Just did mine after watching your video and I discovered what the trick is to get those safety belt reel covers off in a hurry:
Undo both Parcel shelf Roller Blind securing mechanisms as you did for the right hand one and then lever up roller blind mechanism base plate and that releases it so they also can be removed.
This gives more room for the covers to slide back slightly
Then cover will come off with out breaking awkward cover clips

Greetings from Milwaukee, Wisconsin!! Great work on the diy effort. I’m going to change shocks on my nephew’s 2009 E-91 today. I’m also going to elicit help from my 8 & 12 year old nephews as gophers. They will hopefully learn to fix their future BMWs to save $$. Outstanding video mate!!

With a bit more thought, BMW could have incorporated clip in access trim panels where the top mounts are. Would have avoided the need to strip and potentially damage the interior trims you ended up having to remove.

That plastic cowl removal reminds me of the struggle you can have with VAG products as well. A Big Thanks from Ireland

Changed to Sachs OEM like dampers on my 118d e87 a few years back and just swapped the dampers on my 2011 e91 325d Stage 1 from leaking air-pumping shocks to the Bilstein B8 (already had the Eibach Springs from the B12 installed, so now I have the B12 in) and this tutorial was really nice to refresh memory and to get that e91 trunk stuff out of the way, more work than with an e87 but it is what it is, that rear belt plastic cover is just bad design.
One thing I would recommend for sure is to change the bumpstops, dont cost much but the original wont get too far anymore I think, at least they wont outlive the new dampers.
Basically the same amount of work again to change those later cause damper has to come out again, just put new ones on instead of the old ones.
I also changed the damper mounting parts, the top dome stuff is not even worth mentioning just put the new stuff in, but the lower ones were quite annoying since one nut was spinning free with the screw, had to get creative but managed to get that swapped out as well. Try to put a wrench on the nut and press against the screw movement to prevent it from breaking loose in the first place. That way its not a big hassle and you got that stuff completely fresh.
Thanks a lot for the tutorial, good shots, nice editing and you get a good idea of what to do before you get into it. Great and thanks a lot!

Depending on how the previous owner treated the car theres that metal dome thing that sits just before the top rubber and nut (the one accessed inside of the car), it can rust out and push through the rubber into the car. found out this happens on a dirt road, so guys if you hear a knocking (metal on metal sorta) sound dont get too spooked the shock might be good just need to replace that metal piece. or do what i did since i needed the car for christmas just take a solid piece of metal thats not thin or thick cut out a circle, drill a hole for the shock and depeding of how much good metal is there you just might get to fix it for free. (it should hold before the shock dies, but if needed this can be done as a quick fix.

Great video! Thanks for sharing and taking the time to make this video. Thinking of doing this job for my e91 318i. Quick question about the part number. If I'm not mistaken the Sachs 311 410 is for the sport suspension (M model) and 311 309 for the normal suspension. So I was wondering if you notice any differences between your old shocks and these sport suspension shocks.

why do you take out the upper plastic, it broke it all, you can just lift it a little to the left and take out the pkastic one from the side, then from below, just pull it and it will come out whole. that above does not need to be removed. your biggest mistake is that you didn't remove the second lower panel and everything goes from the bottom up, bolt by bolt, and the top part will stay, it doesn't need to be removed
