company would be financing the movie. I'm really into the idea of putting a comic book hero in the background and playing with the POV. I always thought the best Batman movie would have ordinary criminals as the main characters and Batman as the antagonist. There's so much you can do with the idea because he's usually two steps ahead of his enemies. It would be an interesting change for viewers to see Batman as the ordinary thugs do. I thought the Gotham show was going to do something like this when it was first announced.

    3 reasons Mcfarlane's version is going to suck. I see why Mcfarlane has been having a hard time getting the studios to buy into his idea for the Spawn reboot. Bad idea # 1. He wants to shoot a low budget movie on purpose. That could work if we weren't talking about Spawn. His movie is going to look worse than the 1997 version. Bad idea # 2. He wants to center the story around Twitch. People want to see a Spawn movie, not a Twitch movie. If he really wants to tell Twitch's story, he should do it in a series in similar fashion to Gordon's story with Gotham. Bad idea # 3. Spawn as a background presence with little screen time. WTF! Someone please stop this train wreck.

    I doubt it'll ever happen because how long he's been trying to get it made, but I really badly want this Spawn movie to happen, I actually think the idea of a Spawn movie with him not being the main focus but lurking in the background like a Monster is a really good idea, just Imagine they took someone like say Batman and made a movie but instead of it being all about him let's say its Carmine Falcone or someone and it starts with his henchmen doing normal criminal type stuff, maybe like the scene at the Docks in Batman Begins, and all you ever see is something like a giant Bat but quick glimpses, make it R like Titans so all you see is someone disappear you hear the bone break, someone goes to investigate sees them all broken up and bleeding but alive, then suddenly something grabs them, you don't know if its a Ghost, Monster, or what it is but it's taking them out one by one, in a brutal ultra violent way, do that but with Spawn, and it would be amazing.

To put all this debate and discussion about Disney and how they're not gonna make an R rated film bc they're Disney makes a ton of sense bc we all know it's DISNEY we're talking about. BUT, what if Disney started a side company within their own company just for dark movies that can't really be made into those PG13, PG14 ratings? Something solely for rated R and above movies that'll fit perfectly into those categories ex: Spider-Man with carnage, Blade series, Morbius, dead pool, the punisher, Daredevil, ghost rider, Venom which can be made into an R rated film, fantastic 4 (the real shit not that bs we had to swallow 3 times too many) etc. This would give Disney a different outlook by the people and would stir things up drastically. Almost 2 years ago he said things were pretty much done and production was starting early 2018 and still nothing has happened. Things sound pretty shaky because he has one vision and doesn't want to budge on it. A studio is not going to give this guy millions of dollars and let him direct whatever the hell he wants because he says any movie that superhero related will work and make money. WRONG! @Mansplainer2099-jy8ps 5 лет назад +1

      @Kiahran Adams Except the Joker is an evolving character, at the core he is a mobster with a gimmick who is reinvented by writers over and over.
      Alan Moore had him shoot Barbara Gordon in the spine then undress her and take photos (and possibly rape her as well) in a graphic novel which was then made canon because the graphic novel was popular. The comics had him brutally beat the second Robin with a crowbar and leave a timebomb (and the fans voted that Robin die). Frank Miller had him slice his therapist's throat with a coffee cup on live TV.
      The writers can use him as a posterboy for anarchy, nihilism, incurable mental health issues, serial killer, terrorist etc. but at the end of the day he is a Dick Tracy villain who gets socked in the jaw and shakes bars before the X-Ray Specs advert.

      @Stix N' Stones I believe I've seen every film and cartoon Joker there is, even a few fan-made ones (like in Batman: Dead End) and I have obviously read The Killing Joke and The Dark Knight Returns. The Joker in the Adam West series didn't shoot people with a tommygun but he was not as inaccurate to the original Joker as you claim. The Joker being "safe for kids" is a question of tone of story, not of the character's "true nature".
      We might as well be arguing if Count Dracula is safe for kids or not.

      @Stix N' Stones I'm not so sure, I think I prefer the "Clown Prince of Crime" who will easily leave dead bodies behind because they were unlucky enough to get in his way (take the Batman the Animated Series version for example) but he's not a serial killer who gets a thrill from sadistically terrifying and killing you like Stephen King's It or sets up bombs in a hospital to send a political message or to have his demands met.
      Partly because there is no way a Joker like that wouldn't have a ton of civilians with sniper rifles, carbombs, bricks and poison looking for him the second he escapes from Arkham a fourth time.
      There is nothing any person, real or fictional, "should". Also, the hero who would never ever kill but runs around saving the day anyway is a juvenile power fantasy that the writer will always give you a pleasant third way out of any situation. It's the juveniles in the audience who get pissed that in Man of Steel Clark Kent didn't invent and build a Kryptonite prison in 0.1 seconds, judo-throw Zod into it, salute the American flag then fly into orbit and wink at the camera.

      Kiahran Adams :
      Trust you?? How about No because...I think I'll trust Bob Kane MORE. I think I'll trust Denny MORE. I think I'll trust NEAL frikin ADAMS more!!! Trust a total stranger on RUclips or trust the gods of Batman...hmmm. Gee which one. Trust the CREATOR of the Joker or some guy on youtube? Hmmmm, I wonder. THEY'RE the ones who say the Joker is for kids, THEY say bats entire rogue gallery is for kids, THEY say that Batman comics are always supposed to be for kids.
      That whole list Matt mentions, me and all the other the kids read when we were 12 and we didn't have a problem, we understood he's the bad guy, it was fine. The Joker is for adults AND for kids because the Joker has ALWAYS been a universal character. He's literally universal NOT exclusive to age.
      I own "THE GREATEST JOKER STORIES OF ALL TIME" and IN Hardcover (stunning cover art by the legendary Sienchewitz) which spans 65 years of comics and ever one and each of those stories are actually kid rated son. A kid, if he was so interested, could totally read each one. That's a FACT. A published FACT in beautiful purple hardcover.
      Not an opinion; that thee GREATEST stories of the Joker collected are all receptive for kids. Hmmmm.
      Since the very first performance of The Joker by Caesar Romeo the Joker was for kids in there, fast forward nearly 30 years later to Jack Nicholson's stunning performance and STILL a PG movie for kids, just about every media in existence OF the Joker has all been for kids, from the very first Batman cartoon in history, to that Animated Series, to the following cartoon show called "the Batman", to Jack Nicholson, to Romeo Caesar, to the Super Friends, even to Jared Leto LOL. Son 99% of Joker IN the media has all been FOR kids; yet a third wopping fact for you.
      Your personal desires wanting the Joker to no longer be for kids is your own prerogative, that's your own business, but it is contrary to the facts. Just about every legend in the industry of comics and every Guru of the Batman will never deny Joker (lhet alone Batman) fom kids nor adults. It's an archetype that belongs primary to the youth, and it's not just franchise it's an epic icon.

      Last time we got a comic book artist trying to be a filmmaker we got The Spirit 10 years ago by Frank Miller. I'm not saying not have him involved. Sure, have him involved but as a producer. As a consultant. But get a filmmaker with experience.

      each and every DC movie including suicide squad has made a billion fucking dollars. people don't have to like it if they show up to the theater every time to see something that is mediocre but that most people enjoy. 80% of people walked out of suicide squad and never saw it or thought about it again and didn't care. I mean, just look at the CW DC shows, they're like maybe 40% higher production value than the superhero porn parodies to me and not critically well received and yet people eat that garbage up.

    Well at this point, given his pitch. they will wait to see how Brightburn fleshes out before they green light Spawn. Because it looks like Brightburn is everything "serious, r rated, and dark" that he's saying Spawn is supposed to be.
