TBH I think MK3 is kind of brave for making the changes it did at the time, very few major franchises would have deviated this much today. True fans like us love pallet swap ninjas but from an outsider perspective it looks lazy hence the sub zero redesign. It certainly got people talking about the game. The graphics were nice and crisp and the combos are a super cool addition. Not having scorpion was a huge mistake, I remember when I first saw the game wondering if it REALLY was a MK game because everything looked so different. Stryker is a shit character and I always hated him.
I loved when games changed in the sequel. MK3 and Tekken 3 refreshed their rosters greatly. They were brave again for MKX adding a new generation of fighters. Some series get stuck in a pattern of basically releasing the same thing for decades.
I was playing this on an arcade machine at a store which had Mk 1-3 plus other games and the graphics are still great. The characters look somewhat realistic like they took a picture of someone and made it animated.
I remember being obsessed with all the MK games and riding my bike for 2-3 hours to get to the arcade every day during the summer to play MK3 in 1995. Your story of how you were obsessed with the game rings so true. Love all of your content - you are just so humorous because you say what I was already thinking. I respect whatever you are doing now with your life but I hope you’ll come back online and do some more MK content for MK11 or really whatever the hell you want to do.

MK3 has such a dark sinister feel to it! I remember playing this in my elementary and having a fear of it cause of the gore and melody. Now as a father I love playing this game with my daughter such! So many memories with this game
Words can't describe the backlash Midway and Ed Boon received and the disappointment among fans when the original MK 3 released and showcasing a very lackluster roster of characters. I remember going to the arcade in the mid-90's and hardly seeing anyone playing this or in a line to do so. However, MK II was still heavily popular. Initially pulling notorious characters such as Scorpion, Reptile, Johnny Cage, and Raiden away was a huge blow. This was largely due to a falling out between Ed Boon and Pesina brothers who portrayed the characters. Luckily, they brought these characters back in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat: Trilogy which are without a doubt superior titles.
MrGSTAR321 Great playthrough as always. Have you ever thought about doing a playthrough of "Eternal Champions" for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive? That'd be an awesome video. You're playing it in very difficult 'master' mode, so I'm not surprised at the difficulty. Something MK1 and 2 were lacking that made this game superior were the unknown attack combos. It flowed much better. Kabal and Sub Zero were the best characters imo. I think most magazines gave all the moves away once the game was released on console.
This makes the memories come back, and back to me and my brother wasting days on this game. I learned first hand about the horrid AI programming, yet still Loved this game. Cyrax was my go-to and always was until Noon Saibot came in later installments.
I agree. They really screwed up the roster with this one. But I guess it allowed for cool new additions such as: Sektor, Cyrax, Nightwolf & Kabal. I wonder if they would have been created if Scorpion, Raiden etc were in the game instead.
The DOS release of MK3 was my first MK game as a kid. The lore/character background parts at the start bring back a lot of memories.. haven't seen that shit in probably 20 years.
I feel you Gstar, the 90s in general was a very exciting time. My friends and I were super hyped for MK3 as well! When it came out in arcades we wasted so many coins on it I can't believe we didn't break out parent's bank XD Also, Sheeva was made with claymation and it looks pretty damn good. Looks like they got an actor to do her.
If you look closely at the tombstones in the cemetery stage, you'll see the last names of the creators and developers of this game. That is so rad. Ilove those little tid-bits.
The funny thing is, I’m actually conflicted between MK3 & UMK3. Why? Two things. Yes, UMK3 is objectively better because of the extra characters & stages, but you hardly ever saw the old stages in UMK3, just the 5 new ones, nearly all the time and the AI was more mercilessly unfair than in MK3. Especially as you’d be fighting Jade every 3rd to 4th match and she’d spam her dash kick and projectile invincibility ad nauseum. In MK3, the stages and characters were totally randomized and the difficulty was tough but reasonable. It just lacked all the ninjas
I absolutely hated this game when it first came out, back in '95. I remember seeing this in the arcade and watching people play it. When I had my chance to play the game,I couldn't stand it. No Scorpion (my favorite MK character),an umasked Sub-Zero (ugh!),cheesy cyborg ninjas,no Reptile,no Kitana, the combo feature and the Urban setting is why I didn't like "Mortal Kombat 3". The new characters sucked too. Only new character that was interesting, was Kabal. I also hated the animations. When there's a decapitation or when a character gets cut in half, the character's dead body just stands there. It looked ridiculous. I didn't care for "Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3" and "Mortal Kombat Trilogy" either. Mainly because those games were nothing more than updates to the original bland "Mortal Kombat 3". Same gameplay and everything. I don't know. I just think the last really good "Mortal Kombat" games were the first two. That whole Asian style that "Mortal Kombat" and "Mortal Kombat II" had,was sadly missing from "Mortal Kombat 3". The first game especially. It felt almost as if you were playing a fighting game based on an old Martial Arts movie, like "Enter The Dragon" or something. The third game had none of that. I didn't even bother buying the home port when it was released. I was perfectly happy with "Mortal Kombat" and "Mortal Kombat II".
Gstar: "Fuck! This is Bullshit, Why would you program a game where everything you do gets countered?! This is Fucking Impossible!" Us: "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?"
I remember looking at the poster ads for MK3 in a video store as a kid. I got hyped and eventually rented the mega drive/Genesis/snes versions when those came out. I played the arcade version at a round table pizza back in 1995 lol and I was amazed on how much better it was compared to the 16 bit versions.
I remember seeing this as a kid and thought the graphics looked so great, but also wondering where are all the ninjas? Where's Scorpion? Oh, that's Sub-Zero? Why doesn't he have his mask on? 🤔
Dude that kabal fatality you were talking about where he took off his mask legit gave me nightmares for a couple weeks after i first saw it. i completely avoided ever using kabal again lol
Haha. I forgot to mention this in the video, but we actually rented a whole SNES console (Yep, you used to be able to rent actual consoles back then) from the video store for one weekend, and I got MK2 to go with it! The best 2 days of my life!
I remember talking by mom in to pre ordering this shit for me at toys r us. It came with a fresh ass t shirt and I sported that fuckin thing literally EVERY DAY. Was a great day when I brought this game home.
Smoooooooooooooke! You da man Gstar I love watching these videos. I never enjoyed a whole lot watching someone else play a video game but you make it like watching a movie or TV show it's on a whole other level. Thank you :)
I really hope that you return to RUclips some day Gstar as so many awesome games have come out since you stopped posting regularly it would be awesome to see you play the Dead Space remake, Resident Evil 2 and 4 Remakes, (I bet you will rant and shit on the Resident Evil 3 Remake for the laziness and missing content of the original) Also MK1 and MK11 playthroughs would be cool to complete the MK videos too. Maybe even Streets of Rage 4 too. Maybe even some obscure indi horror games too. I am always hoping for the return of the legend til then i will keep watching old playthroughs like and hoping to see that notification of a new upload on this channel :)
MK3 ... by far my FAVORITE MK game ever! As a teen I overplayed this game so much that the cartridge got destroyed. I don't know how, don't ask me, but I think it was due to being overused. I knew all of Kabals' and Shivas' moves by heart and even the special unlock codes that you input before during the screen set up at the beginning. I was a GODDESS with this game. Spent lots of quarters on it too during middle school field trips to Grand Prix Raceorama. They had a arcade center and I would go fight against the best of them. I'm not good with arcade controllers, due to lack of practice with the button arrangement, but once I figured them out I was a decent player. There was one guy who was a beast with Sindel. Neither my Kabal nor Shiva could defeat that. Fun times regardless. I would love to get to it on the SNES. Bought a new copy of it and would like to get back to my MK days. I'm waiting on a MK11 Komplete Kollectors edition for the Switch and I need to save up. I've got certifications to buy and pass through. ^_^ If I'm not mistaken there are codes to unlock Kintaro, Motaro, Shao Kahn and Noob Saibot for this game. I do recall inputting multiple codes before the start screen showed up. None of that DLC spending money on character bullshit.
@@PatrickStar-zl6il I said favorite... not the best. 🤣The best I would say MK Trilogy. I loved that game too and would call it my second favorite right after MK3. As for the newer rehashed or reboot games. I found MK9 story mode stronger than the other two that went afterwards. MK10 made Cassy too Mary Sue and MK 11... well I leave that one for the next paragraph. I agree MK Trilogy was awesome, and would be a great pick for the Playstation parties in large crowds back 1997/1998... just to avoid the number of codes one has to use in Ultimate MK 3 and MK3. 😱😂 However, you can't deny the awesomeness that it was to show off your memory skills back then with knowing all of the cheat and unlocking characters codes. Nothing like today which you can just buy the characters, I find that most annoying about todays' games. That whole pay-to-play ordeal is utter bullshit! That is one thing all ol' school MK players ought to at least agree upon. It is one of two reasons why I hate MK11. It use to be that you are given a code to unlock a character after doing certain tasks, such as playing max using a certain character will give you the code for unlocking Shao Kahn or Kintaro. Now-a-days you have to pay for them... to me that is a real WTF! moment. I find that unacceptable. Another thing I hate was the weak story mode in MK11. It is basically all over the place and it was almost like a real "FUCK YOU" thing going on to the fans. I do like how the characters look in MK11 compare to MK9, but that was it. The things that got me into MK was the story/lore behind it and the hardcore gore-fest it gave. I'm not interested in combos so much in MK games, because that is what KI (Killer Instant) is for. Each game has its awesomeness and reason to play with. I hope you understand now where I am coming from with this. In conclusion, I am sorry my comment offended you so much, but I found it funny that you read my comment as a threat or offense towards to you or anyone else. I was not. As far as I could tell I wasn't attacking the other games of the series in my original first comment. I only stated that MK 3 was my favorite in the first line of the reply and proceeded to explain myself as to why. Again, I didn't mean for it to upset you in any way. 🤔😎👍 PS: If you read towards the end of my first original comment you would see that I was interested in trying out MK11, which I did and didn't like the story mode of it. It took the original story it had from the first three MK games and turned it on its head, giving the fans a huge middle finger basically. Does that mean I won't play it? No. I play it, especially because of how I like how the characters look and the controllers are easier to use. I can see why people would consider it the best or their favorite. If it weren't for the messed up in story mode, I would like it more.
Mortal Kombat Trilogy (1996) was the ULTIMATE. So i just stick with that. I still have my copy for the PS1. True Classic. Though i will admit the AI is hard as shit. LOL.
In MKT actually AI is trash on very hard, easily exploitable (triggering enemies projectiles for example) add overpowered characters where AI can't block some shit even once and You get unbalanced easy mess

This makes the memories come back, and back to me and my brother wasting days on this game. I learned first hand about the horrid AI programming, yet still Loved this game. Cyrax was my go-to and always was until Noon Saibot came in later installments.
Love the story in the beginning ❤️
Having no Scorpion in the original MK3 was fucking "DISGRACEFUL!" Still a fun game tho.
umk3? hello (raiden)
Renegade Scottista also sub zero with no mask he should put a mask back on
I agree. They really screwed up the roster with this one. But I guess it allowed for cool new additions such as: Sektor, Cyrax, Nightwolf & Kabal. I wonder if they would have been created if Scorpion, Raiden etc were in the game instead.
MrGSTAR321 Of course the issue would be corrected in UMK3. Just didn't understand why they couldn't have the entire original cast from the start.
Yea, maybe they had the home ports in mind? And the limitations (i.e. less characters) associated with that?
The DOS release of MK3 was my first MK game as a kid. The lore/character background parts at the start bring back a lot of memories.. haven't seen that shit in probably 20 years.
Could it be possible that Gstar actually looks like Bo Rai Cho?
Mommamiyamoto [Gridz0ne Beta] LMAO
A theory is something that has been proven. Correction: Hypothesis
Except that's theory in scientific circles. In ordinary speech, theory means the same as hypothesis.
Mommamiyamoto no wonder gstar hates him so much. They took his likeness without giving GStar credit
nothing better for a morning hangover that a brand new video of Gstar. I remember mk3 on the SNES...i feel your pain
Good you posted the original MK3. It seems everyone forgets this one.
Not such an unpopular opinion: I actually like unmasked sub-zero in MK3. Moves, finishing moves and design are pretty cool
Clicked so fast I broke my mouse
😂
Gstar is the best commentator in the history not just in RUclips
Play mortal kombat special forces
It's worst then the mortal kombat Ai
ZK531 Gaming gstar321 said in a lot of his videos that although he will tolerate mk mythologies but special forces is beyond him.
It's worse then MK Chaotic
Mortal Kombat : Special Forces will be done. I'm still not ready for it yet. But ... it will be done.
MrGSTAR321+ Ily
YOu think that its hard play Ninja Gaiden 2 for Xbox 360. That game is disgustingly hard
COME BACK GSTAR WE ALL MISS YOU!
2 videos in a short time span? YES!
23:41 "That's facked" lol
I remember going to the movie theaters seeing massive crowds playing MK3
23:30
Sub Zero.exe has stopped working.
🤣
"Running in and trying to start combos is virtually off limits as is standard" Truer words have never been spoken. Haha.
I agree, Mortal 1 and 2 were the best, I personally prefer the first one
Calm down .. your comment is cheesy lol
Mcmamie this dude’s tripping ..
If you pause at just the right moment, you can see the range of Cyrax's self-destruct is 2.3 miles. Holy shit.
Yes more mortal Kombat thanks gstar321
Man MK2 is where it started for me. Along with street fighter 2. It's crazy to think how MK has progressed over the years
Gstar: "Fuck! This is Bullshit, Why would you program a game where everything you do gets countered?! This is Fucking Impossible!"
Us: "Did it hurt when you fell from heaven?"
The AI jumping away when you sweep is your best friend in this (and UMK3's) game!! Love the vids :)
I didn't know this was a new upload I need to read more carefully.
Hey you should do a play through of silent hill 1
Him explaining his childhood, is me verbatim🎮😡😂 love this guy, keep up the good work mate!!!
i wanna see what mrgstar thinks of silent hill 1
This childhood story is incredible
I remember seeing this as a kid and thought the graphics looked so great, but also wondering where are all the ninjas? Where's Scorpion? Oh, that's Sub-Zero? Why doesn't he have his mask on?
🤔
Dude that kabal fatality you were talking about where he took off his mask legit gave me nightmares for a couple weeks after i first saw it. i completely avoided ever using kabal again lol
Please play Mortal Kombat Special Forces, I understand it's a shit game but you will have a complete library.
Christian Knox he said he will do a video on that in the near future, he's just not ready for the bullshit the game has to offer yet.
Lol, that is gonna be great. It's fucking old as shit. So he might need to have time to find a way to get a hold of the game.
@@filteredvitaminsubstance5302 I hope he comes back man, he needs to play that game.
@Christopher Marlowe don't say that :(
I'm still waiting for him
Your story on MK2 reminds me so much of myself it's scary.
His last Mortal Kombat playthrough as of right now :(
I hope that MK11 playthrough comes out soon
I love your commentary man, because I felt the exact same way. I rented mk2 so much that I could of actually bought 100 copies. Great video 👍
Haha. I forgot to mention this in the video, but we actually rented a whole SNES console (Yep, you used to be able to rent actual consoles back then) from the video store for one weekend, and I got MK2 to go with it! The best 2 days of my life!
@@MrGSTAR321 COME BACK. Please.
Lmao when you read Sheeva's story ending and said it was boring.
2:04 writing a letter to Santa to bring MrGSTAR321 back with new videos this new year. 🤞🎅
Love ur Vids bro Keep it up
Joker Hernandez *your* vids
I remember talking by mom in to pre ordering this shit for me at toys r us. It came with a fresh ass t shirt and I sported that fuckin thing literally EVERY DAY. Was a great day when I brought this game home.
We need more of this guy
Smoooooooooooooke! You da man Gstar I love watching these videos. I never enjoyed a whole lot watching someone else play a video game but you make it like watching a movie or TV show it's on a whole other level. Thank you :)
would love to see you do the challenge tower from the MK 9 / (reboot) I just want to hear MrGstar rage towards the end. internet gold in my book. 😂👍👍
That last tower is fucking disgusting...HORRENDOUS
That self-destruct fatality was brought back as a brutality for predator in the warrior version in MKX
I mean, Cyrax as a whole is inspired in the Predator
I can relate, I saved up and bought the SNES with superscope which I never used and mario alstars. MK2 was mesmerising
Love your videos. Frustration level 💯 just like the rest of us against the AI...
MK3 ... by far my FAVORITE MK game ever!
Juci Shockwave the best mk games ever are mk2 mk trilogy mk10 mk11 so wtf
PS:
If you read towards the end of my first original comment you would see that I was interested in trying out MK11, which I did and didn't like the story mode of it.
LOL.
Pick Rain !
In MKT actually AI is trash on very hard, easily exploitable (triggering enemies projectiles for example) add overpowered characters where AI can't block some shit even once and You get unbalanced easy mess
Awful load times
@@absentehhh8263 yeah but it's not that bad really.
Fun fact. If you do an uppercut in the soul chamber you'll knock your enemy in the balcony and the bridge will always be the next stage.
