  • Justin from @intothetimberoutdoors8746 has been scouting out this spot pre-season and found a wolf pack was living in here. He recorded lots of footage of the wolves roaming in this area, but couldn't fill any of his wolf tags until season started. Well, the day finally came, September 15, 2022, and he invited me to tag along. I bought a couple tags just in case all heck broke loose. Well, it basically did! And Justin was able to harvest a beautiful wolf for the very first time, and it was equally exciting for me just to witness these marvelous cunning beasts in their natural habitat. Justin hiked out with a hide in his pack, but we both walked away with so much more: the excitement, the draw, the calling, for more adventures just like this.

Man I can’t wait to be back in the woods again. Bring on spring.

Good video. I enjoy them. I live in the south. I am looking at going bear hunting next spring in Montana or Idaho. I am putting a new rifle setup together to take. I just bought a Browning. A Xbolt Hells Canyon Speed Long Range 280 ackley improved. Now i have to decide on a scope. I am looking into one in a 4x16x44mm or close to it. In a Leupold, Huskemaw, Zeiss, Sig, and Vortex. I am getting one with the exposed locking turret. What type of bullet would u suggest? Are the bears hard to find like your hunting?

Thanks for watching!! Good luck out there. Did you watch my latest bear film from last year? Gives you a pretty good idea of the terrain and difficulty of this kind of hunt. But then again, Montana has many varying terrain types all very close to each other, so I'm not sure what exactly it would be like for you in your area. Bullet types don't seem to matter, they have wayy softer chests/bellies than deer and doesn't take much to get in there. But I also haven't shot one further than 120 yards yet either. Anything good for deer would work great for bears. I'm personal to vortex as far as scopes go, not a fan in the slightest of Sig Sauer scopes (but their rangefinders are great). Zeiss is hard to best for optic clarity, but going with something less European and more American is my tendency, despite being from Europe. I'd suggest a 50mm+ objective lens though, over a 44mm. 4-16x is a good zoom range for Montana

@SawtoothWild I have watched almost all of your videos. I have my eye on the Vortex Viper 4x16x50mm HS LR scope. They have it in 4x16x44mm HS LR too. I was wondering about the bullet choice? I was asking because of a grizzy attack. Something like a 7mm 160 gr partition . I usually use a 7mm hornady and Berger bullets. But I thought a nosler mite be a better choice.

Really hard to say. Personally I'd go with something thats got more muzzle energy. Which is almost always smaller weight bullets. You're not going to be "defending" yourself from a grizzly at 350 yards. It's going to be close-quarters, 30 yards and less. Anything designed for hunting is going to work great for that, be it a Partition, a GMX, SST, ELD-X, Acubond, etc. I wouldn't think of it that closely. That said, I heard SSTs open better than ELD-Xs at closer ranges. But whatever groups better would be way more important.
