Back then my grandma did extra jobs to help out with bills. one of those jobs was doing laundry for Ed's shop. She would laugh about the stuff she found in the pockets. Saying her washer was high as a kite after that. Back then Barris and folks like Ed were Kings of cool as far as we were concerned. Ed use to sell T-shirts he air brushed for 10.00 bucks. Alot of money back then. Funny how all the cool cars did their best to get that Custom look back then. I was blown away when I pick up your post. What a find! I hope the new owners will enjoy their blast from the past. With a Gentle touch from Todays top customizer's Thanks, Chip, for keeping alive a COOL ride.
I really respect that you're restoring this car rather than restomodding or trying to redo the original finish. It's a nice bit of rodding history that's being preserved but made to drive again, a great thing, letting people see how it was when it was done back at that time, preserving not just the look but the sound.
My dad owned a full service gas station, I grew up there in the summers because my mom was the bookkeeper. I learned to pump gas when I was 6 or 7. My first job in the garage was washing the Whitewall tires.
It is so awesome you chose to preserve the patina and history of this work of art rather than blasting it apart and doing a full restoration. You are good man Chip.
I have saved some time and money using nail polish like this, I thought it was a sketchy idea until now, haha. A Touch up bottle is $15 and a Nail polish is $4. Car is looking stellar!
I use a round cross section ( not flat ) wooden toothpick to touch up those small chips. Just look real close at the chip and try to fill up the cratered hole plus a little more, so that it will shrink down to a near flat surface when it dries. You can even trim off some of tip to get the application just right.
I cannot tell you how much I have enjoyed these videos. I anxiously await the next one. Your attention to every detail and preservation of this Barris classic should deeply touch the soul of any car guy. Wonderful work Chip.

So many others would repower and up grade the suspension etc, so it`s nice to see it being kept as it was built..........Custom Cars started somewhere, and this is one of those......Nice work Chip.....!
The good thing is, if Chip Foose is involved, we're going to see some cool looking customs. I'm 82 years old and have owned 35 or 40 cars in my lifetime, and I still love looking at them and stirring up some old memory of a car I owned, or one a friend had owned. Keep it going Chip!

I'm doing up a 41 ford convertible which was a bit modified in the 50s with a 324 rocket with trip stroms and a little lowering. My Dad's old plate was a NJ AOD 44 . I'll have a couple made up. Gold engine bay…. The stylin rage of the day…couldn’t afford the paint, so the soapy Brillo pad on the brass radiator, ‘was close nuff’. The split manifold was like a dream come true. Annoyed the neighbors everyday. Well done Mr. Foose.

The original owners and builders had great pride in their machines and wouldn't want it left ratty just because it was found that way 60-70 yeats later. I am really enjoying this series. Thanks!
I am older than you Foose but that license number on the key chain was there for a purpose. If you lost your keys if someone finds it the person drops them in the mailbox and the post office would of had a way to get your address and mail it back to you.

Great job on preservation. You know for us old guys ,preservation is a more realistic project that we can finish in our lifetime , and drive around to enjoy before our kids take our keys away from us . Chip , I met you at the chattanooga motor car festival a couple years ago . We were eyeballing that Bill Mitchell grand prix !!! Anyway....are you going to go to chattanooga this October. I plan on talking to the organizers today to see if I can get a preferred spot at the show . I plan on driving my two 51 merc sleds 245 miles up from Alabama. One is a gene Winfield modern radical custom The other is a traditional radical custom built in the late 80's as a Barris tribute . Anyway .... I would love to see you again and for you to see my sleds !!! Hopefully corky has a place in his warehouse to stage one sled while I run back to Alabama to bring the other one . Washington required all registered cars to get the new Whit with Green lettering "WASH 63" plates in 1963. Dumb thing to have made people like the brothers who owned this car do. From a Washington state resident. I love what you are doing to this cool custom from the past.
I love that you are preserving as much of this car as you can. My father-in-law gave my wife his '61 Chevy K10 short bed and we restored it about a year and a half ago. My question is where did you get the license plate redone in Florida? I have our trucks original black and yellow set and they are on the truck but over the years they have faded and are a little dinged up. I would like to replace them with new to finish the truck. any help is greatly appreciated.

Still good to see the VOCs out of the paint cans, my brother used to paint cars with stuff like IMRON and now has permanent respiratory damage😢
I have a 67 cougar that was painted with IMRON in 1983 the paint is still super nice, sorry about your brother, my brother died from concrete dust
