5 Trader Workstation Desktop Layouts & Video Tutorial

- This video shows 5 useful layouts for the Trader Workstation desktop platform by Interactive Brokers. We gave an in depth guide for each layout and showed the settings that may apply. Users can download the .XML settings file to add these layouts to their system. Upon restoring a settings file, your previous settings will be overwritten so remember to save those if necessary. When restoring a settings file it will overwrite existing hotkeys, watchlists and any defaults that were configured. The provided settings file has a few configured keyboard shortcuts which are basic and provide a good starting point. These templates are meant to be a basis for new users to build on or get ideas.

If anyone experiences an error with loading in a settings file just reply to this pinned comment to inform us. IBKR might be making changes to the way settings files are saved in TWS.
yes the option chain is showing up as percentages and not as the actual bid/ask price
@@kellyspence3743 That is changed in the options chain settings. Uncheck the box for 'Display Option Prices in Implied Volatility'.

Hi Verillo, Thanks a lot for all that you are sharing. I have a question: Do you know how to trade and follow-up (charts, stops, etc) for Long/short combos in TWS? I have look at Basket Trading and at Synthetic stock but it is kind of complicated.
What kind of combos are you looking to trade? It is supported but the charting might be finicky at times. If you try to chart an option combo sometimes the data takes a few minutes to load which is annoying.
@VerilloTrading thank you for this and all your TWS videos. You're seriously so much more informative than IBKR's customer service! Is just getting a copy of the Event Calendar layout a possibility? And, if so, would it still override my existing hotkeys? Thanks again!
Thanks for the kind words. When you restore a settings file it will overwrite hotkeys. You can just add the event calendar as a new window in your TWS.

what kind of trading is it you do with TWS can you just trade stock like normal but its in real time
Hey Chris, I have a curious question about TWS. When I’m trying to trade SPX index, I noticed the last value is different on IBKR TW compared TradingView or TOS. Called technical support and they couldn’t figure it out. They said I had the market data to cover it but it’s still lagging. Just curious if you crosses any issues with that.
You would need to confirm you are receiving the official index data from both sources and then see which one is performing best. I have not encountered this issue because I do not subscribe to index data in TWS sorry.
Hi Chris, thanks for the video, you have a great catalogue of TWS setting videos, much appreciated. I have been trading options and investing in stocks with IBKR for several years now, but now looking at moving into trading micro/mini futures. I have spent some time now learning the practice, but am a little apprehensive on the setting up bracket orders specifically for futures, there are plenty of videos on how to set for stock, but nothing for futures, I know it may be similar, but with so many settings, I want to ensure I approach the setup correctly, would there be by chance a video on this topic forthcoming?
Thank you for the kind words. The process of using bracket orders for futures trading is not very different but there are some things to consider. The main thing is the minimum price increment for the particular futures contract. When configuring bracket orders in TWS the user has the option to select the offset in AMT (price amount), Percentage, or in Ticks. Ticks may be easier to work with for futures contracts but you can test them to determine which is best for you.
Would you be able to make a setup same as thinkorswim active trader ? also do u know if we can have 2 order entry panels in TWS, Thanks in advance
It may be possible but we have never used thinkorswim before. Yes you can have multiple order entry panels.
Hi ...how accurate do u feel the pivot points are ? Is there a particular one u find is better? I was using TOS before for charting and now it's not available
I do not know much about pivot points sorry. It would be best to research it in greater detail and testing before implementing into live trading.
Please Help..... A bit of the topic, my apology for that.... But as soon as I 'hot button trade' then my chart shrink flat on IBKR Pro.... how do I fix please ?
This is because 1. Your chart is set to display the orders on the chart. 2. Your orders are appearing far away from the prices on the chart which is causing the chart vertical scale to expand and make the chart look weird. You can fix this by removing live orders from displaying on the chart. That is done at the top of your chart, select Edit > Global Chart Configuration. Then scroll down and find 'Order Display'. You will need to uncheck the boxes for 'Show Live Orders'. The other way would be to configure your bracket orders to be closer to the prices being displayed on your chart.

Hello! It is possible to trade those products from their web app. You may not get the same experience or analytics that the desktop platform provides but if you just need order placement then yes.

Even if I try restore layout it fails... Terrible work..
