In these walkthrough videos I show how to complete all Side-Missions as well as point out the locations of all unlockables (hidden characters, alternate costumes etc).
Mortal Kombat : Deception is my personal favourite '3D' Mortal Kombat game. Released in 2004, two years after Deadly Alliance, this game delivers in both quality AND quantity.
The game contains an abundance of 'Kontent'. Not only do we have the traditional one-on-one fighting modes; this game also contains 'Chess Kombat' & 'Puzzle Kombat', two excellent new additions.
Also, Konquest mode makes a return from Deadly Alliance, although here it is a full-blown RPG set in the Mortal Kombat universe. It is the main reason why Deception is my favourite '3D' Mortal Kombat game.
A MUST own game for Mortal Kombat fans.

They speak reversed English. A lot of them actually say to Shujinko "You are being deceived" backwards.
Why the heck is Ermac always so OP/cheap? Even in Trilogy, he always seems to have some advantage over the other normal, non-boss characters. Him and Noob.

Ashrahs' hat is actually in Japanese history. It was worn by noble and royal women in Japan during the Heian era. The veil was attached to the hat to protect womens' skin from the sun and from lower ranking individuals from looking at them. Pale skin was regarded highly in that era, especially among women, and covering up also protected women from being looked at by lower ranking men who had no right to lust over women of higher status. I'm not too sure if it was worn throughout the whole nation or just in Kyoto (the capitol city of Japan during that time period). Anyways Ashrah seems to be a homage towards Japanese history, at least in fashion sense.

lol, I spent like 75% of this game wandering around completely freaking lost! Also I love how gullible and obedient Shujinko is...he does anything asked of him without question. Like it never occurs to him that he may be doing things that are wrong. It's like damn boy, get some free will and common sense already.
Archdemon Zazikel Wondering lost was the fun part of Konquest Mode. There were so many suprises my first time.

this walkthrough is so entertaining. that Shang Tsung fight challenge is kinda like an inside joke now. every time you mentioned it I laughed so hard. "absolutely unacceptable."
I never completed that challenge
Kotchal , Kobra, Kira, Kabal trio, the challenge in the Netherrealm outskirts is a much tougher fight than the Shang Tsung fight.

It's so unfairly biased against the player. I somehow managed to defeat him with Sub-Zero.

Shang Tsung challenge is the 2ND hardest in the game... in Edenia the fight against Scorpion is identical except he also does 300% damage!

Hmmm, you young guys and gals with your fancy shmancy combos and breakers; when I was a little kid (about 8-12 years of age) we didn't have that luxury... heck MK 4 or DA didn't even exist back in that time period. In all honesty, and to cut my whining I do enjoy playing almost all of the past & present MK titles (only MK X/XI stump me). MK 9 was truly the last great /potent MK title ... but with time as with all things/suppositions I might grow to love/respect the newer versions of MK.
In Queens, NYC, NY I used to play either MK II or UMK3 arcade ... man, did those f-g cabinets eat up my coins [good times , along with Primal Rage, Tekken 1 or Street Fighter]. 😁😹💪🔥

For anyone else struggling with that one-sided Shang Tsung fight, maybe this'll help you like it did me? After training with Ashra, go fight Shang Tsung, and just use her ↓ ↑ X special move, (you can repeatedly press X to keep spinning) then forward O (her Chicken Leg move) whenever you knock Shang Tsung in the air. These two moves alone were enough to beat him, they're strong and quick. Now go kick his ass.
I also find doing Ashrah's forward square, triangle, triangle, and square combo works effectively as well. If you time your forward square attack properly, Shang Tsung will not be able to get back up and the triangle, triangle attack deals some heavy damage which you can beat Shang Tsung quickly.
I recall one character being better for that fight. Maybe it was Ashrah. It's been so many years, I can't remember if I Bea it or not as a kid, but I did remember certain characters being better for certain challenges and I remember the Shang Tsung fight being far from the worse one. The worse ones being the ones where you have to beat them at low health. I think there was one where you were both low heath and losing health later on.
I believe the netherrealm people that speak backwards are natives, and the rest are like Shujinko, originating from other realms. I think they went with English for the quest npcs to avoid confusion though

I won Shang Tsung just now in the netherrealm with Sub-Zero! I had like 30 tries but I spammed the 31% combo with the weapon fighting style and managed to do it hardly. Love your videos man

The Goro seen actually has four arms. If you look near his knee, you can see his other hand. If it's hard to see, upscale your resolution to 2x native and you should be able to see it easier.
This is my second time watching this playthrough. I'm thinking about doing a speedrun of this game and this in-depth guide is pretty helpful.

I know this video is old but I'm going to weigh in since I know how the story unfolds so before I go any further

Damashi says that "perhaps" he can be in the Netherrealm because the Lin Kuei corrupted him OR is he partially corrupted since he's helping Damashi who we later find out to be the evil Dragon King Onaga. And Damashi knows it but has to come up with some sort of lie. I mean that's possible.

I think lin kuei corrupted Shujinko because later on when Nightwolf removes corruption from him. Damashi said to him to go to the neterrealm and get corrupted, so it means even he is helping Damashi it won't corrupt him.
I don't think so,Lin Kuei are not good people so most probably they are the reason Shujinko is corrupted
I like the part where you ranted on the Shang Tsung fight challenge in the Netherrealm while trying to defeat him while he's healing while your character bleeds to death. I'd say this is the worst fight challenge in Konquest mode along with the Scorpion one where Scorpion does 300% damage and healing.
I finally defeated Shang Tsung. It took me about 40 tries though.
Monster used to be an alternate Scorpion skin.I kinda wish they went with it.

I don't know how much sense it makes and probably someone already wrote this. The strange language they speak in the Netherrealm (and in the Chaosrealm) is English spoken backwards
The Shang Tsung fight challenge is so difficult that as a kid I was convinced there was some grand reward for it.
My teenage mind was convinced that you would get something like, playable Shang Tsung from it or something like that. Like, why would they make something *so hard* without a meaningful reward?

I completed Shang's challenge and for what I remember I enjoyed it and every fight challenge (I just liked the fact that you can see the caracters roaming around)

This is definitely just a little Easter egg/reference to Nitara's arc in Deadly Alliance. She has Reptile attack Cyrax and strand him in Outworld in order to have him retrieve the orb that keeps her realm merged with Outworld (its submerged in lava, hence why someone made of metal would stand a better chance of retrieving it). In return, she sends him back to Earthrealm herself. Honestly, I've played through this Konquest mode too many times, but clearly I missed quite a bit of stuff. I'm not as thorough as you; I tend to just power through the main story.

You know I'm disappointed with what Midway did with Shinnok. I mean after MK4 he doesn't actually do anything till armageddon. He is a fallen elder god you would think that he had plans to get out of the netherrealm and Deception would be the perfect time to do it but that is just my thoughts. At least MK X brought him back

- You're wondering where you are in the beginning where everything is so strange. Damashi said it in the beginning that it's Hell. "Oni" itself is Japanese for "demon" or "devil."
- The table with the weird thing in the middle, the thing is probably a strange centerpiece.
- 1:04:20 They look like stalagmites, even though there's no ceiling.
- 1:09:20 The one on the right... maybe the 2nd costume of Sub Zero?
To defeat Shang Tsung easy, you either have to finish the Konquest mode and get lucky in getting Baraka or train with Baraka later on in Konquest mode. Now, if you get Baraka, just SPAM his special attack, Mutant Blades (--> --> X) it does natural damage BUT sometimes, Shang Tsung (or your opponent) will get back up but you also have enough time to do a mutant blade attack. If he/they block's or stays on the ground for a while, you could do a throw or do an Air Juggle combo. (Square Square Triangle and then do square square circle and after that, do the mutant blades again) If you are quick and mostly do the air juggle combo and the mutant blades, you should beat it in 5 minutes. (I defeated Shang Tsung very quick doing the combo and the special attack. I have a ps2 also and it wasn't that hard for me. Yes it took me tries but over all, it was still quick to beat Shang Tsung.)
Yes, you're right. Baraka is over power in this game and I can beat all characters on max level with him. I like Tarkatan's style and Mileena and Baraka are very originals.
